I think the smart joy has made my life very easy, especially when you new at this and you not quite sure with your measurements,it's been a week but ooh my goodness I am so happy.
I started with a Joy, Smart vinyl and paper, and by default often tiny letters. Turns out, it was great because I learned a lot, made a lot, and now any machine is a breeze. I took what I learned watching your videos and applied it to my work and voila...success!
I just got my first Cricut yesterday and used it for the first time today and I don’t know how I went without it this whole time. It’s amazing and I am the type of person who isn’t good with electronics and can’t even set up my iPhone but I worked the Cricut perfect on the first time. I’m amazed.
Hahaha 😂 In the most sweet, understanding tone, "Guys, some of you have so much ambition, right out of the gate.." I've definitely butchered a handful of sheets due to ambition. 😂 Love your videos! Your demeanor makes me seek out Cricut info on your channel before looking elsewhere. Keep up the hard work!
When you get your Cricut Maker3, your test cut is using SmartVinyl. I rather like it, to be honest. I got my Cricut on Tuesday and started immediately scrambling for supplies. On the opposite end of the thickness, I have also already made.a sign with dollar tree vinyl just to challenge myself (worked beautifully, but you have to take it slow and careful. Crafting isn't NASCAR, people), and I've done some CUTE totes and bags with infusible ink markers. I think I'm going to try the glitter tonight, just because I love a challenge. This is just too much fun!
Appreciate the honest advice. I just got a Maker 3 a week ago and wanted to use the font feature to make a word which was very small….well it was a failure. I haven’t even learn the features of machine or Design Space to be that aggressive. So this was an eye opener and it made sense. Thank you.
Hubby bought me a maker 3 for my birthday. I waiver between enthusiasm and rage learning to use it. I wish I would have seen this video before I took the maker out of the box. I have spent so much money buying all the things and wasted so much time and vinyl. Glitter vinyl is the worst!
I just got a Cricut today. Decided to try to learn more about it before I even download the app. Thanks for your video!!!! I plan on watching more on your channel to get a head start and try to avoid some frustration. l
I'm super new with the joy, I love the smart vinyl. It's so easy for me to weed, etc. Sometimes it's difficult to get off the backing but nothing burnishing didn't fix. I love joy and can't wait to craft more and more.
Yes! Small letters suck, and also ,the script fonts are hard to do . I've gotten a little overambitious. That's what I did with the print then cut. Also, cheat! I had a hard time weeding even printable htv with thin script letters. So use an off-set the same color as your shirt. It still looks pretty good. Will definitely try the siser easy weed vinyl though.
Although I’ve been a Cricut user since the Expression and Baby Bug days… I had 100’s of cartridges, 2 jukeboxes, the gypsy - everything. I had not had a newer machine since the 1st Air and I LOVED it! My husband got me a Maker 2 weeks ago, so I need to get to know it. 😊
I just bought a Cricut Maker and decided to look at some TH-cam videos to learn a bit more. I subscribed to your channel because you are super cute and easy to watch because the way you explain things is clear yet entertaining so I don't get lost or bored. Looking forward to learning more from you! 🤩
Tanner you think if everything and I appreciate you only true friends care enough to help like you do. Great information! Cutting letters too small starting out is the best!
I joined on New Year's Eve and it's absolutely money well spent. I'm learning so much. This video was good too! Tiny letters! The box should come with a warning about those tiny letters! I am so glad I'm not the only one that struggles with those and I'll just put them on the back burner for now.
Thank you! I love the honest feedback. I will be sure to take my excitement level from a 10 to a 2 and get to know my Cricut better before deep diving into projects.
Using anything glitter tends to dull your blade really quickly and caused me a huge amount of frustration in the beginning until I found this handy tip...ball up a piece of tin foil and poke whatever blade your using into it several times. This not only removes any residue you may have on your blade but it sharpens it as well. Save the tinfoil ball in a nearby drawer or something and reuse it whenever you need it. Hope this helps ❤️
My very first project with vinyl was glitter vinyl and tiny letters to put names on ornaments. 🤣 I did pretty decently actually but was pretty surprised when I couldn't see the cut lines lol.
I wish I would've known this about the Cricut Bright Pad before I bought it.I hardly ever use it, and you have to keep it plugged in to use it which is annoying.
