I just want to say that I think this way of teaching language is really smart; pretty much one of the best ones out there, and I wish more people knew about it because I think it would really help. Great job guys with doing this, it helps a lot!

Hi, I am a doctor in linguistics I speak 8 languages and this is THE BEST VIDEO I HAVE FOUND TO LEARN GREEK. CONGRATULATIONS and keep up with the excellent content and methodology.
Really well done. I wish more language videos used this excellent approach - everything in the target language (no need to wade through minutes of pointless English), subtitles in both target language and English, clear, realistic conversations. 10 out of 10!
There should be more videos at this level, it 's perfect for the beginning, you should probably put it at the beginning of the playlist, like some 'start here' position
Ah now we are getting some content that is particularly for those learning/beginning Μπραβο Well structured and using modern language not stodgy text book stuffl- stuff that we can relate to

As a new student of the Greek language I thank you for this type of video. I found it to be easy to understand and I appreciate the slower pace of speaking. I can follow much better this way. Is it possible to do more of these basic videos please for the very new people like myself please? I am now a subscriber and enjoy your videos very much.
I've been reading a lot about the pronunciation of Koine Greek vs modern, and I've been persuaded that the pronunciation of today's Greek is extremely close, if not the same, to what it was back during the Koine days. Apparently, the Greek language has changed at a much, much slower pace over the centuries compared to other Indo-European languages. It's very interesting. I've been loving studying both Koine and modern Greek at the same time, all the while noticing all the similarities between the two.
This video was so amazingly good, any chance of more like this in the future? (I'd love to write this comment in Greek but a:I don't have a Greek keyboard and b: I'm not nearly good enough XD) I really like this way of learning from hearing and seeing instead of in a classroom. Efcharisto para poliiiii
I am still working on my French when I fell in-love with Greek. Maybe I can commit watching this one video repeatedly, once a day, to have some basic grasp on how Greek language is like. It's the first time I tried to venture outside of a language family familiar to me.
@@annat6131Which is always hilarious to see Greeks do. Because when they slow down even a little, they usually look a bit embarrassed as if they're talking like an idiot. Meanwhile us mere mortals still struggle when their 10x speed language is spoken at 5x.😂
also leptos means thin or slim and in the plural of neutral nouns sounds like lepta for example ΄΄τα λεπτα κοριτσια'' ta lepta koritsia (the thin girls)
In case you still want to know, it's because "many people" in the Greek sentence is singular. "Κόσμος" is a singular masculine word meaning "the people" or "the world" or "the crowd". So when referring to "ο κόσμος", the singular form of the verb, "μένει" is used
«Μην αργήσεις» means "don't be late." Μην Is used for negative commands, and verbs after it are formed in the subjunctive. «Δεν αργήσεις» (you are not late) is incorrect, the correct form is «δεν αργείς», in the indicative.
You know how there are three different captions? The top is Greek, and the bottom is English, but what is the middle called? Can you buy books in this language? I’m struggling with the Greek alphabet so I thought maybe this would be a good base.
It's not a separate language, it's the Greek on top just written with Latin characters for people who are struggling with learning the alphabet in the first steps of their journey.
It's transliteration of the Greek with Latin letters. I would prefer it not be there, please. It's not the way I would spell it and anyway it's not needed because we can here you say it. No need to write it the way it sounds. You could save yourselves a lot of trouble by just leaving it off. I should say I did love it and found it very helpful. I hope you have more at this level. I just came from a video that Greekpod101 calls "absolute beginner" fbb it is not, this is. Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
@@InnerProp For me, it’s actually a really helpful tool because it suits my learning process and makes it much easier for me to begin with Greek. When I see it written down with the Latin characters, I find it easier to memorise and I can hear the pronunciation in my head. With the Greek alphabet I find it much harder to separate it from other words so I can never remember the pronunciation! I’m so glad they put it on, it’s very considerate of them to include something they didn’t need to include for the sake of others understanding. Each to their own, I guess! Better to have a tool there so each person can choose whether it is relevant rather than never offer it in the first place because some people don’t want it. Good for you that you are able to get by without it, you sound like you’re doing very well, I wish you the best with your language learning :)
@@InnerProp it actually could be more helpful, if it was transcription and not transliteration. Some people have already learned that "nt" is pronounced as "d", but keeping "nt" in the captions makes it a little longer to process.
Yes. We often use κι when then next word begins with a vowel for fluidity. So, instead of e.g. ke esy, it sounds more like "kyesy", as one. But if you use και instead of κι in these contexts it's also perfectly fine.

It’s incredible how similar Greek and Spanish phonetics are. As I Spaniard, I can’t understand a word but everything sounds so familiar…
That's good news. I am English, I know quite a bit of Spanish, but haven't practiced for quite a while, but learning greek at the moment

The speech is authentic but they’re talking slower/with longer gaps in between words for easier comprehension of each word individually
