The inline 5 turbo is what put Audi on the performance map. The original Group B Audi Quattros were I5-Turbos as well as the S2 and RS2 from the early 90s. The I5 Turbos in the RS3 and RSTT are a throwback to their performance/rally roots
Glad you brought it up- there's actually a fantastic documentary produced by Audi about their 5 cylinder history I watched just yesterday called "A Legacy Story in Five Cylinders" - well worth the ~20 minutes

To clarify a couple of things for you: 1- many brands do offer the additional airbags on the back, it’s not included standard because it could injure a child sitting in the rear (not in middle). Those are side curtain airbags. 2- the RS3 paddles are plastic and so are the new RS5, I’ve driven it. The R8 RWS and the non-V10 plus have even crappier paddles; they’re plastic and not even gloss black. The V10 plus has the same paddles as the RS3.

It's just extra weight and it moves the seat so slowly when someone wants to get in the back anyways. If it's free - fine, but I'd rather save a couple 100$ and adjust the seat myself. People have been doing it for decades and it just works. I feel the same towards keyless entry and start.
@@ImLeuff 7-8lbs are insignificant unless you're on the track. If it's like 20k ok fine no power seats but anything above 30k gotta have it. It's like heated seats don't need it but it's 2018 kind have to have it standards have progressed.
I like my manual seats when I'm cleaning my car, but whenever I get to sit down and spend about a minute finding the sweet spot and then receiving a heart attack after it slides and locks when I brake is what makes me dislike it.
Just picked up this car about 2 months ago and I have been waiting to see what you guys think of it, I'm glad I made a good choice! I've had nothing but smiles driving this thing
It sounds so damn good, because it's a straight 5! It's basically one of the cylinder banks of the V10 in an R8 or Huracan. That's why it sounds so similar.
Love the rapport you guys have. You know how to banter back-and-forth while covering a lot of material. Plus, you're actually DRIVING! Makes your reviews so entertaining to watch. Unlike a certain DeMuro. Bonus points for loving wagons, hating piano black trim and knowing the meaning of the word 'knurled'.
Thank you so much for doing this review... I've been asking you guys for this review for ages... I live in Mexico City and own a 3 month old RS3. I love it. It is blistering fast, handles like a dream and it has 90% of the amenities you get in luxury cars. This car is as fast as most 600hp cars out there!!!! It is a special car. Thanks again and kudos for your reviews. You're great!!!
My wife’s S3 is pretty awesome to hoon in the snow, if you can left foot brake, it is like a scalpel. I think this motor would definitely require more skill to dance around than the 2 litre. I’m in love with the throwback nod 5 cylinder, I’ve been cookoo for the sounds it makes since the old group B Audi rally cars. Audi does such a great job at differentiating the A vs S vs RS models with styling cues. The RS looks properly turned out! I know the S3 runs a Haldex unit like the Golf R, does the RS have actual Quattro or Marketing Quattro(Haldex)?
You only get true Quattro with TQ vectoring on longitudinal motors. All MQB R or S are Haldex5 so far. As mentioned Haldex5 throws the TQ to the rear more aggressively than prior versions.
What? Audi barely differentiates at all in the styling department, only way you can tell the models apart is by counting the number and size of exhausts 😂
Doses Of Cars guessing you are American. There is a bunch of them here in Europe, however we don’t get a single Chevrolet ford or mustang besides entry level model which are already insanely expensive looking over here. I do prefer German cars tho, but never really tried old school mustangs either haha
Ton Pac you are going to love old school. Here in America, there are classic car shows with many old corvettes, mustangs, camaros, Dodge challengers and etc. But it is beyond rare seeing an RS3 here
Doses Of Cars I see them in a lot of shows, they look huge and loud hahaha but I love them, I like the mustang and Chevy from 67, amaaazing cars. I go to Argentina often and they have a lot of them wandering the streets, almost all like ruins but sometimes you can see one in a perfect state and they are beautiful tho.
I had the A3 Limousine (Sedan) with full S-Line pack although with a much more modest 2.0 TDI Diesel engine. Loved the shape, the seats and the interior quality and design.
I'm picking up this car in August 2019 All black... There is none here to look at or even get a feel for it. I never even sat in it yet, but this video helped me feel like I already own it.
@@timbardam5878 I did a muffle delete and replaced the mid pipe with ones that don’t have secondary catalytic converters. It sounds even better than before. No drone.
Canadian Rider when yuri and jakub get their new R8 to review, you should meet up with them in your 2008 and do a mini comparison to see how much has changed.
