TRANSIT WALK AT FRANKFURT Airport, FRA Terminal 1 - Connection Flight Transfer, Arriving & Departing

- This is an airport / tour review of the inside and outside of Frankfurt Airport (FRA), located in Germany. This airport footage is of a transfer flight and should give the viewer an idea of what it is like to arrive at Frankfurt Airport on a European flight, and give the viewer an idea of how it is to transfer at Frankfurt area (arrive on one flight and then how to find and get to a connection flight). This airport tour begins with our disembarkation onto the tarmac at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). We have just arrived on a flight from an EU country and will be going to another gate in Frankfurt Airport´s Terminal 1 building to board our next flight to another EU country.
From the aircraft we board a bus which takes us on a long ride through the Airport to our Terminal Building (Terminal 1), The drive through the airport gives you, the viewer, an idea of just how large this German Airport (Lufthansa Hub) actually is. Once we arrive at the terminal building, we quickly make our way to the gate information screen to see from which gate we will be boarding our flight (which in our case is to Copenhagen Airport). Our gate is A7, so we then follow our on foot walk through the beautiful Terminal 1 building, following the signs all the way in the direction of our Gate. Our flight is due to begin boarding soon, hence we do not have much time to stop and make use of the nice looking coffee shops or to do some Duty Free Shopping at the multiple brand names stores located in this Terminal. We easily follow the signs to our gate. Information is very effective at Frankfurt Airport, and we found it to be a very easy airport to do a flight transfer (transit / connection flight). Once we find our departure gate we again have to go downstairs into the "cellar" as our flight will once again be a tarmac boarding, which means we will once again be driven from the gate to the aircraft by bus. We call the gate area for our flight "the cellar" as this area almost id´s a cellar with no natural light located under the Terminal 1 building. The area is dull and gloomy and Frankfurt Airport should do something to make the interior of this departure area more inviting to passengers... Once our flight begins boarding the viewer is again taken on a bus drive through Frankfurt Airport to our waiting aircraft...

It is operated by Fraport and serves as the main hub for Lufthansa including Lufthansa CityLine and Lufthansa Cargo as well as Condor and AeroLogic. The airport covers an area of 4,942 acres (7.722 sq mi) of land and features two passenger terminals with a capacity of approximately 65 million passengers per year, four runways and extensive logistics and maintenance facilities...."

It operates services to 18 domestic destinations and 197 international destinations in 78 countries across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, using a fleet of more than 280 aircraft.
This airport tour / review is filmed at Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and includes footage from our Lufthansa Arrival, the transit bus that transferred us to the Airports terminal, a walk through the Terminal 1 building, a bus ride to our connection SAS flight.

Thank you for another fantastic video and insight into the Frankfurt airport transfer situation. It looks like a very efficient operation moving many passengers in many different directions. I now feel like I have enough knowledge to negotiate a transfer myself! I am planning a trip from Australia to Berlin and the choice of transfer airports is now between Frankfurt and Helsinki. What would be your recommendation?
Hi there Martin, pleased to hear that you enjoyed this video and that it gave you some insight into the workings of this huge airport. The two choices for transfer airports => This depends what your personal needs are and how much time there is between your connection flight. Helsinki is a small and rather easy airport to make a transfer from, the terminal is one big building so you do not have to catch a bus or train to another building for your flight (here is a video we made of Helsinki Airport th-cam.com/video/ZnsT4JRVTHk/w-d-xo.html ). Frankfurt is in theory closer to Berlin than Helsinki, so if your connection flight waiting time is short, you would get to Berlin quicker! It all depends on your flight times from Australia. At both airports you will have to pass through security and passport control before you can make your way to your connection flight! Landing at Helsinki has the bonus of being able to say you have come from the bottom of the Earth to almost the top, a nice thing to say one has done ;-D Have a good weekend!

Nice overview of the airport experience and a bit of spotting there at the end. Love the BMW i8 as well, definitely one of my top choices if I ever come upon some $$$ :-D
It´s a nice airport to walk around in and the fact that you get to drive so close to the aircraft around the terminals is fantastic! We agree, the BMW would be a nice choice if one had the money ;-D
I was recently making connection flight Frankfurt Airport, but I missed my connection flight due to the bad design of the airport, having to get bus once off plane, and get on little trolly train and then faced with almost 1 hour queue to be processed by security, but from landing at Frankfurt airport to make connection flight, took almost 2 hours to reach my gate, resulting missing connection flight, and then go to transfer desk and 1 hour queue to rebooked on another flight, half hour queue at security processing again and 11 hour wait for next flight, I only can describe my experience at Frankfurt as a bad design, passenger making connection flight is in transit, so technically not in the country, and as passenger as already passed airport security processing at origin airport, I’ll always question Frankfurt security processing for transit passengers, because after all, didn’t go through passport control at Frankfurt airport, but I last used Frankfurt airport in transit 3 years ago, and almost missed my connection flight, and on recent connection flight, I missed the flight, so there is a high rate of passengers missing their flight through no direct fault of the passengers, either delayed by security, airport gate to far apart, and aircraft passenger arrived on arrived late, on my flight, my flight was 10 minutes late, but I surfaced at my connection gate 45 minutes after my connection flight departed, so the design and distance of connection flight and security causes passengers to miss flight, I’m not surprised you didn’t have time to stop to have bite to eat, I would class your experience as lucky, since you didn’t have to be processed though security, but even your connection flight was long and far., but I for one will never travel through Frankfurt airport again.

