This channel is the expressive outlet for my twin passions! I fish a variety of locations using diverse methods, but wherever possible for wild rather than stocked fish! I make my own music for the videos too. Please enjoy! 😊
Autumn Grayling Fishing with a dry fly
A nice, settled, but cold spell in October gave me a nice opportunity to extend my dry fly season and try for those most contrary ladies of the stream!

Glorious end to trout season 24!
มุมมอง 471หลายเดือนก่อน
Just a chilled out session on my local stream, with no great expectations, simply making the most of the precious few hours! September is never quite as good as May or June here, especially without significant water. So any result is good! Nice to get a visit from my pal Dave too. Hope you enjoy this!

Finally got around to fishing here after years of failed promises! well worth the wait! I may be able to reveal the identity of the club at some point, watch the comments! until then, any enquiries on the comments section relating to the whereabouts...
spate river trout and sea trout fishing in wild northern waters
มุมมอง 507หลายเดือนก่อน
A few sessions chasing the elusive Sea trout in our lovely Northern rivers, in the 2nd part of August and the 1st part of September. Usually I'll have an hour or so with a dry fly for the browns too. So nice to be out on these dramatic water ways, surging with flood water one day and running low a few days later. Dry fly, wet fly and streamers used. Hope you enjoy this video👍

August is a hard month on my local river usually, but this little spot can produce some interesting sport if you're prepared to battle the jungle landscape to get to the best bits! Taking 1 small fly rod and a diverse selection of flies and lures is a super fun way to tackle this wee stream!

RSI in my casting hand, warm weather, and low river levels have kept my fly rods hung up in the garage lately, so I took the opportunity to have a relaxing session on my local park lake, in pursuit of Tench and Bream. Something I ought to do more of! this is a deadly simple method, very quick to set up and simple to execute! A great way to search for these great fighters in summer when location can be difficult. Also a very natural form of presentation for educated fish that have seen a thousand swim feeders!! Hope you enjoy!

After the inevitable tailing off of the mayfly season, I had a brief mission trying to track down a Bass on my local Lancashire coast, which has some interesting features suitable for fly fishing. Lots of flogging and no result, coupled with some RSI problems in my right wrist lead me to try something quite new! I bought a second hand whip at an angling club tackle fair recently, and decided to...

great tip mate, we used to make strings of herring jigs usin the insulating sleeve, its useful stuff 👍🎣
cheers! made a sighter for euro nymphing from same stuff, coated in fluorescent red paint 👍
Nice one mate
cheers! how's the Tees been?
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 not had much chance to get out unfortunately.. evidently it's fishing really well ..may try Tuesday if the rain gods behave.
Mid wales rivers have plenty of grayling but mostly small however a session on a new club water produced 6 grays and mostly around 1lb so looks like I will join next year, weather here is unpleasant though calm but grey down to the ground and cold for last 2 weeks, today is 8degC. Small dries for the ladies sizes 18-22 are best.
yes its a strange spell of weather! usually I welcome cloud cover for fishing but it would be good to see showers and sunshine now, even frost! tends to be smaller grayling on dries, apart from the big un I had in late September. I need to ties some tiny dries and spiders!
Nice session David. Was out with my brother-in-law only yesterday catching grayling on dries. This mild and settled weather has certainly extended dry fly action this year.
Definitely good conditions now, but I can't get down there! 😅
Nice to get some on the dry fly David👍 looks like a big open river, that's what I need!!
yes you're right Chris! it does seem like a big river when its flowing like that, but it can also seem a bit feeble in summer drought! some big trout and grayling in there too! but the big grayling tend to get caught on bait or heavy bugs rather than dry fly. I need to work on the dry fly approach, I think the flies I use for trout are generally too big for the ladies, and the little ones are harder to catch due to the sheer speed of the rise!
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 they do rise and eject the fly fast (not that I've caught that many on dries), I'm also told that the way they rise and the shape of the mouth makes them more difficult. Any excuses I've missed out 😅
What a difference a day makes! Nothing rising and a blank after 3 1/2 hours. Only managed to see one fish rise all morning. Perhaps I need to fish later in the day!
Afternoons are definitely better if you want a hatch at this time of the year. Morning ok in cooler weather if you're deep nymphing or trotting.
Need one tooo
I'm looking for one too.. Can you organize for me...?
I don't think there are many around anymore! check ebay?? haha- organ - ize 😂
Excellent Dave, not been active so just catching up on your videos now!! What’s your plans for the winter?
sorry Michael! late response! grayling, roach pike I suppose. Depending largely on weather really! 👍👍
So awsome! (Finally not a bass video)
I wish! tried to do a a bass on fly vid in the summer, but they didn't co-operate 🤣👍
Are you sure any colour will do? I feel like the wire casing needs to be red for this to work.
probably better in a dull colour ? I doubt it matters! 👍
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 don't worry I was just taking the piss 😁

