Great video mate I’ve been meaning to cross the bridge, my dad and grandad botched worked on that bridge it opened sept 1966 and the panels that make the bridge were made at Fairfield’s chepstow and floated down the river then put in place, amazing feat of engineering, good to see you out and about and more eels, I caught some last week at divers 👍
Thank you Shaun, I enjoyed reading your comment. Interesting that your Dad and Grandad both worked on the bridge, very good indeed! Well done on getting a few at Divers last week, that's a cracking mark isn't it! Hope all is good your end, have a nice weekend 👍
Quite a bit of action in the video. Great to see those rods twitching. Couldn't believe my luck when I opened TH-cam and saw you had posted again. So kind and caring of you to shout out to those members doing it tough at the moment. I would be confident people would feel safe telling you about their struggles. You just put out that vibe. Ah yes, I've become quite aware recently that several of my subscribers are not well, although they find the videos help them to relax and this is good to hear. As you say, so important to be able to offload, bottling things up just makes it worse. I like a deep chat, always good for mind and soul! Have a good weekend, enjoy! 👍
I meant to ask too if the old Severn Bridge is upstream or downstream from the new one? I drove over the newer bridge from Cardiff to Bristol when we were over there in 2018. I really needed to concentrate as the traffic was crazy busy.
The old bridge is upstream of the new one. The new one is called the Prince of Wales Bridge. If you ever travel over the old one in the future, stop off at Aust (park on Passage Road), just a nice place for a wander. Or on the Welsh side, in-between the two bridges, Black Rock is a nice place to visit, free carpark there too which is a bonus.
Thank you Scott. Yes we used to fish Aust a lot back in the 90s, those were the days, the Cod fishing was quite good, November was usually my lucky month there. Hope all is well, cheers for watching 👍
What a thoroughly enjoyable video. You peaked my interest from the start when you said you are not worried if you dont catch as being there is enough. Absolutely spot on my friend, true anglers appreciate more than fish. I loved seeing the silver eels and letting my imagination drift, thinking of their year-long journey to the sargasso sea as you released them. A GREAT VIDEO FROM A GOOD DECENT MAN. (You have certainly just gained a sub from me) 👍🏻
Thank you Matt, much appreciated, nice of you to say. I just love being out there, spending a few hours next to the water, that's what it's all about for me nowadays, any fish which turn up are a bonus. Great to see the Silver Eels wasn't it, I hope that one day they can make a comeback. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Thank you James, much appreciated. Yes it was nice to see the green eels, they always bring back some good memories for me. Hope all is well, take it easy 👍
Ah thank you Tim, nice of you to say, I appreciate it. I always try my best to capture the full experience of my sessions. I love Aust, it's one of my old favourites, just a nice place to be. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
@@riversidewithme Used to fish the shingle bank and ledge 3hrs down. Good fishing a few years back. Went under or over bridge after the nomads took over the lane off the services. Too much for me now so your message resonates, Catch or blank, enjoy, savour being out there. Do it while and as often as you can.
You might have hit on to something there Gareth, haven't seen a silver eel that size for many a year yet you catch two in one sesion . Well done son , your a lovely caring man thanks for sharing with us .
Thank you Mick, it was great to see the Silver Eels. As you say, they are quite rare nowadays, numbers have massively declined. No problem, hopefully more to come soon. Enjoy the weekend 👍
In the 60s round about may and June there seemed to be an endless stream of elvers coming up the rumney river from the sea. You could put your hands in the water and scoop them up. You don’t see any now
Shame isn't it Ronald, numbers have massively declined. It was great to see those two at Aust, they certainly brought back some nice memories. I hope one day they can make a comeback. Cheers 👍
Up the walls of the black tunnel flowing from Pentwyn lake was covered with them as was blackweir on the lower taff (now middle class pontcanna taff) when I was a nipper in the 70s
Great video Gareth. The content and photography are outstanding and the other thing I have come to realise, you have a kind heart and a caring nature. Please keep doing what you do best!
Ah thank you Gordon, your kind words are appreciated. I try my best to make a relaxing watch, that's always my priority, I try to do my bit. Hope all is good with you, take care 👍
Thank you Martin, much appreciated. Yes that's right, I've often seen people there looking for fossils, I must do it myself one day. Enjoy the weekend 👍
I think, therefore I am. What can be better than a day by the water, thinking of what might be and what has been with the chorus of wild geese over head and a few fish as a bonus. Two great silver eels that are certainly not as plentiful as they where. Keep going with the great vlogs Gareth, I and others certainly look forward to the next, fish or no fish its great to see you at the water side.
Thank you Brian, I appreciate it, nice of you to say. Yes it was a lovely day out at Aust, I really enjoyed it and seeing those two Silver Eels brought back some nice memories. The geese were also on good form, quite a few flocks flew over during the morning. Cheers for watching, take care 👍
Hi Gareth, this video epitomises why we go fishing. All that hustle and bustle on the bridge behind you and yet there you are relaxing and fishing. Good on you mate.
Ah yes, that's it Nick. As long as a fishing rod is nearby, we can enjoy some relaxation time, regardless of the surroundings. Thank you, it was a nice day out in fairness, I couldn't complain. Enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video Gareth. Your videos are so relaxing and inspiring and have helped me through my illness immensely. As you say where there’s life there’s hope and the body is a great healer. We all need to make the most of every day especially while we still have our health. Thanks again, Dave, broadstairs, Kent ❤
Thank you Dave, I'm pleased to hear that the videos have helped you, that's great. I know that you've had a tough time of it, I appreciate it can't be easy. The body can heal, it really can...hang on in there and keep going, hopefully you can get out and do some fishing again. Cheers for watching, have a nice weekend 👍
Just finish a Saturday shift and see a mud video waiting to be watched. Not disappointed one bit seeing fish of my childhood past being caught. Was dirty coal colour water back then the slippery ones were caught in for me. Lay it on its back and it be good as gold was standard practice. Well done Gareth 👏 The winter geese are arriving, hopefully the eels will give you a break and allow Mr Cod to nod, nod for you 😅 Tight lines 🎣
Thank you Vince, I'm glad the video brought back some memories for you. Ah yes, I can imagine what the colour of the water was back then, although it was quite dirty when I was a kid ha! It would be lovely if a few Cod turned up this year, although I'm sure the Congers will do their best to take my bait first!, you know how much they like to follow me around!! Cheers bud, appreciated as always 👍
Absolutely amazing video again bud, genuinely the best channel and videos online. I don't get a chance to comment on them all but keep the videos coming, I always look forward to seeing another one uploaded, they jog some fantastic memories for me of my early days as boy and teen fishing with my Grandad. Cheers bud, hope you're well Matt
Hiya Matt, hope you're well bud. Thank you, I appreciate the kind words and I'm pleased that the videos bring back some nice memories of when you fished with your Grandad, that's great. The old days were the best, I miss them dearly, hence why I still love the old marks...I'm more than happy to blank ha! Good luck with your channel. Take care 👍
Brilliant video as usual Gareth.Fantastic filming and choice of music.looking forward to future videos . Your lovely words to those subscribers I'm sure has meant a lot. Take care x

