Kadee couplings, how easy are they to fit.

  • This is the first of some slide shows in fitting Kadee to UK old stock. More will come over time as I figure out ways to do it, but the task is not always easy.

There is an error regarding the Lima coaches. In the video I said that a medium lower set coupling was used this should be the standard centre set #5, a lower set could be used with less spacers under the gear box.

Greetings to the U.S.A. I have found Kadee's to be a good coupling system and they do look more realistic than the standard tension lock things fitted to our UK models even though not correct. The correct system to use would be the chain link and looks great but has two main disadvantages, one they are fiddly to use and the other when pushing a train they can't go around bends as the buffers lockup.
I'll admit this has been a very expensive undertaking as well as a bit of a challenge at times
Thanks for watching and the nice comment, all the best. Rob

Thanks Robin, I've done a few wagons myself over the xmas period, I found some of the old triang wagons with the rivetted coupling pretty easy thankfully. As you say getting the kadee lined up with the buffers is very important to avoid buffer clash/lock. Thanks for sharing and all the best for 2023, Kevin

      Hi Kevin,
Yes the wagons are pretty straight forward as long as you keep an eye on buffer beam height variations. Coaches are a bit more challenging due to space from bogie and chassis frame. Continental European and US often have the bogies set further in as they have steps for ground level entry at the ends, this leaves space for a coupling box on the chassis itself a method I’ve used on a Lima bogie bolster to great effect. Locomotives are an even bigger challenge.
Thanks for watching and commenting, happy new year. All the best, cheers Rob.

    This look great

Are these same sort the bluebell model railway was showing for people who want to buy them from his shop.
    Sorry to bother you
Thank you for all the videos this year
    Keep safe ARP

      Hi Adi,
Hey your no bother at all and always welcome.
Yes I’ve just had a quick look at that channel and they are the same couplings but it seems he is producing NEM pocket converters rather than my method of using Kadee gear boxes. It’s a good idea but the NEM Kadee’s are a lot more expensive for some reason.
Thanks for watching and the great comment plus the promotion you’ve provided in the past.
Happy new year, all the best. Cheers Rob.

Very easy to fit in my opinion. Please check out mine

Ah yes swapping out couplings in NEM pockets is easy but how have you done your Caledonian pug and other stock without the pocket.

@@RobA500 I’ve sold all my stock with exception of the two 68s and the flask.
