That transition to a quiet cutscene only to have foo fighters blare out when the pod drops. Fucking adrenaline enducing.
I love it but a miss opportunity was to have rookie getting hit by Romeo as the transition from drawing to cutscene instead of a fade to black
Me reading this comment before that part: nah theres no way its that powerful bullshit
Me wide eyed after the video ended: what in the hell just happened to me?
I wish we had an ODST 2. Screw spartans, I want ODSTs.
I actually kind of liked the Spartan IVs, but yeah, ODSTs were cooler.
Spartan IV just seems a bit jarring. I still get whiplash from it.
Humanity was on the brink of destruction, the UNSC were taking desperate measures to win the war as it grew weaker everyday. With the lost of Reach, and the beating Earth took, humanity will need time to recov- oh wait, humanity now has the biggest ship in space, oh look, shielding technology, oh hey, lots of Spartans now!
This happened WAY to fast, i find it hard to believe.
@@nodosa994many spartan 4s are former marines/odsts, it isn’t hard to figure out ☠️
@veeray0 Man power is not the issue. It's the augmentation, Gen 2 armor, Shielding technology, this literally was pulled out of nowhere.
We already knew a Spartan II was worth a lot, the armor alone already cost as much as a small Warship. The UNSC was in the Crapper by 2552, yet now they can pump out Super Soldiers left, right and center? So uncanny.
I like the spartan IIs and IIIs, but i also like the ODSTs and marines
What i think we REALLY need more of, is the writing that brought us games like Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach
It's dark, rough and moody, but you can still see the glimmer of hope everywhere if you stop and squint
Even from the start, Halo has been about Humanity surviving the odds thrown against them
And it was H3: ODST and Reach that sharpened and pressed forth these points the most
dude , as a massive halo fan this is fucking amazing.

Oh it's not the dream itself...it's how this particular dream ends.
ah yes fighting aliens twice your size with unknown technology is the dream
@@combineconformisthell yeah i already fight aliens they just are brown instead of gray lmao
I love how human they made the ODSTs, like they're a squad and they still lose
You know, you make a good point, hadnt considered Reach@@yasininn76
@@yasininn76not quite, the squad in ODST actually has a proper relationship within the people in it, they all know each other well and have personality, closest you're going to get with that is Emiles and Jorge relationship but thats just because Jorge is the most human, while Emile is the least human and because of that they hate each other. Other then that theres not much in reach to really note.
@@wut-se8hztrue, and the Spartans in Noble team all give off this subtle impression of inhumanity as well. Like they're all just willing to do incredibly dangerous and risky missions with no hesitation or fear whatsoever. Kind of hard to explain, but the Spartan mindset just feels like it's completely devoid of fear. When they willingly go into dangerous situations, it's not really bravery that they show, it's robotic devotion to completing the objective at any cost. Which is completely in line with spartan program lore, I might add. This isn't a criticism, it's how it should be.
The ODSTs on the other hand felt like real human soldiers doing their best simply to survive a hell of a situation together and complete their limited mission. They aren't superheroes like Spartans are
The rookie became what we thought master chief was gonna be... a silent protagonist
@@Ghost_2kbungie master chief in 2 and 3 was not a silent protagonist he was reserved
Damn good man, kinda funny I just randomly stumbled onto this. Well done with the silet type line it was a good transition
Glad you mentioned that! Was pretty happy with how that bit turned out lol
ODST was part of my childhood. To this day i remember being a rookie and wandering through the quiet streets killing covenant.
Hey this is genuinely one of my facorite videos on youtube. Its like this vid was tailored for me. I love Everlong and the mixture of gameplay with live action cutscenes that sell the badassery of the ODST mixed with the horrors of war and how these are the men and women who put themselves through hell and back. That scene of the one tropper aboht to drop with a close of his face, the emotion in his eyes as he knows he is falling to his doom, yet he remains unwavered. It really does humanize these soldiers. Thank you.
(I might re edit this as I worded it poorly, I am on mobile)
Heartfelt comments like these are my favourite. I just made this video because Halo is my favourite series of all time. I never expected it to get the amount of attention it did, but seeing it resonate with so many other Halo fans makes me happy
That book was made out of spite for Bungie. We're writing our own Timeline with this one.
I feel like I moved on from halo, but god damn it every time I see anything that remind me of halo, the memories crash into me like a semitruck going 89mph with a drunk driver listening to jesus take the wheel
Didn’t even tell him about Reach??
Call me sad or whatever, but the Rookie's death has the same effect in me as it does with real people I know and lost in the same way. I can't really explain it, but some time after playing ODST, I just started to view Rookie as someone I experienced the game's events alongside, a brother-in-arms, a friend, and it's like I knew the guy personally. I always had my eye on the Recon BDU, so I stopped attaching myself to him after I got that, but...years after playing the game, finding out he died, second-hand, and in a book of all things, it made me feel guilty, like I could've been there by his side to help but because of my hubris or something, I couldn't. It's like there's a hole in my heart for him, because I remember genuinely earnestly smiling watching him uncover the mystery of his team in New Mombasa, and he helped me get through a somewhat tough time, so I feel like I owe him. Yeah, he's a fictional character, but he meant a lot to me and I hate 343 for what they allowed happen to him. Hell, he's not the only character I feel this way about, either, Sayori from DDLC elicits the same emotions as he does, because with both of them I feel responsible for their deaths. They both meet their end in similar ways, metatextually or literally. It sucks.
I miss you, Rookie. I'll see you again, someday. Take care of Sayori for me.
Nah man I get what you mean. Even with the lack of dialogue, you could sorta see some of his character based on his animations when inspecting clues or even the alternate cutscene on data hive after finding all audio logs where he's less on guard about the Engineer and even whistles like one to let it know he isn't a threat because he understands the situation that the Engineers are going through after listening to the audio logs. While we don't know much about his personality, there are very subtle moments. And the soundtrack of ODST helped me through some tough times so I can definitely understand where you're coming from
I know how you feel man just like when noble six died I felt devastated because it was my first halo game
Just saw the part about sayori and I nearly cried it brought back a lot of pain when I watched Markiplier play it
I'm leaving multiple comments because TH-cam won't let me edit comments and also I feel deeply about that feeling of closeness and the feeling that you could've done something different something more and they would still be here (I have tears in my eyes now)
Bro Rookie and Sayori together...imagine the tomfoolery! The absolute shenanigans!
This is giving me 2010 vibes. This style of meme just seems vintage, but in a good way
“What can I say, was one hell of a night” -Buck
Thank you. This, well this is a beautiful piece of human media that I will cherish for the coming years. Halo may have strayed from the Journey but you- you and all that still follow the Journey are appreciated. May the Algorithm bless you.
I appreciate the kind words. I've been a fan of the series for a very long time and I wanted to make something I'd enjoy making and I'm glad to see others like it as well. I do think Halo Infinite had a rough start but I think it's headed on the right track now and I'm pretty excited for KOTH Firefight to be added to the game later this season
He defended his friends and becomes a War hero
Rest in piece Rookie.
Hard to believe a supposed "DLC" would bring so much new content to the franchise, that would get used later
DEAN MCCOPPIN: *¡THIS ART!*
I cried watching this. I fucking love halo odst. This has been my first favorite and will never be replaced by other halo games.
This still gives me that 3am motivation everytime i watch it, just hits different.
Makes sense, that was before the human covenant war and everyone else was a civilian that was likely glassed.
Goes unreasonably hard
ok this one is officially my fav edit of the meme
that transition to the ODST cutscenes with the music still going is perfect

