    Bet that's a real handy rifle. smaller deer in dense forests it should do fine. I've noticed the XTPs seem to be universally excellent performers

    I have used those same 110 gr jhp meant for the Carbine in 30 WCF cartridges at a moderate velocity as a varmint load with great satisfaction.

    Hopefully with the introduction now of .30 Super Carry and .327 Fed Mag, you'll have some better options for bullets for reloading. I look forward to a part 2 on this.

      Unfortunately the 30 SC, and 327 uses the same bullets, but wrong size. .312, better known as 32.

      @@The_Conspiracy_Analyst They make 308 XTPs that work great for the M1. Sizing dies are made to true up, and remove flash marks on cast lead bullets. I would never use one to knock down a bullet .004.

    Few years back i stocked up on WW 110 gr HP. My old Inland carbine really liked them....

    Hornady used to make a .308 90gr hp. I'm not sure if it's discontinued. I'm a big fan of the old 30 carbine. I used to own an AMT Automag 3 in that caliber and it was one of the coolest and smoothest shooting handguns ive ever owned. I bought it in the late 80s for 400.00 and had to sell it as one does when we need cash. Now you can't touch one for less than2000.00 if your lucky. Anyway a great little cartridge and I dig your carbine 👍

      It's actually a .309, and they do still make it. It's built for the higher velocities, and would work well in a M1 carbine

    Merry Christmas and I hope you get over the cold soon. The 30 carbine can perform, but it may be the trickiest of all guns to achieve that with. It should be deer-worthy at moderate ranges with good bullets. It's not so much the cartridge; other guns chambered for the 30 carbine can give excellent accuracy, but this one often just doesn't like anything soft on the front part of the bullet. I'm still hoping to find one I can afford one day just to play with. Should have bought one long ago when I had more money...

    Santa? Is that you? I want a CZ58 rifle but chambered in their 7.62×45mm, 10K of NEW ammo, and two dozen 30rnd mags to fit. I'd like the dust cover made to be well fixed to the reciever(like the Israeli Galil or the Finnish AK's) with built in piccatiny rails and a 3X prizm sight. Thank you!

    Coating the exposed lead with powder coat bullet lube helps feeding. I had the same issues with 110 grain HP reloads

    Several years ago SOG had surplus m1 carbine ammo from Israel that was soft point. About $15 for 50 rounds. I wish I bought much more. I miss that place.

    Great idea using the 32 cal bullets sized to 308! I also have a very hard time finding both loaded ammo and reloading compomnents for my M1 Carbine. I wonder how fast you can get the 60gr HP or 71gr HP (meant for the 32 ACP )going in the 30 carbine . I really like that stock on your 30 carbine. If I come across and old stock like that I'm putting it on mine. Merry Christmas

      This was made from an Inland-made M1 carbine. The conversion was done in the late 1950's or early 1960s and it was beautifully done. It fits me like it was made for me, and weirdly it was relatively affordable because it was 'ruined' by sporterizing it. It's similar to some kits that were offered at the time, but I suspect this was a one-off rather than converted from one of those kits.

    Is the 30 carbine worthwhile vs a 9mm carbine?

    • @tinkertalksguns7289
      @tinkertalksguns7289  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes and no. It is dramatically more powerful and arguably has a somewhat longer effective range; that's one side. OTOH there are no modern carbines chambered for .30 Carbine and ammunition is much less easily available and much, much more expensive. If you already have an M1 Carbine it can be useful for home defense and small-to-medium game, but these guns are expensive for what you get and you can get a much more modern, easier to feed and cheaper to run weapon in 9mm. The 9mm carbine is not less useful as a home-defense weapon and many of them use inexpensive and readily available Glock magazines. I think overall the 9mm Carbine makes a lot more sense in the modern world. I bought this one because it was beautiful, unique and I could rationalize that it filled a need as a short-range hunting rifle for our relatively small local deer.

      @@tinkertalksguns7289 I appreciate your well considered and well stated opinion. The 30 Carbine has been a “want” of mine for a long time but prices, availability have kept me from doing so. Additionally, the lack of modern support and unreliable feeding has me less than excited. I’d like something with more power than 9mm but not as “blasty” as a 556.
