I enjoyed the jägerschnitzel in Munich. It’s usually veal (could be pork or chicken) cutlet with mushroom gravy. It’s very filling with the accompanying vegetables and brötchen. I loved their bread. I lived 60km from Munich in Augsburg for 2.5 years when in the military.

You recorded this episode in front of my Favourite wine tavern: The "Residenz Pfälzer Weinstube" One of the very few restaurants, where they don´t have beer! Enjoy the traditional German food there!

Next time, visit Café Frischhut close to Viktualienmarkt for an Auszogne or Striezel with sugar coating.

Most of the time you order your drinks first. They are usually brought without much delay, then you can order your food. Gives you more time to study the menu.

To clear up a possible misunderstanding: No, we don't have snow now! Today was beautiful sunshine at 23°C (= 73°F) - best Wiesn (= Oktoberfest) weather!
I prefer hot Apfelkücherl with vanilla ice cream 😋

Note: Hendl s chicken, Ente s duck. (those words are not used interchangeably)

I waited...and waited...and you kept the best for last at 7:50! One cannot visit Munich and skip out on the Schneider Weisse Brauhaus im Tal. I first found that on the Munich Brewery Tour in 2009, I believe it was the first stop! I will go there at least two or three times in a week. SOOOOO good! If it wasn't apparent, I HIGHLY recommend a stop! Thanks, Mark and Jocelyn for this...

I would also recommend the chain "Hans im Glück", which was founded in Munich. Its cheap, but healthy burger. As you know, Hamburger is originally from Germany

There's another typical Bavarian dish you didn't mention: sour veal lung. These are stripes of lung cooked in a thick dark vinegar sauce and served with a bread dumpling.

    7:00:
Walter is wrong about the layers of the Prince Regent cake but for an interesting reason.
Yes, the Prince Regent used to have 8 layers - but nowadays it has only 7.
And who is responsibe for this change in recipe?
You guessed it: The Americans! (General Eisenhower to be precise).
    Background story:
This cake was created in 1886 in honour of the much beloved Bavarian Prince Regent Luitpold. The 8 layers symbolized the 8 Bavarian districts.
After WWII, Germany was occupied by the allies. Bavaria was in the American occupation zone. But in July 1945, the Americans gave one Bavarian district "Pfalz" ("Palatinate") to the French zone.
And so when Bavaria was recreated in late 1945 (still under American occupation) it didn't have this district and never got it back.
Bavarian bakers responded by changing the cake recipe.
So when you American tourists ever get to eat this fantastic cake and feel you would have liked just a little bit more - you only have your own General Eisenhower to blame. ... 🙂

    My favorite was Augustiner.

Augustiner is THE Munich beer! It is the oldest and most traditional brewery here (believe me, I am born and living in Munich).

With Augustiner you will never fail. It's is really high quality beer. Perhaps there are more high quality beer sorts in Bayern like Tegernsee, Schöfferhoffer, Weichenstephan, Starnberger or Andechser, but Augustiner is the most widely available in all outlets.

I just love the way the typical German sense of service is considered a 'down' point! In Europe the customer is King and we don't need the service staff to constantly hang around our tables and waiting for us to leave so they can earn another tip from the next customer! Americans, if you want the servers to come around every couple of minutes, STAY AT HOME! We like to go out and enjoy our meals WITHOUT constant interruption, and restaurant staff don't need the tips to augment a meagre wage - we tip them for giving us a good service which includes leaving us alone!

As to German customer service, I don't know how many times we were treated rudely and got wrong orders with no attempt to make it right. Servers are paid a living wage so they don't give a crap

Not sure how I feel about a Helles being called a “Light beer”. Yes, its color is light and I see the distinction between Helles and Dunkles. But given that “Helles” is so not similar to a US Light “Beer” (and yes, quotation marks for “beer” are totally intentional), I’m not sure it was the best choice…
Anyway, other than that an enjoyable video, as many of yours are.

@@karenhackney9920 It's complicated. The Alsace region is officially French, but the culture is a blend of French and German and older people might have grown up speaking Alsatian, thus understanding German well. Freiburg is not far and French influence in local cuisine is very present. But Flammkuchen is definitely not a typical Munich dish.

Wolter, do a little bit off research. A lot of wild guesses on your part on the food. And most of it dead wrong. On the upside, it is funny when you look at it a satire.
