    she did a damn good job on that training. she never had to do it without the treat and with a stranger variables like that change the results. he didnt need as much to put her to sleep thats a damn win! she was calm enough to take half!!

    • @katbairwell
      @katbairwell 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      She did a tremendous job with the training, training any animal to accept veterinary intervention calmly is a challenge, let alone a partially wild tiger! Looking back on it, it's a shame they couldn't have had the local vet do practice subcutaneous saline injections whilst Carolyn only allowed her to lick the food, then having John pass over the sedative to Scott, or the local vet (whichever Ayesha knew best) on the day, and of course having the film crew out of the room, would have given Ayesha the best chance to reward all of Carolyn's efforts. I cannot help but suspect that John was against the idea of not just using a dart gun (probably because that is what he is used to working with), and that he let his frustrations out - unfairly, unkindly - on Carolyn. It would never have been Carolyn's final say on how things were done, and Charlotte rightly backed her own people, who know the animals, and what they can do, the best.

      The stupidity lay in the "specialists". They had far too many people involved. Like with a house cat tigers "bond" with only certain people. Had they gotten rid of the unnecessary observers, who were likely stressed and adding to the tiger's distress, the situation would've been more efficient.

    • @nyx4thene
      @nyx4thene 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      well, he was too harsh, but then again it was him that had to go into a cage with a "half-asleep" but still potentially dangerous tiger to deliver the full dose of the drug, I wouldn't blame him too much.. I would also find it hard to be gentle in that situation

    • @rosamunddrag8971
      @rosamunddrag8971 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nyx4thenethat's not how you deal with animals. You have to understand the risks. She tried to put the tiger in the least stressful environment, which every vet should strive to do. This man seems to have no empathy for people who make mistakes or when something goes wrong. It's an animal. Everything can go wrong. You can't even predict human behavior 100% in some cases, let alone a creature of the species we, humans, are not even close to. This guy has no business working with animals if he expects everything to go smoothly every single time. And he immediately went on his merry way like nothing happened. I would NOT trust that guy even with my wolfdog, let alone a tiger :///

  • @rosa2597

    18:00 Broke my heart 🥺... she was just trying to make it less stressful for the tiger for someone to basically say that it was a waste of time and patience. Talk about being arrogant 😒 P.S. I am not a vet. I am simply observing from a human point of view, not a professional one

    • @vaskitheinsane3985
      @vaskitheinsane3985 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      They broke it down why it’s not fool proof. People are risking their lives to ensure the big cats health. It’s a high stress and high risk procedure. They def didn’t say it was a waste of time. It’s the harsh reality of vet practices. I saw nothing unprofessional about it /shrug but everyone has a different way to interpret situations

    Felt sorry for Elvis' owners for losing Vince, and you can always tell that Scott has a hard time with tough diagnosis or cases where the pet just can't be saved...I honestly don't know how vets handle the daily heartbreak. But I'm very thankful to kind and gentle veterinarians. Scott was very accurate in saying that you can't REPLACE a pet (my family has lost cats over the years and despite having two lovely kittens now, we definitely still miss our previous kitties) but it is always nice to see previous owners open up their hearts and homes to a new pet, once they are emotionally ready.

      Yep. It's better for them to be in the wild, but the wild is becoming more dangerous and disappearing by the day. And, in zoos, these animals practically double their life expectancy, and have veterinary care. I'm all for zoos, as long as they have adequate space, enrichment, and proper diet and shelter for their charges. (Jan Griffiths).

    So when the puppies were getting their shots & microchip, it reminded me of a study showing that babies don’t feel the pain of injections if you breastfeed them while getting vaccinated.

      I don’t want to be mean but do you know how to click the link I provided? And read the information? Let me give you my credentials. I am a retired RN, BSN, IBCLC. IBCLC= International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. I have spent the majority of adulthood studying everything related to human lactation in addition to the practical side of helping new moms breastfeed their babies. Well babies, premature babies, sick babies, newborns & older babies. I’m not a know-it-all but I’m just passing along information that may be useful. I understand that people lie & exaggerate on the internet. I happen to be honest.
      Merry Christmas y’all!

    I really wish they would leave in the surgery footage. Even if they blur it at least we could hear their conversation during. I know TH-cam doesn’t like body fluids but for educational programs it should be allowed.

      Yeah, really. I don't see why it's not kept in. It's natural, and not gross or anything like that. It's sugarcoating on TH-cam's part. (Jan Griffiths).

    10:55 - Scott still has his right hand, the tiger is rewarded with a nice piece of raw meat. Successful tiger behavior lesson! Let's try with the anesthetic needle this time, Scott...

    I think Cass did a great job training the tiger to be injected. That vet obviously isn't a trainer or he would know things don't go as planned many times...

    I know a lot of people felt the man doing the injecting was rude. But he calmly stated the reality that this training isn’t always effective for a situation like this. In other situations the training is probably fine. Also it is more risk for the tiger and humans around if something goes wrong. He wasn’t really rude just wanted her to know there’s higher risk. At least that’s the feeling I got from watching this closely ☺️

    That young lady was so hurt and those guys including Scott were quite rude. If you’re uncomfortable doing the job don’t. But they were asked to handle it a certain way for the benefit of the animal. And the Tiger was stunningly tolerant. But they are all due to apologize to her and Charlotte. Bad show on those guys.

      From listening to them I'd guess average is somewhere around 10 years...I looked it up, in the wild it's 8 to 10, rarely 15. In captivity, 18 to 20...
