    I have the A53, and it's great. Sure, the top of the line flagship is a better phone, but at over twice the price, it was a no-brainer for me. The tiny bit of lag is meaningless in the larger picture. For the money I spent, I got a great phone, with an awesome display, a massive battery and years of updates.
    Maybe I'm strange, but I don't need the latest and greatest of anything to be happy. All I care about is that it works, and has the features I need. That's why I'm satisfied with my 20 year old car, instead of having to have a new one. That's why I'm perfectly content with the A53. It looks good, works great, games well, and I love it.

    I was heavily considering the S22+ to get the larger battery (still smaller than the A53) and larger display, but in the end, being 50% cheaper and having an SD card sealed the deal for me. My only concern is that the lag that always comes to an Android at some point will come much more quickly to the A53 and I will end up having to upgrade more quickly. I had the S7 for 6 years and it was so slow I could barely use it. I don't want to get back to that for a while. I'm still considering switching to the S22+ with 256GB, but that price difference is just too significant. Great video. Thanks.

      I would highly suggest upgrading to the S22+ while you have the chance. A53 in particular is a laggy device compared to its competition, especially comparing it with the s22 series. Sure, the price jump is steep but you'll thank yourself on the long run

      I've used the A52S for 6 months and now upgraded to S22+ (ultra was too big for me). While I can say the the A52S did all things right (except for the camera), the S22+ is doing everything much better but also provides the pleasure of using the device (camera included). The A52S stayed in the family (that's why I actually upgraded) but I think on the long run, the S22+ is the right choice. If you switch devices under a year or so..then stick to what you have.

    • @rokko_fable
      @rokko_fable 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      you don't have to upgrade to combat lag. one thing is people always want the latest update to the OS for some reason, but Apple was actually caught purposefully making new versions of the OS slow down older models of iphone to get people to upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised if android does the same (whether purposefully or simply due to OS bloat)
      So, keep your phone on the OS version it shipped with (do the security update if available) and then every year or so back up your files and factory reset the device. you won't deal with lag this way.

    • @shanefrank3281
      @shanefrank3281 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rokko_fable I agree 100%, but it seems Verizon forces the updates on you. I keep denying the updates but after a while they force them. I never update unless there is some issue with the current OS/app or it is forced on me.

    Appreciate this review thank you, my issue is I do not like these bigger phones . 6.2 to 6.7 inch is way overkill in my opinion I much prefer 5.8 , 6.0 . I am still using my s7 edge from new which I got on contract 6 months after release. It's still holding up well with charges and zero damage on it but the usb port has a meltdown every other day . Also really like my 3.5 jack and physical home button.

      @@pauljohnson9326 I hear ya. I did like the home button. I just looked it up - S7 Edge has a 5.5 inch display and the dimensions are 5.94 x 2.86 inches, while the S22 has a 6.1 inch screen and the dimensions are 5.75 x 2.78 inches .... so the S22 device is actually slightly smaller, although not by much. But I hear ya, you could have a smaller screen and keep the home button. My first phone without the home button was the LG V20, and I thought it would take me forever to adjust to the absence of the home button lol. But it ended up being a lot easier than I thought. Very helpful review for me. I'm still surviving (barely) with a S5 Active and am leaning towards an A53. I suspect this will be a major upgrade for me (lol). A couple other positives to note with the A53. Even though it is slightly longer than my S5 its actually slightly slimmer which is a good thing. My wife will be doing a similar upgrade and will like the narrower profile. Just to show how I'm somewhat stuck on the older features, I like that the A53 still has a micro sd card up to 1TB! Works great for someone who listens to a lot of music and not on Wi-Fi all the time. Sadly, the 3.5mm jack is also gone on the A53. I'll just have to deal with it. Moving to USB-C is fine. I don't see that as a disadvantage so I'm not totally stuck in the "old".

    Many, many thanks for this brilliant unbiased review. I was originally going to go for the S22 Plus as I have always spent theextra on flagship phones but in the end I decided to go for the A53 and I am really glad I did because I love it. I am more than happy with the performance, lovely display and I am very pleased with the camera(s) yes the main camera does boost colours but I always used to do that in post processing on my previous phone so that is not an issue. I find that even though the A53 does not have optical zoom, the digital zoom is EXCELLENT even up to 4x and the detail captured is very impressive. I have not tried the ultrawide so can't comment on that but I think the macro lens is fabulous on the A53 offering tons of detail with only the night mode letting it down; the results are poor in my opinion. Selfies however are great. Do I regret not spending the extra on the S22 Plus? Hell no. I am more that happy with the performance of the A53, It's saving me loads of money and does a sterling job!!

