    They want the financial benefits of being a fully-released game (people paying for the game and subsequently releasing paid-for DLC), but still want to label their game early access as an excuse for the games current failings. It smacks of being desperate for money.

      just the typical strategy from game studios and greedy publishers these days. label it "early access" or "beta" but charge like it's a complete game and also sell DLC and/or more expensive editions. Maximum cashflow while investing minimal resources. This is becoming more and more common and most of these games will never see a proper release. Why would they if people spend their money and time on an unfinished product?

    • @craigf1tz
      @craigf1tz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Exactly. I didn't buy it because I wanted to give it more time in the oven, but now it's already out of date unless I pay extra for the dlc too. Whilst something is on early access extra content should be part of the base game. Otherwise you're creating a disparity between your release version and what those who joined early access have.
      Lets put it this way, they have two options: they sell LMU during early access for 25, and final release is 45 (I'm using rough figures)... That's fine, but now they're effectively saying with paid dlc is everyone in early access has to pay 20 extra to get the final release version, which isn't fair. OR, they kept the same price and final release of LMU in 2024 or 2025 is of a 2023 WEC season. Makes no sense.

    The problem with any iRacing comparison is there are no other games/sims that have the variety iRacing does. A modded AC could be considered the exception. If iRacing were only GTE/GT3 and Hyper/Prototypes it would be nowhere near as popular as it is. Probably even a middle of pack game because others have much better graphics. Take away the variety and iRacing is just another LFM style racing sim with a cool voice chat system.

    I bought this game on launching knowing that VR was not supported at that stage but I wanted to support the dev team. I only play in VR and so have not touched this since downloading it. Now apart from the defects that the game has VR has been completely ignored. This is strange as RFactor2 has VR so not sure why LMU doesn't have it yet. So now to start asking for more money when I can't even play the original is a bit rich. I have now set myself a rule that I will not put money into any game without first checking that it supports VR and the VR in question is well developed and not a tickbox exercise.

    As long as the DLC does not also include additional 'engine' features such as improved physics, graphics etc over what's in the base game, then it's all good. DLC should just be additional assets such as car 3D models, car simulation models, tracks, audio, textures etc.

    The thing that makes me angry is that people buy into early access without actually understanding what it is, which is an unfinished beta product often without a clear roadmap, and can be subject to significant change, and then end up throwing their toys out of the pram when they find out it's not what they wanted or it's not going in the direction they wanted.
    LMU was cheap enough for the full 2023 WEC season, so I don't have a problem with paid for DLC for the 2024 season, price dependent of course.

      The problem is that it is early access. Look at for instance Valheim. They have been in early access for years, the game is much much better now than when it launched. Lots of development has gone into their expansions, however no DLCs until the game will hit 1.0

    • @virtual_GaRy
      @virtual_GaRy 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Valheim was a hugely successful title in early access.. LMU is kind of successful, for a niche genre (12m copies sold Vs 60k). The financial scales between the genres are completely different too.
      It takes their content team almost a year to make 15 cars and some tracks and they need to be close to reality, with photorealism. Assets in valheim look worse than stuff from Crysis 1.
      You don't look at all the indie games that weren't hyped by every variety game influencer and then the story looks a lot more realistic also.

    Very well said. Although I am still on the fence about buying it, but can’t say I’m keen on the idea of dlc prior to v1.0 though. That also detracts resources from developing the game toward an optimized and stable v1.0. 🤔

  • @geehammer1511

    Key point is the pricing of the DLC's. It should be fairly priced in such that the base game has X content and if the DLC has less content it should be less cost to the consumer.
    £24 for 7 tracks & a bunch of cars is base game. 1 track in the DLC is going to be interesting to see how they price it. To add to that how they price it will shape the way the game goes, if they over-charge then people won't buy it. Studio 397 could shoot themselves in the foot here.

    I'm on the fence about this whole thing. On one hand the sim is great, and I'm hyped for the next update. Sounds like they are adressing a lot of stuff, and adding more to the experience. Compared to ACC's initial release in EA, LMU is already a better package for the price. But the game is not even close to leaving Early Access, and they are already adding paid DLC. Now that's a bit shady. I know they aren't financially secure at the moment, but adding in all the 2024 content in 3 or 4 paid packs, while the game still doesn't have a championship mode, and the setups are still quite wierd*? I just don't like the sound of it, and I will probably hold my wallet until they release 1.0.
    * Wheel alignment and tyre pressure values are nowhere near IRL values, but they somehow work, so I guess the physics aren't finished yet?

