Delicious FOOD in MUNICH! Exploring Bavaria’s Capital One Bite at a Time

Bavarian food is well known for being the iconic food of Germany. We tried some incredible food around the Bavarian capital, Munich, and were pleased with familiar tastes and new flavors to explore.
Our first stop was Cafe Frischhut for Schmalznudel, a light fried pastry that, with a cup of coffee, was a delightful way to start our day.
You cannot go to Munich without trying some fresh sausages, and so we could not miss out on incredible, fresh Weisswurst. We stopped at Schneider Brӓuhaus for some Weisswurst, a breakfast sausage that is meant to be eaten before lunch. We enjoyed it with a cold beer, warm pretzel, and sweet mustard. What a treat!
Next up we stopped by Dallmayr Delikatessen, a high-end deli which has catered to wealthy citizens and royalty throughout the years. We tried some treats and bought some to take home too.
We were now ready for dinner, and we got something traditional and hardy. We both got some pork knuckle and knödel, cooked to perfection. After that meal we couldn’t eat another bite!
Another great food location in Munich is Viktualienmarkt, a farmer’s market in the heart of Munich. We weren’t able to eat much because it was mostly closed in winter during our visit, but we were able to see the iconic Maypole prominent in the market. We surely need to go back during the warmer months to enjoy a beer in the beer garden there!
The last food we tried during our visit to Munich was Kaiserschmarrn, a delicious chopped up pancake in a tasty sauce. We enjoyed this sweet treat with some more coffee to start our day before leaving Munich.
While we know there’s much more to eat around Munich, we sure did have a wonderful time trying as much as we could eat. We surely were full after an incredible trip to Munich.

I'm Austrian and can therefore say that the original Kaiserschmarrn is eaten with plum pottage.
