I said exactly the same, after my jaw came back to it's natural position, after it dropped living my mouth wide open and all the flies and insects of this world, thought they discovered a real black hole that leads back in time, even though it was just my mouth open!
Can't remember any other scene or any event in my life, be the reason that my jaw dropped down like that... What Im doing here, words can't describe that scene. However, I was shocked that much, because it has happend in my life too.
I had a really tough day back when I was a soldier, which made me cry like a small boy. I turned my head up with my eyes more wet than ever and asked God, with a humble way, to either show me just a sign, that He's there watching me going through that, which of course wasn't fair, since I didn't cause it.
I can't say in public what He did, because it was way more unbelievable, than what you see in this scene. I bet my life, my everything and I don't care, for money, or anything esle in this world. because He exists! This is not the real life, this is just the place that souls are created. Devil, may have unleashed his dogs and it is the last days, as they are described by Christ Himself in the Apocalypse, the days we are now, but I don't care!!! The real life is AFTER death, problem is, that this determnes where you'll end up, so, choose wisely, before it's to late. May God bless you all!!

For as long as I live I will never forget seeing this movie as an 8-year-old boy for 50 cents, two quarters my mother handed me, on a Sunday afternoon. I was so touched even as a child by this movie and when I left a Florida rain had clean the air and the ground and the sun was out and everything was sparkling clean, as was my heart at that moment. Although I had trouble following the Lord until the last few years, I'm 61 now, I never forgot the movie or that scene and the scene following it when Jesus is being led to Golgotha to be crucified. You couldn't have made this story up it just wouldn't have made sense. Thank you Father for always being there for me especially in the last few years. God bless everyone in this time of godlessness across our land and in the world. If there is no God what difference does any of this make. God forgive us for the sins of America and give us strength as we face the enemies of the Bible in our land.

peterm3964 No ancient Mediterranean civilization ever used convicts or slaves as forced oarsmen. However, in the seventeenth century the Mediterranean galleys used convicts. A French galley slave who survived his sentence explained in his book that when they were taken to Marseilles in chains to serve in the galleys, they begged for water to some Christian ladies and nuns who were coming out of a church and they refused to give them the water, saying: "where they are taking you you will have all the water you want" referring to sea water. This is the Christian piety that the movie has invented.

My all-time favorite scene. How applicable it is to all of us. Here is a man who has been wronged, mistreated, had everything including his family taken from him, dying of thirst, in total despair and all he had to do was what any of us need to do, simply cry out "God help me." His falling to the ground is beautiful symbolism because at that point all he could do, all he needed to do, was look up. The Christ scene was magnificent. Without even uttering a word again proving how actions speak so much louder. You see Christ's love, compassion, gentleness, his providing, and protection. Christ gave him what he needed and so much more. Notice the symbolism of the water. Christ never went back to the well to refill the cup yet Ben Hur drank way more than that little cup could hold. It was never going to run dry. God so often gives so abundantly.

I saw this scene at a second premier of Ben Hur at the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara Ca. in the Spring of 1971. I adored the movie, but this scene especially had a massive impact on me.
After Charlton Heston died, I remember reading an interview when he said that the night before the shoot of this scene, that he'd been so frustrated not knowing how to play the scene that he'd gotten himself into a drunk wipeout. He said he felt completely helpless on how to act it, but I believe it was that total sense of helplessness that helped him capture the exact emotion he needed to convey the scene perfectly. Charlton Heston and Lew Wallace, the author of the novel the movie was based on, through the manly and morally upright characterization of Juda Ben Hur, gave me, a then fifteen-year-old boy, the confidence that "real men" follow Jesus. Within six months I'd given my life to Christ. It's been over fifty years now, and I've never regretted that decision.
And P.S. My best friend, Steve Francisco, was with me that night. He gave his heart to Christ about six years later.

I've always felt this scene is Heston's best acting ... and some of the best you'll find anywhere. His agony and expression as the water is taken from him and passed along is truly remarkable. A Masterpiece of Filmmaking (William Wyler) and Acting (Charlton Heston). There are those who think Heston didn't deserve an Oscar for Ben Hur. I've always thought they were wrong. Heston may be a bit wooden in other films, but he played this difficult role perfectly. Above all, I can't think of anyone who would have been better suited for it. Or can you really imagine, let's say, Lancaster, Douglas, Curtis, Hudson, Newman or Brando as Ben Hur? Not me. Who could have played this part?

A perfect scene, well acted and presented. Christ's face is never shown to the audience. We know it is Him, the Lord of Lord's and the King of King's, but we are left to our imagination what His face looks like. Not only do we see Christ's ultimate authority and power on display by defying the Roman Centurion and giving water to Ben Hur, but we also witness the empathy of love of Christ to us as individuals. Yeshua strokes Ben Hur's hair, and touches his face and fingers. Sadly, a movie like this one would NEVER be made in today's poisonous caldron of Woke Hollywood. Perversions, hatred, violence, and disgusting behavior is celebrated in today's movies, but never the true God.

The first time I saw this motion picture and especially this scene, I remembered Michelangelo's painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, where God is depicted reaching out with His finger to Adam's limp finger to give him life. I would like to think that the director of the film had this very scene in mind when he filmed it. It just blew me away. Of course, it was beautifully acted by Mr. Heston, whom I continue to admire to this day. I wish more of these Biblical epics would be made today instead of all the TRASH being made.

It is nothing but trash. Things that no one needs to see to know how vile it is for the human mind and spirit to take in. We aren't supposed to view trashy movies. It's worse than consuming poison. Keep your eyes away from it? You aren't learning anything but dung and you already know what that is.
