X-transbots may have won by 5 points, but to me the three things Takara got a point for, are the three most import qualities (Build, Transformation and Cost). If I can't play with a transformer or have to worry about breaking it and wasting 200+ dollars, then I might as well just hang a picture of Ultra Magnus on the wall. Thank you for doing this comparison man, you are the best.

Bruh you can barely play with the hastak magnus. Only thing you can do with it is swing it around like a retard in static poses while with xtb you can actually pose it and all that. Build quality is debatable, like the takara has maaaayybe stronger plastic but way more hollow, while xtb has a much denser build. And yeah transformation is harder but that's the fun of it. You get more time with it.

Yes, takara Magnus may be a brick. But its a good kind of brick that won't disintegrate if you so much as breathe on it wrong.

Had the Takara, was never really happy with how limited it was or how it looked. Got the XTB, and now keep my Takara Magnus in truck mode permanently.
Gotta say I've had zero QC issues with my XTB Commander Stack (did have a slight one with the Takara, a peg that doesn't quite fit on one of his legs), and he's a solidly built boy.
The articulation and proportions are phenomenal on Commander Stack, and he looks incredibly clean with basically no kibble. He's a real centerpiece in my display case, facing off against FT Quietus. Very happy with my purchase.
Love reviews like this. Wasn’t too sure but then I watched the review and now I’m sold! I will however keep my takara copy because it’s still a good figure. XTB did it again!

Yeah. Last price listed at TFSource is over 380, and basically 250 at TCP. Maybe he was feeling bad at how bad TT was getting smashed tho 😂.

Interesting comparison. Takara's offering definitely is showing its age. Ultimately, the X-Transbots fig is better, but not enough to justify my trading up from the official.
My Stack s on the way…keeping my Takara for truck mode…..and pre-ordered FT version…..
After having it in hand, the X transbots definitely beats the Takara one, only grape is the white paint flaking very easily. I don’t know (and I quess X transbots either) how Fanstoys makes the best strong paint.
But after this release X Transbots is definitely in my favourite list (awesome they changed the facesculpt after fans reactions, the new face looks awesome).
I definitely look forward to the XTB - I'm waiting for the youth repaint, but it's a must have for me.
I've never had the official MP-22, but I did have the THF KO a few years ago and it left a sour impression... But I do love that classic look.
The deciding factor for me is that the Youth XTB will look perfect alongside the toy colors FT Galvatron I own.

Comparison review video always a good insight for understanding what the collector options are. I’ll most likely will keep XTB in robot mode and THF Magnus in alt mode. But I wonder if the heads are swappable 🤔 be cuz I like THF Magnus head better. Thanks again TMReviews for the video.

I got the THF improved KO MP Magnus for $75 (tighter armpits and no buttflap), and I'm very happy with that. G1 toy Magnus was a chonky brick, so the Takara mold is already a wonderful godsend as far as I'm concerned. I never really liked the character much anyway, because of that brick quality. So in that light, it's plenty articulated and feature-filled enough now, for me.
And I haven't broken it yet, even after several years. That XTB seems like a flimsy disaster waiting to happen. Acceptable with a minibot or carbot, but not with a premium TF.
I don’t like how X-Transbots is shorter than Takara.

When it comes to price, wouldn’t you want to look at the fact that MP 22 came out a while ago so inflation with technically make him cost more money than XTB?
How much inflation did 7 years cost?

Hmmm. I was thinking about getting this and was about to buy this. That QC issue just breaks it for me. I don't mind my MP Ultra Magnus. It's still a great MP figure. I parts swapped the buttflap with a KO version and makes it a little better.
I am not a big XTB fan. QC is a very important factor for me and almost all of their figures have bad QC. Since Fanstoys has announced a Ultra Magnus, I will wait for that. They are the best company for MP's imo. Thanks for sharing. Great video