Other than sometimes trowing a hook out in the water, i have no other hobbies than gaming, and sim racing is a big part of this. If the content is good, i have no problem at all with spending a few bucks on a dlc, early access or not. I see this as supporting the dev's, if they go bankrupt we have no game at all. And i get months if not years of fun in exchange for the support. For less than the cost of 2-3 beers at a bar (i live in Norway). All the good driving game has in game purchases but unlike FPS games it's all cosmetics, Iracing, ACC and others all have some sort of pay to unlock maps/cars. Taking this aside, the driving in this game is awesome in a good sim rig. It's like a mix of the ACC, rFactor but with highres texture, audio and polish. Online racing when it's clean, is really hardwork, intense. Hope this game sticks around. I hope the next AC will be as good as this with a great selection of tracks. At its current state pre-DLC, the lack of tracks and reason to race online needs to be looked at. Personally, I just crank the AI to 95% and hope I can keep up.

Also for free are the 2024 liveries on the existing cars like Toyota, Ferrari and Porsche. The DLCs you will need to pay for are split into 4 over the rest of 2024 which will include in total 4 new tracks, additional hypercars and the GT3 cars (9 makes of which 2 are free to early access buyers) The DLCs can be purchased separately or all at once at a reduced price.
    ...and no I do not work for nor am I related to anyone at Motorsport Games. I DID however buy the game and would like to see it completed which will require support or $$s.

That kind of shit wouldn't fly before the Early Access era, but now it's like "Shut up and consume product and get excited for next product". Basically gamers are to blame - pre-ordering shit, paying for digital textures for their guns, paying for testing and providing valuable feedback for unfinished games - the list goes on.
    Let's be frank here - gamers are suckers. So let's not pretend that a DLC before the game is finished is unacceptable. The rubicon has been crossed, everything flies now.

      What should happened is:
      if games production is getting more expensive (that's the reason why Early Access exist), the product should have a higher price. Period. We have the same prices of games for the last 20(!) years, if not more. This is obviously unsustainable. I mean a cinema ticket is around 20 euro, and that's for 2h of entertainment, how on earth is a 100h game worth just 3x as much is beyond me (and you can still replay the game however many times you want, which can't be said of a cinema ticket at all)

A blind man on a galloping horse can see and feel LMU is a million mile step up from IRacing in every aspect, bar the numbers racing online.

For the price, well that´s yet to be seen and I am not sure how much content the first DLC will have and that sure does Influence how much they will ask for. I rather pay for good quality content then have some half backed mods that need constant updates. The real questions are, are we gonna pay for something that will survive? And, If so, will we still need to keep on paying to play It (online subscription)? There´s still a lot of things that need fixing, and some of the fanboys need to chill because It does feel like a sect when you try to defend or give you´re opinion.

    Well, I've been watching games coming out and see how many times it is bought... I'm afraid in the end there will be 2 'systems' be profitable for the software company. 1) The i-racing formula (read: paid per month and (if you want to make a big buck pay for each car/track). 2) The EA formula: bring out every year a game with some changes but let the customer pay for the whole game over and over again. When you see the cost these softwares bring, bringing out DLC for 20 euro and 3x DLC per year will not keep the balance positive , I'm afraid. Sim racing is still too much of a small player base. I wish some day it will be otherwise but that's a long way to go.

    Didn’t Le Mans Ultimate release in beta as a: buy now for x price, it’s an unfinished game, the direction the game could go from the base (beta) version isn’t certain. Overtime I believe the game is supposed to go up in price, until ultimately when the game gets released and is probably $60-70. I could be way off on this, but I honestly thought they released the game to try and generate more revenue to improve the game, sort of like crowd funding the finishing/polishing of the game. I personally am very happy with the game, there are flaws with new updates (like the drive through penalty’s on restarts with the most recent update that has now been fixed), but overall I feel like someone in control cares about the game and the direction it goes. Again, I could be way off but time will tell. I knew what I was buying when I got the game, understanding of the minor bugs and tweaks that need to/usually do get fixed fairly quickly. Online racing is super fun and I hope they continue to expand the experience of online/ranked/competitive racing. The BMW hypercar was a free download for me (I live in USA, not sure if that makes a difference). I’m not opposed to DLCs and paying for things if you are getting your value out of it. Yeah, I’m not happy about it, but if I get my $10-20 out of the DLC, I won’t be thinking about the money I spent for it.

    • @DiorRF
      @DiorRF 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      IMO, they should be releasing game content and if they add new tracks/cars/livery’s all of that should be available for free. Give that to the people for free and somehow work in micro transactions. You shouldn’t have to pay for a new car or track if you’ve already bought the game, that should just come as an update. They could easily monetize custom livery’s for online racing, maybe a small fee to upload a file, or even creating their own hub to create custom livery’s with a lot of unique features/content options and not some cringe basic stuff. All that being said, I’d be way more upset about paying for a DLC if I had to pay $10 for a game, $30 a month for a subscription and then have to pay for every car and track I want to use.
