I worked for a few respected old car fabricators as a young man and they enjoyed all the questions I asked, you could see in their eyes how much they wanted to pass on the trade to a younger generation

I might like to pass along a lot of the things I have learned but I haven’t found much of anybody that wants to learn it. Even my own son, I find myself trying to teach him mechanical things over the phone.
@@michaelszczys8316 there is something missing from the new generation(s) mine included although I do love the "crafts". Alot of guys who have a general interest in these sort of things expect to train a year and then make the BIG BUCKS when they dont know shit. But you watch Jesse as he works. His tounge sticks out, he gets into a groove, he loves it. I bet if you walked through his shop while hes working, hand him a defected fender, tank, anything, he will be compelled to fix it. Its in his nature, almost an OCD. Kids now dont "love" the work, they only love the money they could make.
Im 25 and my dad started teaching me fresh out of 9th grade. My peers like technology and clean fingernails too much.

The human eye can detect millimeter variences on a human face thats out of symmetry. A fender doesnt stand a chance.
All I can say is that these young men are extremely lucky!

I never saw Jessie as a teacher. More of a boss than a teacher. The producers never show us "how it is". They show us what they want to form a narrative.
Its different with a guy that wants to learn. Cant teach an old dog new tricks. A lot of guys have a bit of ego/pride and wont like being corrected, even if theres obviously a better way.
Tv producers sometimes miss the mark of what the people watching want to see. They seem to think everything needs to be turned into a drama filled reality show with fast cuts and loud music. It's that kind of nonsense that drives people to TH-cam instead.
Ole Jesse learned from a lot of master's, and it shows in his teaching. He is really passing that on to his student. Mad respect for Jesse.
Someone who cheats on their wife deserves a lot of respect...

From Indian Larry , Johnny Chop & Arlen Im missing a bunch but you really showed us whats possible with metal heat and a hammer... I'm saving up for one of your 1911 masterpieces and one day I'll have one in my hands.

The way Jesse started this is interesting. I ALWAYS start with the stretch and Jesse starts with a shrink... but I don't allow myself to weld armour at the end.
We all have our own methods, nobody is right and nobody is wrong... Whatever shoe fits!

He's got a wealth of knowledge. Good to see he's an excellent teacher and not just a master motorcycle builder and fabricator .
JJ, I remember as a kid reading how the fellows would use an Engiish Wheels making aircraft skins and autobody panels in the early 60s and wondered where to find one. Then saw you on West Coast Chopper series and mastered the art working with it. Then it seamed that everyone had to have one and the price for them went out of this world. You are an inspiration to many, I'm glad to see you're mentoring the young. You are a true Craftsman, an Artist and a a Legend. Keep teaching because your molding people's lives forever. I'm 65 and you helped inspire me and I mentor young kids as well.

I think myself lucky. I'm a carpenter/joiner and served an apprenticeship and had older guys who would get me to do the crappy jobs but would also call me over and say right this is how you do this. Would teach me skills and techniques. And there is something about watching a craftsman pass on his experience and knowledge. Priceless.

How awesome. I've admired Jesse for many years. These guy's are extremely lucky to learn from this master.
I can watch this all day. No fast cuts, stupid music, made up deadlines or fake drama. Its wholesome to see skills getting passed down. When the current generation retires, so does there knowledge.
I remember hearing jj say he makes bikes from the ground up, and made fun of other fab shops like occ that buy everything off the shelf and bolt it together. Jesse and orange county choppers are worlds apart in terms of craftsmanship imo. Dont get me wrong, occ and others make nice looking stuff, they just don't have the unique hand made qualities to them as much.
What an amazing opportunity to learn from JJ. Great to see they are doing so well.

What I love about JJ's style is that he is raw and straight from the start. Just bare bones flat metal to the mind dabbing. You can tell he worked hard to develop his craft.

My father was a skilled trades Tinsmith and fabricator for 35 yrs. I got him to watch some of Jesse's chopper shows and videos..he really enjoyed all the craftsmanship, kinda like the stuff he used to do. All the tools he would use, all the old school hand work, definitely cool.
Awesome seeing him reaching back and pulling kids up. That is what life's all about. Kudos.

History in the making. Watching a legend teach the new generation
Jesse James made me realize I could do metal work. Watching him on that first discovery channel show almost 20 years ago, I learned so much from watching him build fenders and tanks. I feel like I owe him something. I hope I get a chance to thank him some day.

I been watching jesse james since i was a kid. These guys are so fkn lucky to be learning from him. To me that would be like winning the lottery. Jesse is a legend in my book.

To many trades are dying with out great mentors like him to pass along a passion and love for what our hands and minds are capable of. The copper bike with riots still was my favorite. Unbelievable, true craftsman, I'm a sheet metal worker 25yrs now, and that's some tricky shit not to fuck up.

This is how learning should be. Carefully shaping and explaining every step and why each step is important and what it will do and undu. When I was working through my aprinticeship one of the guys always came off with an answer that made me feel like I was asking a stupid question.. the next guy said never work with him because there are no such things as stupid questions only stupid answers. I've live by this and am retired now. I only wished I got to work with someone like jessi james.
My great grandfather was Daniel Boone the blacksmith who build a miniature train set around his house in Burnsville NC

A TRUE fabricator giving back to his profession that is slowly dying. Always amazed how JJ can take straight tube and flat sheets of metal to creat functioning art. Well done sir, well done!
