For containers, bins or acrylic, etc, I look for those with straight vertical sides. If the sides flare out at the top, they might not fit next to each other on a shelf. Ask me how I know.
Yes flared sides take up way too much extra space and so many of the acrylic bins have flared tops. One more reason why I love the grey fabric bins from Lowes, they are completely straight.
@@CraftyConceptswithErin Walmart carries some that are clear and about 6” wide. I use them in my fridge and pantry right now (craft room packed up for a bit) and so many things fit perfectly! Chips bags, rice packets, hot chocolate packets….. They are in the closet/laundry section at my Walmart
I had all kinds of diecuts laying around so yesterday I was looking after my grandson and his little friend so I pulled them all out and some old stickers. Put them all out on the middle of my table and gave them paper. They made some very creative pics with all the diecuts and stickers. They are 8 by the way.
My biggest issue is what to do with projects I've completed. Store them, give them away, sell them, donate them? Many times they are so pretty I dont want to let go of them.
I can imagine it would be tough to part with your projects, they are a labor of love. I get that way about some of the cards I make. I put them on display to enjoy them and eventually send them off for someone to enjoy. Have you tried Etsy for selling your crafts?
I had that problem when I started making better, nicer, prettier cards. Then I got a smartphone and started taking photos of them. I tell myself that this way I can always re-create them (even though I rarely do 😊). And I find it much easier now to let the actual card go. - Give it a try … Kind regards from Germany, Nicola
Organizing doesn't create space.... but it does make a space more efficient so I think you should regularly reevaluate what is close at hand. My tips: - Function before aesthetics. I'll take an ugly container that fits my things over a pretty one that takes up extra space any day. - Store things together that you use together, even if it means having some things like scissors and tape in more than one spot. - Separate seasonal items and swap them out. There's no sense in them taking up prime real estate all year. - Plan an area close to where you work to keep cleaning supplies at hand. A lot of people forget this. - Keep a swatchbook, or multiple swatchbooks. Then you can quickly pick a product and a color without having to pull things out. - Keep any excess die cuts with the die, so you can see them the next time you go to use that die and can save yourself from dragging everything out to cut another one. For me this is more efficient than keeping the extra cuts in an album. - Don't over-organize. Sometimes the packaging a thing came in is already an efficient way to store it - like bead hanks and anything in a ziptop bag.
When my Cricut mats are just about done, I try to wash them to bring back a little sticky. I cut them into 4 pcs, same with the plastic clear cover and I add my left-over paper embellishments onto these, cover with the clear sheet and place in a bin. I can then flip through them for items.,
Hello! This is my first video of yours. Thank you for taking the time to show some of your struggles of crafty organization. You asked the question, what is my biggest storage dilemma? Wow, for me it was the organization of all the items it took to papercraft. I'm a lifelong crafter, since childhood. When my son was born (he is grown and has a family now), I began scrapbooking his childhood photos As he grew up, I moved into creating mini albums, then I began creating junk journals and cards. The amount of supplies and tools it took to do those hobbies was overwhelming. I didn't ever have the space, money to buy cubbies, or money for organization things like bins, boxes, etc. I became so stressed about it that I developed a creativity "block" (like writer's block) and stopped. That was about 2019. I suddenly became divorced and moved to another state in 2020 and my craft things have been boxed in storage since then. I sometimes want to craft again but I don't have the time to sort through the dusty boxes to get it all fresh and cleaned for use. So, I would like to say that videos like yours really inspire me, helping me to inch toward crafting again. I'm taking baby steps in my head to move towards one day when I will again enjoy paper crafting. Thank you for listening, and God bless you in your crafting journeys. -Coco
Hi there (from England) just a word of warning with the binder storage, I have found in the past that if you leave them stuck in too long they rip. The reason I know this is because I used mine for photographs. When trying to remove one after a long period it stuck to the back and ripped the photograph. Thankyou for the video, most informative.
Thank you for the warning, it is certainly a possibility. The older sticky photo sheets caused the same issue with older photos from my childhood, these don’t seem nearly as sticky. I will have to do an update in a year.
I have just decided to repurpose an old shoe box as a holding box, for items that I am either sort of busy with or for whatever reason I don't or can't put away right away ... otherwise my space turns into a mess. With the holding box, I can put all my loose bits and pieces in there and do a packaway once a week or so, or I can dip into the box if it is a project I am partway through and I don't want to put it all away properly
For storage, I try to focus on shape and size and appropriateness for the items being stored. I worry about color last because I buy cans of spray enamel in my favorite color and spray paint everything to match. There is even paint for those plastic bins.
The idea of storing die cuts in the folder with the die cut in it is genius. I always forget I have them and then I make more and later find the ones I already cut out. I'm fairly new to die cuts, so I'm probably the only one here who has never heard of storing them this way. lol. This video was very helpful. Some of the storage ideas I've done and some I haven't. All great ideas.
Thank you and I am glad the idea was inspiring to you. I felt like all those little pieces were out of sight out of mind. I have already made a big dent in my stash since implementing this system.
Honey, we were all new at one point and had to learn. Heck, we are all STILL learning and doing what our imaginations come up with daily. I will never forget we were in a live chat, feisty mom and I were talking and were trying to figure out what in the world a stickle was😂. 🥰 Happy day 😊
@@CraftyConceptswithErinI’m a new subscriber and your videos are really helping me get my craft area in some kind of order. Lol My question is, is how do you number them/inventory your items?