Hello! Thank you very much for that fantastic review. I only have a question. Can I copy and paste a measure in the same track? Regards and see you.
Very sorry! I can't help you with this one! sounds beyond my skills ! 👍👍😂
No problem. Thank you. See you.
Lovely wild trout and some good ones too for that wee stream. Nice footage as always, I know the effort you go to to produce the variety in the videos mate, it’s much appreciated. Hope you get some decent weather for winter fishing tight lines 👍
Thanks, Matt! There's going to be a lot less of them from now on! I can't justify the time and effort that goes into it against a background of dwindling views, comments, etc, and a stagnant subscriber count. Maybe I should monetise to boost it but then I'll be back on the treadmill again😂 Quite enjoying just fishing and storing footage at the moment tbh👍
@ I’d totally get that, it’d be a real shame if you stopped completely so releasing a reduced number that suits you and your fishing better would still be cool. But yes, it can take a lot of time even with basic editing, so for yours with music and lots of different clips, i bet it takes a while. Glad you are enjoying just going fishing, in the end if it starts taking a lot away from that it’s probably time to stop. I’m going to have a quick go for rainbows hopefully on sunday, it’s almost like from July onward they vanished completely but they must be there somewhere! All the best Dave.
Cracking stuff Dave - and over in the Dark Side too ! You caught some belters there, thank you for taking us along. Oxbow Lakes - I was whisked back to 90s GCSE Geography😁 👍
Cheers Matt! Always like to keep it educational! It's believed that prior to the last ice age that the ribble at this point flowed out of a huge lake eastwards into what is now the Aire valley- which would account for the indigenous stock of grayling in the ribble. They are only found naturally in East flowing rivers (ie Yorkshire and Derbyshire dales) The Eden was illegally stocked in Victorian times. There's your natural history for today!!😂
Thank you sir 😆👍
Slowly getting the hang of my br 80 , nice tutorial video
Yes! you soon get into it! thanks for the comment👍
luv your philosophy 2 trout move on!!
Thanks for the comment 👍my local stream 10 years ago was a good mixed fishery, trout, chub, dace, roach and perch. Now the coarse fish have been largely ousted by trout! I only fish a couple of spots in winter now that still hold a shoal of dace and chub. tight lines 👍
Soul Brother..Sunday Morning relaxation time..Love catching up with your videos brother, The Grayling and Brownie were awesome Fish..I havn,t done much this year, Like I said somebody killed our local River Off, Hope Nature sorts it out for us..Great Video Brother as always..
Thanks, Gaz! Sad to hear about your local river. It seems the rural streams are even more at risk these days with dairy slurry from intensive farming, fly tipping of toxic waste into ditches, etc That stretch of the ribble comes off moorland a wee bit further up, so it's sheep farming and not so bad but further down there's slime and gunk on the rocks all year round - not sewage, but nitrates and dairy slurry from excessive use of fertiliser and intensive dairy farming. The chub and barbel are OK but not many trout and grayling downstream coz the water ain't pure enough. Yet anglers still buy dairy products after moaning about it! We use vegan milk, cheese and yoghurt - much better for you too!! 👍👍
Very nice fish. You did better than me when I was there last year. I'll have to try with maggot soon.
I remember your video! I think you had the worst of the weather, though! I hate trying new waters in mid winter, that's why I chose to visit here while the trout season was still on. You never know, it could be very dour on a different day. I've yet to crack the Aire though, very tough river!!👍
well a fittin way to bring the curtain down on the '24 trout season, nice 1 dave mate 👍🎣
And thank you sir! 👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25no probs mate, always a pleasure 👍
Great stuff
This beat is controlled by Bradford City Angling Association. Season ticket only 👍
Please review/fish the River Hodder in Slaidburn this winter for Grayling! It's a cheap as chips day ticket but prime water. Many 3lbrs taken every season!
