Pricing rares comes from experience. You don't have to sink a thousand hours, you just have to play a diverse selection of build archetypes to say the lvl 80 mark. If you play a two-handed Slayer, a crit Inquisitor spellcaster and a Summoner Necromancer all to lvl 80 and into low yellow maps, you will have all the tools you need to price most rare items. This can easily be done first week during a league at a leisurely pace. You will learn Summoners pay a premium to get dexterity on their gear, likewise you will learn Slayers are dumb as bricks and need intelligence on their gear. If all else fails, price any rare item you find that you think is good at a high price, if nobody bites you can gradually lower the price.

So in reality all you had to say about"how to value items in poe" = play for a few years. As you never did explain how to value as your shown items for me as a new player look almost the same garbage i get in first 50 levels. TO value an item you have to have a base from where pick a price....so in reality only way to value items are with that mod that shows last sold and average of that item. Cos no new player will be wasting time in homepage adding every stat just to get some extra chaos orb increase.

If you plan on playing PoE regularly investing on stash tabs is really worth it. Namely you should prioritize getting the Currency, Map, Divination card, Essence and Fragment tabs as those makes managing your stash a very smooth experience, I also recommend getting atleast one quad tab that is 4x larger than regular tabs.

In order to check the rolls pretty sure you need to turn on "Advanced Mod Descriptions" to check tiers and rolls on an item, you may want to edit that in there...

Hey everyone! With the help of some awesome commenters, I wanted to take the time to address some concerns/mistakes made in this video:
1. To actually see the "rolls" of item mods, as shown in the video, you need to turn on "Advanced Mod Descriptions" in the UI section of the settings menu.
2. Trade Macro is a fantastic tool for many things, but price estimating rares is NOT one of them. The prices it gives tend to be extremely unreliable to the point of being practically useless.
3. If you want to know exactly what mods are meta, look up guides for meta builds!
4. The "mathil" effect can make a huge difference when pricing items. When popular streamers (such as mathil1) play a certain build, the items they use will skyrocket in price- this is basically another example of how the meta influences item prices.
5. Not all uniques are meant to be endgame. While Wurm's Molt shouldn't be part of anyone's endgame build, it can still be a viable piece to wear if you need some extra intelligence and leech while leveling. Plenty of other uniques fall into this category!
Can you elaborate on 2? Do you mean the simple ctrl+D version or the advanced ctrl+alt+D version? What I usually do for rares is use the advanced version and only tick the mods that I think are interesting/useful. Does this function not work well?

When you say "meta" (as in "meta build", "meta mods"), do you simply mean "good" or "popular"?

I still can't understand how some players sell some items for a certain (usually insane) amount but when I sell them for 50%~80% of that amount (in most cases even better items) people laugh at me to the point of ignoring me. It's so absurd.

While Trade Macro is generally good, you should have warned people that it is wildly wrong in some situations.
Great video! Forgot to include ilvl when pricing rares though! Some will trash good base items cause the mods aren't good but if you plug it into a tiny's trial whoo doggy

Stats are mostly needed only to meet gem or item wear requirements, but a good str role might give an item good max life
For minions you pretty much want + minion damage and + minion max life
Instead of using pathofexile.com/trade - Why not tell people to use Poe Trade Macro? With the inbuilt macro, ctrl + shift + d, you can click check normal mods box or similair in much faster fashion.

I’ve only been playing a little over a year but I swear I’m learning new shit every league. Pricing items has definitely been my Achilles heel. This league has been my biggest money maker so far. Crafting jewels has definitely been the easiest for me to make bank. I swear though, crafting armor and weapons I end up spending crazy currency trying to get what I want. So i craft jewels make exalt then buy the rares instead of trying to craft what I want. I can’t figure out why learning prefixes and suffixes still feel like a foreign language. No matter how much I look shit up it makes sense until I’m the one dealing with the item to craft.

The ability to see rolls with alt hovering is something you have to unlock in the ui. New players won't know that. Perhaps add a notation?

It would be 10 times better if you would explain some of the good affixes that is mostly used on meta builds for new players
There are tons of different items and every item is suited with different affixes. In my opinion there would be plate armour item with high lvl health affix. and if someone still going CI evasion/ES or pure ES robe would not benefit from tier 1 health affix and instead would be great roll for increased ES or something on that line. Like physical wands aint benefiting from spells instead benefiting from increased P. damage. (havent played physical wands builds since early release)
It would be 10 times better *today*. Hopefully this will stay relevant for at least a few leagues.
Just play the game and use poe.trade. Maybe use a build guide for some ideas, but don't force yourself to strictly follow it. The fun is in the experience of discovery, not by getting your path laid out completely by someone else.

