@@NoName-sz4it Here is an iconic one from a couple of years ago. Stand out because at national championship their music stopped yet they continued ... with other teams counting for them to keep the beat. th-cam.com/video/PZoP51gRsG4/w-d-xo.html
I was watching cheerleading competition in the late 90s (live on television), one of the girls caught an elbow in the mouth, and we could see her tooth go flying out, she just made a pain face, and kept right on with the routine without missing a step....that type of dedication is truly impressive
I remember one of my teammates broke her leg in the middle of our routine at a competition and carried on until it was finished. I myself was lucky enough to only ever break a finger and get concussions. I remember throwing up in the middle of a competition once though...I threw up as I was tumbling from overexertion😅 Our coaches always said unless you're unconscious you better not stop and push through the pain with a smile on your face
I've always seen American cheerleading more like gymnastics than cheerleading cause they are doing gymnastics! It's amazing but very different from other countries.
it’s because cheerleading is one of the most evolved sports. the netflix documentary Cheer does a rly good job explaining in the first episode. Also there are competitive cheer teams around the world because of how it has expanded!
Cheerleading came from the US so “American cheerleading” IS cheerleading. it would seam other countries are being lazy with it then. Also at any type of international competition it’s all like that so I not sure what you are seeing in other countries.
@@alwaystakemarktwainsadvice4269 yeah but you still cant deny even in this video a lot of countries general public dont know that cheer can be competitive and although they have competitions all over the world you cant deny how much it varies especially when you look at like high school cheer
I can't think of a cheerleading team that has half a year to practice a performance. If they do, they were learning other ones in the middle of that one and performing multiple other routines while learning it.
I heard somewhere that the most serious high school sport injuries in the US tend to be from cheerleading. Seeing the high flying flips, you can no doubt tell why.
Lmao the “I don’t think I could trust my friends” [to catch him from falling in the air from a toss] is a major mood. I would trust my friends even less because I know they drop me on purpose 🤣 unlike team mates
They should react to cheerleading fails😭. Those are scary man. But great video ❤️ I been a competitive cheerleader since I was 7 until I got into high school and got badly injured and now I’m lazy and I don’t do no sports but after watching this makes me want to go back to cheerleading man😫 I miss it. It was hard and annoying but it was fun
I really appreciate Wanjae & Giwoong sharing their thoughts and reactions! I Love Giwoong’s reaction at 4:24, especially when he said “anything is possible “! He has a great attitude 👍! Wanjae & Giwoong are Great! This was fun to watch!
I used to Cheer and it is for sure hard training, especially the top teams. That's Cheer Athletics and Cheer Extreme! They're really good ♡ Glad to see this!
Ok, male cheer leaders aren't really the "core". The team as a whole is the core. Men do throw higher and are able to catch the flyers that are thrown higher. They are just like any other position, part of a team.
Talking about trusting your team, when my daughter was in cheer she was often used as a support for the flyers (being lifted). If someone were to intentionally not support someone out of animosity, they would be kicked off the team instantly and they would likely have a hard time getting on another team because word would spread. It takes years and tons of money to build these skills which would all be worthless in the blink of an eye.
Allstar/competitive cheer is year round but we only get a finished routine maybe like a month or so before competitions start. Sometimes we don’t even get music until like 1-2 weeks before. Otherwise we’re just training our skills and trying to level up for next season
I use to be a flyer and have fallen plenty of times when I first started out 😭. I used to do one man stunts a lot also. But I had to stop because I damaged my leg. Now my leg just randomly gets swollen. But cheering is very fun.
You should check out the junior competitive teams. You think this is impressive, but when you see tiny little girls no taller than half your size throwing those stunts and pulling double fulls, it literally makes your jaw drop! Competitive cheerleading is VERY competitive and they start them really, really young. It's just as intense as competitive gymnasts at that age, it's incredibly impressive what they can do!
Ahh cheerleading, brings back memories when my flyer blew her knee out as we're competing. The music stopped i was so confused then I saw my flyer crawling to the front of the mat SOBBING crying. The competition let us go again. So we had to re work our routine backstage in LITERALLY 5min & I had to learn how to base in 5min,before that I've NEVER based before ever in life & all my right side motions I now had to do on my left . *THE FUCKING PRESSURE I ENDURED!* 😂 our rival team came out & cheered us on during our redo. Good times 🥰
3:26 the movie "cheerleaders" are a very toned-down version of actual cheerleading. they prioritize acting abilities than actual cheerleading abilities, so when someone gets their idea of cheering from movies, they'll be surprised.
Stunting requires a great deal of upper body strength. Male cheerleaders are known for providing the strength necessary to make stunt groups more successful and increase the level of skills which can be executed. An example of this stunt is a 2-2-1, where two stunt groups hold their flyers, facing in, at prep level and a third flyer is placed in the hands of those flyers and held waist high. The bases supporting this stunt are lifting the weight of approximately one and a half persons. These bases must have exceptional upper body strength. Males, in general, are known to possess a high level of upper body strength, and without male cheerleaders, it is unlikely that a team would be able to execute such skills.
Cheerleaders do their routines for the crowd more than the team. The team doesn't get to watch as much, because they are playing (or in the locker room at halftime). The team can hear the crowd, though, so the cheerleaders are trying to keep the crowd's energy up.
Our male cheerleaders were in weight training with all the other athlete's. Most could bench press their body weight. they had powerful sholders and upper body strength.
Cheerleading was only done by male students for football games at universities, starting in the late 1800s. Female cheerleaders didn't come about until the 1920s.

I was a cheerleader briefly in middle school and the jump they do where they jump and do a split in mid air and touch their toes is called 'A Russian'. Why? I dunno. But it take's a skilled person to do that. I could do it back in my young days, but I'm almost in my 40s now so I don't know if I could now! LOL!

There are also "cheer" teams that have no association to any sports team... they are the sport team themselves and compete against other cheer teams.
I really wanna see one of those performances

well technically practices start in the summer and comp season starts in winter. that’s 6 months, but we aren’t working routines the whole time
Right not even highschool competition cheer teams have that much time to practice. So imagine the regular competition cheer teams
They really thought we get over 6 months to practice 1 routine😂 I wish
exactly more like a month and that’s it.
A month at the most sometimes 😂
