Yeah love this Rhys! Helping that young lad was awesome 🙌
Should be more fishermen like you Rhys, that was great to see
many thanks david
100% agree
What a gentleman Rhys. I am new to fly fishing and I just love your videos. It’s a predominantly male sport but this does not out me off. Every guy I have met is great. I have had tuition by Twinpeakes in Aberdeenshire and they are just like you, kind and informative.
Have been eagerly waiting for this video at my local water Rhys. Cracking venue albeit very hard fishing at times! You helping that young boy made my day! That’s what fishing is all about! 👌
couldn't agree more :)
Huge respect to you Rhys for helping that young boy catch his fish and release it back to the water , that memory will forever stay with him and his Dad ..
Let’s hope so 🙂
good to see you helping young ones catch, well done RHYS!
thank you azazel :)
Rhys you truly are a great person and fisherman 👍
Thank you
Rhys, you should be proud of yourself for helping the young boy out. You’ve got a new fan for life. Brilliant.
I have only just seen this, this is my local water. Full credit to you Rhys helping that young lad out and his father! My passion has always been shooting and gundogs, and I have always helped others with less knowledge and experience.
Loved the way you showed the wee guy how to fish, great stuff, love your videos and you always have amazing advice, thanks Colin 🏴
Well done Rhys, that youngster is your new fan and a potential flyfisherman in the making. Top job.
thank you :)
Excellent video and some great tips. Brilliant to see you take the young lad under your wing. Cheers 👍
Your on another level Rhys, that was fantastic to watch 👌🏽🏴🎣
Thanks for the kind feeeback
Another fantastic video looking forward to you filming more
Thank you
What a superb film once again Rhys…well done. My friend and I fished Ynys Y Fro last winter with no success and only saw two fish landed all day but you made it look easy. I’m also thinking of teaching my grandson to flyfish and that was a brilliant tutorial on how to explain what the fish will do once it’s hooked. Brilliant stuff as always!
Worth getting yourself back over there once the weather cools a little :)
Great video helping that young man will stay with him forever well done 👏 Great explanation of your set up flies etc Great!!!
thank you :)
Best fishing drama on TH-cam.....I had my heart in my mouth when young Dylan got a second take....you even added more suspense with the dramatic music....masterful! As ever, great tips from a great guy, well done Rhys! 👍
Great how you helped Dylan, have you considered doing a kids series, starting with a novice like Dylan and training them up?
its a good idea. However with a new baby arrived, my time is becoming more and more limited sadly.
@@RhysFishes That's fine, perhaps a future project. It was great news about your latest addition, congratulations to you and your partner, hopefully, the baby will be a FFB (Future Fishing Buddy)
@@johnowen4888 thanks john 🙂
Brilliant video Rhys... That young lad will always remember that experience.. Excellent tutelage 👏
cheers caithnessflyfisher :)
Superb Rhys. Well done for helping the young lad!
cheers James
Excellent video again Rhys, informative & great viewing but to give your time to the young lad & his father was the most rewarding. True fly fishing gentleman sir. Tight lines, Derick.
Thank you Derick
Many fish are lost through striking too soon-wait until the fish turns over and the line moves - I see it all the time with novices and even once a teacher showing kids how to fish. If the fish drops the fly, try a very slow retrieve. Some times they take viciously! So have some spare line. Do not be in a hurry to re-cast. I use 6ft of 12lb of floating leader (Used mostly for carp fishing) this gives a bit of stretch and does not sink in rough weather. For the tip, 6ft of 8lb fluro with a tucked blood knot to hook. (I use 13lb if fishing reserviors).
Awsome that’s what it’s all about👌
Cheers Stu
Cracking video Rhys. That young lad will probably be hooked for life thanks to you . Take a bow 👏👏
let's hope so. thanks hoff :)
That was brilliant.
That young man is top fan status now 😊 well done getting him completely hooked on the sport
hopefully see him on the bank again with a fish of his own :)
Thank you Rhys, good takeaways. Great to see you helping a youngster, nicely done
Thanks Peter
Great video - and a really nice touch of humanity at the end Rhys... That boy, Dylan, will always remember his day there... 😀
Thanks mark 🙂
Outstanding Rhys bet that little boy was buzzing for days after that. All the very best 👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴👍🏻🏴
thanks James
That was excellent Rhys, well done on coaching that young lad as well, fantastic 👏👏
Thanks 👍
Fantastic video, your knowledge is incredible, learned a lot from this ….Well done Dylan..
glad it proved to be helpful :)
Magnificent, loved to see you make that young lad’s day. He’ll be back.❤
Let’s hope so david 🤞
Helping that lad was fantastic to be a part of. So refreshing to see other help and tips given instead of secrecy and hoarding!
I'd be disappointed in any angler who did that.
@@davidhumphreys7035 I've been fly fishing for just over a year and the demographic locally is old men that don't like to share - "Why burn your own spots?". I was terribly disappointed when I realized this. Trying to do different when I can.