I just love how honest you are!! I’m a beginner and here on your channel to learn everything I can. I’m about to wake this Cricut air explorer 2 if I don’t learn how to use it. I know I can find all that on your channel. Thanks
I've wanted one of these machines for 20 years and never thought I'd get one. 2 weeks after the release of the Maker 3 my new bf (well, we'd been together a number of years but long distance) had just moved in with me when i found out he'd been saving for a few years to buy me one and so he did. I jumped in to learning... I tend to over research everything because i have stupid bad luck but what's funny is how I wanted to cry upon learning that there's this whole community of ppl who have had one of these machines and never use them out of fear of breaking them or whatever. I've used mine ever day. I've done glitter paper.. not vinyl but I don't mess much with vinyl. Just not my thing. I haven't had the trouble everyone talks about. I have lots of glitter stuff I've been hesitant to use tho. I have all but one blade and used most of them and love them. Hell, I've even rummaged thru Gpas scrap pile to see what i can fit thru it. Mind you, I've replaced lots of mats and blades but have yet to have trouble with any of this stuff. My lighting sucks something fierce but i ran off with the bfs battery lights for fixing his car and he built me a light board. I don't use it much. I want to. I would buy that light. I don't know why i put it off. I've had great luck with the smart materials too. Maybe a 2nd run thru the machine before pulling it because i hate weeding and haven't busted out the transfer tape yet either. But i love jumping in and just doing it. I've used it near every day. I haven't killed it. I've been super careful and if ever I'm not real sure i look it up first (generally every tutorial and cricut official info site i can to the tune of 2 days and or i call them and then do whatever wild thing I'm thinking... Just so I don't void the warranty. But they're so much fun! Don't be afraid of them! Just be careful with them. Don't jump blind either.
I agree with the light pad. My craft workshop is in my basement so it’s dim. I bought a light pad off brand for $30 on Amazon. It really doesn’t help with weeding. With the vinyl I use it doesn’t shine through the weed cut lines anyway. I’d say skip it.
I’m not a seasoned by any stretch of the imagination here but seeing as I got my cricut last March I don’t know that I am entirely a beginner either. Tried the small objects …. Don’t do it!! Bought a stock of the tools. Don’t do it. Tanner is so right here!!!! This should be one of the first videos for a newbie to watch. I wished I had seen it. It only would save you a few hundred dollars. So great advice here. Listen to Tanner!!!!!
When these first came out...my dad told me...Do not get one until after the 4 or 5th upgrade. What does he mean reliable ? Of you can cut vinyl, you can cut fabric lol I just bought the maker...never touched one before and it's like I've owned it for years. Went right to fabric and used rotary blade right ways. It's all super easy...expensive...but easy.
I just started using my cricut maker, I bought that dollar tree vinyl to use as practice ..well..it didn’t turn Out well..the backing of the vinyl stuck all over my standard and light grip mat...took awhile to scrape it off..will stick to premium vinyl..
I've had my Maker since 2019 and still consider myself a newbie. I've used many of the adaptive tools and did tons of research before using them. I didn't remember everything that was said in the blogs and videos that I read and watched. I've done iron-on without a press, Easy or otherwise, cut wood, vinyl and paper. I believe as an artist/crafter, you will have fails (I've managed to melt copper and that's hard...I make jewelry), but that's part of creating. With my Cricut, however, I find Design Space, and the fact that all materials are not created equal (even within the same brand), the biggest obstacle to success, even when I'm doing something I've done before. I've read where people keep meticulous notes with everything that they make. I'm beginning to believe that they have the right idea.🦋
This was a really helpful video, I was just wondering about the smart product. I am glad that I don't need those right away. I was also wondering about the different cutting tools and I am glad also that I don't need them either starting out. I just bought my cricut maker 3 and I just want to start out with the print and cut on it for now. If I could give me any advice on that it would be appreciated. Thank you so much for this video, you just saved me a lot of headaches , time and money.
Where do you purchase your supplies I’m taking your advice starting out small not small cuts lol but I want to be able to purchase reasonable priced supplies thanks for your video I’ll keep watching
If I have the Explore 3 that is 13", how would I be able to use regular vinyl that is 12"? I am new to Cricut, but all videos I've seen don't seem to mention that that is possible.
