  • Hello from the sewing room!
My lovely sister recently gifted me a bouquet of tulips, which inspired me to make a tulip quilt block. Here’s the result!
This block measures 9.5 inches square when pieced together, and it will finish in your quilt project at 9 inches square.
I use one background fabric and three coordinating fabrics to make the block. It’s comprised of squares, half-square triangles, log cabin type patches, surrounded by a border with a cornerstone.
I show you how to make each element of the block. I use a strip piecing technique for the log cabin patch, which is very much like my log cabin block tutorial that’s available for you on my channel.
I do stress the importance of measuring each patch before you join them together to form the block. This a good practice for any block as well.
I use a scant quarter inch seam allowance on most of the seams. You may want to experiment with a practice block to see if you prefer to do the same or simply use a quarter inch seam allowance.
So choose some fabrics that make you smile and enjoy sewing this block!
    Thank you for watching!

It’s a beautiful block! Thank you for demonstrating it. I have a question. Would it work out to make it with a full quarter inch? Every time I hear “quarter inch seam” I almost shudder!

@louisevannoden I mostly use scant quarter-inch seam allowances and have good luck. I have a video on that topic and try to reiterate in my videos. Happy quilting and thank you for watching and commenting!