    I got the S22+ as I was under the impression the A53 does not have wireless charging? It's happened twice the my charging port has been faulty on 2 different phones, and wireless charging saved the day, as both times the phone had to be sent away to be fixed, with a turnaround time of about a month - the joys of living in a small town! I have an A30s as my backup phone now, and I won't lie, the S22 does give me battery anxiety - especially as we are having rolling blackouts 3 times a day in South Africa. Even though my poor backup phone is almost completely full of photos and videos that I haven't sorted yet, and is now painfully slow, the battery lasts 2 days. I must say that the port problem was only on the flagship phones, a Note 5 and a note 9. And a screen replacement for both too. The A30s hasn't given a moments trouble,;)

    So many people are complaining about the missing headphone jack and that there is no charger in the box. It‘s 2022 who does not already have fast usb-c chargers at home? I have one for my 4 year old phone and for my laptop too. How many chargers do I need? If you don’t have one just buy one. But getting an extra charger for every phone is just more waste for the planet. The a52 was delivered with a 15 watt charger. That’s just garbage. I appreciate the step to not include chargers anymore.
    And what is it with the headphone jack? I use bluetooth headphones for years now and I like it. The sound is great and you can walk around the house without taking your phone with you. I used a headphone with cable once in a while and found it really annoying. Cables always get in the way. Why do you want that? I just don‘t get it.
    I also appreciate that you get longer software support from Samsung nowadays. We really should not buy a new phone every two years. I hope that the performance of the a53 will hold up to it. But I am really confident the battery life will.

    I had my s7 for between 6-8 years, idk the exact amount but I got it around launch. I traded it for the deal on the s22 ultra becuz the screen had major burn in since I used it constantly for TH-cam and anime, and the battery burned out and barely lasted 30 mins, other than that I really didn't need an upgrade cuz it was still pretty snappy so I'm hoping this phone lasts just as long 🤞

I mean compared to my phone now no it wasn't lol but honestly after all that time it was still pretty snappy which was surprising to say the least. It was a little laggy but still really fast for being that old. I would've kept using it if the screen wasn't screwed and the battery wasn't so old it couldn't keep a charge. It was faster than alot of low and mid range phones I've tried recently. Like a12, a52, some other mid range phone i can't remember the name of.

    • @-.__
      @-.__ 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that's the exact swap i did last week, went from an s9+ to an a53. I like how it has a 60hz refresh rate so everything moves around way smoother but the resolution is only 1080p instead of the 1440p on the s9+. I cant compare the speeds cause idk how bogged down my s9+ was but the new one is really nice and has more storage and the camera is really vibrant and gets good shots, especially with the wide lens. its kinda annoying to not have a bixby key or headphone jack but depending on what earbuds you use it shouldnt affect too much, all the buttons being on one side make it easier to orient while in my pocket and the likes. the fingerprint sensor is also by the home key instead of on the back which is also nice. the battery life is also way longer ive noticed but that might be because of all the abuse on my old phone lol. overall i definitely prefer the new a53 over my old s9+ and at the price i got mine at ($300 at walmart) id recommend the switch if youre starting to grow out of your phone

    I used to buy the flagship samsung and I would not settle for anything less. But thanks to their decision to remove the jack, I bought my last samsung in the form of Note 9 512 GB.
    Last year, I decided to look to another phone and I finally settled on Poco F3. It is still more capable until now especially the side mounted finger sensor. And I only got it for $ 265.00 with 8GB/256 GB.
    Based on comparison sites, Poco F3 performs about 74% of Samsung S22 Ultra. S22 Ultra being 400% more expensive than Poco F3 is a crime and is a total ripoff.

    • @estoylaroca
      @estoylaroca ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used to think like this, up until I experienced the expected first hand.
      Bought an Asus Zenfone 3 which when compared to the samsung / apple phone at the time, was if not at the same, was better... albeit at a lower price.
      It performed well, up until I dropped it from like 1 foot and it cracked the screen clear in half.
      Then after a year it slowed down.
      After another year, it just stopped booting up completely.
      Compared to my S8 that I had since release... I dropped it from almost 5 foot and it didn't crack. It's not the fastest, but it still functions without hassle.
      Yeah you pay less up-front, but you get a shittier product in the long run.
      Just how it is.

    I find this interesting because it highlights one thing: The S22+ makes no sense to buy.
    The choice should be between the regular S22 and the S22 Ultra. In most cases the S22+ and S22 Ultra are so close in price, you might as well get the Ultra.

    • @SayAhh