I only just bought a cricut a couple of months ago, hoping to make stickers and t shirts and possibly sell them. LOL, I didn't understand anything and I still don't! The only material I've ever printed with is smart material because I don't have a cutting mat, and I agree it is SO hard! And honestly, the lack of cutting mat means that I can't print material that's not 13 inches wide(Cricut explore 3). The most helpful tip was definitely smart material, I'm going to try and veer away from it! Thank you for making this video, it was reallly helpful and I no longer feel as lost as I did before!
I would like to find out something. I've been ending up with small pieces of vinyl around 4"x5", 5"x7" and other smaller pieces in that vicinity where size is concerned. What I would like to know is how can I utilize these small pieces with the Cricut Maker 3, and not have to discard them? Whenever I make a small vinyl design and attach it to the mat, and feed it into the Cricut machine, it comes back out telling me that the piece of vinyl is too small for the job. this of course is not the case as the design is small than piece of vinyl being used. Is the situation here that I always have to use a full 12"x12" piece of vinyl?
Yes! I just got the Cricut for Christmas and have been lost. I wish I would have watched this before I tried my first project with the thick glitter vinyl. That did not work. Thank you for the good advice.
I have to redo my seasonings because I used the Smart Vinyl and I don’t like the way it looks. I didn’t know there was a difference until I got frustrated and started watching videos. I don’t have a Bright Pad but I do have something like it for $10 I got on Amazon. Trying to weed through the Glitter Vinyl was real hard to see. I love the Glitter Vinyl. I use the Hobby Lobby One. It doesn’t shed.
Ive had my Maker for coming up on a year now, and I couldn't agree more with this whole video. I'm just now diving into my knife blade, and I still want to pull my hair out most times lol. And to follow up with the brightpad, I use the "Go" version, and really have a hard time liking it, especially for the price. The battery doesn't last long at all, it's not scratch resistant and I still can't see through glitter vinyl. I only ever use it for layering permanent vinyl, because I can match the bottom layer up better.
Hi from Texas. I go a Cricut Maker and a Cricut Heat Press Combo but I haven’t opened the boxes yet. I bought the Green Cricut Matt, Cricut Transfer Tape but still need other accessories before I get started. I have a Question? I bought Vynal from the Dollar Tree to practice so I’m not wasting material using the more expensive Vynal. Do u recommend returning the or use them for practice? I wait for your reply. Thank you. Love your Channel, you guys are Amazing.
Please help me I have watched so many videos and I do a lot of crafting but have been using stencil’s for my pictures and other stuff I don’t have a circuit but have been trying to figure out which one is best for me to buy. I think I’ve decided on the maker not the new one but wondering should I buy the everything bundle or is it not worth the extra money for a beginner. I tried using my daughter law’s machine and got so aggravated at the weeding cause I made small letters and just quit. Thank you for All your awesome viedos
Well, we m starting out with the deep blade. I flip furniture and only want it for veneer designs. I’m won’t do vinyl or anything. And my business stickers
Hi, I got a Cricut joy for Christmas, can I cut felt to make flowers with the joy and do I need a special blade?I'm a real newbie to cutting machine and I'm learning alot from your channel, so thank you.
I absolutely love your delivery and how you mention we will get to the harder stuff but start simple! Great advice!!! Can we paint that back wall a darker color though? All the white is a tiny bit blinding. Lol Thank you for your great advice ❤️
Hi there!! New subscriber here! So happy I found your video! I got my machine 2 months ago and honestly have not been able to use it properly! I’ve been having a lot of issues with the machine not feeding correctly and it ruined my sticky mats. These different points you mentioned are amazing! Thank you!
Hay my name is Carolyn and i live in Australia and I have a brother scan & cut but I watch your show even through I have a brother you have great tips and tricks
I have a question! I have been trying to cut a logo out on HTV but it is not cutting through my color it is just cutting the clear stick part. What am I doing wrong?
I LOVE the "dont get the 'smart' stuff" i got a chuckle out of that. I do fear that with the maker 3 i wont be able to use anything but smart products or cricket brand so this helped ease thay worry.
I'm a beginner. I have had my cricut expression for several years with little to no use. Can the old school Cricut Expression be used to label cups and kitchen bins like the youtubers are using with the new cricuts?