I got myself an RS3 and it's absolutely amazing, the quattro system with the 5 cylinder just works perfectly every time I set off at the traffic light or try to take over someone just pull like a train
I owned this car for 4 months. Loved all of it. But I sold it!! Why?! I loved the test drive, but at 6 ft 3 inches I didn’t fit. I loved the car so much but didn’t fit. It’s too small for $66,000 (US). And my 6 ft sons hated riding in it. Now driving m3 (Manual, of course). Very happy. Great review. I did have the lava orange color that Audi does so well. Every cop saw me! 😀
Guys, one thing I disagree with you on is the dash. I have an A3 and my favorite part is the minimal dashboard. Too many cars have way too much going on on the dashboard- too many buttons and screens and they look cluttered. I love that I can hide the screen. At night this is especially great. There are just no distractions on the dashboard while driving in these cars. The dashboard was a big selling point for me when I got mine. It's brilliant, and I wish more car companies took this minimal approach.
Rs3 saloon surely is the competitor for the C63 ?? As always mega review. No one on TH-cam goes into detail like you guys !! Love it ! Keep it up !! Yuri - wear the merch mate !!
Edward Moore price wise (at least in the US) they are not competitors. The RS3 MSRP is a good $10k less than the C63. Also they RS3 is a car class one size smaller than the C63
Just found your vids and subscribed almost immediately...You guys bring a great twist to car reviews, and really enjoy your style. The variety of cars along with your comments keep things fun. Keep up the great work
I daily a 2018 TTRS in this exact color. I bought it over the RS3 primarily because it IS a hatchback and I really didn't need a backseat that could fit actual humans. The RS3 and TTRS with this 5 cylinder sound like nothing else on the road and always turn heads. Great review, guys!
Haha thanks! You’re reviews are the best! Also you’re the only ones to incorporate good engine noise into the reviews, no one else ever can, and it’s good you bring it in throughout! Got nardo grey, sport exhaust, staggered upgraded wheels, red calipers, and black optics pack!
Alex Brownshe great spec & color choice. That's the ultimate stealth saloon right there. I used to say that the Audi S3 & RS3 are for guys who've grown out of the Evo/Impreza phase of their lives but want a luxurious sedan that still kicks ass when you pin the throttle.
Iceberg 47 exactly! I’ve done the Jetta TDI, GTI, Q3, and I needed a rush bad. The dealer could only find all those options with carbon fibre so it has that too! Bang on ya
This is the best hot hatch even though it's not a hatch. STI is not however the interior is not so great. GTI is a wonderful car. I just sold my 07 GTI which had 300,000 km on it. Keep up the great work men.
I never understood the auto seat, and why people are so balls to the walls to get auto seats.. how many people drive your damn car that you need to adjust your seat. In my STI I have maybe moved the seat once in the 4 years I have owned it. In my 18 Volvo s90 I have never moved the seat (yes its auto seat, but I had no choice).. point being the seat will stay there after you adjust it....
Audi RS3 feels more like a luxury hot hatch. Yes, it is powerful but also has luxuries like those seats that push the price up. I guess the hot hatch from the vw family is the golf r. Compact, practical and 0-60 in 4.6s.
@@layne4376 Have you been in both? The RS3 has a slopping roofline and restricts about 3 inches of head room. The Golf R has more head room and leg room due to its hatchback design.
A Gti is a hot hatch. Golf R, focus RS, Subaru Sti I’d call hyper hatches. My golf R 0-60 is 4seconds consistently, 3.8 on a good day. Downpipe, tune, clutch and tires. Golf R has more rear room than the S3/RS3, more front headroom also. No sunroof.
Is it the king of hot hatches even though it's not available as a hatch in North America?

I own this car and been driving Audi's for over 20 years simply one of the Greatest engines Audi has ever made and as of right now only 2 cars have it
dude...audi 5zyl cars are legendary
OMG FINALLY! I've legit searched for a straightpipes RS3 video and I assumed you guys would never do one. My prayers have been answered
I love this one without the hatch"back" and it's nimble af
The Audi A3 sedan has the best proportions of any car. Agree with you
Thank you so much for doing this review...
You guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite car review channels!
Updated haldex that sends up to 90% of torque to the rear wheels. But it's not all the time, only for launches and slipping of the front wheels.
It’s still a haldex fwd based awd
You only get true Quattro with TQ vectoring on longitudinal motors. All MQB R or S are Haldex5 so far. As mentioned Haldex5 throws the TQ to the rear more aggressively than prior versions.
What? Audi barely differentiates at all in the styling department, only way you can tell the models apart is by counting the number and size of exhausts 😂
Oscar Brady when there’s one in the driveway all the time, the differences between them are easier to pick up on.
This is my dad's car and I've only driven it once but it's so easy to drive and he loves it so much
I haven’t seen a single RS3 in my life. But I have seen so many BMW M cars. Meaning that the RS3 is so unique and rare.
