Just finished the game, and I can’t quite figure out if Basim actually has an understanding with Loki, or if there was an element of trickery (with Loki being after all The Trickster).
Him posing as Nehal, a supposed friend, trying to shield Basim from loneliness, seems a bit like he was coercing Basim into accepting him, and then almost completely taking over. Also, the jinni, which supposedly represents Loki’s past memories of pain, also seems like it could be a trick.
Because in Valhalla, especially during the modern day era, the Basim we see seems to be 100% Loki, with no personality traits of Basim left.

14:34 Milad is also the name of a persian prince in the earliest days of the Iranian Empire. Milad was considered as a persian hero in the “Book of Kings.” It also means Son of the sun. Theres also another relation of the word Milad in norse mythology leading to Sol and Mani. Sol being the sun and Mani being the moon. The isu knife is also almost shaped as a Crescent of a moon (like Moon knight’s throwing knives). Milad’s armor in game is also a black version of the Initiate of Alamut suit, so it could be a signature of “night.”

Dang yeah, I realized this too once the script and audio was already locked - but yeah, nice find!
Interestingly enough there was a Sol and Mani Isu Temple in Dawn of Ragnarok, I guess some writer did have fun with the small connections… (or maybe this wasn’t intentional at all 😌)

Milad's story in Persian myth is similar to Baldr. It would be fitting for Baldr to be his tormentor, considering their relationship in real mythos.

I really hope Basim & Alethia continue to be a presence in the series going forward, as I really want to see what exactly they are planning. Yes, we already know that Basim wants to reunite himself with his family and bring the Brotherhood's to the Templars, and we know Alethia has made herself the embodiment of liberating Truth for the human race, but its becoming more and more implied that there are ulterior motives at play. Ever since Valhalla, where we see how manipulative both can really be: Basim being the trickster god of mischief himself, Loki, and Alethia making both Kassandra & Layla sacrifice their lives as glorified delivery girls just to get herself back into Loki's possession, combined with the vengeful nature of their children, it all really paints a picture of something potentially more concerning for the heroes down the line.
It's almost like a parallel to how Juno & Aita were using the Templars to regain full control of humanity as instruments, Loki & Alethia are now using the Assassins to directly affect humanity to another extreme (possibly through a dangerous level of freedom/chaos).

And we don't talk about some big time skip between these scene where Bassim's and Loky's personalities blended and we still hear the usual voice of young Bassim and the scene where Bassim speaks in a voice from Valhalla, between these scenes only an hour or so passed. So that's not about him being older or something. So they did it intentionally to show that that's a different person already.

    ok hear me out....
is it possible that Milad was actually Loki
The Isu sword we get in the game is named after a sword in Persian mythology that was used to kill an entity known as Fulad-zereh that was made invulnerable by its witch mother. Pretty similar to Baldr.
plus the location for the armor is provided by Nehal aka Loki after she saw it in a dream apparently. The weapons could have been confiscated from Loki when he was imprisoned.
The actual story of how Baldr died was due to mistletoe but the humans living in that region might have thought that Loki killed him using his sword. like how in AC 2 they say cleopatra was killed by Aya when in actuality it was suicide

    • @kurhanchyk

  • @carlosalvarez-be5xw

I think, like how Aletheia hacked the messages that came out in AC Origins; Loki, somehow, modified the disks. And giving Basim the idea that he was tortured, in order to give him control more easily. And whoever they are really torturing is Baldr, who although in Down of Ragnarok, they say that Loki is locked up, in the animus anomalies, we hear Loki happy that he took revenge on Odin with his son. And the jinnin would also be another of Loki's plays, to generate danger and thus also give security to Basim and have easier control. It even makes me think that the assassination ability that Basim has is Loki having control for a short period of time, his presence being so strong that the animus makes the jump to a more controlled synchronization better.

  • @volpe7436

I would simply like to point out that if you are right about the time period of loki's imprisonment it woukd make sense if this is in reference to the time in the norse myth after baldurs death and they capture loki and tie him to a rock and let a snake drip it's venom on his face
Considering that in the story loki is put in a cave on midgard and tortured with snake venom dripping on his face since the prison is in a cave under alamut and the shape of the dagger looking like a snakes fang maybe taking from the story having loki be bound by the entrails of one of his sons Narvi maybe through the lense of reality hecwas jailed bybone of his own sons (or the jailer is ment to represent the snake from thst story)
And on milad's outfit sone people have mentioned it could be loki's outfit it could also make sense in that stories events with loki builds a house in a remote area underground in midgard and he also turns into a salmon in the story to try and escape capture by thor and the other gods
The story is called the binding of loki
A retelling of a norse myth story but told through the eyes of early Arabian myth

