    Thanks. I'm about the make the plunge and I really appreciate your comments. I have 9.99 fingers, the .01 loss, though pretty minor, made me immediately sell my old saw and I'm in the market. I will settle only for one of the Saw Stops. It is just which one. Thanks.

    Wow!! Great explanation and detailed differences between the two saws.
    I’ve always had my eye on the saw stop jobsite and this new model the Pro job site really hits a home run I’ll probably go out and get one here in the next week or so.
    Thanks again for a fantastic review it really convinced me I’m making the right purchase.
    Excited to get that saw home and start cutting some wood!!

    Hey Ron. Those extra stand legs on the side are very useful for staging material to cut, or that has just been cut, or cut off scraps, or your battery blower (for dusting off yourself or the saw or material). I have a dewalt saw with built in stand and it has a spot like this on each side. Very handy for me.

    Interesting. I have the old Sawstop but it's on the newer stand. The price of the Pro is also the price of the old saw plus the dust-collecting guard.

    Hi Ron. Thanks for the video.
    I do intend to buy this saw within the next couple of months.
    I’d like to point out though, that the improvements, though welcome, do not represent “better value for money”. The “Pro” ( in Australia) costs Au$300 more than the original - you get the extras, but you pay for them.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In the US, the Pro saw the price is the same at the original so it is a better value.

    1) Those extra bars you talk about at @1:24 also work as handles to wheel the setup saw around without needing to break it down.
    2) How do you deal with the quick raise when doing joinery? I find it hard to make small adjustments due to the aggressive gearing.

    I'm currently using a Bosch 4100 (with their stand). Its OK. I really do want the safety features and better ergonomics of the Sawstop, but what I really REALLY want is better dust collection.
    How is the dust collection on the Pro? I'm using a fein.

      2nd hand comment, but there is a video by Black Swamp Carpentry that shows a dual setup with a Y-connector by Festool that also is said to work with a Fein. It looks like it works very well.

      @@jackh.4016 Thanks! I bought the sawstop, and have played with lots of Y connectors and dust collection. For some cuts it can be pretty good, for others it isn't, but tbf those are the kind where your blade really wants to throw it out the front. However, the fence drives me nuts. It is so hard to bump just a little

    Hi Paul.. I am particular about table flatness. Have you checked your Saw Stop top with a straight edge and feeler
    gauges, side to side and front to back. My first consideration in buying a portable saw is flatness and accuracy and secondarily, and a bonus worth the additional price... the brake. Thanks.

  • @samhklm
    @samhklm 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review. They look identical to the untrained eye. Thanks for pointing out the differences. Would you say this is worth the extra expense? Understanding that having all my fingers is priceless; beyond that this saw is more robust than other contractor saws? It appears to be a bigger and a more robust saw but still portable.

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The saw itself is the best portable saw I have ever seen or used. I have owned multiple DeWalt, Bosch, and Makita and would choose the SS hands down for 3 reasons: Fence, 1 turn blade height adjustment, blase angle adjustment. BUT! even if all saws were equal, I personally would not own a portable table saw without the BRAKE. The brake closes the deal for me.

    I really enjoy your videos. I have built your total station. It’s very handy. I’m thinking about buying the Sawstop Pro table-saw. What’s the cut quality like? I would like it to be completely smooth. You know, no blade marks.

    Great video. Question, considering the jobsite pro and have built your PSS and cradle, Is the size and weight of the sawstop (113 lbs) too large to cradle and hang off table like many of us have done with smaller dewalts, etc.

    Hi Ron , Any issues with the movement in the fence on this saw , I went to purchase one today and was concerned about fence movement ,now im thinking of getting the contractor saw with the cast top and different fence as it seemed solid in comparsion ,a bit tricky to bring to ste though given the weight .

    • @TheSmartWoodshop
      @TheSmartWoodshop  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I have had no issues with fence deflection. In real world daily use I would gain no benefit from a heaver saw, but would not be willing to deal with moving a heavier saw around. Comparing the fences makes no real world differences in the production and quality of my finished projects. When it comes to the big stuff like plywood, it is time to pull out the track saw which outperforms any table saw unless you have a sliding saw with 10' stroke. These are my personal views based on my daily use in home construction and remodeling. If I were a wood worker with a static shop, I would have a different set of needs and tools to solve them. Hope this helps, Ron

    Hey Ron, thanks for all your great videos! Have you found using metric and measuring to the blade rather than using the imperial scale, a bit annoying at times? When I’m measuring to the blade with my metric tape and go to lock the fence, it will square up and change my measurement. I’m wondering if you know of a way to have the fence sit square when unlocked so this doesn’t happen. I’ve talked to SS about this but they haven’t been too helpful.

    • @jackh.4016
      @jackh.4016 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sawstop now includes in their instructions to pull the fence toward you , then lock the fence while maintaining that pull. this supposedly stops that problem. I haven't actually tried that yet, since my JSS PRO only arrived today.

      I have about 60 or so filled and 50 empty. We are in transition currently renting a furnished 1 bedroom apartment. Everything we own is in our 1000' shop with room for the Smart Woodshop Trailer, F-150, and our Prius. For Americans, I think we have less stuff than 99% of the population.

      Ron Paulk I’ve just never seen that many. Question about your workshop. I move my workshop between my basement and detached garage depending on the season. Is the workshop in your trailer adaptable to a basement. Most important to me at this point is maneuverability, dust collection (I have several Festools) and safety (thinking about adding a job site saw). Thanks in advance.
