Fishing for Brown Trout on Scotland's most famous salmon river! a day on the Spey...
มุมมอง 633วันที่ผ่านมา
We stayed overnight in the charming village of Kingussie, en-route North to Sutherland. I couldn't resist the opportunity to cast a fly across the hallowed River Spey! Thankfully the bank -busting floods after prolonged torrential rain in England didn't really make the same impact up here, with a nice level holding on the Northern Scottish rivers. Thanks for watching, next time, Sutherland!
Superb small stream dry - fly sport, with an 80 minute time limit! cream of the trout season!

Just a competition against myself to see how many trout (of any size) I can catch and release from my local stream. Although its a mere 5 minute walk from my front door, its one of my favourite places to fish, anywhere! enjoy!
Smaller river = Larger trout! stalking a good brown trout on a quiet evening. Magical!

A challenging but promising stretch of river not too far from home! A public space, but very quiet this evening, thanks to intermittent drizzle and wet undergrowth keeping the dogs and owners at bay! Not that I have a problem with the general public enjoying a public river, but I look forward to damp evenings 🤣 Hoped to use a dry fly but the only fish I could find rising were unresponsive, so a...

My good mate Dave has been troubled by a a frozen shoulder and joint trouble for months, but now is on the mend, so I figured it was about time he started fishing again! but I wondered about how he'd cope casting a fly again. Turns out I didn't need to worry, his fish catching muscles are in fine form! Nymph, Dry fly and Streamers all had their turn as we entered the finest fly fishing month! m...

Exploring the River Irwell - early spring search for wild brown Trout!
มุมมอง 7982 หลายเดือนก่อน
Early weeks of the season, cold, high water and a cool, showery day, so there's my excuses! peak season still some way off but I liked the idea of a session on a bigger river for a change, and the prospect of some dry fly or spider fishing in "top water". Too early?? enjoy!
Early spring - wild trout delight! My stream in the woods awakens!
มุมมอง 7142 หลายเดือนก่อน
Since my last sessions here, this little river is now starting to show its true potential! It will surely provide much better fly fishing in another few weeks, but its a delightful place to be at the moment. 3 different methods come into play to deal with rapidly changing conditions as the stream drops and clears after overnight rain. thanks for watching.

Cold winds and water, freezing showers, and water discolouration! On my treasured little local river, these things all conspire to make my 1st efforts at fly fishing for crafty little brown trout difficult! But I wouldn't miss it for the world, and in the end, some fun was there to be had!

    Very enjoyable - fishing & sight seeing bits equally! Glad you got amongst the fish on the Loch Buidhe & hope you had a nice trip. We’ve not been up to Scourie/Durness for a while now but I recall as a kid watching salmon leaping in the River Laxford. The whole area is a fishers dream some amazing beaches too. I did my dissertation at uni yrs ago scrambling round on the scree slopes of Foinavon and Arkle, if you ever get chance the walk up Strath Dionard is amazing, what a river that looks as well as the famous Loch Dionard at the top. All the best 👍

      Toby was just piling up weed behind me! I prefer estuaries because you've a current to pull against and make the lure or fly work nicely, and without that swell trying to knock you over! Hopefully, Isle of skye next June and possibly west Scotland sea lochs late Sept this year. How's it going over the water?

    Another great video David. The river that comes out of that loch has a run of salmon from loch Fleet. It has the oldest fish ladder in Scotland so I was told. Thanks for uploading, it brought back some nice memories.