6:20 I would love it if it was Carlos Rota's voice, it would show that Loki and Basim would have different voices, just like Eivor and Odin.
and I doubt that the jailer was Odin, Havi was in distant places (stuck in that labyrinth for days or months) after Baldr and not to mention that he wouldn't mind letting someone else torture Loki.
and it was in this game that we saw the difference between Basim and Eivor, Loki took advantage of Basim's fear of loneliness to deceive and accept him, Odin tried to take Eivor for himself and also tried to deceive her, but she didn't accept it because she wasn't alone

I loved Mirage, and the traumatic experiences held by Loki/Basim only reminds us that the mythical veneer covering the binding of Fenrir is all the more terrifying because a) Odin and Tyr struggled together to bring Fenrir to heel, b) that Fenrir was at most a child/teenager by the time that occurred, and c) Torture was commonplace in the Isu realms, and made institutional by Odin, which means that Odin having a vendetta against Loki or Fenrir became irrelevant because the Isu prison system would by default be oppressive. This lets us in to understand why Loki was so terrified of Odin imprisioning his son, and the huge extent Loki enacted to both get his son into Asgard secretly, but also to wring him from prison.
Additionally, this brings me back to the ending of Valhalla *spoilers*, where Basim spoke upon Eivor's grave in the modern day that he can now look to free his children. I would imagine that even if Basim found some sort of peace, and Aletheia seemingly being reunited with Basim... waking Jormungandr and Fenrir up somehow, with their memories (of improsonment and torture no less), would spell some sort of catastrophe for modern day Assasins and Templars both to deal with.

    • @odd-eyes6363
      @odd-eyes6363 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

Loki's binding andt that of his children were different. Loki suffered as much as he did because he was responsible for the death of Baldur, something that completely broke Odin and sent shivers even through Evior as she remembered losing her son. That is the reason why Odin personally was there to torture Loki, otherwise he would've just been locked away or left to the guards. Not only that but Fenrir was being looked after by Tyr, whom was reffered to as "always kind to them" by Basim. I don't think Fenrir was necessarily set up for torture, just incarceration.

    • @davidestabilini4468
      @davidestabilini4468 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm not sure Fenrir was a teenager at most, I think the mythological veil might have conceiled how much time passed in reality. The Builder building the tower so fast and Fenrir's sudden growth may be clues to show it all happened in many years, but Eivor saw them as really fast events since in myths the Builder had only a week to complete the barrier.

@AccessAnimus in Norse mythology, after Loki murders Baldur, as punishment, Loki now lies in a cave, bound to a rock by Odin. A snake drips venom onto his face over and over, but Loki's faithful wife catches the venom in a bowl, protecting Loki from most of the harm, and this will continue all the way until Ragnaröck begins and only then will Loki finally escape, and then one of the first things Loki will do is fight Heimdall.
What we saw in the animus anomoly cutscene from Valhalla was after Loki had escaped his prison and all his torment from Odin once Ragnaröck had begun, and then Loki murders Heimdall.
Ubisoft writings team took one of the Norse mythology stories and put in their own adaptions, I believe this is exactly what it is and that this is the reason why Loki was in the torture chamber, and why Odin tortured him so much, because it was on a very personal matter to him. Very interesting lore

I really enjoyed Mirage, but I have a few issues:
    1. The length obviously, I finished the game in just 12h.
    2. While Basim’s story is very interesting, the game still fails to answer some of the most important questions we had (what are Basim’s intentions, does any of his old personality remain or does Loki take over etc.)
    3. Most importantly, I hoped the game would advance the modern day plot, which was basically almost abandoned after AC4, and picked up again in Valhalla, but in Mirage all we get is one opening line from William Miles. There isn’t even a modern day protagonist (I think for the first time in any AC game). And what worries me most is that, with the series moving in a new direction now, Basim’s plotline will be abandoned or relegated to a comic, just like how it happened with Juno.

The one on the ground has clearly Lokis nose, but the jailer does not look like to have that of Ivor/Odin. Btw. why would the Nordic Isu build a prison in a region thats that far south east.
That could be the faction Loki belonged to, after all Loki is a trouble maker for everyone. So Milad could be Sutr and Loki was perhaps imprissioned because he caused trouble there too.
Maybe that was the reason why he ended up in the north.

Since the prison guard asked Loki for his name, as shown in the winter palace scene, he's probably not Odin himself. How could Odin not know Loki's name right?
by the way, data miner has dug out the Isu dialogue within the game files with translations provided officially:
dű duàs hnomná arhzmrmnàæ gnsàsi [State your name for the record.]
hm més hr r n marhmid [Please, no-- No more...]
srræsnos! dű hm làygw r zàrhàsi![Enough, please! Let me out of here!]
    Seylos![Silence!]
And to me personally, I like the ending of Mirage and the narrative trick about Nehal, but much to my regret I think the process of how Basim change and begin to think about himself is not very detailed and convincing. It looks like he just immediately got madly obessed with his true nature after being incited by Qabiha. Should the story be better polished and the game be more narritive-focused, at least it wouldn't get a Gamespot 6/10...