No problem, I try to make a relaxing watch if I can, any fish that turn up are just a bonus. Cheers as always, have a good week 👍
Ah nice one Richard, great that you've got a few yourself this year, I'd love to see them make a comeback one day. Cheers as always, much appreciated 👍
Lovely video Gareth like you said it's not what you catch it's just being there i love eating eels smoked best of the best had loads years ago but have to buy them know
Thank you Clive, much appreciated. Yes definitely, spending a few hours next to the water is what it's all about for me nowadays. Dad and I used to eat a few back in the day and as you say, they are very good. Cheers 👍
Ah thank you Robert, nice of you to say. Swansea West Pier....now that's another old favourite of mine, I haven't fished it for a while, I must get back down there. I remember you telling me last week that you've had some nice fish off there this summer. Have a good weekend 👍
First class video of some beautiful scenery and its d@mn good to see a fellow Welsh man have so many tight lines as well! So refreshing to see genuine appreciation for angling and the outdoors plus such a good positive attitude towards fishing, true compassion for the people that partake and all that goes with it. Hi Gareth, many thanks for a brilliant video 😁 That mark has to be unique! I salute you for your kind words about those suffering and less fortunate, they touched home for many I am sure. The silver eels is a big positive! I remember digging earthworms in the back garden in the 1980s (free bait!) and going to my local river Stour. Caught many of them, particularly in coloured water. I have not caught one for years, so this is good news. Have a restful weekend and look after yourself 😊 thanks again 🎣
Thank you Andy, I appreciate the kind words. It's reassuring to know that the videos help a lot of people, I'm glad I can make a difference. Ah yes, like yourself we also used to dig earthworms and the Eels were guaranteed, as I'm sure they were on your local river Stour...the good old days, many great memories! Thank you, hope you have a good one too, take care 👍
Thanks pal, I haven't seen those eels for a long time, I used to catch loads of them when I was a kid, nice size one's too, they taste lovely as well, touches my mind and heart bud, thanks again 👌
You're welcome John. I remember you telling me about your eye, hope all is well. Yes there used to be loads of Eels about didn't there, those were the days, the best days. Cheers as always, have a good weekend 👍
Nice to see u back in the mud gaz, nice to see them eels as you said used to catch a dozen a tide between transporter bridge and yachting club by powerstation on earth worms, thanks for the poignant words gaz lovely sentiments......👍🏴
Thank you Daz, it was nice to be back on the mud again! Ah yes, the earth worm days, great weren't they, eels and flatties galore! No doubt you have many great memories!! Cheers bud, take it easy 👍
Thank you Tony, I'm pleased to hear that you enjoy the videos. Ha yes, I guess I'm quite a deep thinker, it's just the way I'm wired. Cheers for watching 👍

