Part 1 of 2 in the chevy impala transmission series. this video features my good buddy Frank who help's make the transmission removal possible. so shoutout to Frank guys
pt2? qq, ive seen some recommendations to pull it w/the motor out the top as its easier to access exp in a driveway. I recently had to do replace the rack & that was a b1tch🤬 mainly the line & reattaching the steering column to the rack.
@@nlessmods1987 Doing a little research and contacting Triple Edge Performance (shout out to Dave at T.E.P), he pretty much nailed it. TCC slipping and causing a grinding noise when in reverse and any forward gear sitting still. I'm pretty sure by now the metal shavings / material have made it into the system or have plugged the filter entirely. I'm kind of tempted to yank the trans, flush the cooler portion of the rad, drop a new TC in and see what happens. I doubt I would get that lucky tho lol. I've got about 50-75 miles on it since it started acting up and about 25 miles since it started grinding. On a side note, the car does drive and shift fine (4th gear lock up issues with the TCC shredding itself) but it doesn't slip at all. And I don't need to take off in 1st, it does just fine in Drive. What would you think? Caught it early enough to save it with a new torque converter or it's already fubar?
i mean id say its defintely possible that its not ffed up yet. but i wouldnt wait. i waited to long to replace my half shaft on my honda and i just replaced it now and im lucky cause the vibrations caused several things to go loose. ALWAYS fix things earlier then later, or it will cost you alot more $$$ and possibly your life. If its something major your ignoring man. Sorry for the run on lol but yeah i think you should still be good@@DickGazInYa
@@nlessmods1987 Oh yeah, it's been parked since it started acting up. Thankfully I have another car (with a bad 3rd gear synchronizer ironically...) but it gets the job done. I think I'm going to just throw a used one in. I found a reputable shop that can do it for $2600 out the door with a 6 month warranty for the trans and labor on a 119k trans. Not ideal, but it's just my daily beater. It's been daily driven for the past 6 years with no major issues so I can't really complain. Oddly enough, I have already done CV shafts on this car. It had an odd vibration that I could not source. Swapping axles fixed it 95% or so but the vibration was still somewhat there. I think it's been the torque converter the entire time.
@@DickGazInYa to bad you not local I think you could get a tranny for about 600$ from a junkyard and I charge 800$ for install and removal that's almost 1k less but hell you can't win them all
As soon as this guy started talking I was like Yeauhp this is the guy I need to watch
