So many childhood memories of this show - remember watching this original VHS of this at 3 years old back in 1997 it’s one of the earliest memories, I remember growing up! I remember, watching Simon Phillips and particular and I was absolutely floored by his drum kit, and how big it was, in addition to his incredible playing, and I knew after watching him, I wanted to be a drummer for the rest of my life. I’m so glad the whole show is finally on a TH-cam!
Was also lucky enough to be there that day as was Richie Hayward chatted with him he said the very memorable line when I asked him if he was Richie Hayward , he replied “ I’m the only one I know “ . Was happy to chat about little feat grooves . Top man . Thanks for posting this . ( Richie wasn’t playing just a guest ) .
Much better than I remembered it from the time it came out. I was so into Weckl, Calaiuta at the time. Now that I'm much older I appreciate it much more. What I wanted to comment on though was man, his drums were awesome!.... they were top of the line Pearl at that time. Anyway, good stuff
No, I surely can't reproduce that in any way but I still have an opinion. I cannot judge Trilok but liked what he did.Simon and especially Gregg were practicing onstage, which is fine but not entertaining. Dennis was in the zone.
@@brent3760 How old are you!!!??? Very young I assume. Who is one of the top drummers of the 70’s and 80’s that revolutionized drumming FOREVER with open hand technique and leading with both hands? And clearly Simons biggest influence.
Accomplished players. The video shows a moment, where athletic and rudimentary exercises were viewed with more interest. Obvious similarity between Chamber, Phillips, then Biss. Even Gurtu, seems to have a modus operandi of power to stick. Questionable with hindsight.
@@morbidmanmusicThese men all sound (and crucially LOOK) similar, therefore “generic”. That is questionable in itself: as each passage or phrase of “identity” from them seems to be concluded with near identical “athletic flourishes” from the same core principles. So, what is described by me above (whether you in isolation understand, or not) IS questionable, not least because anything that excites an audience-majority of “drummers” will invariably be of limited musical value. Sorry, that while these players are accomplished, their craft is in fact quite simply hitting ‘idiophones’ So there are lots of questions to be asked, therefore “questionable” Regards

Amazing drumming by all.
I love that thing that Trilok does at 35:56 with the cymbal bell and snare. I need to figure that out.
I miss this VHS! Got introduced to it at Baltimore Drum Source in ‘94.

He's playing Red Baron by Billy Cobham.

Simon Phillips was skinny jacked. And a snazzy dandy.
Dennis chambers goodness 1:11:45
Dennis is about as good as it gets.
Really only worth it for one drummer. We know who that is
Name rhymes with "Venice game furs."
