Thank you so much. As a mom with 2 autistic children both w/ PS who can't afford to hire an advocate, I appreciate so much that you offer this info for free!! The SW each year seems to make re-evaluation as difficult as possible and don't know how to assess for mental impairment. They just seem like they will every year try to deny PS just to make it hard, or because they don't understand. Autism is hard because people who look at my children for a little while might say they don't look like they have autism, boys will be boys, etc. I've heard autism referred to as an invisible or hidden disability which makes it harder. This information helps me to feel more empowered to help my children.
Thanks again- you are my hero!

Every year they need another form by medical professional I take it? We homeschool, I haven't ever had IHSS for my child, permanently severe ASD. Almost 12 now. We didn't know about it then we had hang ups with the prerequisite services like Medi Cal. My husband applied online, partially, and suddenly we got a ton of paperwork. The top forms say not due for a month so we were prioritising the millions of things we have to do. THEN I saw one of the forms says it's due that next day (two days after we got it in the mail!) So I tell the SW and am told they can do me a favor by giving us a week!!! LOL We had no idea we needed proof, just that it's helpful. But our IEP is old since we homeschool, we have tried going without therapy because no therapists are good enough to do more than what I can do, and they stress out my child. We rarely see the doctors but our doctor is out on leave just a week ago so we also have to find out what doctor will see us for this!!! We finally are motivated to get IHSS and want to get it done, but seems we are destined to fail this run, and I am worried asking for a reschedule will make them quit on us. Seems unfair.

My son is 2.5, hes autistic. He doesnt have a diagnosis yet, though. He is in inland regional center right now. He is self injurious and injurious of other's. His behaviors are aggressive, extreme and unpredictable. The ihss worker who called me for the in home visit, kept telling me he may be denied based off his age, almost to discourage me from appling. I told her i am applying and i will keep applying because he needs this regardless of his age. He is 40 inch tall which is tall for a 2 year olf, hes strong and will just do things with out asking for help. Hes smart too, he knows bow to remove the putlet covers, open the stove knob covers, so i just remove them, unlock and lock doors.... oh and he eats things he shouldnt. Deodorant, lotion, cleaning paste, mop water, pool water, sand.... i have to. Carry him to and from the car because if i set him down he will run to the street. If i have a leash on him, he will just drop his full weight to the ground in a ball and i have to pick him up. He head bangs when throwing a fit, throw his body around, bites, scratches, kicks any harmful contact he will scratch ankles or faces, whichever is closer. he does so much in one day its hard to keep a record. If i am denied, should i re apply. I feel these are all valid reasons to receive ps.

I receive PS for my 12 year old. He has an IEP and goes to school 4 days a week. When his hours were assessed by the county he was attending school full time. I receive 59 hours per week for his care. Should my hours be more if his school hours are reduced? And how should I approach the county for more hours?

My daughter's behaviors/needa have gotten worse sinc eher last IPP with the regional center, so her behaviors now would not match the records from regional center on the IPP would that be reason for them to deny?

I'm a mother who moved to Colorado to be apart of the CHBCS waiver. Is there any way possible my son could still receive SSI? My son is ventilator and trach dependent for the rest of his life.
I'm not able to work because of this. I've been told all kinds of things, could you please offer advice? I'd truly appreciate it.
