There is nothing more important, in a vulnerable moment like this than protecting our data with adequate and cutting-edge systems, which know how to evolve as hacker attacks evolve! It is essential for companies to get culture on this aspect that should not be underestimated and consider backup a fundamental tool to be used every day, also because the costs to be faced after an attack are really onerous!

Thank you so much Dave for such a clear explanation . Yours is the clearest video of them all! I find backing up so difficult and confusing and I always forget how to do it.... I just lost 4 years of photos and videos as my hard drive broke completely just recently and i forgot to save all my photos.....trying not to think about it. But now I have it ALL written down so i will print it out and follow it every time. ( The only thing I was surprised about was that you have to copy and paste all your files into the cloud folder - I though that it picked it all up automatically or by confirmation.) Anyway, thanks you're a star!x

I was devastated.

After many years in I.T. I learned the value of backups. I make regular updates every day using an Access database. One day at home I lost my C drive completely through disk failure. After installing a new drive and Windows I was able to recover all my precious files from the backup. Unbelievably, the following week my hard drive failed at work!!! Yes, backups saved me again.
In my work I once had to take a bunch of mag tapes of backed up data from UK to Holland to recover an international system. This we did just from the backups. This really brings home the need for backups.
Your precious data may be more valuable to you than your computer. You can replace a computer, but you may not be able to replace your photos and documents etc.
Big message: BACK UP YOUR PRECIOUS DATA REGULARLY.

Very thorough video, thanks. I remember when backups on 486 PCs used tape cartridges that were less reliable than the PCs they were supposed to protect. If you got a good backup at all, retrieving a file involved a time consuming sequential read of the tape until your file was found. Today's mini-hard drives and memory sticks make that process much easier, but deciding what to backup amongst the mountains of files we tend to collect now is that much harder. For that reason I like to do yearly full image backups after I'm certain my operating system is in good working order as that way I know ALL my files are backed up, including the OS files and those that happened to have been in use at the time the image was made. One of those saved my butt one day and helped me recover from a ransomware attack that also encrypted my Dropbox account. Now, whenever I upgrade to new SSDs, I use the HDDs they replaced to store my images. As for my personal data, I haven't quite figured out OneDrive yet, but when I do, I plan to use it to backup my doc and picture folders if only to keep its obnoxious notification messages from trying to get me to buy a subscription.

A great tutorial. So clear and slow enough that you able to get all the information.

Very interesting and clean explanation. Surely I will follow up and start backing up at least once a month. Thank you.

thats exactly what happened to me. My pc also turned to blue screen and got to auto repair mode and not starting. But how are you backing up and did your pc get repaired now? I have given my pc to repairers and i am at risk of my files getting lost. Too scared
