One IMPORTANT thing to mention about Luchika and followers carting general. If you go and help them back up, they WILL give you items and even Rampage (elemental Bombs and such). There is no cap to this, so EVERY time Luchika goes down, help her up for some free bombs. Fiorayne was giving me Lifepowder+ & Healing items if I revived her. So it may be different for each follower.
Also consider followers each use specific endemic lives. For example: uses Minoto stinkmink, which makes her more likely to get agro, Hinoa uses escuregot, Fiorayne (or was it Rondine, I use the 2 together alot) uses antidobra, Jaye uses wailnard which is really annoying if it attracts a monster that's on a mounted cooldown. Another thing to note, they each use unique items, assuming they do use items. Chadmiral, for example uses demon powder, Hinoa and Fiorayne use lifepowder (or dust of life, can't really tell) and so on.
Utsushi tends to use every type of elemental beetle, along with maybe occasionally locking the monster in place? (Like what happens after mounting a monster) Fugen tends to use the status toads a lot (thankfully they don't hit you anymore)
One thing is certain, they have insane skill one could dream off, have ridiculous amount of health and cannot cart. Plus they talk, I know people find conversation annoying but that's how games can be a little more lively. I usually bring Galleus and Fugen along.

I know that having hinoa and minoto hunting horns is probably not the best combination but when im fighting the monster and I take glance at my health and I see 15 different icons that I did not put up there, I can't unsee that
Followers do almost no damage when compared to the actual hunter so hinoa and minoto both using HHs is one of the best setups for any raw focused build or bow user. If you're using something more element focused like dual blades swap Minoto out for Utushi's HH as it gives element attack up.
The reason a lot of Utushi's swap skills are the same across both scrolls is because he uses the Redirection skill. Just thought I might let you know, because that does make a big difference! Also, his Dual Blades scrolls are very different from each other.
My favorite setups depending on what I need: - Fast hunt = Hinoa (HH) and Utsushi(HH), gives maximum attack boost all around - Sustain for those 1 cart Anomaly Quests = Hinoa (HH) + Minoto (Lance or HH). Gives maximum defense as well as decent attack buff. Lance Minoto may be better for Gunners, but her using HH can also help you stun monsters from my experience Other good picks are Rondine for traps and paralysis CC, Fiorayne with SnS focusing on healing Fugen's toads may sound nice, but if you're not careful you can get caught up in his toads gas as well, which will be annoying for Blademasters The others are kinda niche or not as effective, especially if you want to farm
didn't they add a patch where his toads won't hit you? edit In the version 12.0.0 patch notes Fugen's endemic life traps will no longer hit the player.
Followers also deal less HP damage but deal a TON of part damage. They also can't kill a monster, so if you're needing the extra part breaks, just let them wail on a monster while it holds on at 1 HP.
If you're hunting effectively, the followers end up doing around 5% of the monster's health combined. So it's much more worth it to use followers for healing/buffs(HH)/support.
Followers make the grind to 200 more of a fun play thruogh. Bringing a new variable to this slow progression just hit 140 and I'm glad they added followers because it was getting a little boring at 120.
Utsushi at the very least gives elemental buffs when using the Hunting Horn, which is definitely useful for Dual Blades users (and on the topic of duals blades, his main weapon, he has more switch skills when he swaps over to them at least lol #BuffUtsushi)
Another thing people might not know or consider is Rondine uses a Blast/Heal Powder Kinsect when she's on Insect Glaive. I find her powder generation and even powder explosions to be quite frequent. A semi-hidden touch that gives her an edge.
As a HH main I love having ranged followers when my friends can't be online. It's rare I see ranged players when random hunting so having them is a nice change for me.
You can't bring them in story quests, first time you do gaismagorm or the first time you fight the anomaly lunagaron for example, those quest don't remain later so you can't notice if you already did them
I never knew about the small details of the followers, i just started taking luchika(she's really good at popping the red zones of anomaly monsters with LBG) and hinoa because i noticed my hunting times going down by like 2 minutes with them.
I just discovered a monster combo, Hinoa + Fugen... Fugen is an offensive type and Hinoa the support, I can hunt an afflicted Diablos under 8 mins because of these 2
Hinoa will often use Stinkminks as a “Hunting Helper”. Which if you have her set on Lance means she’ll keep the monsters attention for as long as the mink buff lasts.
I usually roll Utsushi (DB or HH) and Hinoa (Bow) myself. As a Lance main, I don't need the healing other than Hinoa's Lifepowder, and Utsushi just brings on the pain with his barrage of elemental beetles (usually fire) and constantly placing pitfall/shock traps. Also Utsushi's enthusiasm is just the best so I can't *not* being him on hunts. (Also with HH, he gets Attack Up L!)
