    I prefer ceramic grease to coppaslip.
    Why didn't you grease the carrier runners for the pad lugs to slider easily?

    2:20 - when you're pushing the piston back you sprung a brake fluid leak. was that intentional? Isn't that why you should open the fluid chamber to vent it?

    • @Ahmed____
      @Ahmed____ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct. Without opening the brake fluid reservoir cap, you can put intense pressure on the system, and end up with a leak as we saw in the video.

      @@Ahmed____ Actually, it is a best practice to open the bleeder when depressing the piston back in(I am not sure why he did not show this step in the video). It allows the piston to go back both easier and squarely and prevents binding in the system. But yes you are right, it does put intense pressure on the system otherwise and can cause fluid to push past the seals around the piston damaging it.

      I expect the brake fluid cap was already off, but it was filled up close to the limit, when pushing/winding the caliper piston back in the brake fluid reservoir can overflow if it has a high fill level. You should check this and take some out with a syringe/pippette before winding back the caliper pistons.

      @@Ahmed____ that's just brake fluid overflowing. You'll need to clean that up cause it causes metal to rust

      I did on my own and followed by the video . It did happened fulied leak and i was freaking out.

    Thanks for the video. First time I replaced brakes on my 2010 Sportwagen was at 135K, so I needed a refresher for a 2013 Sportwagen recently acquired (engine braking on a TDI = you hardly ever have to change brakes).
    Also, what is the name/composer of the music? It sounds like baroque. Thanks.
    **EDIT**
    Nevermind - for the curious, it's Arcangelo Corelli: Concerto in D Major Op. 6 No. 4, but in a different key.

      I also engine brake with my golf tdi, don't know when last the brakes were done but it's a 2012 with 188k on it and it just started giving me the BRAKE WEAR light. Snow is about to hit and I'll be engine braking more. Should be good for a long while after I change the pads today.

    Great it would be nice to see camera pull back to reveal car, showing what vehicle it is. Sometimes can be typo, the amount of times I have read mk6 when they mean mk4 or 5.

    Do the pads need to be ordered based on brake type ?

  • @terrealcee
    @terrealcee ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Take this down. At 3.00 onward you are inserting the wrong pad there. There are two pads with the spring prong. Each pad with the spring prong go into the piston, on on each side. You inserted both pads with the prongs on the same side. The outer placed pad is not supposed to have the spring prong as it sits on the edge of the caliper. Smh. You have the spring prong poking out of the caliper? And you are there opening the prong to no avail to try to secure it. Smh

    • @jkdo1
      @jkdo1 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the pads there are metal spring prongs on both pads. One is slightly different to the other though they are not both the same.

    Great video Diagnostic World. I tried this on the drivers side which worked perfectly. I'm having trouble on the passenger side (with the sensor). I used the 7mm hex key to lossen the bolts, but they both just spin and wont come out. Do you or anyone else have any advice? Car is VW Golf Mk6.

    • @Ahmed____
      @Ahmed____ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Put the hex bit in the screw, and instead of pulling it straight out, pull it at an angle, which will pull the screw out with it. Or push the screw out from the other side.

      I grabbed the end with a needle nose pliers to pull out.

    • @johnmilner7603

      They spin because they have black hardened rubber crap on them and are jammed. Just take a small screwdriver and place in in the threads and push outwards so it gets by the stuck junk, then you can take needle nose pliers to pull it out. Clean the crud off the pins and lube with brake lube before assembly. Clean and lube all parts that slide.

    You don’t need a rewind tool for the front brakes it pushes back by hand or with a pry bar before you separate the calliper ( if you remove the cap from reservoir ). I’ll just ignore the burst pipe part , looks like other comments have covered that but expect the cap wasn’t off and that’s why you used a rewind tool .

    • @peterobrien269
      @peterobrien269 ปีที่แล้ว

      Certain cars you can push back the piston, but some wont budge(especially older cars) and using a C-clamp can often damage/chip/scrap the piston head(own learning experience). Reversal tool takes the work out of it, done in seconds. For rear wheel caliper pads with electronic parking brakes, the piston often screws back so a reversal tool with locking head is needed for that type of job(they are fairly cheap tool 20Eur for a set).

      Haynes Manual VW Golf 2009 to 2012 "9.4 Section 4.9 To avoid any dirt entering the ABS solenoid valves, connect a pipe to the bleed nipple and as the piston is pushed back, open the nipple and allow the displaced fluid to flow though the pipe into a suitable container" , helps avoid bursting the hydraulic pipe and/or damaging the master cylinder pump.

    I would suggest you use a hammer to free calliper rather than risk damaging your hands, also when greasing and replacing the pads, use disposable gloves to prevent pad contamination .”do not use your hands as tools”

    I suggest you edit or take this video down. you did not open the brake fluid reservoir and when you pushed the piston back you have obviously caused enough pressure to burst something and cause a leak of brake fluid. I bet your car required repair after this. very dangerous!!!!!

    • @jkdo1
      @jkdo1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your brakes are under immense pressure when you put your foot on the brake. There is no way that you can push that piston in by hand to come anywhere near the pressure it would take to blow anything. If anything does start leaking it was not any good in the first place

    • @118Wilson
      @118Wilson ปีที่แล้ว

      @jkdo1 is that why it's happend lots of times before, enought to tell people that you have to open the reservoir cap so this doesn't happen lol. It's common knowledge

    • @jkdo1
      @jkdo1 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Paul Wilson enough pressure to blow a hole in a metal pipe but not enough to do anything to the plastic cap. I know from personal experience that a good many mechanics that work on cars all day do not always take the cap off.