Why would the guy sell that shaper dagger for 80c. If he hits the 50-50 annul I'd pay double for that thing on my blade vortex xD 80c value annul with 50% success rate is a chance you just have to take sometimes if you wanna get rich fast xD

the most difficult for me is pricing jewels that aren't being sold on any poe.trade or trading website registrar. 4 mod jewels with ANYYYY high life are NEVER listed because either they're being used or bought out quickly af for 1ex ++ :(
I think you should've explained that not all uniques are not meant to be end game viable/specific build viable. Wurm's Molt for example is a decent starting belt and Atziri's Disfavour is still very endgame viable as it's easy to obtain a 2m+ DPS build with it. Mind you, the crafted axe would obviously be a better pick, but that's comparing a 6Ex 6L to a 3Mirror 6L. So, i think you should extend on it better in the future.

I find it really hard to understand all the mechanics and builds in this game. Although I spend almost 700 hours in this game in the last 5 years it is really hard to follow and understand all season specials and so on. Whenever I return to this game every couple of months/years I feel like I have to spend hours on youtube to understand what is going on with the hunting, mining, harvesting, yada, yada.
In the end I always play the more or less same character, so that I do not have to spend two weeks to plan a character instead of actually playing the game. When you are working the majority of your time, this game is just not casual enough.
Back when I was studying I spent so much time on Diablo 3 although that game is shallow as fuck. I wish I would have that time now to understand PoE.

pricing items is easy. firstly dont even bother picking up rares below ilvl 80, and for the most part they're gunne be worth shit anyways unless it's a specific elder or shaper base. second the biggest thing to look for is life and res on rares thats what sells, you cant really get interesting mods unless you have a elder or shaper base. Also anything but 30% movespeed boots will probably not sell because movement speed is a very valuable stat to a lot of end game players. Also PoE ninja exists if you want to get exact market values of specific elder and shaper bases. For the most part you wont be picking up any rares except elder and shaper bases at end game if you are doing a t16 elder map strat because regular rares are 99.99% going to be garbage.
Watch streamer popular build, takes notes, overcharge the shit outta that item. I remember selling 40% Dark pact enchant on mediocre helmet 3 exalt because of Mathil play selfcast darkpact, when before nobody buys them even at 50chaos.
If you're strictly looking to see how much VALUE a certain item holds..... all you have to do is go to the market and see what people are asking for it. If you get dozens of people asking for the same price on the same item, then THAT is it's value.

It's a good guide for beginners, but can you make a video for those who have already played the game? I've played a lot, and spent a lot of time to price check, but no one wants to buy my items.

this rare is not as good as unique items is only a noob diablo 2 players mentality, even in d2 rare items are worth something to the good players, rare rings, ammys, circlets, and so on were worth a lot to a good player, so its no surprise in PoE.
I new a guy who would re-role rare circlets for hours, and he would farm with me. he once told me to him at a point in time, a rare circlet was worth more than high runes. we had a good thing goin on

I am trying to learn HOW to do my first actual sale of a rare item I found, but I can't find anything that walks a new user through the process of posting the item for sale on Path of Exile Trade that tells you how to setup everything for the first time through. The Wiki has a tutorial, but it makes some assumptions that are not in sync with what I am actually seeing on the web site while trying to make a post for the item. It tells me to click on the picture for my account and I should see my stash tabs, but there is no picture, just my name, and clicking it does nothing to show my tabs. Clicking on the "Stash" button gives me just a blank page. So, HOW does one do this the first time to set things up so they work?? A walk-thru video would be nice to have. Thanks.

I have played this game once, my sis couldn't play with me so I moved on (only reason I picked it up in the first place). However I giggled when you showed the one random guy getting wrecked in like 3 seconds. I don't know who he is but his face when he got destroyed was priceless. Thank you! That what really scares me in POE. But something i still can't understand. Like on 10:41 first "trash unique" looks better than "well rolled one" on 10:46. The only stat that better is Elemental Damage as Extra Chaos damage. Is this good for some builds? I kinda confused
Max roll stats on many unique items increase the price by a lot. Usually people look for the best rolls especially on items that aren't as popular as "main stream uniques" since the price difference between a max roll and a medium roll is usually only a couple chaos on not so popular uniques.
Prices change a lot the longer the league lasts because most experienced players have hundrets of exalts by now and can basically play any build they want and only look for good rolls on items.
poe trade macro is must-have save time pricing - it will also result in your checking the market more often, speeding your progression along the learning curve and helping you maximize value per sale. Just remember! Don't trust those first few entries!

Marking down is what I do on most items unless I know they will sell for a really good price easily. Normally have a markdown tab that I slowly lower price on items over a week until they selll. I might be lossing currency potential but Im making curtency fot flipping and crafting way faster.

I love PoE. It's a shame I'd have to learn meta gaming, builds and etc in order to actually make a respectable character.

You don't have to learn anything about meta in order to play and trade. Especially if You play in SSF mode