      Thanks ever so, Mike! I had to stop to look at that river (can't remember the name of it!) Such a jaw droppingly beautiful drive up the single track road up to the loch as you leave the main coast road! Apparently, you can get day rods on both the fleet rivers from Dornoch Angling Club, who act as ag3nta for the owners. Would be very interesting later in the season. Are you the same Mike who posted some flies across to Matt from Highland fishing diary? If so, nice gesture! 😊

      @soultrader57fishingandmusi25 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Chris, it didn't seem too bad on the go pro, more the phone! Not that often it's a problem in the places I normally fish. But advice taken! I'm down in Cornwall for a few days with my daughter and grandkids at the end of July so I'm determined to sneak out for a bass thrash one early morning, I'll have to consult face book for some possible spots! Preferably estuaries with easy wading rather than clambering over rocks😂 Interesting to see how you go on in Devon! Always thought the Taw estuary looks good

    • @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724
      @chrismatthewsflyfishing7724 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I will have to make some enquiries and see where people fish. I know people like Henry Gilby and Chris Ogbourne catch plenty in Devon and Cornwall. As with all fishing location is everything but probably even more so in the sea. My Dad fished for them years ago with peeler crab and would talk about the 3rd breaker being the hot spot. It would be a bit special to be wading in the surf with a nice bass attached to a 10 foot 6 weight👍

      Hi Kev, TBH I haven't fished the trout loch much, and a long time ago. Frisa is probably the best, and the Mishnish Lochs. I'm told traditional patterns like Kate Mc Claren, Blue zulu, mallard and claret etc on a floating line with a decent wave, trying different speeds of retrieve. There are brown trout in most rivers and streams but they are small and you'd have to pay for salmon or sea trout permits to fish for them, and most of the slamon/sea trout rivers are private. For the sea and estuaries, flies for sea trout such as teal blue and silver, blue zulu again, and light coloured streamers like minkies. Id ask the owners of "White house of Aros" if you can fish the Aros estuary. Great fun on an incoming tide as you see the fish move in with the rising water, cast your flies along the edge of the kelp, but most plucks and pulls will be missed! good luck.

      Thanks Paul, it certainly is! yet also very urban! I'm currently in Sutherland, and it's hard to find a local hill loch that hasn't been stocked, some of them even with rainbows and blue trout!

    Super haul Dave! Watching this as I prepare for a trip to the river tomorrow/today. Hoping the rain we’ve had hasn’t brought the water up too high. 🤞

    Casting at those risers at 12/13mins at the 'big rock swim' utterly tantalising! Had a real soft spot for this river since you kindly showed me the ropes down there. Lovely dry fly installment as always Dave 😀

    Nice one, Dave. im really hoping to get some better fishing this week, with the trout as responsive as this. Audio seems improved. Is this a new setup? Re fishing in public places it is amazing how often you get asked "are there fish in here then?". Never quite sure how to respond?

      Thanks Chris! Yes, finally spent some hard cash on a go pro against my tight fisted nature! Benefits of working and drawing a pension at the same time 😂 Don't know how the hell I got to 1k subs with that Chinese camera! It's a brilliant little stream, the reason I moved house to that spot 10 years ago! If I go late afternoon or early evening mid week its pretty quiet. No permit , just EA licence required. Saltwater sea trout are proving much more elusive.....

      I bet you'll find the gopro easier, not so much voice-over required. Be ready for the dreaded freeze and having to take the battery out🤔 You wonder how many miles of trout streams there must all over the UK that never see an angler ?

      Yes! No mic, and the hindsight feature is superb. We're pretty blessed in lancs nowadays. Since the 80s cleaner rivers and progress in sewage treatment has worked wonders. There was no River fishing south of the ribble and north of the Welsh dee when I was a kid. There's a handful of "dirty" rivers now within 20 mins drive from me which produce specimen brownies, that seem to dominate chub, dace and even pike.

      Hindsight feature? Which gopro do you have?

      The 11. It records a continuous loop on hindsight, 30 seconds at a time which it deletes as you go. Hook a fish or similar memorable moment, and you press the start, and it keeps the previous 30 seconds from before you started your recording! In principle, you dont miss the take!

    Great to see. I remember the days (not that long ago) when the Water of Leith was full of polution from a paper mill and the only life was rats. I also remember being taken to the River Almond on Sunday evenings to watch salmon jumping! Thanks for bringing back happy memories.

      Tbh I thought it was twice that size the way it shot upstream at 1st. Beautiful markings though. Despite all the years, I can still remember each individual wildie of that stamp! Rainbows of 2 or 3 lb, more difficult to recall 😂