Another great video Gareth the best on TH-cam one of the most caring of people always thinking of others. It’s not about catching loads of fish it’s about being out there the fish is a bonus if it comes along. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Steve, I appreciate the kind words. I don't think I'm the best but nice of you to say. Yes you're right, just nice being next to the water isn't it, that's what it's all about. Hope you're well bud, take it easy 👍
Nice one Gareth, another great video, them eels were clonkers, don't see them very often these days,a bit like the sewin on the rivers, the river towy was the best sewin river in Europe at one time ,gone are the days. shame . So glad you are going to continue with the videos that's great news well all the best from south west Wales 👍
Thanks bud, appreciated as always. Ah yes, the Towy was a gem, such a shame that the glory days are no longer. I hope one day that our rivers can start to recover, I guess there's always hope. Hopefully more videos to come soon, take care and enjoy the weekend 👍
Absolutly fantastic video. Awsome, thankyou for sharing. Looks like you had a beautiful day and a great session . so good to see them silver eels, especily as there supposed to be in decline. look forward to your next video Garath . Many thanks, very much appreciated.😄
Thank you Gavin, appreciated as always. Yes it's a big shame that the Silver Eels have declined so rapidly. I really do hope that they can eventually bounce back, such an important part of the ecosystem. Should be another video this coming Friday with a bit of luck, if I can get the edit done in time ha! Cheers bud, take it easy 👍

Great video as always Gareth and great to see eels of that size, I normally fish new passage over low and then onto the grass for high to the right, cod hotspot right until December then normally falls off
Thank you Craig, much appreciated. Ah yes, I know the mark you're talking about, although I haven't fished it for a few years now. Cheers for the info, I'll have to give it another go soon. Take care 👍
Thank you Paul, much appreciated. Yes you're right there, your relative is proof of that bud, can't fault it. Hope all is good with you...take it easy 👍
Another great video Gareth and awesome to see those eel’s and like yourself not seen them that big since the 80’s fishing up Newport way. Not a mark I’ve fished before but looks an easy fishing venue but guessing it’s only 2.5 hrs either side of high on a medium tide ? Now bring on the unicorn fish this month 🎣🎣
Thanks Marc, it was great to be back at Aust, it's an old favourite of mine. The eels were a nice surprise, as like yourself it's been a while since I've seen them that big. That's it, approximately 2.5 to 3 hours either side, on a medium tide. Closer to the bridge where the Rocky ground is, you can fish it right down to low and then a couple hours up but that's a more dangerous spot, the beach is much safer and it's easy fishing. Yes it would be nice if a few Cod showed up this time around! Cheers bud, take it easy 👍
Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed. Ah yes, I often see people collecting fossils there, I should have a look myself one day, it looks good fun. Cheers for the continued support, much appreciated 👍
Excellent video only started sea fishing thanks a really good friend of mine. We both love your videos the production quality is amazing and also help us see where our next mark will be. Like you catching a fish is an added bonus on top of being out chilling. We keep hoping we are going to bump into you at a mark to say in person what a cool bloke you are and keep doing what you do as like so many others here we think you and your videos are top draw.
Thank you Mark, I appreciate the kind words, nice of you to say. Great that you've started sea fishing, hopefully many enjoyable sessions to come for you. No doubt you will bump into me at some point, I can usually be found on a patch of mud somewhere ha! Cheers for watching, take it easy 👍
i think the concrete pier was left when they took the old sub station down when i was a kid we used to fidh off the grass bank by rhe waterboards old jetty by the george sr bridge now and againwe used to see the sand boats come in to the old town dcxk and their were loads of eels about in them daus lol
Ah nice, sounds like you have some good memories of when you fished it as a kid. I only started to fish here from the early 90s onwards but it soon became a favourite of mine. Shame the Eel numbers have declined so rapidly, hopefully they can make a comeback one day. Thanks Phil, take care 👍
Cheers Matt. Hope all is good with you and the family. Watched some of your videos in the week, I needed a dose of Caster's after a tough few days at work. Have a good weekend 😍
Another great video. From about the age of 7 or 8 I learnt how to fish on that beach and all the way down to Severn Beach where my great grandparents lived. My late Father would take me down there and even though he never fished himself he was the one who bought all my kit for me and took me all over the southwest and wales and would take me out fishing. That beach used to also be a great fossil hunting spot. Those eels took me back as eels that size pretty much all we caught back then. 53 now, still fishing and still fish around those parts. Although these days prefer the salt marsh above and below that beach or the shingle bar at low tide. ( A dodgy mark if you get it wrong) Thanks for bringing back those memorys❤
Great comment bud, sounds like you have some fantastic memories of when you fished here with your late Father, I bet you have some great stories to tell. Lots of big eels about back then wasn't there, those were the days. Often Dad and I just used earth worm as we couldn't afford ragworm back then but it didn't seem to matter, the Eels and Flounders didn't care! Cheers for watching, have a good weekend 👍