Dude I can't imagine how I feel it'll be my first time and I'm confused
Thanks, great video. It's easy when you arrive/depart from the A-Gates but when you have to use the tunnel to the B Schengen Gates, it's a bit stressful and long ^^. Last time, got from the Senator Lounge A52 to Gate B05 in 7 minutes, and I walked fast ! FRA is my favorite airport in Europe !

We have a 1:45hr connection time with Lufthansa from Newark Airport to another Lufthansa bound for Lisbon, is that enough time with the bus rides and possible security & immigration checks, we certainly hope so. Last minute change caused by Air Canada announcement of likely shutdown because of labor issues.

I like this terminal, there is no problem with understanding of signs, you can get easly where you want.

Your video is nice. Frankly speaking, this airport in Frankfurt is quite confusing especially for people who are first timer to Germany; I like the airport in Paris because it is well organized.

The plane you asked for is Asiana. I think it is normal to go by bus for a so short flight. The airlines don't like to pay for a service to the airport for a small flight. So you have a busgate ;o)

I have a flight from Heathrow to Frankfurt with Lufthansa and then from Frankfurt to Haneda with ANA. I was just wondering about baggage claims. Would I have to pick up my baggage at Frankfurt or just carry on to my next flight? thank you for the really helpful video! :)
Hi there VLA, welcome to our channel as a new subscriber :-D Regarding your baggage, we would imagine that it would be able to be checked through all the way to your final destination from Heathrow Airport. When you check in at Heathrow ask them if they can check your luggage through to Haneda. If they can do this ask them whether you have to pick it up in Frankfurt or whether it will be taken care of automatically. Normally when we make long haul flights with connections (or many connections) our luggage only has to be fetched at our final destination. Always ask the Check-In personal for the correct answer, just to be on the safe side :-D

Incredibly good video, thx. Guys for us Canada especially East coast, if you fly to any internal EU country be advised sometime Lufthansa is placing their arrivals too close to departure of the connection and the transfers are often long to be done, so time is very tide if not exceptionally tide.

Our trip April-May 2020 to Veneto, Austria, Budapest, Bratislava and Prague with AA and BA was cancelled. Since our airline tickets were refunded after a difficult dispute claim, now I'm looking for other possibilities. Condor and Lufthansa is one. There is a 1hr 40min and a 5 hour layover. Looking at your video, I think 1hr 40 mins is not enough but will arrive in Budapest at 1pm. Longer layover arrival will be almost 6pm. Maybe take a risk to arrive early at destination. That transfer looks exhausting. I thought Gate A was the end. You took a bus like you're transferring from Gatwick to LHR. That is good if you are only doing aircraft tour. But you and Maru always look relax during transfers even after a very long flight. I admire you guys. That was an Asiana plane. I took their new A350 last September 2019. I didn't like it. It shakes so much even with slight turbulences. We will go again next year if it's safe. No more travel for 2020. I checked your transfer in Istanbul few weeks ago. Turkey and Greece might be also good for 2021 instead of Europe. Happy travels. Stay safe and healthy.Tony

Glad you enjoyed it! It is a while since we filmed this video and we never film security as that is not allowed. This flight was within the EU so we may not have had to pass through security as we had done so at our origin (another EU country). Have a good flight.

I arrived from Paris-CDG to take my plane to Oackland, and, in comparison :
•Paris-CDG (not Orly) is bigger than francfort airport ;
•The design (architecture and decoration) are beautiful in these two airport (CDG terminal 2F / FRA terminal 2) ;
•indications are more simple at Francfort (it's not bad at CDG, but his tall can be a disadvantage) ;
•These two airports are impressive, modern and... GIGANTIC!!

Frankfurt Airport is very big. So it's normal to have long ways and small gates for short flights. I like this airport!

Hey I'm going on my first long haul flight from VIE-FRA-SFO and I'm quite nervous about the transfer, as I'm flying on my own too. I have a 2 hour transit but it should be enough time. Wonderful video and very useful to know what I might have to do upon arriving. Going to Reykjavik. But I'm shocked that they don't have enough gates to handle the air traffic. I do have trouble standing more than a few minutes, health issues.
