Taking my friend fishing - Can I put him on the fish? Spring on a Northern river.

My good mate Dave has been troubled by a a frozen shoulder and joint trouble for months, but now is on the mend, so I figured it was about time he started fishing again! but I wondered about how he'd cope casting a fly again.
Turns out I didn't need to worry, his fish catching muscles are in fine form!
Nymph, Dry fly and Streamers all had their turn as we entered the finest fly fishing month!
my tackle - 10ft 4# dry fly / nymph outfit with a DT floating line
- 9ft 6# streamer outfit with a intermediate FT line

Thanks mate, TBH I don't think they were feeding very selectively, the only emerger patterns I had were loop winged olives and they seemed to appreciate them! I've tied some since with a mottled pheasant tail wing to represent large brook duns and they worked yesterday on my local stream! GRHE nymph lightly weighted will pull them too, cast to a rise or searching 👍👍

Cheers Chris. They're good fish but don't fight as hard as the ones in my stream across the road, had a brilliant little dry fly session, every fish semmed like a good pounder, but 3 ounces when they show! 😂

hi Dave, what a good session you had and I have to say I wish my rivers were as good as yours, fished for 3hr today and only saw one rise which turned out to be a 4in brown so not really a big scrap lol.

Thanks! TBH it's not always as good as that, and we both struggled to get a touch for the 1st hour amd a half (miracles of editing??). But for free fishing you can't go wrong here!
The old South Wales urban rivers (Taff's, Ely, Rhymney, Tower etc) look pretty good from what I've seen on utube? 😊

Dornoch mate. Saltwater fly fishing, beach and some tidal river bits, sea trout, pollack, coalfish etc

No mate, large parts out of the towns are on private land, but the bits I fish are on public land, parks etc. Its strange that no fishing clubs have snapped up the rights! I wouldn't object to paying if I knew of any private ticket bits