@@riversidewithme Thanks for the tips!
Great video again. An interesting venue. I’ve often wondered what’s it’s like fishing there when crossing the bridge. Looking forward to the next one👍
Thank you Scott. Yes we used to fish Aust a lot back in the 90s, those were the days, the Cod fishing was quite good, November was usually my lucky month there. Hope all is well, cheers for watching 👍
@@riversidewithme my pleasure Gareth
As always Gareth,A very good watch.I was impressed with the green eels. They were both over a pound.👍
Thank you James, much appreciated. Yes it was nice to see the green eels, they always bring back some good memories for me. Hope all is well, take it easy 👍
Beautiful photography. Beautiful sound-track. Fishing. Philosophy. Compassion. Humility. Humour. This is what human ought to mean.
Its always a pleasure to watch your videos buddy eels are welcome with me, especially at that size to.
Thanks bud, I appreciate it. Aust is an old favourite of mine, something very special about the place. Enjoy the weekend 👍
@@riversidewithme And you to buddy

Thanks Craig. Yes last year seemed to be a very poor Cod year, hopefully a much better season this time around! Cheers as always 👍
Nice to see you back fishing mate
Thank you Phillip, it was nice to be out there again, great day out in fairness. Take care 👍
Thanks
In the 60s round about may and June there seemed to be an endless stream of elvers coming up the rumney river from the sea. You could put your hands in the water and scoop them up. You don’t see any now
Shame isn't it Ronald, numbers have massively declined. It was great to see those two at Aust, they certainly brought back some nice memories. I hope one day they can make a comeback. Cheers 👍
Up the walls of the black tunnel flowing from Pentwyn lake was covered with them as was blackweir on the lower taff (now middle class pontcanna taff) when I was a nipper in the 70s
Nice, bet that was an awesome site! Shame the numbers are so low nowadays.
Hi Gar, another great video, you inspire me to keep watching and looking forward to seeing the next one thank you mate... Nik
Hiya Nik, hope you're well bud. Thank you, I enjoyed my day out at Aust, lovely place in fairness. Hopefully more to come soon, enjoy the weekend 👍
Great video again. I love Aust because if you ain’t catching you can find some quality fossils down there. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Martin, much appreciated. Yes that's right, I've often seen people there looking for fossils, I must do it myself one day. Enjoy the weekend 👍
You are the best fisherman on you tube mate for sure!!!!

Nice one Gareth mate, nice mark and some decent eels bud , appreciated as always 🎣👍🏼👍🏼
Thanks bud, it was a nice day out in fairness, lovely mark. Hope all is good with you. Cheers 👍
Well done Gareth 👏
The winter geese are arriving, hopefully the eels will give you a break and allow Mr Cod to nod, nod for you 😅
Tight lines 🎣

Great video as always!!
Some good fossils to be found on Aust Beach too :)
Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed. Ah yes, I often see people collecting fossils there, I should have a look myself one day, it looks good fun. Cheers for the continued support, much appreciated 👍

( A dodgy mark if you get it wrong)
Thanks for bringing back those memorys❤
Great comment bud, sounds like you have some fantastic memories of when you fished here with your late Father, I bet you have some great stories to tell. Lots of big eels about back then wasn't there, those were the days. Often Dad and I just used earth worm as we couldn't afford ragworm back then but it didn't seem to matter, the Eels and Flounders didn't care! Cheers for watching, have a good weekend 👍
Thank you for the video mate 👍
