Well it turns out the director Yoshihisa Hashimoto Is not only a programer on Sonic advance 2 but he made the Hedgehog Engine. Sadly he left Sega for Square Enix, and Sonic Unleashed is the last Sonic game to be made by sonic team USA and since then Sonic game are now low budget. Thats two Developers that Sega lost. Why because all Sega cares for arcade sales and pachinko machines. 3d Sonic so far is about as dead as Metal Gear. The good news is that Freedom Planet comes pretty close to the passion that Adventure 2 had

Sonic Generations was basically the reason I bought a PS3 (could have gotten an Xbox 360 but who wanted to pay for online pay? Not 7th grade me.). To think that was 10 years ago.... damn. It really was the gateway to me enjoying consoles, since before that I had a PSP, DS, GBA, and Wii, and honestly found myself bored with the Wii, save for New Super Mario Bros.

Man it's crazy how I straight up grew up with this channel. I remember being in 4th grade right in the middle of my sonic phase and watching the sonic generations review. Years later, and Johnny has become my favorite game reviewer on this site. Thanks for the decade of entertainment man.

@Ahmed Malaki my first experience with Sonic Adventure 2 was on the game cube. I think it's also on the PlayStation store if you have a PS Now membership. It's also on Xbox as well, and on PC. Though I recommend the Xbox, Playstation, and PC versions because they're in HD unlike it's Dreamcast and Gamecube counterpart.

I think what makes 2D Sonic's speed feel so good is that there _are_ moments where the game slows down for a minute or two at a time. You get a sense of what a "normal" platformer's speed feels like for a bit, so that it makes the moments where you're practically outrunning the screen feel even faster than if the whole game was just a rocket on a salt flat made of butter.
I just can't play Sonic 1. I'll play Green Hill and then shut it off. I just get so bored even in Spring Yard and Starlight. Loved the approach for this one, Johnny. Despite how rocky this franchise can be both in and out of the games, I'll always care about this blue weirdo.
@@gars129 I can understand that for Hydrocity Zone specifically if you're new to the game. I remember getting extremely frustrated with Sonic 3 when I was first playing it on the Wii VC. The crusher wall in act 2 of Hydrocity will get you if you don't have a decent handle on the physics. Eventually I just got a better feel of how to control Sonic and have no problem with it these days, but it took some learning and patience.
Honestly Sonic 1 is the only classic Sonic game that I would never go back too. I beat it once a few months back and that is the only time I will ever beat it. Any of the others I could replay anytime with no issues. It layed the groundwork and should be remembered for that, but I honestly think it's aged the worst since all the other games improved on it.
I'm kinda similar, though in my case I only ever revisit Sonic 1 when playing a character swap hack so I can bypass some of the more annoying sections of the game.

This will always be my fondest memory regarding Sonic: WAY back in 1st grade, I met a kid who was drawing a pretty decent drawing of Sonic. I thought that was the coolest thing I've ever seen, introduced myself and asked what he was drawing. That was the first time I've ever seen Sonic and when I met my very first friend.
Honestly, for as... interesting as the Sonic fandom can be, genuinely wholesome and heartwarming stories from our past such as this ultimately make it all worth it, at least for me.

I absolutely love the music to Scrap Brain Zone. When you hear it you know shit is about to get real! Yet it doesn't sound obviously "evil" like Bowsers Castle does. Its appealing, yet twisted, like Robotnik himself.

Honestly, for as... interesting as the Sonic fandom can be, genuinely wholesome and heartwarming stories from our past such as this ultimately make it all worth it, at least for me.
That was a very wholesome story, I’ve met a couple of friends via the Sonic series as well.

I absolutely love the music to Scrap Brain Zone. When you hear it you know shit is about to get real! Yet it doesn't sound obviously "evil" like Bowsers Castle does. Its appealing, yet twisted, like Robotnik himself.
I swear I had the biggest Mandella effect moment when I got a notification about this. I’ve followed Johnny since 2014. Watched almost all of his Vs videos. And now I just realised it never once occurred to me he never reviewed any of the classic Sonic games.

@@Roxas2099ZX No, Sega hired them to make Mania, Mania wouldn't have been what it was without Iizuka. Also most of these people had history with Sega like the Whitehead ports. It's not a fangame or even close.

I'll never forget how I found your channel, randomly stumbling upon your top 10 Crush 40 songs, and then binging all the old sonic reviews, then the mario reviews, then the metroid reviews, etc. It's been over a decade now, but I can still say you're my favorite content creator on TH-cam today, so keep going strong Johnny. Yup, she was reimagined as a agent of C.L.I.P., a GUN taskforce in the Post-Genesis Wave world. Unfortunately, she only got to interrogate Snively before the book got canned.
On a further note, the bandmates were also in Archie Comics as members of Mina Mongoose's band, but I don't think they ever had any lines.