My past self would hate meeting me.
I kind of wish we had a Halo game from the perspective of the Marines; something where you are fighting to survive against overwhelming odds against an enemy that seems damn near unstoppable to you, but is easy prey to Spartans and ODSTs.
It would be a survival type game in my mind where you rely on med-packs to survive and have to resort to unusual tactics to beat back the covenant.
The boy: well.... It's better than living in Ecatepec, no.... *Cries*
*All it took was one mistake kid, but you went damn far.*
They should honestly make another ODST game
Rookie Died as he lived... at the mercy of the world. silent. watching. forced into hell unexpectedly by ONI, brutally hunted by the covenant alone and afraid, guided only by the dying superintendent. he discovers the secret of mombasa in data hive, and kills that damn officer. he makes it through, and saves the first of many engineers. then he makes it out of the war. then, he's pulled to the insurrection war, where when put into the hands of the friend he trusted so much, one who was given second chances by all, one who was thought redeemed... Mickey might as well have pulled the damn trigger. the friends rookie worked hard to save. to reuinite with throughout Mombasa. Rest in peace rookie. a Saint in a flock of Sinners.
Everyone needs to read New blood and Bad Blood, it’s such a good story.
this has reawakened something inside me.
If I saw that my future self had a buzz, I would know that I joined the military.

ODSTs are hands down the most BADASS super soldiers ever in sci fi.
Their not even super, their just regular soilders - which makes them even more badass and cool.
Well at least he becomes an elite soldier second only to genetically enhanced children in combat armor
Rip noble
I always very silly that the teams secret traitor who joins the terrorist is LITERALLY THEIR EXPLOSIVES EXPERT
One of humanity’s defenders in her darkest hour but a rough ending?
even though Everlong isn't my favourite foo fighters song (Don't get me wrong i still love it, my personal favourite is just something else) it still slaps so hard for this kind of thing, and the thematic elements of ODST are captured perfectly by the passion and the pain in those chords.
Also can we just appreciate that even though this is technically a spinoff, it's still just as mindblowingly epic as any other main series installment? 0:50 still looks just as amazing as some of the big moments in the main series.
I love the music it fits so well for the odsts
