    I've done some carpentry work on the home at 3:28 and so I am familiar with the way things used to look. First I'd like to say that these are very good folks that own this home and my heart goes out to them. Not only am I gobsmacked by the damage to the home, but also to the beach going north towards Sharky's On The Pier in Venice, FL. There was a fairly high dune where the laid over trees are and it appears that the dune was just washed away. Also, the Rip Rap Rock protective barrier did not extend beyond the north property line, so all those boulders beyond the home were apparently washed there in the storm.

    Love manasota key. If you can afford a home there, I'm guessing you can afford to rebuild.. insurance or not.

    As bad as it looks for some of the individual homeowners; it looks like the area had a fortunate
    escape from what could have been.
    How many of those structures might have tornado damage instead of hurricane wind damage?
    When you see random structures damaged in entire neighborhood developments relatively unscathed; it shows the benefit of improving building codes over the years.

      @justinharris5195 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Sure, but wind is overrated in hurricanes.
      It’s the surge and flooding that do 90% of the damage, and unfortunately I wouldn’t say this area “escaped the worst”. As even though a lot of the buildings look ok, they’re most likely tear downs as salt water reached up to the roofs.

      The way the eyewall broke apart, the convection in front of the Hurricane and the tornado outbreak made this is a very unusual weather event. The buoys only recorded 90 mph winds at landfall but they were still claiming Cat 3. Strange indeed

    ALL THESE COMMENTS about mobile/modular homes so flimsy easily damaged etc. thats NOT exactly TRUE! LOOK at the percentage of those homes that were damaged beyond car port roofs etc! most of those HOMES were not significantly damaged at all, only the car port roofs and attached sun shades etc were damaged, not the home at all. almost all damage was the car port roofs, patio roofs, sunshade roofs that were ATTACHED to the homes, not the homes themselves. the vast majority of the mobile/modular homes were no more damaged than the stix/brix homes.

    I would like you all, especially Americans, to reflect on what has been happening in Gaza, Palestine, over the past year. Imagine what their lives must be like, as they endure daily bombings-bombs supplied by your country to Israel. Can you even fathom how these people survive? Children are being killed, maimed, injured, and left disabled for life. Even today, they are struggling without basic necessities like food, water, and shelter. Do you not see that this could be seen as a manifestation of divine wrath on your country, as there seems to be little sympathy for the countless lives lost and shattered in Gaza, just because they are Muslims? Take a moment to truly contemplate.

    I have no sympathy for people who decide to build on the beach and wonder why their house is flooding or blown away.The local counties should be ashamed of themselves for allowing houses to be built there. Now everyone has to pay for their dumb decisions with higher insurance premiums. That's the hard cold truth!

    • @ianovers2739
      @ianovers2739 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      Manasota Key is an old community. The majority of the homes were built over 50 years ago as is mine. The new homes you see have replaced older homes on existing lots. When people first came to Florida they built on the beach first. The weather has now changed for my 60 year old, undamaged until now, house. Also I only could get wind insurance. I am not affecting your insurance rates. With today's weather the rates will only increase. I suggest if insurance costs are a priority over all the other obvious advantages of living here that Florida may not be the best choice for you.

      @@ianovers2739 Coastlines have forever been known as dynamic places where they are prone to shift and change. 50 years is nothing when considering what the trends of the coastline have been doing . Again anyone who builds on the coast has to accept these inherent risks but should not expect others to have to subsidize their high risk decisions or they should be paying a substantially higher premium for when the inevitable happens.
