I not only went out of my way to get a copy, I was lucky enough to get it signed by Michael Salvatori. Still one of my most prized possessions. Love for the series might have fallen off over the years but god damn that music. It will always pull me back.
Ah, ODST 😌 You’re a lone soldier wandering through an overrun city during a rainy night, looking for clues to find your team, while saxophone music is playing
@@danthephamily I never noticed! I think you are right! There's only one mission from memory that I remember actually having rainfall weather effects prior to reach, and that being the mission "The Storm" from Halo 3.
If I could play a game again for the first time god this would be the one. I feel hope and sadness mixed with all these other things that really shows me this is what it’s like to be a human being this music if life.
It does a really good job of making sure you know that you aren't Masterchief. I didn't like odst on my first playthrough but now I've played through it 10 times and it's my favorite halo game.
The scene where the Rookie looks up at Luna while this song plays is so impactful. Luna is the moon where he was born, the song gives off the feeling of nostalgia and loneliness, reflecting his emotions.
You know sometimes when you love a game, and hear one of the soundtracks, it just hits right in the right place. You're not only listening to a game soundtrack anymore, you're rememoring old memories and time spent with certain people, in certain places. The entire Halo saga does this to me, I truly cherish this game.
Marty O'Donnell is a masterful composer and a legendary icon in video game music. I still think the halo theme is one of, if not the most recognized piece of modern video game music. Highly recommend checking out his other works especially anything from the Halo 2 soundtrack. One of my favorites from there is Unforgotten
Anytime I had to study or work on something that required my complete focus. I pulled s video of this song on repeat for like 8-10 hours and just played it. Beautiful song. Brings back memories.
Marty O’Donnell is really good with conveying emotion utilizing different musical layers and sounding unique. Pretty all of his Halo pieces have close to this level of detail and intricacy
The Halo series has some of the most memorable soundtracks in the video game industry. Even though Halo 3 ODST may get overshadowed by series' flagship games, it is still a great game that explores the humanity of your common soldier. Hope to hear more Halo content!
Halo 3 ODST and Halo Reach definitely has some of the best somber OSTs and such a masterpiece composed by Marty O’Donnell. I wouldn’t be surprised if ODST inspired Reach
I'm getting nostalgic flashbacks to playing this game. It played during the nighttime scenes of a location called New Bombasa. There was an eery sense of isolated peril as you stealthily avoided the alien covenant, as this gorgeous music played. Such a mood, great memories.
The "Finale" piece of Halo 3 ODST takes this same theme, the same motifs, and rewrites them in a way that evoke not lonliness and despair, but triumph and hope. If you wanted to continue this trend, I would definitely give it a listen! :D
The last section of the saxophone always make me tear up. Not sadness, i cannot explain. Happy melancholy? Marty o donells most beautiful piece, next to the ending song to halo 2 for the credits section
YES! one of my favorite tracks from halo! this song was a trip when it came on in game and really made you feel the pressure of being alone with little hope of success against the covenant
No matter how many times i listen to this soundtrack, i still get the chills. I grew up playing this game, and i can't express how happy it makes me whenever i hear it. I even had to get the CD with all of the soundtracks from ODST and i listen to it in my car literally every single day. I've never enjoyed a game like ODST, and i wish there was another one.
Oh boy, it is this track. Truth be told, Halo 3 ODST is the only Halo game I ever played to completion in the campaign. The only other video game track that gave me this kind of somber feeling was "Midna's Lament" from Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. However, between the two, I would say "Rain" is the more finely crafted piece.
I once played odst and twilight princess in a row, for two days straight. Man that was a life changing experience, it made me feel so complete, just standing there, watching the landscape, with that soundtrack.. it goes deep, very deep
It's way late, but man you've gotta do yourself the favor and play through reach's campaign. The story is amazing and the music following into the credits is something else of an experience.