I’m not sure if you’ve seen this but it goes through the issue with the shoulder joint coming loose and the best way to fix it. Might be with a watch. It helped mine.
Yes I watched it, I wasn't able to fix it using that video unfortunately and since it's not my copy I couldn't risk breaking it
Obviously I think the XTB is way better than the MP. But that transformation still makes me want to pass on and wait for another company to step in. (Also passing on FT since I personally don't want a partsforming magnus)
In all fairness, I can only think of a few figures that look great in both modes and has an easy transformation, but even then, that would be because the base design allows for it (e.g Grimlock is simple enough so that it's easy for both modes to look good. For Stack to do what it does, the transformation was never going to be simple.
@@adrianli7559 I def see your point. Obviously designing transformers takes mad skills. But I still think Stack had some unnecessarily complex steps. Suppose it had 200 transformation steps, I feel like it's at least possible to get down to 180?
Also higher parts count -> harder to assemble -> more likely to have tolerance issues or breakage. So XTB sometimes makes it harder on itself (e.g. Kup) by taking a more is more approach (which is super impressive, don't get me wrong)
If Takara did this now it would be well over $300
The Tamara version is big and looks exactly like he did when he first appeared on the movie screen BIG! The XTB version reminds me of how he looks in the daily cartoon.

I sent this one back to it's owner, but I believe you can get parts for it
The screw you need to remove and the washer on it need to be sanded down... the built in washer is off center for some reason... so the screw doesn't fit properly which makes it up screw. I sanded mine down and it is completely fixed.

I know it's subjective but I think they're pretty close to a tie in toon accuracy. The Xtransbots is just too skinny and narrow in the bottom of the torso. Also the Xtransbots head seems large compared to the torso. It's like Magnus went through a little bit of a cutting season and lost some girth.
I’ve seen enough. I’m definitely getting the XTB. I’ve been looking for a movie bot to go with my MMC Saltus.
You'll love him, he's awesome. A very clearly improvement to the original, despite the transformation.
Was tempt to get XTB when i 1st saw. But after the review, i feel XTB is really fragile. I rather wait for fanstoys and see how it goes. Nice review. Thanks that's really help.

Not at all surprised by the result.
The real question is, is it worth $200 to upgrade? The figure is certainly worth it (it would seem), but as someone who rarely doubles up on characters, do I really need those improvements in my display?

Of corpse XTB wins on sculpts en articulation, but I'm surprised they still didn't got the transformation fun. After all, it's an upgrade mold, not starting from scratch like for an unreleased character.
For some people, durability and stability is not a factor. For me, those factors are paramount.
I look at the hip skirt, and the right shoulder. My verdict is this: fail.
I understand some people care about toon accuracy, articulation and paintwork. For me personally, those are factors, just not the most important to me. I care about durability and stability more than anything.
Are they compatible with Perfect Effect PC-17 Prime/Magnus or even the newest version of it too.
I love X-Transbots mini figure. My favorite episode ONLY HUMAN season 3 episode 23 i think... with Cobra Commander. But id like a set of 100% scale posable figures of themselves to sit inside .... well, of themselves 😂
Yeah... I don't think I'll be pulling the trigger on him... I just prefer the old style of MPs that were a blend of G1 and a far more detailed look like the original Magnus and Sideswipe. They just *look* more interesting than what's basically a 1:1 from a cartoon. Plus I really wish they'd stop doing voice effects in these... It's just added weight and a thing that I'd wager most people don't care about. And light up eyes and weapons are real close to that complaint. Too many do light up eyes and don't paint them so they look dead as Optimus in the movie unless they're lit up.
Oh the price side, I had to dig around a bit but I found I paid $160 for my HasTak Magnus.

Re-watching this, the question isn't vs, it should be too upgrade or not to upgrade. Xtb obviously looks better, but is it that much better to upgrade? Don't don't know how you could measure that objectivity.
That's an interesting way to look at it, would be completely subjective tho, I almost always upgrade 😂

The X-Transbots looks like it's a good robot mode display only.
Displays well in both modes. Getting there is challenging bur once you get it. It's a breeze
Of course x is going to win its more modern, it's not even a fair comparison.. Takara is still a classic in my opinion.

