Lotus is the seventh studio album by American singer and songwriter Christina Aguilera. RCA Records released the album on November 9, 2012. Its music incorporates pop styles with elements of dance-pop, rock in the form of upbeat songs and piano-driven ballads. Aguilera described the album as a "rebirth", drawing inspiration from events in her life, her appearance on The Voice, and her divorce. The album was recorded at Aguilera's home studio. As executive producer, she collaborated with a wide range of producers, including new partners Alex da Kid, Max Martin, Lucas Secon and Tracklacers.
Upon its release, Lotus received generally mixed reviews from music critics, who were ambivalent towards its lyrics and found its music conventional. It debuted at number seven on the US Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 73,408 units. Internationally, the album charted moderately, but obtained higher positions in Canada, Russia and Venezuela where the album reached the top 10. Two singles were released from the album in North America. The first single "Your Body" charted within the top 40 of most countries. The second one, "Just a Fool", was a duet with fellow The Voice coach Blake Shelton and peaked at number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100. Though not released as a single, "Let There Be Love" topped the US Dance Club Songs chart. In August 2013, along with a letter to her fans, Aguilera released a music video for the song. - บันเทิง

Unpopular opinion: this isn't a bad album. Christina's discography is just so amazing this one feels lackluster but it has soooo many bops. I will admit it feels the least Christina-esque. No wonder she doesn't really like it either lmao

Sal, don't worry. I'm one of the few fighters who actually like LOTUS, and I can admit it wasn't a cohesive body of work like all her other albums. The years she dropped this album, 2012, she was not in any way, ready to be a pop-star again. She was going through many things in her private life, and kind of just released this album because they had all this random material together and fans were still recovering from the Bionic debacle.
What's funny is, if you think about it, many of these songs could have been hits if given to other artists: for example, if "Make the World Move" was given to Justin Timberlake, or "All Around the World" was given to Rihanna. Again, they were decent pop-tracks.
But for an Xtina album, it was obviously sub-par.
As another commenter has said, the next album (X6), "Liberation", is her artist reawakening. She is no longer an artist in competition, but an artist who cares about her art again. Ironically, this will be her first short album --- no deluxe or b-sides --- and it works. Here she becomes a music artists again --- doing SOME promo, making 2 music videos, and finally after 10 years...goes on tour, not just once, or twice....but 3x in 2 years. (The Liberation Tour, The Xperience Residency, & the X Tour)
She totally owned her identity again back in 2018 until today. She went viral on a magazine shoot, did a Jimmy Fallon segment, did the Today Show, and was invited to perform at very high-end fashion shows. She attended fashion weeks again, and joined Tik-Tok. But all on her time, not ours. 2020 was going to be big for her again (she has a summer tour slated with Adam Lambert, and the promo for Mulan coming up), but Ms. Rona got in the way.
In any case, Xtina has finally found that balance of being a mom and being a vocalist she's been wanting since 2008. Sure it took 10 years, but Xtina is back, and better than ever.
"I ain't going no place, no, I'm here to stay".

I really enjoy this album, I feel like many didn't like this album bc they were not too keen on the visuals rather than the music itself.. which is sad really.
Some songs were a bit.. "loud" but I still jam this CD/album. To me this had a very 90's feel, esp with Circles & Shut Up. I also appreciated her dabbling with almost country/blues with "Just a Fool"
There was a lot of personal things going on in Christinas life (post-divorce) during this album, and I feel many songs represent that.

I enjoy listen to Lotus, a true fighter can understand and appreciate the meaning of this album. I love the concept of the unbreakable flower who remains strong and beautiful in adverse conditions. Xtina doesn't make music just to sell albums, Lotus represent a very difficult time in her life and she stayed creating uplifting songs with positive messages. But i respect your opinion and your sincerity. Let's see what you think about Liberation.

Sonically, it’s her worst album by far. And that’s the major problem with it. The producers and engineers dropped the ball. And it’s a shame, because I enjoyed the album lyrically. I think RCA wanted a pop sounding album so badly, which is why there is no RnB on this album. But Liberation is full of RnB, and Xtina definitely redeemed herself after missing the mark. All that said, I can appreciate a lot of songs from Lotus as a die hard fan.

A little bit of context and theory: Xtina wanted to do something personal after the fiasco that was the sabotage of Bionic and the personal attacks in the media about her image (she put on weight during that time). However, I believe that the album leaning towards more pop content was strictly something her label or The Voice contract asked for. She was teasing for years for a pop album to get to her roots, but I feel her input in this one (creatively) is not there or is really subdued. She may have written a few songs, but I still can't see Christina in this album. Meaning: the release of this album was rushed.
Although I love the more catty/playful songs in the album (Circles, Shut Up, Red Hot Kinda Love) and love some of the pop tracks and balads, the mixing of the instruments is awful. The production of many are on two extremes: too clouded or too empty and her voice is too over the tracks (again, bad mixing.) Her belts sound shouted even though they are not, her quiet voice sounds muddled behind the tracks, the reverb is daunting in many of them which clashes with the main vocals and on a more personal level, the melodies are not very good either.... I can go on.
This is an album that I still listen to due to the messages of some of the songs... not so much for the production. Yes. It's a hot mess.