I actually love bringing Arlow. He may seem like he doesn't do much initially, but after using him a few times, he does a great deal of crowd control with the hammer and trap bugs he's constantly dropping. As a bow main, the longer the monster sits still, the more damage I can put out. Also, Luchika has the fortify skill, so she just gets stronger after the 1st and 2nd knockdowns, lol
For counter oriented players, would running diversion (or whatever the aggro skill is called for multiplayer) work to keep monster attention on the player? I don't really use counter skills, so I won't be building this to test. Personally Minoto with the HH has been an MVP. Her songs are super helpful and I feel like she seems to get a decent amount of stuns because she tends to attack monsters head on (probably because of tanky lance AI). Other than Minoto, I just rotate in others to change things up, but Fio, Hinoa, and Fugen are my typical choices. I had no idea about Utsushi though. Maybe I'll bring him next time just to see what he can do with my weapon of choice.
I always bring Hinoa because she reacts to my emotes unlike her sister. If I can't get my followers to go "nya nya" with me they don't deserve to fight with me
Some uncommon follower combos are great too. Luchika with Bow and Jae with CB seem to do by far the most damage any follower pair can do, they cut hunting times by circa 18% compared to other pairs' 2-10%. Fugen with Hammer and Rondine with IG are great too but at keeping the monster locked between ko's, traps, toads, powder explosions, flash/sonic bombs. Add a para dog, a gather cat and the stumbles from popping qurio bubbles and the monster won't be doing much. Galleus with SA and Arlow with Hammer aren't as good support as Hinoa and Utsushi but unlike the HH users they actually deal damage and their Life/Amor/Demon Powder upkeep is good. Giving Arlow the hammer also stops him from just standing around like he does with GL.
I have been running Luchika and Hinoa since I got all the followers unlocked. I brought Luchika for the Sticky Cheese and stuns and Hinoa for a Healer. This combo works great for me. I have always wondered what the differences were between the followers. Cotton over at RageGaming took 2 DPS followers and got them to do damage all fight and did nothing himself and the 2 timed out the quest so I don't think any kind of Damage is that great for any of them. Edit I just took the MH Follower Quiz and Got Luchika, get into the fight and cart, sounds like me.
Nice! Now maybe Ruri will take the advice with Hinoa being a healer and with that can get rid of the healing cat for a gathering cat for extra materials 😃 Hinoa alone should be more than enough to help keep the party alive :)
I know what utsushi dose! He faints in awkward places that put you in serious risk trying to get him up. This has happened almost every hunt I have had with him and is usually my first cart. At least I no longer have to worry about Friendly Fire Fugen although I still have PTSD when he says "go get him little buddy" followed by me and the other follower convulsing on the ground.
it's funny how Fiorayne has some of the lowest health but she almost never enter recovery state because of how well she blocks and heals. Luchika, meanwhile, gets downed way too frequently which is fine because she gives you bombs when you help her.
me and utsushi think alike, i dont have time to memerize two gunlance play styles when having 1 fun one works just fine, it also lets me spam the swap for redirection and quick breath so i can do all my counter attacks after dodging bc my bugs cool down faster
I use to take 2 palicos one healer one assist, for heals and stuff like endemic life barage. But with Fugen as a follower I can ditch my assist palico and take a palamute and fugens toads feel like they happen way more often, without this video I never would have known about fugens toads either. Love it.
I actually play with Fugen a lot and like him. This makes me want to try playing with their skills/weapon combos even more! I like that Fugen joins in at sleep bombing whenever you do it. There are other followers I've played with that don't care and just wait for you to wake the monster up yourself. I like bringing Hinoa for HH and sometimes Fugen or changing up the second NPC. I like Hinoa for the heals as it sometimes helps me not have to use my own heals and keep attacking.
Dont pick followers with Greatsword, Gallius with GS is such a joke he never connects a single hit and kept dying duh But Utsushi with hammer is such a monster Hinoa’s AI is broken in a bad way when using bow. If monster flinch down, most AI will straight attack the tail, but Hinoa just walk to the tail and sheath and unsheath her bow like a toy
So from what I'm reading literally everywhere: Hinoa with Hunting Horn confirmed best or at least most useful follower? I thought I liked bringing her because I'm biased and she's my favorite NPC in Rise but it turns out she really is favored by many, heh. Now if only she would shut up about Dango for a minute...
She's the most balanced I'd say? Atk/Def Up, Health Regen never goes wrong after all. Minoto is more defensive (Divine Blessing and Earplug), while Utsushi is even more offense (Atk/Element Up). The only actually "bad" follower is Jae I'd say, considering his signature item.
