I cut a lot of leather. You can imagine the crud left behind even cutting it smooth side down. Your contact paper solution is a game changer and yes, I tried some on a piece of leather and it comes off of it fine. 😃
17:36 Instead of using your machine, you can use the protective film to cover most of the mat's sticky area, leaving just a small portion exposed at the top.
I load my 12 x 24 at both ends at the same time. One vinyl on one end, a second vinyl ready to go on the other. I have limited space, and this seems to help me.
I've cleaned mats several times with a baby wipe. It a great way not as messy as washing it. I use ALCOHOL FREE BABY WIPES. THANKS FOR SHARING THESE TIPS!! I have used the cardboard tube from vinyl, works great. My cover protector sheet for mats, I cut a small shape out and place it on the top side. Left corner of my sheet. It makes it easier to find after you take it off and it goes on the same way all the time. Keep dust off of mat.
Another idea for your mat cover sheet is to cut out a flower or design from some bright colored left over vinyl and apply it to one side. You could even use a color to match your space. I have not lost a single cover since doing this. It also looks cute when hung for storage.
When I lose a mylar cover I make a mat sandwich. I place the mylar I have onto its mat then place the orphaned mat on top of it. The mylar is stuck between the 2 mats asks both stay clean! Love your felt hack and I'm going to try it tomorrow. Thank you.
These were great tips! I’m a quilter and use freezer paper a lot as templates. Instead of contact paper on felt, I will try ironing on some freezer paper. It sticks to felt and comes off clean and reusable.
Love the painters tape and felt hacks. I saw where some one put decorative vinyl on their clear mat covers then harder to lose and decorative when hanging.
Just ordered my Cricut today. I have always had a Silhouette. While I love their designer software, I have had thee machines and have hated all of them. So I am trying to learn all I can about my Cricut before it arrives. I love these hacks. They are very useful. I loved the hack of cutting a 12 x 24" mat. I love cleaning mats with baby wipes. I love the idea of using Nicapa mats. I used to move my mat around for my Silhouette so that one was not new, but it does work in prolonging the life of the mat. Love the idea of taping two mats together for a 12 x 24" mat. Because if I rarely use it, it will be great to be able to hack it for usage. I love the hack of the plastic shower curtain. Great info. Thank you for sharing!
The pinkish one he was holding, I got a bunch of this brand at a sale in my town, the stickiness is very inconsistent. The "light" one was so sticky,it took two hands to pull of the plastic cover, strong wasnt very strong and they tend to warp/bend very easily and one I used gave me errors with the cricut. The standard was fantastic and i still use it often
OMG I can’t believe how awesome these hacks are. I don’t know how to pick my favorite because they are all great. But, I do think finally seeing a way to clean the mat with a baby wipe and using control paper in fabric cuts is going to save me so much time! Thanks again for all of these hacks!
Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to use your to for moving the position of the cut so I don't wear it the same spot on the mat all the time, that never occurred to me!!!
Hi I thought the same thing. I would think placing it down (the back side up)side by side, taping back over lapping to the top. This way when you run it through the machine it runs smoother.
Thanks for the great hacks! I was able to purchase 30 green standard mats recently from Cricut. They were having an awesome sale and I am an Cricut Access member so I received an additional 10%off the sale price. The bottom line is I got 30 mats for $58.23, including tax! That is $1.91/mat!! Best deal ever!! 🎉
You sir, are a genius, I tip my 🎩 to you! I was thinking that the contact paper on the felt would also keep the cut pieces easier to handle, keep track of, and work with until you're ready to do the final placement. I love the roller under the mat, and the paint stick, so awesome! I've been using off-brand mats since I got my Cricut a few years ago, and I've never had an issue. I love the shower curtain idea, because the material is sturdier and doesn't slide off of everywhere you set it. I Always keep several $ Store shower curtains on hand, they come in handy for SO many things! Once you start, you'll find tons of different uses. Thanks so much! I would love to see more videos like this 😊
I really liked all the hacks. I'm in a shoulder sling so it will be a while before I get to craft. I cannot wait to get back. It is only been two weeks since rotator cuff surgery, but I am getting stir crazy not being able to do anything.
I love the baby wipe hack! I actually used it while watching your video. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. I thought the baby wipe would leave bits behind. Definitely will be using this hack on a regular basis!
Question! After you cut the mat, could you hole punch it to be able to hang up on the wall and it still work in cricut?? 👀 I def want to try this if so!
Am new to cricut and I think I found the easy to follow ,no frills down to earth. Am wondering unrelated to this segment..You used a heat press mat..non cricut and what did you call it..harder surface ..?.
Great information! Do you by chance have a recommendation for baby wipes like your own preference? I know some can be a bit more “linty” than others. I keep those in my car for our hands and some leave a lint type residue.
Hey Tanner just adding to your first back about cutting the 12x24 mat. It won't work for the Cricut Maker 3. Error message pops up saying it's not long enough. It must be Cut 13" .
Wish I'd seen this earlier today while trying to put HTV on mat. I used the mat cover under most of HTV so I could position the top, then pulled out slowly as I adhered the rest. It worked fairly well.
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I tried cutting one of my 12 x 24 mats same as you did but my Maker 3 wouldn’t work with either half even though I didn’t load cut end first. My maker sensed it wasn’t the long enough so there definitely needs to be a margin the past the 12 inches. I wasn’t working with large material size either. I’m guessing this wasn’t an issue for you - can you suggest a remedy?
Tanner the last hack you did with the glitter htv was pretty cool I recently found that if after I get the top lined up I lay a ruler on top and gently pull down it helps to keep it straight and also rolls the air bumps out at the same time. Hope it works for you the way it has for me, I'm only starting out and your tips and hacks have helped me. Thank you!
Great hacks! I can definitely see myself cutting the Dollar Tree clear shower curtain to use as a protective sheet for mats. Some of mine are getting nasty, so this will save me $$ by not needing to buy a new mat as often. Thanks, Tanner.
Thank you Tanner ❤️ totally loved the hacks..theres one thing i would love to share ..i have lost a cover to one of my mats so i turned it upside down on to another one. It dosent stick as well but helps until I get something ...
New sub. Wow! Those are some really genius hacks! They all blew my mind & left me thinking of ‘ why didn’t I think of that’? Lol. Thank you so much for sharing with us!
Hey, Hi, Hello! 👋🏾I'm new to the channel and to Cricut. I don't have my machine yet, but I'm getting one as a combined birthday/Christmas gift & I'm trying to learn as much as I can before it arrives. These are great tips & I look forward to learning more from you.
When u are taping the 2 mats together do u tape the end of mat to the other end of mat, then tape or do u over lap the mats could not really see by the picture, thank u for allthe tips.
I cut a lot of leather. You can imagine the crud left behind even cutting it smooth side down. Your contact paper solution is a game changer and yes, I tried some on a piece of leather and it comes off of it fine. 😃