Organizing is an ongoing endeavor as new tools come in or new products from our very creative companies. I use note books for storing stencils and love it. Then I made a huge decision to separate all my word stamps from the stamp sets into a huge binder listing categories. This has saved me multitudes of headaches never remembering what set they were in. I did label all my clear stamps pockets with the company they were from but rarely use that info as I am not a designer or have videos. I rethink my artroom about twice a year. Last year I rounded up 6 big boxes of stuff and gave it to a distant cousin who loves stamping. (There is literally no one in our large family who is arty or stamps. ) I too use the refrigerator bins for literally all of my stamps and will never change that as they work perfectly. The biggest dilemma is what to do with the scrap paper after a project. I keep black and white scraps in a bin together. Colored small pieces are in a bin and solid larger pieces I put back with the same colored cardstock. Works for me. Well that’s the basics here. Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. We all will grab one at some point!
I agree, organizing is ever evolving on ongoing. It is nice to have found a home for your stamp sets you were ready to give away with your cousin. It makes it a little easier knowing they will be enjoyed.
You’re braver than I am: I’ve been thinking of separating my word stamps from sets for years. I was concerned how I would reassemble the sets if I ever wanted to do that. It just occurred to me this morning that I could stamp the word images on paper and keep them with the set. Duh!.!
Thank you for these great ideas. I have too much stuff not stash but stuff. I have decided to give away half of it so that my craft room is easier to organise. My friends are coming to visit and the first thing they say to me is "No, I haven't got the space for any more stash" I'm slowly managing to give stuff away, church, disabled people, retirement homes and so on. Give it a try, it's liberating. Blessings
I keep a couple of junk journals on my desk and any scraps or die cuts I don’t use I will keep and arrange them on the pages of the junk journal. I don’t do one page at a time I just randomly pick pages that are blank and then as I add more a theme may arise on each page that I then kind of go with.
Great ideas. I bought a dream box a few months ago to solve my problem of storage. $3000 later I love my space now. Purged a lot, found a lot of things I had forgotten about. I have an Etsy shop and really need to produce orders daily. It took a week to build it, sort supplies and get comfortable with it all.
This is the first video of yours I’ve watched - I love the binder idea and will set one up right away! I use binders to organize most of my bills and important paperwork. SO much easier than a filing cabinet. Plus, in an emergency, I can just grab my binder with insurance information, birth certificates and passports, banking and credit cards, etc.
Abby, what a wonderful idea to put all your information in a binder. I need to set up something for my family in case something happens to me. This would be more useful then keeping things in a file cabinet❤
My boys came home for Xmas so I had to fold up all my sewing tables. Told my husband that I was going to declutter my scrap side since I have all that room. Then I told him that if I even LOOK at another paper pack to slap me across the face!!! I'm feeling good about the purge. AND I'm taking my time. Spend about a day a week in there
It does feel so great to get organized and let go of things we are not using. I had to laugh at you telling your hubby to give you a smack if your eyes strayed to new paper lol 😂
@@CraftyConceptswithErin omg there's so many. I've already removed 2 whole kitchen trash bags full of just stuff I didn't throw before and I haven't cleared the corner! But I see light at the end of the tunnel!
Thank you for sharing . I need to organize my room and you have given me so many ideas . Now to find someone to come help me 😂. Hope you have a wonderful day.
Erin, thank you so much for your organizational tips. I am in the process of reorganizing my craft room to accommodate a larger desk. When you mentioned keeping most used tools handy I almost panicked realizing what a big mistake I had made and immediately ran upstairs fixed my error. When I had reassembled my most used tools I had a big sigh of relief and thanked you! I would have been so frustrated with having had all those items in different places. Thank you Erin!
You are so welcome! How nice to now have a larger desk space! The tips are simple but I have had to move stuff around after working in a space for a while once realizing what a pain it was to continually reach for certain items.
Thanks for the ideas.. Just want to add an alternative for buying magnetic sheets. Both Lowes and Home Depot carry magnetic vent cover sheets. They are 8x15 inches come 3 to a pack and cost under $9 dollars. I bought an old cork board at a thrift store for a couple of dollars and attached the magnetic sheets with the E600 0 glue and put my word dies on it. Need another cork board for my shape dies and some more magnetic sheets!
Excellent tip Norma, thank you for sharing your find. I love how you’ve repurposed an old cork board too. A crafty friend who is a teacher grabbed an big white board from the trash pile at school. She covered it with magnets and it is perfect for metal dies. Always nice to repurpose something.
I love these ideas, I always learn something new even though I've been scrapping a long time. I just started collecting dies, they're something I've never used before. While I like the idea of keeping the extras in a binder, I know I'd never keep up with it. I really like your original idea of keeping the extras in the actual die envelope. I know me pretty well at this point! 😉
I am so glad you are learning from the videos. Yes it is so good to be honest with ourselves and know what we will actually stick with. I will still keep stamped items in their envelopes with the stamp sets. The binder will mainly be for left over bits from kits like the punch out dies. I try to use it all up but there is always a few items left over.
I have a hard time organizing those bulky wooden stamps. I have a large collection that was given to me and its kinda overwhelming looking through it to find a stamp that will work for a project.
That was one of the biggest downsides of wooden stamps. I have seen others use very narrow shelves from IKEA to display and organize their wooden stamp sets. You would need some open wall space but it looks like a nice solution.