I played Halo for years and the music was absolutely amazing. This particular piece remind me of working as a security officer doing building Patrol after hours and you're alone except the sound of the radio on your hip. it's the middle of the night and you can hear the rain and thunder outside. I'm now retired but I have that memory as fresh as yesterday, and this music brings it all back
ODST & Gears 3 were the main games I used to play with my cousin, I moved 7 years ago but every time I visit we always get back on and play firefight. Those are some of my most cherished gaming memories, this game and its music will forever hold a special place in my heart.
This piece of music really describes and captures the somber and lonely feel when your walking round New Mombassa, the music gives you hope but also strips that away as it picks up into a fighting tune.
Yeah the halo soundtracks got me through college lol. I remember being a kid in elementary school playing halo 2 and wanting to bring up the music in music class cause its just soooo good.
My favorite Halo game is ODST ,I love Mombasa streets levels atmosphere the quiet rain ,the somber piano ,the orange lit sky’s. I would love to see another halo do something like ODST again
The first time I played ODST and heard this song, I was in complete awe. I just stopped and let the song play out before continuing the game. One of the very best video game soundtracks ever.
honestly, halo odst is the best standalone game in the series. if I were to recommend a newcomer only play one game, it would be this. and I think the music is a big part of that.
This is why I love video game soundtracks, when you listen to a movie or anime soundtrack you can remember a scene and you can go through it in your head and that's cool af. Although in a game it's a scene, a memory where something HAPPENED TO YOU, if done correctly it's not just someone on a screen not an avatar, IT'S YOU. That to me, is so goddamn cool. It's one of the reasons this song slaps so hard but there's this other weird aspect to it, that's the player's knowledge of the fate of New Mombasa you acquire in the earlier games. You know the city is doomed, yet here you are as Rookie trying to save it or at the very least as much of it as you can so this odd dissonance forms, you are Rookie and these are happening to you but at the same time you're just an observer that's forced to play out a zero sum game you know you can't win. Reach took that idea and theme and turned it to 11, that however does not overshadow at all how fucking awesome ODST is.
I think it’s fair to say Marty’s work in the Halo Franchise is the epitome of what video game ost’s should be. ODST is truly special, and Another rain genuinely is one of the most beautiful sound tracks ever created
Oh the nostalgia, playing the original version with the sound at max with headphones on and the music playing in the background while you explore and kill grunts and brutes
I had this come up in my recommended and I hope you end up doing more Halo music. Halo has some of the best music especially Halo 3 and Halo Reach. ODST also has a very incredible soundtrack. Halo 2 has a very good one as well but I feel like 3, ODST, and Reach have the best soundtracks from Halo.
WHAT a work of art this is ❤️😩 Halo 3 ODST is beautiful, but this feels deep, sad, like a tragedy, like we are having a big adventure inside that tragedy, and that's exactly what's going on! I love it ❤️
"Sometimes it pays to be the strong silent type." Oh, you chould listen to Overture from Halo Reach. Granted though just like ODST the entire OST is absolutely amazing.
I'd love a Miyazaki style short film following the Rookie walking through the streets. He doesn't have to fire a gun even, just the sense of rain, loneliness and alien machines flying nearby
Remember when i was playing, the song hit me while there was rain in game and the lights of the broken city just hit right with the environment. I got shivers and just stood there taking all in. This tone of melancholy wasn't something i was expecting on a Halo game when i first played, but it was all perfect in sync with the story and unique for the tittle and games at that time.
who would have EVER thought back in the era of DOOM and Duke Nuke'em we would heard music like this in s a FPS game? ANd of course, while CoD and spinoffs are hugely popular, they cant manage the incredible soul of the first 3/4 Halo games.
Nahhh, the game is very good, I really enjoyed it a lot. But it is impossible to be the best of the series if you are not actually playing with the protagonist of the franchise, Master Chief, that happens to be a great character.
Ever heard of terraria? There is a mid for it with its own soundtrack made by dm dokoro, and it absolutely deserves your attention. It’s a fantastic quality ost for a community made mod to a 2d game.

Ah, ODST 😌

The most amazing part about the game? It actually never rains. It feels like rain because of the soundscape, environment, and foley.