I have fished quite a few times and so has a mate...I've personally seen more than 6 well over 2lb
I heard mixed reports, but well worth consideration! Is it upstream of the village?
Nice way to end the season fella
Some chunks in that wee stream Dave! Enjoyed your videos this season, thanks again! Roll on March!
It's not bad for free! Good average size year, but that will probably change. You doing a bit over autumn and winter?👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Local permit runs until 31st October for Sea Trout and Salmon, probably be out again, might pay a visit to the Lomond Hills fishery. You got plans Dave?
Some nice fish there, Dave, from such a little stream. What are you feeding them on? 😅
😂 I breed LDO,BWO and caddis in my shed! Good average size this year, as opposed to my utube stats! moved a huge one to the streamer last week too, but botched the recording with my arm across the lens when it chased! spot noted for next march.....best of luck Chris!👍👍
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 🤣🤣 can you send some BWO's this way, Dave? We seem to be a bit short🤣 I've given up worrying about the YT stuff, seems completely arbitrary to me. As long as a few people enjoy watching it, then that'll do for me👍
Definitely! I'm backing off now. Too much obsessive time going into it. I think utube is penalising me for not joining the partner programme, so I can make £9 a year 😂 Just going to do an odd one now. I had a belting roach session on the park lake last Sunday, nonstop for 3 hours. I'm just storing the footage as it's pointless, spending hours editing something that nobody wants to watch. Your stuff is going down much better than mine anyway! 👍👍
@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 it's very hit and miss, isn't it Dave, I did join the partner program because I thought that was the only way to remove the mid roll ads? Did I get that wrong? I don't think people have much of an attention span these days, about 30% of people watch less than 30 seconds and about 50% don't make it past a minute😄 but we do have a loyal group who watch it all and for them I think it's worth the effort. I'd like to see the roach footage if you ever find the time👍
Wonderful video - a sad time in the fishing year with the close of river trout but a wonderful session to finish on.
Thanks ! Time to do something different now! Roach, Dace, pike, grayling? It's all out there 😊 👍👍👍
How do you do it?
It called fishing 😳 When you have fished for decades, you're more surprised to not catch anything!
Great video, I was there a couple of days ago and got nothing but a few trees, Not happy. But you teach me to be patience which is not my forte. Always enjoy your videos David.
Ha ha! Thanks! But you don't see the bad tempered stuff! This river always takes a payment, usually 2 o3 flies per session!! Not difficult to tempt these trout if you don't spook them! Knowing the river is a large part of it, there's good looking spots that just never produce. Over the years, you learn which bits to walk past! 😂👍👍
Well done Dave and thankfully you had another set of keys! One of those rods the one you fixed up a few episodes back?
Cheers Davie, yes, the switch conversion. Hard work fishing upstream with it, I'll look for a shorter 6wt next year for streamers. Had spare keys but I'm trying to blank out the memory of the 100 mile round trip by taxi😢😢 Your season done now?
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 Last day today Dave, allowed Sunday fishing on the Leven, I'll be heading out for a few hours late afternoon to the area where I got my biggest broonie this season 🤞🎣
Good luck 👍
Great session 👏 the brown was a stunning dark fish Congrats on the PB grayling 🎉
Cheers Colin! Much appreciated 👍👍
They were great fish, super stuff, Lovely video! Must have been awful to have that problem at the end of the day. I am always exhausted after a day's fishing and very glad to have a car to take me home. Can't imagine what it must have been like to trek home and back again like that. As you said, the less said the better, but I feel for you.
Yes, expensive taxi tide home for my keys😢 thanks for the comment!