Awesome review as always!
Please review an M2, would love to see a comparison.
Unfortunately I would imagine BMW would not have any M2 Competitions to give out as review test cars. Testing an OG M2 at this point is irrelevant
We'll get an M2 comp at some point
Come down to OC, California! I'll lend you my M2C! :) TheStraightPipes
Absolute legends
I'm picking up this car in August 2019 All black... There is none here to look at or even get a feel for it. I never even sat in it yet, but this video helped me feel like I already own it.
I just bought one today. 👍
Still happy with it ?
@@timbardam5878 very much so
@@roadrash76 Nice to hear! Looking for one right now, was checking reviews to be sure, but it's a beautiful car man 👌🏼
@@timbardam5878 I did a muffle delete and replaced the mid pipe with ones that don’t have secondary catalytic converters. It sounds even better than before. No drone.
one thing about the vents, if you pull the center nob up, the air will be diffused at a wider angle, instead of blowing directly at your face.
I love your videos guys, well deserved success for both of you! Plus that RS3 is sexy AF
Canadian Rider when yuri and jakub get their new R8 to review, you should meet up with them in your 2008 and do a mini comparison to see how much has changed.
Samuel Behrens Definitely a cool idea lets see with I can get with these chaps :) Who wants to see Straight Pipes do a first gen R8 review !?
I got myself an RS3 and it's absolutely amazing, the quattro system with the 5 cylinder just works perfectly
every time I set off at the traffic light or try to take over someone just pull like a train
“Save up for a RS7...Does that exist?” 😂💀
Just found your channel from the android auto and apple carplay comparison vids.. and now I'm bench watching all ur vids.. This channel is awesome!!
What’s your favourite car
@@TheStraightPipes I kinda like the fpace, ever since I saw it in the Grand Tour!! (can't afford it tho..)
"Lets start with the Launch."
I love every launch they did ! hahahha so sick
you just said that some old volvos have a 5 cylinders and that they sound "so cool". I now officially love you
- a proud Volvo 850 2.5 20V owner
Best new Audi. Daddy Doug was right.
Holy shit. i've been whaiting for this like for ever .😍😍
You guys are the best ❤️❤️
Guys, one thing I disagree with you on is the dash. I have an A3 and my favorite part is the minimal dashboard. Too many cars have way too much going on on the dashboard- too many buttons and screens and they look cluttered. I love that I can hide the screen. At night this is especially great. There are just no distractions on the dashboard while driving in these cars. The dashboard was a big selling point for me when I got mine. It's brilliant, and I wish more car companies took this minimal approach.
Just wanted to say this review helped me pull the trigger on my rs3 last year. :-D
Also they RS3 is a car class one size smaller than the C63
you basically reviewed every car I like, what is this xD
Patrick 'The Reaper' Star That’s love
I got mine in the same color (minus the black package, i preferred the silver exterior trim) and I freaking love it more than anything.
Definitely the best in its class so far
Just found your vids and subscribed almost immediately...You guys bring a great twist to car reviews, and really enjoy your style. The variety of cars along with your comments keep things fun. Keep up the great work
Thanks
*12:46* I wish manufacturers would update the car pictures on higher models. My M2 Comp has the same issue
K9 JSB I mean it doesn’t bother me
Doses Of Cars When I spend 65K I expect attention to detail
I daily a 2018 TTRS in this exact color. I bought it over the RS3 primarily because it IS a hatchback and I really didn't need a backseat that could fit actual humans. The RS3 and TTRS with this 5 cylinder sound like nothing else on the road and always turn heads. Great review, guys!
I love the face Jakub makes every time he is about to say "soo fasst!" haha
This is one of my favorite cars of all time! Im happy you reviewed it!
Great review! Just ordered one! Picking it up on Monday! :D can’t wait even more now!
Congrats, you're a smart person
You’re a lucky man to own this beast
As I German, I prefer manual seat adjustment over automatic adjustment. Seems to be an American thing
As an American I love my manual seat adjustment in my 2014. Automatic is too slow
I’m in love with the RS3’s 5-Cyl. I wish more car makers made them I love the way they sound😍
Audi RS3 feels more like a luxury hot hatch. Yes, it is powerful but also has luxuries like those seats that push the price up.
I guess the hot hatch from the vw family is the golf r. Compact, practical and 0-60 in 4.6s.
True. I also have an R. But for half the price (used Golf R), an adult can fit in the back, and better fuel economy, you get 75% of the performance.
Golf R tune, done!
No sunroof.
I was super close to buying an RS3. In the end couldn't justify it. Got the G70 and love it.