Have you seen how people un-mount the wood-mounted stamps? Here's a good video about it: th-cam.com/video/15bgoaAjwR4/w-d-xo.html. I'm still in the process of transforming my own large collection. It takes a while, but it's so nice to be able to use them the same ways I use my clear stamps!
I've added some "s" hooks to my trollies and I now hang up a lot of items on those e.g. pen and marker sets, packets of stickers and fussy cuts etc. I use the bag they came in but strengthen the bits that woud tear from use with cellotape, plus the hole at the top if it is only cellophane. I'm finding I use them more often and I'm careful to put them all back when finished (adnormal for me!!!). Plus remember, you don't need every colour of every item. You are never going to use 100 stamp pads etc! Ask yourself, "when did I last use this" and be tough on yourself. Don't shift piles, like I do, LOL.
I have wire shelves on my wall, and I use “S” hooks on the front sides to keep my shape dies (small/medium/ large circles, squares, rectangles, etc) on the front of the 2 shelves I can reach without getting up from my 😊desk.
Such timely advice! My friend and I both are getting ready to organize our craft rooms. I cringed when you mentioned bins with no lids. I have organized other rooms like this and I get so grossed out when I reach into a container to get something and I come out with not only the object but lots of dust and cat hair. I have an old house and it gets dirty quickly even though we run an air purifier most of the time. With your tips in hand, once everything is organized, it will be much easier to clean. But I will be taking advantage of storage with lids 😉 I hope others with similar issues read this before planning their storage solutions. I would be curious to know if others have tips to prevent or deal with dust and pet hair.
I agree wiping off lids is easier and leaves your materials clean to work with. Many craft items can’t be washed before working with them and can’t be used covered in dust and debris. Labeling your bins and using clear containers is the best way to go. Having a place for everything that is practical and be put away and replaced. I would start with organizing items into cheap shipping boxes by hobby. Sewing items, scrap booking, painting crafts, resin crafts… Then one box at a time organize the items. Start with your most important hobbies then work to the rest. If it’s a hobby you rarely do maybe swap materials with a fellow hobby friend or donate items. She has a lot of good ideas but not everything will fit each person’s needs or work room. Trail and error and you may have to make your craft containers or buy from thrift stores.
@@christienelson1437… great idea: I think I have a package of unassembled bankers boxes that would work for separating by type. They’re god sized and would all be the same size. They were inexpensive when I bought them lo those many years ago. I think I will use colored plastic tape to reenforce the sides and make them easier to identify at a glance.
I love that you posted a video at a Joann fabric store. I work there and every time I put stuff away I always think “oh my gosh I really need this!”I have had to seriously keep myself from buying many things that are a very good price, but ultimately I don’t have space or use for lol
I am so excited that I found this video. I am getting cabinets with big drawers in my craft space and I have quite an investment of CTMH Acrylix stamps and the tips you offer are great!
Always appreciate learning new ideas & what helps plus learning what may now be helpful. My main organization challenge is in organuzing my papers of all sizes, textures, colors. Have tried many suggestions, but not yet found what is the most helpful. Open to learn some more.😊
Paper is tough because we have so much of it and it's hard to categorize. I have a system for my solid card stock but pattern paper is still a work in progress. I keep collections together in their plastic sleeves and have them on the shelf by season, holiday, theme. Some end up in the miscellaneous section but it does narrow down my search.
As a gel plate printer, my table top qas 3 ft deep in printed papers, sheet music, book text, tissue paper, etc. I got under the bed storage containers . They are separated by color into A.)neutrals + B&W; B.)Blues and greens; orange, C.)yellow, reds, lavender, etc (not used as much). Watercolor, drawing papers are stored separately.
@@CraftyConceptswithErinI have my cardstock in magazine holders by color and size re letter size and 12 x 12 on bookshelves. 6x 6 pads are in quart ziplock bags by season or theme sorted in 2 shoe boxes. Back in the day when there were frequent sales 5/$1, I often bought more than I sheet at a time of colored cardstock and teamed the selection with coordinating patterned paper at the same time. And I have the coordinating patterned paper stored With the card stock. I learned my lesson with buying paper pads in the beginning. It didn’t come out less expensive to buy pads when I wouldn’t use several sheets in a pad. I bought basic white, black, kraft and ivory in packs of 25, 50, or 100sheets at a time.
I, too, have issues with "piles". Have a large bin right now that needs to be used up as cards. It's crazy. But like the idea of tackling a bit at a time.
Thought to let you know I have been tackling 1 area at a time. Making good progress, as long as I stay focused! I'm keeping a notepad handy, so I write down card ideas as I clean rather than stopping to pursue that idea right then.
Thanks for the great tips. I also use a binder to store extra embellishments but I put them in those baseball card or picture holders. Love all your ideas
Great tips, Erin. I donate my stuff to school art teachers and church rummage sales. Hey, don't you want to keep those kids stamps for upcoming grandkids? Just saying.... Ha! Ha! :)
Erin I love the binder idea. I have a scraprack for store bought items, but a binder is excellent idea just for CTMH embellishments. Thanks for sharing I love love your red Hair Beautiful. 😊
My biggest concern is once I purge, how do I get rid of the stuff? Don’t know any fellow crafters yet as we just moved to a new area a few months ago. I am still setting up my new craft room. Just having trouble figuring out where I want to put stuff. Some I have already moved several different places.