I don't know Why but I have been in love for a long time with CEASE FIRE I completely love this song, I always thought it should be a soundtrack for a movie like "Hunger Games" or something like this! And I got really surprised seeing he didn't like JUST A FOOL that song could achieve a lot cuz without almost any promotion the audio have millions of view in TH-cam and was running in The top of Itunes... Love love loooove... BTW It isn't a completely mess! Just a basic and safe album ! But songs like "Just a Fool" , "Your Body", "LTBL", "AOM", "Cease Fire" "All around TW" "Sing 4 me" "Blank Page" "Light OTS" are really listenable songs to me

I think it's actually a decent pop album, even though many people don't give much credit. My only problem with this album is the mastering quality, but other than that, it's a good album. My fave song is Cease Fire!

Christina wrote a huge love letter to her fans and dropped a home video type music video for Let There Be Love with all of her dancers and friends. I’m pretty sure she got a #1 Dance chart for it as well. Honestly I skip to Your Body usually when I listen to this album, but I agree with everyone that the production on this album was just not great. Also she had an amazing live performance for blank page that I for sure recommend. Light Up the Sky was used for a lot of her charity work so it did get some love even outside of the main album track list.

We call Lotus underwhelming because we were fed with the greatnesses of Back to Basics and Stripped. For any other pop artist this would’ve been one of their best, for Xtina standards, it’s one of her worst

Just a Fool was not generic. if you have the opportunity, check out The Real Thing and Shotgun. she performed Shotgun live in a Country Music Award show. then she performed a song with Rascal Flatts called Riot. she is so pretty on that performance. so sad that there isnt a studio version of that song.

This álbum Lotus was rushed by her label to use The platform of The Voice and make a hit Song with hitmaker Max Martin that wrote Your Body for her BUT she recorded and released and done! She was not interested about performing her lead single só she performed other tracks instead and she Just released and bye bye see you guys next álbum hahahahahahaha BUT i love many songs of Lotus, Just a Fool is a Song praised by Kelly Clarkson...theres a vídeo somewhere but well thats It.. not my fav álbum but she recovered with Libération 😍 cant wait

The only mess I see here is right behind you, that album called Britney Jean 🤣🤣🤣🤣 (and please, I do love Britney..."In the Zone" , "Blackout", "Oops I did it again" and "Femme Fatale", all fucking perfect albums!!!! Love her and being Xtinas fan doesn't cancel some love for Britney too. I feel Lotus doesn't have much of truly Xtina on it, I prefer to think she wasn't in a good place that time...not inspired. Haha almost every Fighter thinks like you about this album. Me personally, I appreciate it because I think it has really good lyrics and it perfectly reflects what she was going through around that time: coming from a divorce, the Bionic sabotage, criticism about her over weight, being on The Voice... she didn’t pour her heart in the production of this album as she always does, so it sounds kinda cheap. But with time I’ve learned to appreciate it and enjoy it. 💖 I hope you enjoy Liberation, I think that’s a great album.
P.S usually she takes around 4 years between each album. For this one she only took 2 years and I think it reflects in a way.

I'm a ride and die hard Xtina fan and I actually re-listened to this album today (to remind myself because it's been a while since I've listened to this album) in preparation for your reaction ... AND I realised that this is my least favourite Xtina album. There were actually a few songs that I was like, "OMG, *I* don't even like this" and I was tempted to skip them (I can't believe I'm actually saying that about any Xtina song, but it's true)! So I completely agree with your reaction, and I'm a HUGE fighter. I think you'll like Liberation much more. It's a much better album, in my opinion.

@@SalRocha it really does and “ your body”at her Vegas show was her opening song that was AMAZING LIVE! For some reason it didn’t come off that way on the album she’s such a live performer that it makes u think twice about the song for sure. But I really respect your honesty sal with xtina that’s why I watch your videos and thank you so much for replying. Do u have a insta ? Follow 4 follow. 😃😉Another thing I’m not a fighter where if u say anything bad about xtina I’m shred you a lot her fans aren’t like that. LOVE this album!! 😍😍😍 Lyrically is so empowering and meaningful! Many "fake fighters" hate it and I don't really know why.. Light up the sky is one of my fav!! Hope u enjoyed it!!

I don't hate this record, but I don't love either. It has 2 of my favorite tracks of her from last decade... Your Body and Let There Be Love. Yet this record musically it's her least cohesive ... It feels all over the place. It didn't help either that she kind of give up on the record before it even was released. Keep up the good work with your reviews!

I really love this album because it's Xtina's 🤷💕 I have to admit the concept wasn't good enough worked here! But I has some very good songs!! I love army of me, empty words... Mostly all of them

I'm a hardcore Xtina's fan and for that reason I have to keep it real. The only songs that really had great production were Your Body and Let There Be Love, the rest of the album... literally it need it more than a couple of sessions of production. It feels like they were in the middle of the production but cause she was starting a new season of the voice she had to put it out no matter what.

Have to strongly disagree with what you said about Just A Fool. I think it’s an amazing amazing song. Kelly Clarkson also showed love to that song. And Christina can sing country very well. She’s even in the Nashville series. Honestly I think the album cover is not as good as you said., sorry.
