    I just purchased a new 9mm Taurus G3C for my daughter. As I was polishing the ramp and other components - and repeating a 100 round firing - I remembered this video and thought to view it again.
    I cannot resist restating what I commented over a year ago - this makes an AMAZING difference. This new gun worked flawlessly during a 100 round test when I unboxed it. However, after polishing, the action worked much faster and feed flawlessly. In addition, the action was much quieter. I have no hesitation handing this over to my daughter to use as her EDC.

    I use FLITZ. The best polish I have ever used and I'm a 26 trucking veteran. I've been through hundreds of different types of polish but FLITZ is the best by far! No prepping, or sanding necessary as long (as it's already smooth) and get a dremel amd start polishing away.

    Chamber polish on a pistol might be okay (I don't know), but on a rifle chamber it's advised against because the chamber texture helps grab and hold the casing lessening bolt head fatigue/damage and it assists in the sealing of the chamber preventing gas blowback.

    I'd guess that half of all feed issues aren't so much mechanical, as they are THIS right here, it's one place that manufacturers save money, especially on budget models. I do this, to a minor degree on every firearm I've ever owned(that had a ramp), and I've yet to have a feed issue I can blame on the weapon. Currently, my G3C had very minor issues with hesitant feeds(never failed, just the feel was off), it was 100% a fault on the feed ramp, I think it took me 5 minutes to fix, and hundreds of rounds later I still love the little pistol, and have 100% confidence in it. You do not need a razor sharp entry to the ramp btw, that alone could create problems with any lead tip defensive rounds, or lightly crimped rounds depending on your firearm, and feed angle. Don't forget that little bit of work on the entry also helps with extraction! Regardless of the firearms price, I would always inspect, and pay some attention to it, if applicable.

      i bought a g3c as my first pistol. 9 times out of 10 it will fail to feed any kind of hollow point, it obviously gets caught on the feed ramp. any FMJ its 100% fine never fails.. just hollows.. going to polish it and hope it helps lol

      @TerminalM193 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ask any competent gunsmith if polishing the feed ramp to a striker fired pistol helps. Every single one of them will tell you absolutely not and that you're now introducing more points of failure. It's purely esthetic. If your firearm isn't feeding its not because of a feed ramp. The only time this will work hand in and is specific 1911 or similar pistols and that's just to further insure the feeding of defensive rounds.

Wrap a needle file with a cleaning patch that has been charged with the polishing compound and work it inside the hook and the lower edge where the rim feeds up into the hook. I'm glad you talked about the casing expanding against the chamber.
    In various Vietnam veterans forums, there's been a lot of anecdotal incidents of the M16 jamming during a firefight. The fault there was not the weapon. It was the DOD switching to "ball powder", against the advice of Stoner. One consequence was that the ball powder accelarated the cycling of the weapon. That meant the bolt/extractor was moved rearward at the exact instance when the casing was most expanded against the chamber, causing the infamous "failure to extract".

    I had some feed issues last night at the range. I was using FMJ Flat Nose that should NOT have misfed, but some did. First thought (along with an overall cleaning) was to polish the feed ramp, I didn't think about polishing the barrel. I know what I'm doing later! Thanks THG!

    Going to do this with my wife’s .22 Mosquito. Big lip from the feed ramp to the breach, so any flat-ish hollow points miss feed like crazy.

    Thank you so much for this video. Very helpful. Simple and straight to the point. I've just ordered a nice dremel, a set of bobs and compound. Looking forward to polishing up my feed ramps and chamber mouthes on some old guns that need it badly. Very nice detail on this. I wish more people made videos as good as this. I do have one question. Is there a way to clean the felt bobs for reusing them, or once they are used are they pretty much spent?

    • @jigs616161
      @jigs616161 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would toss them. They get really nasty and I can't see it getting clean again. You'll love the results of the polish. I did mine months ago and am going to do some more of my weapons. There's also polishing of other internals, you'll find lots on TH-cam. Good luck.

      Most felt bobs start breaking down and especially if you're polishing brand new factory fresh parts, they tend to be very sharp and precise which will start making the Bob spray little bits of the felt everywhere and you don't want that in your gun

  • @PTurbo86

    Just did this tonight. I used the conical bob you used on the ramp, and I used mothers. However, my conical felt bob was kind of the hard felt one. Same color as yours, but I'm hoping I didn't dope it up by using the harder felt bob, or does it make no difference? I just got the mirror finish to show on the ramp and chamber interior a bit, and lower RPM and less time than you did.
    Subbed by the way, sir. Thank you for showing that dremels, when used properly, won't burn the steel away like a damn grinding wheel. :D

    • @TheHobbyGunsmith

      Makes no difference the compound does all the work. speed does play its part though, but as long as its smooth you are golden. Glad this video helped you out sir.