Hello Trish. I think once we start working in a new space we get a feel for the flow and design and often move things around. For de-stashing, I believe there are online Facebook groups where you can list used craft supplies. It can be kind of a pain because you have to be checking routinely and then you have to mail the items but it's nice to get a little compensation for your used supplies. Others will have a yard sale and advertise craft supplies, you can also donate them to schools or senior centers but I would call first to be sure they are interested.
Great tips! I’m definitely guilty of trying to organize way too much stuff instead of just decluttering! I started one of those sticky albums too but I haven’t added my leftover die cuts yet. Good idea!
It's a project you could sit down and do while watching a movie. Having them in their little bags wasn't working for me and I would always forget they were there.
I like your idea for the extra pieces. I think i have an old picture album that i was going to use for ideas, but then found great ideas on facebook and pinterest.
I'm coveting the black shelf/drawer behind you! It matches my9 drawer chest in my craft room!! I like the binder for bits and pieces. Baseball pockets work too!
Thank you! The sheets are sticky but not overly so. I can pop the die cuts up easily without issue. At first I was worried it wasn’t sticky enough but as long as I spread them out it works well. If you were adhering super thin paper maybe there’d be problems but I think it’s going to be good. I will have to do an update in a year.
Great question because I was going to ask the same thing! I know I have older albums with pictures in them and they are stuck down almost permanently! When I go to try and remove the pictures, they tear.
Need help with storing thicker stickers and dimensional.ones. I have drawers ( alex, from Ikea) full. Theme. Fall, halloween, Christmas, Burthday, Beach, Baby etc. I do use them, do not buy too often anymore , trying to use up but still, this method you have to pull all out to find what you want to use. Any ideas??? Love tge binders! Want to use it, but I'm not sure it will work with the thicker ones. I have purged tins but still have lots!
I agree and don’t think this would be good for thicker embellishments. I use small clear acrylic drawers that are intended for storing and organizing cosmetics. They are great for acrylic embellishments and things that are thicker. You can find them on Amazon but I typically purchase mine from TJ Max or Home Goods. They look like these amzn.to/47QeDfb
You referenced Cass from Clutterbug, check out Dana’s container concept from A slob comes clean. Their two concepts of not organizing clutter and the container concept work really well together.💜🐞
I love the humor you shared in this! Getting organized is always my goal, and I'm always looking for other ideas, however, STAYING organized, I think is the other big challenge! Thanks for the great tips Erin, I like the Ephemra book, I think I'd just take the pages out of the Notebook and put it in a bin to flip through just like we do with our stamp sets. Happy 2024!
Haha, thanks for laughing with me in this video. Staying organized is not always easy. I try to put everything away before going to bed, unless the layout is not completed. My space is small so it kind of forces me to clean up between projects.
Oh, these leftover little pieces..... Yes, I struggle with, too! I have a binder, but I do not put them away in my crafty process. Paper and scraps is another big problem. What are you doing ( while you are working on a layout) with all the stuff you do not use????
When I get a new collection I try really hard to use it up, it doesn’t always work that way but I’m getting better at it. I keep everything in a large plastic envelope or the zip too bag it came in. I have a section in my room for new products so I remember to focus on using them.
I have been trying to place all my ephemra in a binder like I learned from Janet at RTS and it is so nice. My only problem is the stickiness of the tape and the time to stick each one down in the book. You have just given me a wonderful idea with the self sticking page protectors. I will be out tomorrow getting some. Thank you
I have vellum, 12x12 papers, everything imaginable for pets, acetate, sticky sheets on both sides. All in all, my room drives me nuts. My craft room is in my bedroom. Any ideas on how not to drive me crazy>
Thanks, it has really been working well for me and I can confirm I have used significantly more of my embellishments since adopting this storage solution.
The tip about how to store embellishments in a 'magnetic' album is excellent. I also like the idea of putting the embellishments into the the stamp set envelope. I will use this while working on a project and then move the pieces to the magnetic album. Definitely will order the pages. Thanks for some cool tips. Liked the video clips of you shopping--it added interest.
Hello, the envelopes I showed in the video are from Amazon. I like them well enough but the closure design is a bit fussy so I just fold it over. The dies stick to the magnets and I have never had one fall out amzn.to/3S1m4dx. My sister has these and they are a really nice option too shrsl.com/4dsl4
I am not sure even where to start! I got rid of two book boxes last year of stuff. It still is a disaster and I have not even made last years Christmas cards.. I guess I have to send out 4th of July cards now!!
Thank you for this video. It was very helpful. About the magnetic wall, do you just stick it directly on the wall or on another surface before you hang it on the wall?
I am glad you enjoyed the video. For the magnet board, I started with a thin piece of sheet metal. The stores will cut them to a size for you. My husband screwed the sheet metal to the wall and I then adhered the magnets to it. The magnet sheets are very strong, occasionally I have to use my Cricut spatula to lift off a die. You peel off the backing and stick it directly to the sheet metal. It was really easy to set up. These are the magnets I recommend amzn.to/3HqtTVf
Hello, you can comfortably fit 30 and still be able to flip through. You could fit several more but they would be snug and you’d have to lift them out to view the stamp.
This was very interesting!!! Question- you said you made the frosted color dividers for your contained die cuts. Could you share more info in that please!!???! Thanxabunch ❤️😀
Hello, I apologize for the delayed response, the frosted dividers came with an old paper storage system I had many years ago. They were 12x12 dividers so I cut them down to divide my dies and used my label maker to add the labels. I have not been able to locate them since.
