    Good video Dennis as always. I remember growing up on the farm, and how we had more trouble with local hunters thinking that just because your farm was local and they were neighbors, that gave them the permission they needed to hunt your woods. It didn't take my father long to get it through their heads that it was his property, and not theirs. They just needed to learn to respect his rights as the land owner. One even told my father, that the original owner gave him permission, and thought that meant it was ok, even though a new owner had the farm he didn't have to ask. I'm not sure how they came to that reasoning, but they did.

    I have a 42" Gravely Zero-Turn mower. I wanted a wider one, but needed the narrower cut to get around things on our property. On our 2 acres, we have 43 trees - many large oaks, maples, hickories & locuses (the worst leaves), birch, black cherry & white pine. I may only mow the grass a couple times per month, but when the leaves fall, I easily mulch enough to fill a semi-trailer. My sister & family use to have a house way up in the hills just west of Amherst VA and about 1 mile or 2 east of the Jefferson National Forest area. I love the views from this video!!!

    Thanks for sharing.Those box blades sure turn a pigs ear into a nice 3 course meal if you got a good one and the right operator and material. We had an older trailed one at the seed plant i worked for. It didn't have the left/ right independent angle so it was straight up or down to level,and a bit limiting sometimes . That was fun running it grading dirt a 9400 JD was dropping with a towed scrapper conversion . The guy said when i'm doing my leveling pass he'd be right behind don't stop or i'll drive right over you !!!!!!!!!. 5 hours one day I did that pulling the blade with a near worn out 2 wd JD 2950 and the 4wd never stopped just like he said. He was 10ft behind every load he dumped, You get good at running the blade real quick like that if you never done it before.

      Thanks for the reply I guess thats what happens with guys doing our kind of work you don't hear much like this from office or store workers with boring jobs. The job was filling a few acre low spot down the side of the farm drive, that flooded every spring causing issues with the house basement and lawns in wet years. we took the high spot off that was the other side of the tree line in the field. All he did was drive up the field loading then pull in the top and drive down where I was leveling emptying the next load behind me. After an hour getting into the swing of it I actually liked doing it and spent hours dirt leveling with that blade and tractor in fields where he did drainage work .

    Hell of a tractor there. I maintained a mile and a half of drive with an insanly steep section that was impassable in the winter except for my 4x4 with chains and locked differentials front and rear and even then I'd constantly break stuff trying to get home. Anyway, It took me about 15 years to finally get a tractor loader, used, 67 international. I built me a box blade. Had the road fixed, made new roads, cleaned up sections of the property that had gone to hell over the years. Made a 3ph wood splitter, built a big ol garden.. and then the engine went, and my life was empty.. Some day I'll be able to afford another tractor.. or fix the old one.. But I'll never look at work the same way again.

    Looking through the back window that looks like a KingCutter brand. But, no chisels. I have a 7' super heavy one I built without chisels or schredders and it does well, but is more a spreader than the one I have with chisels. That one digs ahead if the blade and does a helluva lot more work faster.

    That’s my favorite piece of equipment. We call them land levelers. The one I have only has two tires in the rear. Yours is a better design I can see that 4 tires give added stability. What I don’t like is that it will kick gravel off the sides and it’s real hard to move gravel from side to side like a road grader. I saw a design that functions like a road grader you pull similar. But I’ve never operated one.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a six way scraper blade that can move gravel side to side but it's much more difficult to make a smooth finish with it. It can be done but takes a lot of patience.

    That box blade works really well for you at skimming those leaves off. Is it fairly straightforward to operate to get the sort of results you are wanting most of the time?
    It is hardly surprising that those hunters were told to leave after behaving like that! - it is almost as though they seemed to think that the property was theirs to do with as they liked! What an ultimate insult to change the entrance lock on the gates and not inform or ask the owners for permission to do so and provide them with at least one key!!

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Dan Whiteford. I don't know what those hunter's were thinking, I guess since the owner is hardly ever there they were going to take over the place. It didn't go so well. Lol. Yes the box blade is very easy to get good results with anyone could catch on quickly at operating it, I would think.

    Love your many excellent videos. I am a farmer's son 30 miles north of London in England, we had Ford tractors when I was a child, we had 7600's , 6600's and TW-35s. I have recently bought numerous old Fords including an 8730. England does not have box blades, I imported some from Everything Attachments in Kentucky last year. They are great but we lack the expertise over here to use them to maximum advantage. Please would you explain the advantages and disadvantages of a drawbar box blade compared to a 3 point version. I note that in this video you said that if you were not able to get good results you would return with a 3 point box blade. In theory I would have expected a trailed box blade to beet a 3 point version every time. Thank you.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Paul Collins. It really depends on the size of your job and what your trying to accomplish each have there place. The bigger draw bar type is good at moving lots on material and spreading it out and getting things roughed in but when it come to fine tuning a driveway and getting all the ridges out typically a smaller more controllable blade will leave a nicer finish, like a 6 foot three point box with a hyd top link for controlling depth of cut or you can tilt it way back for just a smoothing action and no cutting. Also we use a hyd side arm link to control tilt so we can crown the road.

    I like that you can angle the box blade, we do some grading on our hilly drive after a good wash with a 6' blade. but no crown.
    As for the leaves, I'd rig that blower if possible to blow the leaves to the sides. Save you time and fuel. Also seems even just litely raking you probably do waste some material when you push the leaves off.
    Either way looks like it's providing you with revenue taking care of it.
    When you add gravel do you provide it or do they have a pile somewhere?
    LOL the hunters locked them out? geeze!
    We give permission on our property now and then and we insist on notifying us when on the property so we can let them know who else may be there and where... mainly to keep it safe.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Atoyota. We provide the gravel also when it needs it. It does keep a little money flow going I was told to do whatever to keep everything in good shape and they are always very appreciative. Sounds like you have a good system for allowing hunters.

    No começo desses dois travessões na diagonal frontal, acho que se soldar um um metal embaixo na diagonal para trás, com um espesso gancho; o gancho vai ficar passando cinco centímetros dentro da terra, então possibilitará mais estabilidade na ferramenta, e não vai atropelar o excesso de terra. Esse travessão adicional, pode ser encaixado e regulado com travas na transversal.
    Ou colocar peso em cima da ferramenta.

    You had your mirror saver right on the front, but you didn't use it. I run mine with the loader up when I see those mirror getters in my way, it usually snaps them lil bastards right off before they can whip around and hurt things, lol. That grader box sure is handy, I wish I would have known you when I lived in Stuart, our damn driveway was about 40 degrees and had 4" minus spread out on it. Every time it rained it was like riding down the hill on ball bearings and praying no one was coming down the road so you didn't slide right into them. I would have gladly paid you to scrape some that rock off of there.

    Do you have low tire pressure on the right side? We have an old pull type exactly like that but we call it a speed mover. I’m almost sure they are the same company. Anyway it just looked like it was a little heavy cutting on the right.

    • @DLHFarms
      @DLHFarms  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Strangefruit. I explained in the video that the road has crown so I tilted the blade to the right to maintain the crown it helps to shed water off the road. It makes the road high in the center so it sheds water off both sides equally.