Consider Nehal not as an imaginary friend that Basim actually sees and hears, but as a dramatization of his thoughts and internal debates: a "voice of reason" generated by Loki's memories. So Basim isn't actually talking to anyone, he's just standing there thinking as Eivor does, which would explain why no one wonders who he's talking to.
In the final memory corridor, the room lights up as soon as Basim conquers the Jinni, showing that he's now aware that his voice of reason is a separate entity. In this theory, this scene dramatizes Basim's understanding of - and submission to - Loki's memories. There is no actual conversation, as is the case in Valhalla; even the Odin fight is just a dramatization. However, Roshan notices Basim look at Nehal at the end, which challenges this theory.
Also, why would Valhalla and Mirage dramatize their Sage's Isu memories so differently? Because the Animus is showing the user how the Sage is reacting to their Isu's memories. Eivor is steadfast and firmly opposes Odin's memories, while Basim finds solace in and identifies with Loki's.

    • @David-nq8cv

@@David-nq8cv Eivor's are definitely dramatizations of her internal debates as Darby clarified. Even in the Valhalla scene, when she "passes out" and goes to fight Odin, she is really just standing in that field pulling her hair out until she decides to leave the Ygrdasil.
In Mirage, notice how Nehal only appears in Basim's corridors when he realizes who she is. That is, he realizes that his voice of reason is another being. But why would he visualize Loki as Nehal who the Animus created simply as an illustrative tool for the user? He isn't actually seeing anyone. He's passed out near the prison cell having an epiphany, while the Animus coverts his new found awareness of Loki to Nehal appearing in the corridor for the first time, so that it makes sense to the user. Meaning the jinni are dramatizations too, in this theory at least.
Though Basim clearly tells Roshan that the jinni torment him in his dreams until he wakes up "panicked and soaked with sweat". Roshan is definitely a real person, so this scene isn't dramatized, so the dramatization theory isn't perfect.
I would have liked to see Animus-y glitches when Nehal appears, like with the chain assassinations, to show it's just an Animus creation like Eivor's corridors.

With proper social support and individual personality, they might've reject their Isu's memories (like Eivor) but with Basim, sadly the doubt and his passion to know the truth are far more important.

      North America
      Africa
      The middle East
      Asia
      Europe
He wasn't the "Ruler" of all nine realms like in traditional Norse mythology.. but he was one of the most feared and respected leaders of the isu world leadership. Like America, he would have tactical military bases and also prisons in different regions of the world. Also remember Loki was adapted from that region of the world. He wasn't a blue giant from Africa, but he might have been from the middle East, and found by Odin in Egypt. And was just assumed to be a half giant. Because he never matched the Norse looks of everyone else in Evors visions. Hinting to his foreign bloodline compared to the Norse. So Odin probably sent him far away where he couldn't cause more mischief.. and to the lands he was originally from.

Honestly, Loki kinda of deserved it and he feels even more of a villain now. Basim didn't feel much with the memory of having his children locked away but Eivor woke up desperate when she remembered the death of her son. People say that he's changed and he believes the Creed but I don't think that's true. His actions towards the defense of the Hidden Ones after the ending of Mirage might've been simply a means to an end since he was aware of the heir of memories and of her role reuniting him with his wife Aletheia. I hope there is a struggle with his good side in the next games given his experiences training with Roshan and being raised by Basim's father. Maybe this struggle gets represented to the players as a vision of Young Basim talking directly to him like Odin did to Eivor. I think that'd be great.

Yes, Loki’s memories are the trigger for Nehal’s existence, but I think she is more Basim’s subconscious instead of the memories themselves. I hope that Basim's motives and intentions are genuinely aligned with helping the Assassins. My wish is for him to guide and teach them on effectively using the Lost Isu technology against Abstergo, prioritizing the Assassins' cause over personal gain.
I'm genuinely invested in Basim's character and doesn't take a villainous turn, which would force the Assassins to confront him. His character development, especially as seen in Mirage and Valhalla, reflects his deep value for family and his unwavering commitment to their safety. I hoped Basim can eventually find the peace, a sense of family, and reconciliation he deserves, particularly with Shaun, Rebecca, and William, given all that he has endured.
I also wonder about the fate of Odin. While Eivor, Odin's human vessel, has passed away, I can't help but ponder whether Odin's consciousness might persist, potentially taking hold of another person and aiding the Templars in their quest to prevent Ragnarok. Just my thoughts.

Not quite how Sages work, especially in the case of the Norse Isu; Their consciousness isn't transferable between bodies because, unlike with Aita, their DNA isn't integrated into the human genome, so it's basically a one way trip.
