How did I create my new craft room for only $40?

  • By repurposing lots of things I had (like vintage tins and Redmon baskets) and thrifting a few new items, I was able to do a complete overhaul of my crafting space for only $40! Join me for a tour as I show off the vintage items I've used for storage and talk about some of the other aspects that make this craft space unique, functional, and thrifty!

    I am so glad to see that you have used/repurposed pieces of furniture and that your craft room is not all IKEA!!! I have many many Longaberger baskets in all shapes and sizes, you have inspired me to use them in my craft space! Keep creating!

      Thank you :) ...and so glad to hear that you are going to incorporate your basket collection into your craft room! There are so many benefits to using the things we love and having them play a role in beautifying the places we spend time. Best wishes to you and greetings right back at you from Indiana!

      I wish I'd discovered the vintage storage hack sooner! My former space had a lot of matching storage bins that looked neat but had a lot less character. Vintage is the way to go! Its more durable, more beautiful and far more sustainable :) Thanks for the comment.

    What a great video! Love your craft room! You are so well organized and have so much room! Love all the antiques, gives the area so much warmth. Very welcoming. I’m jealous 😂🤣😂

    • @unearthedrelics
      @unearthedrelics  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you. The organization is definitely a process (and not necessarily something that came to me naturally) ;) I used to spend half the time I allotted to doing crafts on a given day trying to track down all the things I needed to do a project...so I've slowly evolved organizational strategies that work...like using non-see through storage for the messier things and the alphabetized ephemera folders that have been a mainstay of my crafting space for a couple years now. Its fun when I can find uses for antique objects that I find when I go thrifting. Happy hunting for your own vintage treasures and best wishes to you in all your creative endeavors! :)

    Your craft room looks like so much fun! I would love to spend time crafting there. I held on to my mom's vintage sheet music for nearly 40 years. I finally used "pretty portions" of it to decoupage my piano bench. So glad i did.

    • @unearthedrelics
      @unearthedrelics  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I love the idea of using sheet music to decorate a piano bench! What a great way to enjoy it and keep all the associated memories of your mom without having stacks of music taking up space. :) I use sheet music often in collages and junk journals, but I've gone a little bit overboard in my collecting - thus the need to keep crafting! Thank you for commenting - and happy crafting!!

    Everything is so lovely! You’re so talented in gathering things from Restore - I go into a place like that and can’t put things together like this; wow! I like your theory on have some things out of reach so you have to get up! And I love the table in the middle it’s so inviting to come craft!

    • @unearthedrelics
      @unearthedrelics  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for sharing that you find it to be an inviting space - that was definitely the intention. If I'd taken video while shopping at Restore you might not have been so impressed ;) I was there for about 2 hours hemming and hawing over what to get before finally deciding...and then half of the stuff I got wouldn't fit in my car so I had to spend another hour attaching it to to the roof and tying down the back hatch so things wouldn't fly off/out on the way home. I kept doubting that I'd picked the right things up until it clicked that I might not have to paint everything. In any case it turned out well even if it was a bit of a bumpy road to get there. I hope that you have a crafting space that brings you joy!

    I have bought so many things at H for H Restore store. I bought almost all of the furniture that I use to display items for my little vintage reselling booth there at very reasonable prices. You can save a LOT of money on used furniture and other home or even small biz needs there….esp if you buy something that’s the discount color tag!

      Good tips all around. Another thing I like about buying secondhand is that you can usually get items that are far better quality (and more unique) than what you'd get buying new items at a big box store. I've been playing around with the idea of doing vintage trunk sales or maybe going in for a booth at an antique mall (but both of our local stores have fairly long wait-lists). Where is your booth located?

    What a great craft room! We will be moving later this year to a smaller place, and I have a few vintage tins in my kitchen that I didn't know what I would do with and because of you I can use them in my craft room! I never would have thought of that, thank you!

      Thanks for your note and so glad to hear that you found some inspiration in this video! Tins are great for small spaces because they are often stackable (thus saving space) and you get the extra bang of something beautiful to look at in addition to something functional for storage + you've repurposed something that might otherwise be discarded. Win, win, win! Good luck with your upcoming move!

    • @unearthedrelics
      @unearthedrelics  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question - its actually just an open space that's outside the bedroom where I'd been crafting before. So I guess its another perk to have made a new "room" out a space that wasn't really a room before...and I suspect it will get a lot more use following its transformation :)

    I did some crafting videos on YT some years back….(I’ve removed most of them.) I stopped bc I had little to no viewership bc I didn’t do things the way YT suggested so the algorithm ignored me and the whole process, esp technically, was overwhelming. I personally liked the music you selected and didn’t think it was too loud. I do know that “background music” is almost always suggested by YT and whatever film editing programs you use. I think if it’s used, it’s most effective when there’s no talking. And if used while talking, it does offer a kind of pleasant filler that can add nicely to the audio, but needs to be barely audible. But this channel is yours and you have to do it as you see fit, while also balancing helpful feedback from your viewers. YT is a learning experience with a pretty steep curve. I think the comments I’ve seen about the background music are intended to be helpful and not critical, but sometimes people can go too far..glad to see that didn’t happen here. 👍

    • @unearthedrelics
      @unearthedrelics  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Nancy. :) I've found the comments to be very helpful. It was a good reminder that things can sound different on different platforms and/or devices and for different listeners. I used to only use music in my intro and outro clips (and occasionally if I did a short picture montage)...but then I started feeling like the parts where I was talking were just too blah. In any case, I think it probably is a good general rule of thumb to not have the music and talking competing with one another - or to work a little harder to get the mix right. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your insights. Thank you!

    The background music competed with the speaking in this video. Sadly, the music won. When you are showing rooms, or teaching things, etc, music is at best not necessary, at worst, counter productive..

      Thanks for that feedback. I've heard similar things from others and found that the mix sounded a lot different on TH-cam than it did when I was editing the video. @@unearthedrelics Whenever I see a new channel or a small one, I always try to help them. Sometimes it is taken wrongly. ha! I'm grateful you took it as I meant it. And since you are so very small (I am subbie number 363) I will tell you what else I notice on youtube. I don't like music while talking, it competes and distracts, especially in older people, but some people really do, so you have to decide. Some people add music to a part of their video that they aren't speaking (while they're cooking or crafting,,,) but they put it Much louder than the speaking parts. I sleep with youtube on so different channels that I like can get views on their channel, but I can't do it on channels that have a large difference in volume. And I'm not the only one that sleeps with youtube on, so JS... Anyway, I like looking at craft rooms, or any rooms, and except for the volume of the music, I do like your channel.