I have a wedding in less than 6 months and want to do my invitations myself. I have been trying to do keyrings to add to the invites. Listening to your advice, I'm trying two no, no's lol I still want to try the keyrings but I'll switch to the normal vinyl, I have been using smart vinyl up to now. Thanks 👍 could I request you share how to bring up an invitation project and customise the wording....I'm really struggling with this. Pritty please 🙏😙
If they don't already make this, I may have thought of an AMAZING idea for Cricut to come out with! They should have sheets of double sided tape! So it's a roll like the vinyl and transfer foil, except all it is is double-sided tape. Then you could pour glitter on the shape the cricut cut out of the tape, then you have glitter without having to use glitter vinyl! Oooh, they could have sealant vinyl too where it's just clear vinyl that seals all of those little glitters in! Not too sure how well the glitter will stick, but if the glue is tacky enough, it should stick decently well.
It'll be nice if you have one but that is really up to you. Smart Materials can be fed directly into the Cricut machine without using a mat. This allows cuts to be as long as you want, as long as you have enough Smart Material to cut it.
I'm guilty of the tiny letters 😂 that's why I put the vinyl down and stick to just making paper crafts now like banners and flowers ect. Vinyl makes me want to pull my hair out 😂
Yesterday while using my Cricut the right roller bumper started to move to the left. This slowed the mat board and made my project slightly off center. Moving it back to its proper location was difficult but it will not stay where needs to be. Any suggestions?
Thank you so much for your advice, they are very useful. For me, as a complete beginner, they are encouraging. Hobbies or even work in this area should be fun and not stressful. Of course, as you become more experienced, even initially stressful things will become easier. Thank you and good job to everybody ☺️
I agree with the Smart Materials. I had a project that I wanted to do last October involving the orange smart vinyl. I dropped making it, and I'm stuck wit the color, plus, I wait for a sale. I have both the Maker and the Maker 3 because I have a business. I have been cutting with the Cricut since the baby cricut came out. (Original Cricut) I also agree with the Bright Pad. I still have my original one, and I forget to use it for weeding. It got some use when my nephew was living with me. He used it to trace, but that was it. When Cricut changed it up with the new bright pad. I did not feel the need to buy the new one.
Im sure the beginners starting out, the majority that I hear is 'I don't want to waste materials because they are expensive'. so they find the smallest thing and want to cut that out and then get frustrated when its the hardest thing to weed. especially if you haven't found the right vinyl that works for you.
@@mscrystald1 after having my cricut for a few years, cricut in anyway shape or form is one of the vinyls I don’t like the most and I can get 5 yards of oracal for the same cost if not less for 1/3 of roll of cricut. It’s just not worth it in my opinion
I think the smart joy has made my life very easy, especially when you new at this and you not quite sure with your measurements,it's been a week but ooh my goodness I am so happy.

Wow! That's great to know!
I would like to know more about printing on my printer and cutting it out on the cricut.
I love glitter vinyl. Dollar tree glitter vinyl was the first stuff I started with and no problems with it. I know use it on all the time.
I just got my first Cricut yesterday and used it for the first time today and I don’t know how I went without it this whole time. It’s amazing and I am the type of person who isn’t good with electronics and can’t even set up my iPhone but I worked the Cricut perfect on the first time. I’m amazed.

You can also get a light pad that isn't "branded" for a lot cheaper than a bright pad

Do you have recommendations for uk vyinl thank you
Oh my goodness you just saved me money because I thought I had to but all these blades
This was such good advice, but I struggle with Design space.
Help my vinyl keeps lifting after I apply it? What’s a good helpful tool with this?
I love this video!!! Brand new to Cricut and this is awesome. Its gonna save me time, money and a headache lol... following now
Awesome! Thank you!
Hi, I got a Cricut joy for Christmas, can I cut felt to make flowers with the joy and do I need a special blade?I'm a real newbie to cutting machine and I'm learning alot from your channel, so thank you.
I don’t think you can cut felt with the joy. The joy only has one blade.
Can you talk about the print and cut thing. How do I do it and then use the cricut?
I absolutely love your delivery and how you mention we will get to the harder stuff but start simple! Great advice!!! Can we paint that back wall a darker color though? All the white is a tiny bit blinding. Lol
Thank you for your great advice ❤️
Someone gave me a circuit expressions 2, one of their very first machines. Will I be able to make anything in the circuit library if I join?