I've used my Cricut for years and never seen the felt/contact paper hack or the empty roll under the mat before! GREAT! Thank you
I actually loved the last hack for applying glitter vinyl the best, but honestly I loved all these hacks!

I really enjoy your tips and tricks shorter videos-I don’t often have more than an hour to watch the other videos.
Happy to hear that!
Have been using the NICAPA mats successfully and frugally for over four years.
Another idea for your mat cover sheet is to cut out a flower or design from some bright colored left over vinyl and apply it to one side. You could even use a color to match your space. I have not lost a single cover since doing this. It also looks cute when hung for storage.

Have fun!
I do that too.
Love the tip for keeping your mat straight while cutting with the old empty roll!!
So glad you love it!
All of the hacks were awesome, but especially the one with the felt…fabulous! Thank you! 🎉
That pink mat was so satisfying to see cleaned! I remember the first thing I cut with my rotary blade and pink mat was felt and it left such a mess!
Hi Tanner! I would love to see some more videos on off-brand matts please!
These were great tips! I’m a quilter and use freezer paper a lot as templates. Instead of contact paper on felt, I will try ironing on some freezer paper. It sticks to felt and comes off clean and reusable.
Wonderful!
This was AWESOME!!! I wouldn’t say I am a novice or an expert but this was just what I needed 😊THANK YOU☺️!!!!
You're welcome!
Love the painters tape and felt hacks. I saw where some one put decorative vinyl on their clear mat covers then harder to lose and decorative when hanging.

Would appreciate an updated video on off brand mats. Thanks for the tips

I’m interested in the full in depth review of the mats and vinyl
Thanks for sharing these hacks. They are all going to come in handy.
I love using the 12 x 24 mat.
Omg!! Love love love the 12/24 Cricut mat hack. Thank you so much. 😮
You're welcome!
Used the contact paper on the mat hack for Maker University, to cut leather with no mat damage. Great hack for felt, too, as Tanner showed.
So glad!
I actually purchased a cricut mat extender on Amazon for really cheap. Works perfectly and love it!
Good to know!
LOVE the contact paper/felt hack! What a great idea ❣️
So glad you love it!
Love the contact paper hack and the paint stick, although I'm able to open the drawer on the desk where my cricut sits, and that supports my 24" mat.
Thanks for the tips! I'm definitely going to use your to for moving the position of the cut so I don't wear it the same spot on the mat all the time, that never occurred to me!!!
You're so welcome!
If you overlap the mats, doesn't that mess up the cutting blade since it is thicker where they overlap?
Hi I thought the same thing. I would think placing it down (the back side up)side by side, taping back over lapping to the top. This way when you run it through the machine it runs smoother.
Lots of great ideas! The 5 gallon paint stick I wish I had known ages ago!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the command hook idea for my mats...they were all over my craft room and stuck under my maker. You are awesome. Thank you again!
You are so welcome!
I love those cricut hacks especially the hack with the painters stick and cricut empty vinyl roll!
So glad you love them!
I love the contact paper/felt hack and cleaning with baby wipes. Going to the store today to get some wipes!
So glad you love them!
Wow, I loved the last one especially! Thanks Tanner!
You're so welcome!
Thank you for these Tanner! These were AWESOME hacks!!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
I love that hack with the contact paper on the back of felt or material!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊

Awesome tips! I store my mats on an S hook on the side of a steel shelf in my crafting barn.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
Thanks for the tips, I am new to owning one, and am glad to get some tips, before I really go too crazy with getting stuff.
You're always welcome!