From a character perspective I favor Minoto, but Hinoa is imo the most useful Follower. As Followers don't do significant damage, pure support followers are the best. Hinoa's healing makes a noticeable impact on survivability. I suppose if you are skilled to the point of not getting hit you might want someone with more monster disabling skills instead, but that's not me.
Damn, I have this itch to go back to grinding the hamster wheel, that is MHR, and check out different follower combinations. I never actually considered these. Haven't played since Title Update 1 due to moving to play other games for change of pace.
I'm still sad we can't hunt with Iori and Yomogi. If they cam hold their own in the rampage (Especially Yomogi, and her more daka attitude), they should be hunting partners.
Luchika HBG Hinoa HH best combo for me . As a LS main its perfect and i let the follower Ride monster before end cooldown . ( change your option to ride monster if you unsheath and press the button ) . Wtf is this Usujoke same skill on both scroll !
TU3 is the best update so far for me, if only for this addition. On that note: Minoto HH(because waifu) + Hinoa HH(for heals) although now I'm a bit more inclined to run Minoto HH + Utsushi HH for more offensive songs. Hinoa heals are great and often come in clutch but against Anomalies or if you run Bloodrite, you'll almost never have to sheath to heal. Utsushi's attack buffs because attack is great, and Minoto provides the defensive buffs especially Divine Blessing and Earplugs. Bonus is if Minoto uses a Stinkmink which gives you a decent breathing space to wail on the monster. I'm not saying Minoto is the superior twin but I am saying that Minoto is the superior twin. Honestly just bring anyone you like! I personally just like Minoto the best, and I tend to bring the 2nd slot for a companion that Minoto talks to... which is 2/3rds HH possible users.
Finally, now I can embarrass myself in front of Admirals and Elders in a wider variety of quests.
You'll have some competition from jae XD

Dont pick followers with Greatsword, Gallius with GS is such a joke he never connects a single hit and kept dying duh
But Utsushi with hammer is such a monster
Hinoa’s AI is broken in a bad way when using bow. If monster flinch down, most AI will straight attack the tail, but Hinoa just walk to the tail and sheath and unsheath her bow like a toy
Spoiler
The urgent quest for the archdemon didn't allow me to bring them. After that it allowed me when redoing it.
event/low/high/rampage quests don't allow followers. think other quests are fine
I feel that the only followers that matter are Minoto and Hinoa😂
Just commenting to help with algorithm, have a nice day
Damn, I have this itch to go back to grinding the hamster wheel, that is MHR, and check out different follower combinations. I never actually considered these.
Haven't played since Title Update 1 due to moving to play other games for change of pace.
Damn. I didn't realize this system was this deep.
As an LBG main I picked Hinoa and Luchika and never looked back!
Reading the comments seems like Hinoa is the MVP. Thx for the vid Rurikhan
If you want to stay alive she is lol
Hinoa and Utsushi both using hunting horns are the best followers
Utsushi's Gunlance scrolls are amazing lol
I'm still sad we can't hunt with Iori and Yomogi. If they cam hold their own in the rampage (Especially Yomogi, and her more daka attitude), they should be hunting partners.
My dream TU is taking the Hell Hunters to slay Akantor and Ukanlos.
Hinoa and Minoto double hh is broken, the buffs are crazy
Defense arlo saved my life when fighting the sergios, granted his limited attacking cause the Sergio to target me more. -_-
I didn't know about their varied playstyles
Hah I naturally always brought Luchika and Hinoa. I have an amazing HH set I use as wall that does damage and makes me near immortal
Yo, Ace! Same skills on my gunlance, aye? Good hunting, right Ace?
for me the followers pull no aggro! the monster is on me 100% of the fight. Minoto only gets hate for 3 secs and thats it
thats good to know! now instead of hinoa and minoto i'll be picking hinoa and lance minoto!
* cough * pawn system * cough *
Imagine watching Rurikhan and not liking his videos, who would do such a thing?
Luchika HBG Hinoa HH best combo for me . As a LS main its perfect and i let the follower Ride monster before end cooldown . ( change your option to ride monster if you unsheath and press the button ) .
Wtf is this Usujoke same skill on both scroll !
Eh I only bring the boys because I'm not a fan of the girls
TU3 is the best update so far for me, if only for this addition. On that note:
Minoto HH(because waifu) + Hinoa HH(for heals) although now I'm a bit more inclined to run Minoto HH + Utsushi HH for more offensive songs.
Luchika is my go to and I don't really understand why
Pretty sure every man knows why
Hahahahaha I'm laughing so hard when you say utsushi's both scroll is the same skill when using gunlance 🤣
do I have to do the follower quest chains first to unlock them?
Yes
@@ActionJaxonH thx a bunch 😁