Hello, I ordered these on Amazon however the 5x7 size is currently unavailable amzn.to/4e0f0YX. I have not tried these but they appear to be similar and have good ratings. amzn.to/3yHTt7f
I love your ideas Erin. It is a struggle for sure but you explain very well what to avoid and what might be a better way. I use the bins like yours and that has helped me find and use stamps and dies that I own. Do you have a method for left over stickers from our sticker sheets? I find if I leave them in the PP I don't have a easy way of finding what I might have leftover.
Hi Kathy, that is a good question. I typically do leave them in the bag with the collection but am considering adding them to the binder once I’ve pretty much used up all the paper. It seems I always have a few left over stickers. I would cut around it so the backing is still intact and then add them to the binder.
Thanks Erin I was wondering if that work as long as the backing was left on. I just find I am having a hard time finding these left over stickers and what ones I actually have. I think I am going to give your binder idea a try. @@CraftyConceptswithErin
Hi, Erin. I'm a new subscriber and this is the first of your videos I've watched. I love your organization ideas. I'm wondering, do you use stencils, and if so, how do you store them. I find them difficult to organize because they come in so many different sizes. If you or your design team have a video on this subject, could you direct me to it, please?
Hello and welcome to my channel, thank you for subscribing. I store my stencils in a three ring album in 12x12 page protectors. My friend Jayma does the same and she has shared it in this video here th-cam.com/video/RZpPTO9hK5w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2Gmw7mNVA6Od68Te
Thank you. They are handy to keep track of all the little pieces while I am working with a kit but then I start compiling random leftovers and they fill up quickly.
Where did you find the pen holders? I have several of the Tri-blend markers, and I researched that they should be stored sideways; however, I cannot find a handy holder like I see on your craft table. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Beckie, I do store my Tri-Blend markers flat in these trays from Amazon amzn.to/3vGokzy. The clear pen holders on my desk are where I keep my Shimmer Brushes and some random tools. They are actually bathroom organizers from Home Goods. These are not the exact ones I have but very similar amzn.to/4b2QLYq
I enjoyed your video very much. You seem like such a lovely person to be around. I also enjoyed your tips, didn't know I needed to organise my scraproom until I watched this video.
Thank you Cindy, I am glad you enjoyed the video. I tried to have a bit of silly fun with this one. I think many of us crafters are always looking for new storage solutions and our craft rooms are an ever evolving space.
Love your video!!! My biggest issue right now is trying to find closed storage systems. We moved into this house in June. I have my supplies in fridge bins on metal shelving, but because you can see all the way through our house from the front door, my storage looks messy. I need to plan it out well so I don't buy something that won't work. I really like the binder idea for storing embellishments. This could sit next to my scrapbooks and photo albums and look tidy. What do you do with acrylic shapes?
Ah that is tough when your space is open to the main part of the house. I hope you find some nice cabinets for your craft area. I keep the acrylic shapes in little clear drawers designed for makeup or jewelry. I find them at Home Good or TJ Max stores. They are similar to these on Amazon amzn.to/3HuqFA1
Love the video. I do most of my scrapbooking at crops so need solutions for storage that pack and travel well. Do you have any additional recommendations for this? Thanks again for the many videos that address our scrappin' challenges.
Thank you, I am glad you enjoyed it. I love scrapbooking with friends at retreats and crops. I believe Andrea will be sharing tips on this very subject later this week. I will make a note to share the process the next time I pack for a crop.
I actually have several shelves full of empty containers which I likely won’t need after I’m done organizing my art studio. Once I started removing everything to remake the room and organize I found one after another of unneeded containers.
Hello Joyce, it is always exciting setting up a new craft space. There are many variables to factor in when designing your room. Consider your craft supplies and how they are stored, do you like to stand while crafting or sit at a desk? I like to have my things close by and it is helpful to have designated stations for things like your die cutting machines. It really depends on the layout of your room, and the supplies you have, but I recommend watching several craft room tour videos and looking for ideas that will work for you.
I created my magnet board with adhesive backed 8x10 sheets and adhered them to a thin sheet of galvanized sheet metal. My friend did the same but attached the magnets to an old dry erase board. These are the magnets I bought and they are very strong - Magnet Valley 5 Magnetic Sheets of 8" x 10" Adhesive 60 mil Magnet Ultra Thick amzn.to/3OD6kN9
Hello, those can be tough. If it were me I’d store them in paper envelopes upright with my other patterned paper. Paper pads can be thick so I’d probably divide them into smaller portions to fit the storage envelopes. I’ve had paper pads stacked on a shelf and they tend to get forgotten when they are off by themselves.
Love all your ideas! I especially love the magnetic board for dies you use alot. I have not found one yet. My husband bought me one off Amazon but it does not stick well enough. Do you mind sharing or have recommendations where to find one? Thank you.