@DeeJamz I've never understood that attitude and am quite free with my advice, time and kit when required, i like to think as passing it on as I've had quite a bit of help in long past years from others.
Thanks Dee :)
Absolutely brilliant with that young lad.
I've had 2 fab days on drys with a foam bodied Hawthorn fly on a Welsh upland llyn in N Wales, 6 fish one day and 8 on the other.
good angling David!
I love how you coached that boy! So wonderful. :-)
Thank you Nicole 🙂
Some good tuition there Rhys. That said. Your videos are great to watch and very informative. Keep going. We want to see more tricks and methods in fly fishing…
Thanks Icemon :)
Always learn new things watching your videos like degreasing the leader regularly . Great to see you helping the young lad he will always remember that. Great video as always well done
Thanks Sean
Rhys, you are a legend. Great helping out the lad.
thank you :)
Top job mate 👍🏼
Thank you Pete
Well done Rhys for sharing your accumulated knowledge and experience with a keen young angler in such a practical / hands on way…now that you’ve helped Dylan by pointing him in the right direction and catching a good fish, my guess is he’ll want to learn more and hopefully become hooked for life and benefit from all the many things that fishing can offer him / young people …and those not so young too😅
Thank you tk 🙂
That's awesome mate. They two will remember that forever.
Thanks Barry
Another great video, buddy. Nice to see you fishing my local waters
Thanks Marc. Lovely little fishery. Will join next year
Well done Rhys mate teaching the younger one get him to enjoy and catch a fish or to
thanks Steve
Very wholesome end to a great video Rhys. Well done
Thank you Jordan
Our Sports future is in our youths hands and our older generation to teach them. Well done Rhys
Thank you
Great video, very helpful and nice to see you helping the boy😁. Question I have is, I have a stillmaniac 10’ 7wt and preferred it with an 8wt line. Did you find this also. And is it the same with the 6wt.
Brilliant Rhys mate 👏🏻
cheers Kevin
Well done Rhys quality video.
What agentleman that'll stay with Dylan forevermore
let's hope so barr :)
Hi Rhys, great video as always! Especially with helping the boy land one. Quick question on the leader for a single dry fly setup. How do you decide between using a tapered leader vs a taper by connecting different leader sizes? Also any tips on when to use co-poly vs fluoro?
You can use either. I didn't have a shop bought tapered leader to hand, so went down the route of making my own.
Co-poly is great at keeping the flies high but can cause issues when your trying to get the leader closest to the fly to sink, hence why I tend to just revert to fluoro. Less spools to carry around also.
@@RhysFishes thanks for explaining Rhys! That makes sense.
Brilliant mate 👏👏
Cheers Graeme
Good on yer Rhys- so important to get young people fishing and who better to coach him?!
we all try to do our part mate :)
Great video. Plenty of good tips. The small CDC was definitely the key on that day. Can you point us to a previous video explaining mucin a bit more? We understand it is a floatant in the context of fly lines, but can you explain more please?
Thanks Paul. You can find more info on it in this video: th-cam.com/video/rDDRSScVy-o/w-d-xo.html
Nice 1
thanks
Rhys that was fantastic ,the fish ,the information BUT BUT BUT the end ov the video with the young lad was class 👌 👏 loved it. Since you've helped him could you help this old codger haha😅 could you tell me what type of hook you tied the size 18 cdc on please. I've never tied that small. Thanks again Rhys....brilliant.
Hanak 230 BL :)
Magical stuff, we’ll done to the young man
excellent work by him!
Come back to YT Rhys! You could easily be one of the top fishing YT channels .. top tier content
👍👍
Hi Rhys, just wondering what floating line you use? You mentioned it but I can’t quite interpret the accent! Lol
10 out of 10 Rhys getting the young people involved that young man wont forget that fish
hopefully not Geoff!
Good day what agood turn you did for that young boy hopefully will give him encouragement to go fishing with his dad just like yourself
let's hope so :)
Rhys, what knot do you use to taper down your leader. THANKS.
3 turn water knot
Thanks for that.
I miss a lot of fish on dries due to my poor timing , what method do you use to get it right , my mate says he says to himself , I want a pint of Guinness before striking.
great and informative video. I did not realise you had to sink your leader when fishing dries but in hindsight it seems so obvious :O.
cheers
Glad it was helpful!
Very enjoyable
thank you
any advice on how to handle a 20 foot leader?
If your not used to casting leaders this long, start shorter. So if we were mirroring my tapered leader, just shorter each piece in half or by a third. Once your comfortable at that length after a while, then add an extra foot onto each leader section etc… until you reach the desired length
Many thanks for the advice@@RhysFishes
What flywheels do use please

Top bloke mate, that will set him up for life, and hopefully he does the same one day.👍
be nice to see him on the bank sometime playing his own fish on his own rod wouldn't it :)
