      Motherfucker, you know that it takes vegetation to produce the % of oxygen in the air that multi-cellular organisms need to survive right? How about California stop creating fires? I am not convinced the sun is doing it.

    Killer machine. I'm also impressed at how quiet the cab is. When you run or work for a land clearing company, that cab is your office. There's good reason modern equipment has all the creature comforts. More comfort = more time in the operator's seat before fatigue sets in.

    Manzanita, primary fuel for a fast travelling fire. The manzanita burns high and hard and ladders it right up into the pine canopy. Once that happens in windy conditions, there is no fighting it. A friend of mine in malobu Canyon had a house with a swiming pool acting as a surge tank for a high volume sprinkler system. He still lost the house because the wind borne manzanita embers went right over the "wet zone" and his own landscaping burned back into the house. People out in the subrban areas that live along the brush areas need to learn more than stop, drop and roll..... A weekend spent learning fire safe practices on the cal fire website can save a lot of misery.

    I know a guy in central ca that runs one of those prime tech 300s. He runs a tracked chipper paired with it in areas where he’s going to take down a bunch of trees. The masticator or mulched will take down the tree and the tracked chipper with grapple arm then chips it. Saves a bunch of time versus the mulched trying to chip up the tree.

      I know the feeling I was in a similar position with my land but I ended up spending my saved money on a good used bulldozer. I am using it to clear and reshape the land as well. Got a great used 45,000 lbs machine for less than a skid steer and a mulching head. Might want to check into that.

    That machine is amazing. I did wildland fire 20yrs or so ago. Did a fire in SoCal, cut manzanita 15ft tall with a 20 man crew. That stuff kills saw chains, super hard, so it was more amazing to watch this machine rip thru it. I am looking into starting a business doing this. Can you please tell us what you charged for this job. It would help figure things. Per acre or something. Thanks and keep up the good work.

  • @jasonc3522
    @jasonc3522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    @Vbelt, you mentioned that you guys had to put a rush on this job because you were getting into the dry season. My question is, does mulching season overlap with prescribed fire season, not that California allows much of a window for prescribed fire. As a side note, does CalFire contract mulchers on active fire?

    • @VBELTandSON
      @VBELTandSON  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We choose not to mulch in dry season. We knock out smaller jobs. Some guys mulch in the summer and idk what cal fire does

    • @jasonc3522
      @jasonc3522 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@VBELTandSON That makes sense, hot machines, rocks, and dry fuels could lead to a pretty big liability. If you could get a fire contract you could probably buy a couple of those monsters, and make the hand crews lives a lot easier to boot. Stay safe on those slopes, and thanks for the fast response.

    Watched this because they are mulching at the hunting club and I wanted a little background information.
    They used the kubota skid steer but some of the steep terrain they cleared is almost unwalkable but they drove in and out like it was nothing!
    In Alabama, 12 foot pines 4 to 6 feet apart, steep and rocky! They may not have finish mulched it nearly as close because of rocks but I was impressed!

  • @JacquesTreehorn
    @JacquesTreehorn 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Back in early 2000s we called these things hydro-axes. We would rough take them centerline for road and they could mow down 60' right of ways off centerline faster than we could give it to them. We kind of dreaded them because we had to work faster than them, which was impossible. 2008, 2009 housing crash happened and it has not gone as fast since. We are due for another boom. Keep them maintained and we will race you again.

  • @vaughanellis7866
    @vaughanellis7866 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Its one way of dealing with brush fire fuel, mulches it then tills it into the ground, Its that or the land owners have to do spot controlled burns to get shot of the brush, looks as though it has a decent winch on the back if you need work a really steep slope.

  • @U20E27
    @U20E27 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Its amazing how much brush is in there and what it takes to get it knocked down. I can remember doing that stuff as a teen with hand tools man that was hard work. These new machines are just awesome. I really hope the costs continue to come down on the equipment so it becomes far easier and more affordable for land owners to do this!!

    ok im not big on stripping the land like using a dozer too clear the brush like they use too do but clearing out like you guys dig is not too bad as long as it gets reseeded with good grass and not the scrub brush like that and i understand why they did it all that brush would have been a huge forest fire problem

  • @lesliegrayson1722

    I don't see any use having a huge machine like that if you have to sharpen it like a small one 4 times a day..... a two barrel team where one barrel is being sharpened whilst the other is working on a smaller cheaper machine seems better $$/time management!!!
    Maybe if it had a wider barrel (triple width) with a bigger diameter that would decrease load on sharpening but the barrel would need to be hollow, less weight.

    That looks a lot like manzanita bush/tree (smooth red bark). I think in my area of Southern California it's protected and illegal to cut down.

    The visibility out front looks very poor. The inside cab shots looking outward were very blocked. Do you feel safe with the restricted view?

      One of the best views out the front hands down. I don’t know how you would get a better view than this machine. And view out back in achieved with your mirrors and back up cameras. Feels very safe

    I was told if i buy a mulcher it needs to at least 300hp for the slopes and species of brush we have here in WV ..... i looked at skid steer mulchers and even demoed one (I believe it was a Fecon head with Deere stickers) i wasnt impressed ..... we run disc cutters or bushogs on skid steers and do pretty good ..... then grub an burn with hoes what ever is left ..... love your videos and mulchers ..... i always thought all of CA was goobers im sure like they think all of WV is hillbillies LOL

    so i wonder.. how many of those will it take to clear out the millions of acres of forest undergrowth here in California.. do you also cut away lower branches that the ends droop below 15 feet or so.. to reduce any horse riders thru the area head injuries..

      Wildlife can run away from this mulcher far easier than they can get away from a forest fire with 60+ mph winds.

    Curious to know why one would want to clear the bushes like that? I've read concerns of brushfire. Fair enough. But from a biodiversity standpoint, clearing the whole forest undercover like that is very destructive. This is a genuine question. No harm intended.