Nice to see a different side to that river. The both the Grayling and Brown Trout were quality fish. Well done.
Ha! Thanks! Yes, not how most think of the Ribble. 👍👍
Very nice Dave well done, holding on to the bar of soap, Grayling 😅 another season gone☹️☹️ but a cracking brownie to finish with, the streamer strikes again👍 And what a Grayling, I bet you'll be back to that beat next season!
Hopefully, I will be back in a couple of weeks,Chris, for more grayling ! Having a break from fly fishing ATM to allow my elbow and wrist to recover, watching a float. The actual final session under edit now on the local, again dry fly, nymph and streamer!
Wow absolutely stunning!!
Thanks, fella! Great battle from the big grayling on light tackle - not quite west coast sea trout but nice nonetheless! 😊
well done two nice fish for seasons end
Cheers my friend! 😊
Loved for video Dave, always look forward to them.
Thanks, man! One day, the Bolton streams!!😂
Some crackers there fella, that grayling was a proper old warrior.
Cheers Paul, don't think I can recall one that fought like that! 👍 😊
Great day out for the end of the trout season. (Apart from keys)
You have tickets for this water, Keith. Interesting bit of river.👍
Thanks for putting in the effort in posting this and the other tutorials. Very well explained and helpful🙂
Glad it was helpful! thanks VERY much for the comment 👍👍👍
@soultrader Off topic: I'm currently looking at Hardy online and plan to invest in my first piece of kit in 40 years +.. would you advise mid-range line weight, length, before going more specialist at the lighter/longer end of the scale? Hardy entry level is about £400. It's quite nice eyeing-up the advances in technology and design on their website. I'm not at the reel stage. Any suggestions would be gratefully received. I would want the flexibility for sea trout (poss saltwater) and small to medium rivers incl smaller tarns or reservoirs. BTW I would love to recommend some places on the NW coast. Let me know how if that is poss off the comments section here. Cheers! Enjoyed your recent one with the comments turned off 👍
Good luck mate! I've never shelled out on expensive tackle TBH so I know nothing about Hardys stuff, apart from using their fly-lines for a time with cheaper rods and reels! 6 to 7 weight 10ft long with a softish action for sea trout, could be used for loch brownies but might take away the thrill of the fight from a small brown to some extent! If you wish to chat further, I'm on face-book as soul trader 57. thanks😊👍
Pronounced Amond. No L .
Ok fella I stand corrected !
Enjoyed watching this as I regularly fish the River Almond during the Spring and Summer time months on both the Cramond Angling Club and West Lothian Angling Association permits.
Glad you enjoyed it! I'd love to get up there again! hopefully next year...👍👍
@@soultrader57fishingandmusi25 permits are available thesedays from Fishing Around the Forth website for the Almond and other rivers in the Forth Catchment , both season and day . The River Esk in East Lothian has grayling also .
fair play mate those low conditions have the fish constantly on each so landin them is def on the tricky end of things, tight work as always dave 👍🎣

Nice bit of Sedge fluttering to get the take there Dave 👍 Something about finding those little spots on small streams where its just you amongst nature, I was out on a woodland burn over the weekend, little buggers were too quick for me though, very challenging but good for the soul
Absolutely! Thanks Davie. Weird, but those trout in the headwaters seem fewer but larger than where I normally fish a bit lower down 🤔👍👍👍
Beautiful vid , keep the fly fishing ones coming i love them , all the best ,David.
Thanks, will do !👍latest is another small stream session too!
hi Dave I'm enjoying your videos, keep them coming. can you tell me are these club waters or are they free to fish? Hoping to get out on my local river next week although casting could be a bit of a problem with all the trees, so lots of roll casting needed. thanks again.
Thankyou Michael. this particular one is free, on public land, I fish a spread of club and public waters, but hardly ever commercial rainbow trout stillwaters and never coarse commercials! I like the challenge of wild fish rather than stocked. Good luck 👍👍