I made my own so I could have specific dimensions that i needed for my space. I used magnetic vent covers and very sticky score tape(6" wide roll bcz I already have that on hand and it's very sticky) and I cut a 1/4 inch thick project board down to the size I needed. I adhered the magnetic vent covers to my board and then added a 3/4" wood frame around the outside to finish it off. My 2nd board I recently made was 15"x48" made the same way. It was a bit of work but I liked that I could make the sizes I needed for the space I wanted to have them in. They work like a charm. My 1st one I've had up for 2 years with no issues and it holds my nesting squares and rectangle and nesting stitched squares and rectangles. The 2nd one I made holds my nesting and stitched nesting circles and ovals. I had an 8x10 inch piece of that 1/4" wood left over so I covered both sides of that and pin nailed it between 2 pieces of that 3/4" trim so it would stand upright and that can be moved from my die cutting area to my desk to hold any smaller dies that I might be working with (when using my tiny die cutting machine at my desk) for a particular project(any dies that don't belong on my magnetic boards). It's been working great and I don't lose any small dies on my desk!
Hi Connie, I got a thin piece of sheet metal from Lowes. They have smaller pieces or they will cut it to size for you. My husband screwed that to the wall and then I used very strong adhesive backed magnet sheets to cover the sheet metal. Your dies will not fall off these sheets, sometimes I have to use my thin Cricut spatula to pry them off. You peel off the backing and stick it to the sheet metal, it is so easy! These are the sheets I got from amazon amzn.to/3U0CNAx
Back in the day we had photos get stuck also but these newer versions are archival safe unlike the old style. I think it’s definitely possible for die cuts to get stuck if left for years and years but so far they come right up with zero issue. My friend has been using this system for close to a year and has no trouble either.
Does anyone have any solutions for storing "in progress" projects? For instance, they might need to dry, cure, or other elements need to be created, etc.
I have a tiered tray cart and it works great for in progress projects. I show it in my full scrapbook room tour video towards the beginning of the video, it might be a great solution for you th-cam.com/video/CAzHgOYN4VE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=yaCmYfQBz5ZZradf
I was wondering if you had any other ideas for cutout storage. I ripped my photo albums apart and used the plastic for other projects (ok.ok. i haven't used them yet...😂) and used the cardboard for some other crafts/junk journals. Those albums are horrible and should never be used for photos. Not only are the photos there forever and cannot be removed without ruining them, they are not acid-free. So, i wondered also if they would affect the die cuts because the paper we usually use is acid-free. Thoughts?
I agree, the old versions of these were terrible. I can remember helping my mom try to salvage photos and we were not successful with all of them. These newer options are archival safe. My friend has been using hers for a lot longer with no issues. My goal is to use up the embellishments in a timely manner so hopefully they will never have the opportunity to become stuck. Maybe if the paper was extremely thin but I’m optimistic I won’t have any issues. At first I was concerned they would not be sticky enough.
@CraftyConceptswithErin OH! Who knew that there was an acid-free version?! Lol, not Me! But yes, I totally agree that the idea is making them visible and therefore better able to see and use them in a timely fashion! I will search around and see if I can find them Because it IS a great idea!
Embellishments! I have about 6-8 little dishes & bags full of little die cuts. I like your suggestion. Where did you get the newer pages like the old magnetic ones?
You can link the physical cartridges to design space. The coordinating stamp sets show the size you want to cut the corresponding shape for the stamped image. There are lots of tutorials on TH-cam, this one might be helpful th-cam.com/video/N8Qm5ahg75w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4ECZfyJmpbbcXld1 Hopefully that is what you were looking for.
Erin, thank you for the binder idea. I have a cricut expression. My biggest issue is that for example, if I want to cut out a dog, I have to look thru all my booklets to see what cartridges have dogs. Do you know of an app that has all the images in categories? I have done some research but haven’t found anything that was helpful.
That was my biggest complaint with the Cricut cartridges also. I have heard of others making an excel spread sheet where you type in dog, cat or plant (whatever the image may be) and then add what cartridge it is from. That way you can search the document by keyword. It would take a very long time to enter all the images but save a ton of time in the long run.
Thank you Erin, years ago at a retreat, there was a gal who had a binder list with a list of all the images in categories but have know idea who she was, lol. Starting my own spread sheet would take me forever to do
I think some people recall a specific die they want to use by thinking of the set it came in, so they want to keep the set intact. Or to have all the coordinating items right at hand. But if you don't think of things in sets that way, I think dumping them all in a bin is great! I love mixing things from different sets, and having them separated actually restricts that.
Hello Shelly, paper can always be a tough item to organize because it doesn't always fall into neat categories. I store my cardstock pieces in the same envelope with the full 12x12 pieces. My patterned paper I keep together in their bags with the collection. I figure I am more likely to use them together as they are designed to coordinate. If I only have one sheet left I will organize them by the predominant color in the patterned paper.
@@CraftyConceptswithErin thanks for your feedback. I guess I need to store my regular paper differently…..all full sheets are in containers with other colors.
What a great idea, that sounds like a fun time! I’m sure they loved every minute of it.
Take pictures before you give them away....
An idea is to donate for church/school silent auctions ! Make into a gift basket and people love them
I had that problem when I started making better, nicer, prettier cards. Then I got a smartphone and started taking photos of them. I tell myself that this way I can always re-create them (even though I rarely do 😊). And I find it much easier now to let the actual card go. - Give it a try … Kind regards from Germany, Nicola
@@nicolalederer9517😊
Organizing doesn't create space.... but it does make a space more efficient so I think you should regularly reevaluate what is close at hand. My tips:
- Function before aesthetics.
