    I've lived in ALASKA USA for about 15 years & while there I fell in love with sea otters! It was delightful to see them released back into the sea!
    Even though you're a LONG WAY from were I live... I just LOVE watching all of you tacking care of animals of all sorts. Thank ~ You for what you do!

      Pretty good recovery for a species that was on the edge of extinction a few decades ago. Now if we could just prevent these wild populations from getting endangered that would be much better.

      We need to be smart about how we behave with each member of wildlife. They are not baby dolls and they all have species-specific needs, attitudes, perceptions, diets, and behaviors. For example, the "please do not feed the________" signs. Animals may not physically tolerate human food/treats/meds; perhaps 🤔what we feed them may severely sicken them, worst yet poison them.
      That's just one example. Let's be smart, informed, & safe; safe for/from them & for/from us.

    I do like Dr. Scots easy going manner with the owners, staff and the patients he so lovingly attends. The rook was a challenge. They all worked so well together and pulled him through. Dr. Scott has a big heart and tons of affection for his patients. I love it when he's talking to the patient and tells them what procedure he needs to do, and tells them Uncle Scott will do all he can to make them feel better.

    I love corvids, we feed them and have a few special crow friends, they are incredibly intelligent and affectionate. The crow friends we have are still wild, they like to say hi every now and again. In the three years we've lived here no crow has ever pooped on the laundry drying outside and our windows have only been decorated twice. I think they make the conscious effort to be careful where they poop in return for kind treatment!

      He was found on the side of the road. More than likely he was attacked by an animal and the broken piece was knocked out or pulled or such. It is more than likely it could have fallen from the nest and broken then as well. But he would have been a target to hungry opportunistic animals. So he was probably found quickly and healed without it. But he had no control over it because he had no joint to lift it. So now, he can live without hinderance and not have to worry about injury from dragging it.

      Corvids are crazy smart, they will remember you and they hold grudges, so if you cross paths with any, treat them nicely, and they will spread the word that you're an okay sort, lol. They have a real sense of fair play, and will often bring you presents if you give them something, like a snack, or some pretty, shiny thing that they take a fancy to.

What amazes me about these vets is they know about SO many different animals -- rooks, cats, dogs, cows, birds, reptiles, seals, koalas, tigers, etc. I don't know how they keep all that information straight. I cannot even say how much I loved Rodney hanging on Scott's arm while he worked on that bird. And here is the sucky thing about America's rules about birds who have an injured wing that needs amputation.....if a bird has a wing that needs to be amputated, wildlife rehabbers will take them to the vet to be killed. Our vets won't even try to save a bird like that because of our laws. Our country is so far behind when it comes to the care of animals.

    • @myheartismadeofstars
      @myheartismadeofstars 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@poinsettia12 uh you do realize that animals that we eat would be eaten by predators in the wild (especially since cows and such are domesticated) and watch a video of a wolf pack eating a deer. We at least don't eat animals until they are DEAD. And we make sure they live comfortably, as stress hormones make the meat tough and flavourless (and go bad quicker). Fun fact, this is actually why factory farmed meat is less tasty than free range. And as for fur? Fur animals are given actually pretty good care (my biggest issue is that they aren't given enough space and stimulation) and when they are put down it's a painless method and (while I know it might sound bad) it happens in the cage they are used to, given by the same people they see everyday. They don't know anything is wrong and they are in no extra stress. The worst you can say about cows and such is that they are taken away for slaughter, so they might be a bit stressed from the trip (they might give them time to destress first? unclear). Also leather and fur are very important to a lot of indigenous cultures so...kinda casually racist to say fur and leather are bad. Besides, leather and fur are warm and last a long time...meanwhile the "vegan" alternatives are literally plastic.

      Here in the midwest, I volunteer with raptors, owls and hawks, that can not be rehabbed. We call it assisted living. Keep in mind that a federal license is required to keep wild birds. They live in enclosures open to the weather as they would be in the wild. We do not train them to act like pets but encourage them to be as wild as possible. We do not give them names like Judy or Buffy, again, so people do not think of them as pets but the magnificent wild animals that they are. We feed them and clean their enclosures, which are large enough for flight for those that can fly, even if only a little. It is almost all volunteer. it wouldn't be economically feasible otherwise. To a person, we are devoted to and love these birds.

      She has one of those faces where people will think she is 20 when she is 40. In my family, we are lucky that way, too. When I was first dating my husband, a friend of his commented that he should be embarrassed dating someone so young. I was 27, and two years older than he was!

    I wonder if the rook had an accident that led to a break in the wing bone and that led to resorption of the fractured parts to try and keep the bird alive, which is why there was that gap?

    Bigger ears give a puppy look..Folded ears just always make a dog so much cuter for me.

    Poor seal! How in the world do they get so dehydrated? How and what do they eat if they are separated from there mothers? I’m so glad that you were able to help her! Thank you guys for doing all of this and for often saving these animals lives! By the way Gquenia or Gwueny is such a perfect name for her! So glad she tested negative for Avian flu! She seemed like such a sweet little girl! It’s so sad that they often get separated from their mothers!

    For any animal, it is important to take them to the vet yearly for a baseline understanding of the animal's health do when they are sick, it is clear what is going on. With previous labs and such, it is easier to watch liver and kidney issues that are silent killers until it's too late. So, even though it is a cost, it is an investment because the return of love the animal gives you is worth the investment.

    Dachshunds are a very cute breed thing is I would be mindful of how children or adults carry them since they’re so long and their backs can get injure easily held the wrong way. Mine had an episode one time after I carried him on his back not thinking anything of it of course, anyone else had this happen as well?
