Question. My 6yo has spina bifida and cannot feel his legs. He does not understand that he can get hurt even if he doesn’t feel hurt. He already had to have a cast for 6 weeks on both legs because the way he was bearing weight caused his feet to bend and not be flat.. thankfully the casts worked and we were able to avoid surgery. Even if it does not qualify him for protective supervision would any hours be added because of that? He does require pretty much constant supervision to make sure he doesn’t do something that would cause harm or injury to his legs and feet.
Hello! You generally can’t get protective supervision in order to monitor for a medical emergency, although you could potentially put some monitoring under paramedical services. The big question would be whether his impaired memory, orientation, and/or judgment are the reason for his being at risk of injury, which are the qualifications for Protective Supervision (do we capitalize this in our article?). I hope this helps!
Help, my son is 42 years old. Diagnosed schizophrenia. Will leave cooking food forget about it. Shuts off gas line, power box . Not sure if he qualifies for specialized. I know I have to supervise him 24 hours. Please help