Hey, great hints, thanks!!!🥰🥰🥰
When my Cricut mats are just about done, I try to wash them to bring back a little sticky. I cut them into 4 pcs, same with the plastic clear cover and I add my left-over paper embellishments onto these, cover with the clear sheet and place in a bin. I can then flip through them for items.,
That is a clever idea, it is the same principle but I love that you are repurposing your old Cricut mats.

That is a great idea, it keeps things tidy while you are still using them.
For storage, I try to focus on shape and size and appropriateness for the items being stored.
I worry about color last because I buy cans of spray enamel in my favorite color and spray paint everything to match. There is even paint for those plastic bins.
That is a great tip to spray paint everything to match!
I do that, but I put them in a separate small envelope so it’s easier to keep them together inside the die envelope
@@suzyqcrafts5440 What is it???
Fabulous tips! I too have yet to work on my wedding album. It’s been 23 years.
Haha, glad I am not the only one, this will be 24 years for me.
Blessings
I had to chuckle when you said your friends give an automatic “no thank you”. Good for you doing what it takes to get organized!

I keep a couple of junk journals on my desk and any scraps or die cuts I don’t use I will keep and arrange them on the pages of the junk journal. I don’t do one page at a time I just randomly pick pages that are blank and then as I add more a theme may arise on each page that I then kind of go with.
LOVE hearing the mistakes to avoid...i was holding my breath on each one wondering if im making one 😂 i do a lot of stuff-shifting 🤦🏽♀️
Lol, yes it’s so easy to move the pile around as needed. I am very guilty of doing that.
That is awesome! The Dream Boxes look like a great solution. It is amazing what we can find when we take a deep dive into our stash.
Thank you Abby, I agree, binders are a great organizing tool!
It can be such a satisfying project to tackle, and 100 times more fun when you have someone to help you. I hope you have a wonderful day too.
Haha, it's nice to meet another pile shifter 😂 Great tip for using the S hooks on the side of your cart.
I have wire shelves on my wall, and I use “S” hooks on the front sides to keep my shape dies (small/medium/ large circles, squares, rectangles, etc) on the front of the 2 shelves I can reach without getting up from my 😊desk.
@@sharonkirts9560 That sounds even better!!! Thanks for the hint.🥰
I agree with you on the lids!
I know what you mean about those Joann finds - they're so tempting! If I worked there I would be in trouble 😂
Great tips! I’d love to know your “micro categories “ on how you store dies & stamps.....

Oh good, I’m glad it was helpful! It’s a great feeling when you can organize all your supplies, isn’t it?
You are hilarious! I enjoyed the video and am gonna check out some more of yours. Thanks!!!
Hi Erin from another Erin. Us Erin’s need to stick together 😂.
Great ideas. I’m definitely guilty of the shifting piles 😊
Getting ready to organize a new craft room. Thanks for sharing and all your ideas
You are so welcome, how exciting to be setting up a new space!
@@CraftyConceptswithErin TU....good to know another idea. Thanks for sharing!😊
It didn’t come out less expensive to
buy pads when I wouldn’t use several sheets in a pad.
How’d you know what I’ve been doing all weekend? Great ideas! Thank you 😊
Haha, Tis the season for organizing right? It always feels so nice to have your crafting space in order.
Such great advice! I need to address my piles of stuff as they are starting to take over too much space - not sure how they multiply so quickly!
After one crafting session I end up with piles 😂
Thanks for the great tips. I also use a binder to store extra embellishments but I put them in those baseball card or picture holders. Love all your ideas
Love that photobook rec!!!, thank you
That binder is brilliant! Thank you for all the ideas. Also- you're stunning!
I do the same with my extra pieces in with stamps. That way when I craft with the set, I have bits to work with and use it up.
Great tips, Erin. I donate my stuff to school art teachers and church rummage sales. Hey, don't you want to keep those kids stamps for upcoming grandkids? Just saying.... Ha! Ha! :)
LOL, don't think it hasn't crossed my mind and I have definitely kept a few of my favorite kids stamps for that very purpose 😂

Thanks for sharing I love love your red Hair Beautiful. 😊
Thank you Cynthia, the scrap rack looks like a good solution also!
Thank you, the scrap rack looks like a great solution also!
Senior Centers, Mental Health Centers, After School Programs, they ALL need them.
Thank you very helpful! ❤
You’re welcome! I’m glad you found it helpful.
Haha, now I want your 9 drawer chest for my space! 😉 My brother in law custom made that for me and it has been really handy over the years.
@@CraftyConceptswithErin sweet!
Love these ideas... question though... don't the diecuts in the binder get stuck to the sticky background?
Love the embellishment album😊

I love Dana! Dana and Cass offer a course together 😀
I hear you, I am guilty of those various trims
I love the humor you shared in this! Getting organized is always my goal, and I'm always looking for other ideas, however, STAYING organized, I think is the other big challenge! Thanks for the great tips Erin, I like the Ephemra book, I think I'd just take the pages out of the Notebook and put it in a bin to flip through just like we do with our stamp sets. Happy 2024!
Haha, thanks for laughing with me in this video. Staying organized is not always easy. I try to put everything away before going to bed, unless the layout is not completed. My space is small so it kind of forces me to clean up between projects.
Great tips. That binder is awesome!
Thank you, so far it’s working very well for me.