Hi there!! New subscriber here! So happy I found your video! I got my machine 2 months ago and honestly have not been able to use it properly! I’ve been having a lot of issues with the machine not feeding correctly and it ruined my sticky mats. These different points you mentioned are amazing! Thank you!
Welcome!!
Favorite...my favorite is to slow down. Saving until I get back to work
Thank you so much for this information. I am just ordering my maker 3.
What machine do you need to use the markers and art space?
Wish I’d seen this before my first cricut purchase, ended up selling it. Now upgraded to the maker3 and hoping to create some lovely things x
You can do it!
Could I cut out my own designs from my PC?
I'm a beginner. I have had my cricut expression for several years with little to no use. Can the old school Cricut Expression be used to label cups and kitchen bins like the youtubers are using with the new cricuts?
What vinyl do you recommend for a cricut joy? #beginner #nervous #confused
I agree with you on the bright pad--I feel like I wasted my money on that!
Yes!
Hello. My name is wendy. I’m having trouble putting the purple mat into the matching and ti starts going on the left ant I have to stop the machine.
Had my cricut a few weeks. As I’m watching this, struggling with teeny letters. 🤦🏼♀️ I’ve learned my lesson!
I have a wedding in less than 6 months and want to do my invitations myself.
I have been trying to do keyrings to add to the invites. Listening to your advice, I'm trying two no, no's lol
I still want to try the keyrings but I'll switch to the normal vinyl, I have been using smart vinyl up to now. Thanks 👍 could I request you share how to bring up an invitation project and customise the wording....I'm really struggling with this. Pritty please 🙏😙
Hey Carol!!! Ive been making key rings. I think I got it!🤗 Can share some pics of what Ive done if you'd like.
@@mscrystald1 yes please x
Thanks!!! I was having the worst time with the glitter vinyl
You're welcome!
I really like the smart material and I can’t find vinyl somewhere else that I like
If they don't already make this, I may have thought of an AMAZING idea for Cricut to come out with!
Not too sure how well the glitter will stick, but if the glue is tacky enough, it should stick decently well.
ok I bought a joy because everyone said it was so simple .no need for a mat. So can I use regular permanent vinyl in my joy of just smart vinyl?
@@janicew5320 thank you so much for answering my question
Well well… my first project is with the smart glitter iron-on vinyl and it was a success!
I want to buy a Cricut machine. Should I NOT get the Maker 3 because mats are not needed and only smart materials are needed?
It'll be nice if you have one but that is really up to you. Smart Materials can be fed directly into the Cricut machine without using a mat. This allows cuts to be as long as you want, as long as you have enough Smart Material to cut it.
I'm guilty of the tiny letters 😂 that's why I put the vinyl down and stick to just making paper crafts now like banners and flowers ect. Vinyl makes me want to pull my hair out 😂
Thank you for your honesty
My pleasure!
Yesterday while using my Cricut the right roller bumper started to move to the left. This slowed the mat board and made my project slightly off center. Moving it back to its proper location was difficult but it will not stay where needs to be. Any suggestions?

Really considering purchasing a cricut to earn some extra money. This is my first time at your live stream.
Welcome!
Thank you so much for your advice, they are very useful. For me, as a complete beginner, they are encouraging. Hobbies or even work in this area should be fun and not stressful. Of course, as you become more experienced, even initially stressful things will become easier. Thank you and good job to everybody ☺️
You are so welcome!
(Original Cricut)
I also agree with the Bright Pad. I still have my original one, and I forget to use it for weeding. It got some use when my nephew was living with me. He used it to trace, but that was it. When Cricut changed it up with the new bright pad. I did not feel the need to buy the new one.
Do you prefer the maker or maker 3?
Im sure the beginners starting out, the majority that I hear is 'I don't want to waste materials because they are expensive'. so they find the smallest thing and want to cut that out and then get frustrated when its the hardest thing to weed. especially if you haven't found the right vinyl that works for you.
I found Smart vinyl at great prices on Amazon. I don't feel so bad about trying and failing. 😉
@@mscrystald1 after having my cricut for a few years, cricut in anyway shape or form is one of the vinyls I don’t like the most and I can get 5 yards of oracal for the same cost if not less for 1/3 of roll of cricut. It’s just not worth it in my opinion
Ive never used it. I will look for it. Still learning so much.
