It's a sobering reality as a viewer when you're also a weather nerd getting all giddy and happy about an epic tornado dropping out of the sky and being able to see it up close in more detail than ever thanks to technology and a brave storm chaser, right up until the moment you watch it tear someone's entire life apart in two seconds. I can't imagine how heavy that is when you're the actual storm chaser. I almost feel guilty watching these videos, but they're so mesmerizing.

There's certainly a balance to be had. I couldn't do the storm chasing and recording/livestreaming thing. I would have to shut off all emotions in order to not have an absolute breakdown watching people lose everything and to actually be productive in my job and beneficial to anyone who needs help. But, people hate seeing/hearing that. I've seen many chasers called cold and heartless for not reacting the way others think they should in that moment and especially on camera. But the reality is, nobody knows how they'll react in these situations until they're in it, and everyone will react in their own way. There are very few wrong ways, but people don't like to accept that.

Some of the adjectives used in these type vids are of terribly poor taste. But, I guess that's just me. I don't like to see people's property and livelihoods being destroyed...nor, do I like to see people get hurt and/or possibly die. Yes, these are incredible videos. But, that doesn't make them any less horrid.

I live in the Joplin area now, but grew up in Southeast Missouri and still have family there. I was watching this live and called ahead to friends in Van Buren to let them know it was coming. It's crazy when you travel that road regularly and know exactly what is being hit. Kudos for having the courage to be there and help warn those in the path. The fact that I can access you, and others, live on the MyRadar app is great. Keeping tabs there as well as some of the live streamers who are tracking them really keeps us ahead of the game.

I used to live south of Birch Tree, in the woods. Back in the 1970s a woman named Penny Klipper told me about living through a tornado there when she was a young woman, pregnant with her first child. She and her sister, who was also pregnant, sat on the bed in their cabin and the building lifted up, spun partway around and settled down again. They were not injured and both gave birth to healthy children. their chicken coop was torn apart, but many of the chickens landed safely in the trees. I lived in that area for years and saw some funnel clouds but none of them touched down. This was fascinating to see.

We had a micro burst come thru and rip off the roof of our neighbors barn. Metal flying everywhere. We don't even get Tornados here but lots of pretty strong and impressive looking dirt devils that wind up resembling these rope tornadoes. But the Microburst was intense! I was out in it trying to get my hens in and Hail was falling and I swallowed so much wind I lost my voice. My hens were running every which way Than the direction I wanted them to go because the wind was crazy and I was in panic, hollering for them to get inside. Felt like a scene from Twister. That was enough for me. I'm in central Arizona! 😳

hey Jordan, After closer review by my husband, the velocity was hovering over my house at about the 8:20 mark. I didn't have any damage at all. I was in my safe spot with the animals watching you guys and Ryan until we lost signal about the time the tornado ripped apart Baker's Auto. The funnel you are showing about 9:19 I think is what reconfigured about a 1/4 mile east of me and uprooted several trees and ripped the cover from a hoop green house. As I drove out yesterday, I didn't see any damage other than that. This would have been along county road 610 east to a north/south county road. (can't remember that number)
the one on Saturday morning destroyed a friend's house and uprooted several trees along county road 617.
Thank you for all you do. Be safe out there! Be Safe, Be Prepared, Be Blessed.

A mile wide wedge can also be a EF-0 or EF-1. A smaller tornado can have EF-5 strength. Of course the wider the EF-5 (or 4) there will be a wider area of destruction and death. EF-5s are actually rare. Rest in pease, the 168 dead in the Joplin, Mo. tornado.

Run Dorothy Run !!!! Run Forest Run !!! Crazy how people live where they know tornadoes come.Like why move to a place where your house could be torn apart.

It never ceases to amaze when some chaser passes a property that has been destroyed and not stop to check to see if there were injuries or assist in search and rescue, but rather remain in pursuit for filming purposes. Great footage, bad judgement.

They could risk getting shot as looters, or injuring themselves in the process, or cause injury unintentionally, or trespassing, or something. No good deed goes unpunished. Leave that to the professionals.

How do you know if they stopped or not? IDK. I've seen some videos where they have filmed stopping, some where stopping makes more or less sense. I don't assume that people who *could* help wouldn't unless I have hard evidence. Why not, instead of making an accusation like this just ask? "Do you ever stop to check on people? Why or why not?"
Something about the internet can make it easy to assume the worst of others. Wouldn't it be great if you were just wrong about this/>

Sometimes storm chasers are first responders. After tornado damage is done, it would not be wise to investigate as downed power lines may still be "live", wind whipped trees may have limbs ready to fall, debris falling from the sky, etc.... Storm chasers are risking their very lives being out there; transmitting information in real time. They're actually saving lives.

@@cactusmann5542lmao shot as looters seconds after a tornado hits something? Give me a fucking break lmao. Probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard! Actually your whole comment was ignorant. Trespassing on a a property that was just destroyed by a tornado? Lmao. Nice stretch to protect your favorite TH-cam tornado chaser though! It’s a douchebag move in every sense of the word. Bypassing potential lives saved for your internet clicks is what this dude did and you can’t spin that positive no matter how hard you try to

I agree. There are a lot of them who do stop, but now and then there's chasers like these and I don't understand. It would be my first reaction to check on people....🤷‍♀️