All of these hacks are great! Thanks so much for your instruction and all your ideas are really helpful.
Glad you like them!
I really liked all the hacks. I'm in a shoulder sling so it will be a while before I get to craft. I cannot wait to get back. It is only been two weeks since rotator cuff surgery, but I am getting stir crazy not being able to do anything.
Press and seal works with felt as well.
I’ve used extra sticky transfer tape on my mats when cutting leather. It’s a game changer! I’ll try the contact paper method too! Thanks for the tips!
I love the baby wipe hack! I actually used it while watching your video. I was pleasantly surprised how well it worked. I thought the baby wipe would leave bits behind. Definitely will be using this hack on a regular basis!
Thanks for sharing!!
So to connect to mats (to make a 12x24) did you overlap them a couple of inches? ...or butt them up to each other?
Yes Tanner and the team!!!!!...Thank you!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
I like the last one to line the vynal on the mat
Thank you so much Tanner as always love to get new affordable hacks. awesome
You're so welcome!
Thank you for sharing these awesome hacks.
Great information! Do you by chance have a recommendation for baby wipes like your own preference? I know some can be a bit more “linty” than others.
I keep those in my car for our hands and some leave a lint type residue.
Loved the use of vinyl roll and will try this. And using the offbrand mat I have seen on Amazon but have been reluctant to buy will try it out.
Go for it!
Definitely going to try taping two mats together.
Hope you enjoy!
Thank you for me all these hacks are very helpful thank you again . Much love
You are so welcome!
Great hacks. I had never seen the paint stick hack. I love that. Please do another mat brand comparison. Thanks Tanner
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
Some new great hacks I haven’t heard of yet, thanks!
You're welcome!
Thanks Tanner , I occasionally needs 12/24 mat and just not have gotten one. So I usually make my design smaller to fit. Great information. 😊
You're welcome!
Hey Tanner just adding to your first back about cutting the 12x24 mat. It won't work for the Cricut Maker 3. Error message pops up saying it's not long enough. It must be Cut 13" .
Love the dollar tree shower curtain hack
Thank you!
Tanner can you use the 24” mat in the Cricut maker
Love how you made one large mat sticking two together! Would never have thought of that 😆😁😁
Thanks for watching!
Are you overlapping the 2 12" mats when you make a 24" one??
Wish I'd seen this earlier today while trying to put HTV on mat. I used the mat cover under most of HTV so I could position the top, then pulled out slowly as I adhered the rest. It worked fairly well.
I like them all but especially the last because it is hard to get anything on those mats when you are new and don't know what you are doing!!😂
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately, I tried cutting one of my 12 x 24 mats same as you did but my Maker 3 wouldn’t work with either half even though I didn’t load cut end first. Loved the video!! Loved all of your hacks but the last one was great. Thank you Tanner
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
Lots of help again. The felt contact is my favorite but the roller under the mat was great too.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
My fav is the cardboard roll
Good choice!🙂
Thank you for sharing your thoughts
Anytime!
Loved idea of contact paper with felt.So logical but I probably would not have tried without your suggestion, thanks!
You are so welcome!
Super hacks! I will definitely be using these. Thank you!!
Tanner can you use the 24” mat in the maker with out cutting it ?
Yes
Thank you for this video! It was all very helpful. My favorite was…all of them! 😆
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely fantastic tips. Thanks so much. Definitely going to try the roller technique xx
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
Great hacks Tanner! I have 2 dirty mats and baby wipes so now I can clean them! Thanks so much!
You're so welcome!
Hi. I have a Joy, can I cut these down to that size?
Putting 2 12” mats together is my favorite!
Tanner the last hack you did with the glitter htv was pretty cool I recently found that if after I get the top lined up I lay a ruler on top and gently pull down it helps to keep it straight and also rolls the air bumps out at the same time. Is there a particular contact paper you recommend?
That contact paper felt is awesome!
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
When u are taping the 2 mats together do u tape the end of mat to the other end of mat, then tape or do u over lap the mats could not really see by the picture, thank u for allthe tips.
It looks like the mats are overlapped on the not sticky part then taped.
I write the date on the back of a new mat so I can see how long it lasts
Love these hacks. Thank you for sharing.
You're welcome!
So many great Cricut mat hacks! I’ll definitely be using several of them from now on. Thanks for sharing!!
You're welcome!
