This excerpt from the Altium OnTrack podcast features Heidi Barnes of Keysight. She explains why ferrites on a PDN have stopped being a useful tool for ensuring low-noise power in a digital system. In particular, ferrites in these applications create transient voltage ripple when a digital processor attempts to draw current into the PDN on a PCB. The solution? More capacitance!

A step by step example of a pdn design for a high speed ic would be great Zach 😊

Good suggestion, I have something in planning but need to finish it

Hi Zach, thank you for the great insight. I'm a newbie on highspeed design, can you share more videos on PDN?
I need a design roadmap especially for eliminating resonances on PCB, what kind of tools to use for it, and how to do it step by step would be great.
Your videos really help thank you.

Yeah something like a full design process for the PDN from start to finish is a good idea

    Ferrite beads are prayer beads.

Using them is like praying your design will pass EMC