I'm torn actually. I like the front view of the Takara over the X Transbots, but the lack of waist articulation is a killer. I would pick the Takara over the X Transbots if Takara had a waist swivel. But I'm not sure I'm willing to pay the price tag on X Transbots 🤔
I can’t believe Mp is 7 years older than XTB and still has less quality issue than XTB
the only thing that's keeping this from being 100% cartoon accurate is the lack of faux wheels on the side of the feet
I had always thought takara ultra magnus was pretty much a perfect figure until I saw this one.
He and the first Starscream are actually two of the worst Masterpiece figures. The best is Soundwave followed by the second Megatron. I still like him though as I bought both him and Delta Magnus. He's chunky but he's built like a rock.
@@saysoun752 It's kind of bizarre how Takara has allowed Fan Toys and XTB to just come in and dominate them in quality.
I still think the KO version of MP22 is better than XTB. Even with the design upgrades/changes on the XTB I still don’t think it’s enough to take away how good MP22 is.
MP22, if it hadn't been for the stupid butt flap, I'm pretty much happy with him. Also, I still prefer MP22 window chest (and silver paint face) over XTB solid chest. The alt.mode, I like the little detail where MP22 has that white color on the front of the trailer and the grey license plate within the red bumper. For XTB Stack, the 2 main things that impress me most is the clean robot back and the alt.mode truck bed covered up. I'm not an articulation guy since I just display my figures in their neutral stand position, so this is not important for me. Also, I'm not into complex transformation....XTB Stack transformation is scary...too many moving parts and small pieces.

i love the takara but it's 7 years old. I am keeping it in the "open damn it" mode but the xtb has had 7 years to refine Magnus and I like most of XTB's products so I am just bias.
I just got the THF ko of the MP-22 Magnus. So far, I love the look and feel of it. It doesn't look or feel like an engineering masterpiece work of art, it looks and feels like a high-end toy, and I love that about some of these, which is also the case with the DX-9 Blitzwing mold.
I'll most likely get the XTB Stack, too, at some point, but I think I usually prefer the MP scaled ones that have a more ultra complex 80s toy vibe to them. Another example is I prefer TT's MP-13 Soundwave to the FansToys or RobotHero (or was it Robot Paradise? I can't remember) version of Soundwave. Most people seem to love the FT version of Soundwave better aesthetically, but I own both and I definitely prefer the TT Soundwave in pretty much every regard. The only things I really prefer more on the FT Soundwave is the eject feature for the second cassetticon in our boy's tape deck chest, and the variety of accessories to make it look like either the toon or toy version. Other than that, TT's MP all the way.
Man i was hoping for a better xtb product, i guess its Ft UM i hate the partsforming and it looks like a brick , but will have to see, great comparison

Im really surprised X-Transbots won with your fans so highly! To me, when I think of Ultra Magnus, I think the Takara version is clearly the winner, but when I think Magnus, I think of him as this powerful bulky robot! I’m on the fence of the X-Transbots version of Magnus. He looks good, but there are a lot of build issues I’m finding questionable. 🤔

@@mechgouki7999 I kept seeing that on certain truck comparisons. Didn’t happen here in this review but I have noticed some where the cab looks like it wants to come apart and I feel that one of the arms and hinges in the auto mode may stress some of the plastics if they’re model grade. He does look good, but I’m still waiting for something in the mid range of this and Takara’s offering.
Don’t get me wrong though. Stack looks pretty good, but not as powerful as Takara’s MP! 🤗

Fyi, the KFC version was CITIZEN Stack, while the XTB version is COMMANDER Stack. Citizen vs. Commander.

FT couldn't think of great engineering for Magnus so went with parts forming. XTB all the way
Also the big difference is the x transbots had 7 years after to make it. So I would hope in 7 years they could make an improvement or two lol.
I think even when the transformations are easier, that adult collectors don’t have the time to sit around transforming them over and over, but rather once a year to switch up the display is more realistic.