Thank you
Janice's binder was my first inspiration, I hope this streamlines the process for you 😃
I have vellum, 12x12 papers, everything imaginable for pets, acetate, sticky sheets on both sides. All in all, my room drives me nuts. My craft room is in my bedroom. Any ideas on how not to drive me crazy>
Stumbled across your channel, great ideas . I absolutely love the 3 ring binder suggestion, my work space just got bigger. TFS
Hello there, welcome to my channel! I was just adding my new Christmas ephemera to that 3 ring binder and thinking how much I love the system.
I love the binder idea, I used lots of binders in my craft space so going to try this one.
Thank you, so far this has definitely helped me utilize more of my stash.
I love using a binder for die cuts but I use the different size pocket pages rather than the sticky ones. Saves room
Great tips - definitely going to try the sticky album pages for all those extra pieces I just can’t seem to part with.
I hope it works well for you. I like how I can take the binder with me to crops also.
What envelopes do you use for your dies?
Hello, the envelopes I showed in the video are from Amazon. I like them well enough but the closure design is a bit fussy so I just fold it over. The dies stick to the magnets and I have never had one fall out amzn.to/3S1m4dx. My sister has these and they are a really nice option too shrsl.com/4dsl4
I learned a while back that binders are the solution for many organizational issues
Yes, I agree, they work well for a multitude of organizational needs.
Wow!😊
this video had me giggling multiple times! thanks for the good entertainment:)
Haha, I am glad you enjoyed it and had a good laugh.
I am not sure even where to start! I got rid of two book boxes last year of stuff. It still is a disaster and I have not even made last years Christmas cards.. I guess I have to send out 4th of July cards now!!
One thing about Christmas cards is you can use them the following season 😂 Getting rid of two book boxes is a great start, I know it's hard to do!
Wow, so many great ideas! Look forward to seeing more!
Thanks so much, I am glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Great tips!!! Thanks, Erin!
Thanks Kati! I love organizing my space and finding new solutions.
QUESTION: how many CTMH plastic envelope Acrylix stamp sets fit in the Lowe's Allen+Roth fabric bins? Thanks!
Hello, you can comfortably fit 30 and still be able to flip through. You could fit several more but they would be snug and you’d have to lift them out to view the stamp.
Thank you for some great ideas!
Okidokie thank you!!! ❤️😀
I am new to Stamping it Up, and want to know which 5 x 7 black magnets you use to insert into the stamp case to hold the dies.

@@CraftyConceptswithErin Thank you!
Love your little trays to store the little left over bits.
Thank you. They are handy to keep track of all the little pieces while I am working with a kit but then I start compiling random leftovers and they fill up quickly.
Love your ideas! Can you remove the paper diecuts from the sticky binder sheets easily? Im a bit worried that they will tear when being removed.
Thank you! Yes the paper pieces come off very easily. The sheets are pretty low tack and so far so good.
Thank you! I will check that out.
Nice, having open space in your craft room is an amazing feeling 😃
I need a craft room layout plan. Where can I find info on best way to set up? I’m going to be moving my stuff from basement to upstairs.
Where can one find that large STRONG magnet board? I am in Canada
I created my magnet board with adhesive backed 8x10 sheets and adhered them to a thin sheet of galvanized sheet metal. My friend did the same but attached the magnets to an old dry erase board. These are the magnets I bought and they are very strong - Magnet Valley 5 Magnetic Sheets of 8" x 10" Adhesive 60 mil Magnet Ultra Thick

Thank you for this video🥳 great ideas and tips🌹 happy 2024🥳
You are so welcome! Happy 2024 to you!
Any suggestions for storing 12 x 12 paper pads?
Hello, those can be tough. If it were me I’d store them in paper envelopes upright with my other patterned paper. Paper pads can be thick so I’d probably divide them into smaller portions to fit the storage envelopes. I’ve had paper pads stacked on a shelf and they tend to get forgotten when they are off by themselves.
@CraftyConceptswithErin thank you! That's a good idea.
I need a bigger room!
Lol, I know the feeling!
Do you have a camera in my house😂😂😂 I swear you made this video JUST FOR ME. Thank you very much ❤❤❤
Lol, I think all of us crafters are always trying to organize our space. It’s an ever evolving process.
Awesome tips! Thank you 😊
You are so welcome!
So many great points Erin! I am so guilty of shifting my piles around.
How do you get the cuts out of the pages without ripping. I remember trying to get pictures out and some would rip
This system is working well for me and helping me to use the embellishments faster. I ordered these sheets from Amazon amzn.to/47WQ14G
I would love to see a video on how to use my old stamp sets that have specific images to use with a Cricut. How can I now use them with Design Space?
You can link the physical cartridges to design space. The coordinating stamp sets show the size you want to cut the corresponding shape for the stamped image. There are lots of tutorials on TH-cam, this one might be helpful th-cam.com/video/N8Qm5ahg75w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4ECZfyJmpbbcXld1
Hopefully that is what you were looking for.
Starting my own spread sheet would take me forever to do
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊
Why do dies need to be in envelopes??? Or stored separately? I have mine thrown into a tub??? Is that ok?
I think some people recall a specific die they want to use by thinking of the set it came in, so they want to keep the set intact. Or to have all the coordinating items right at hand. But if you don't think of things in sets that way, I think dumping them all in a bin is great! I love mixing things from different sets, and having them separated actually restricts that.
So many great ideas!
Thank you!! 😊
My biggest thing to organize is left over paper in odd sizes, how and where to store them?,
So I can find and use them up? and not waste them? Thanks.
