The NBC News sounder that introduced hourly newscasts on NBC Radio in the late 1970's (and heard at 5:06 in this clip) was also used during the same period by NBC Television for news bulletins that interrupted regular programming.

The hourly tone at this point (heard between 5:04 and 5:05) was :00.7 sec. (700 ms) in duration, and was roughly ~750 Hz. Can't tell if it was sine or triangle, given all the processing and transmission artefacts. NBC's time tone durations over the decades ranged from 250 ms to 300 ms to 400 ms to 500 ms, and then this. Its frequencies ranged from as low as 687.5 to as high as 810 Hz.

Thank You for posting this! The WTC was still so NEW in '76, and the Twin Towers of the WTC became THE icon of NYC in the 1970s (The somewhat cheesy "King Kong" remake MADE it so! LOL!) God bless everyone affected by the horrific events of 9/11/2001. I have never been in either iconic building, But I had been between them many times and was in awe that two almost identical structures at THAT scale could EVEN exist. As a "kid" I thought: "This is America, WE went to the MOON, and WE built THIS!" - Sadly, that's probably WHY it was the target. 😢

Maybe the traffic in New Jersey isn't that difficult on most Sundays!
(Remember that July 4th, 1976 was a Sunday)

50 rounds of 105mm cannon (M101?) Legend says that BOOM is STILL echoing in Manhattan today.
