This scene is a wonderful counterpoint to the previous clip, where Christ gave Ben Hur the water. It's an incredibly powerful and moving moment in a wonderful movie.

One of the five greatest movies of all time. Enobled to even greater heights by this glorious scene. Christ's Love and Forgiveness are so all encompassing that he drives the anger and hatred from Judahs heart. Even better, at the end of this classic film, Judah holds Esther and whispers to her, "Almost at the moment he died I heard him say, Father Forgive them. For they know not what they do." "Even then?" I love how Jesus takes a moment to look at Judah, as if he wasn’t expecting the kindness he showed to that dying slave so long ago to pay off like this. Like, he literally is God; beyond all the human fear and pain he has chosen to endure, he knows everything is gonna end well. He doesn’t really need Ben-Hur’s help in any way. But he takes that water anyway, as a sign of acknowledgement and respect for this man’s deep devotion and compassion. It’s his way of saying “well done, son”.

Ben Hur for me is still the best film ever made. It’s so emotional, compelling, heart-breaking, vicious, violent, and uplifting at the end. Personally I’ve never seen a better film. Admittedly it does have a wonderful story as a back-drop, and because it’s set in Biblical times it will never date, but it’s still the best I’ve ever seen.
When i was growing up in the early seventies, we did not have dvd s or vhs at the time. Every Easter I used to watch this with my mom and dad when it came on tv. Cried my eyes out in certain scenes every time i watched this. This is imo one of the best movies ever. Charlton Heston was wonderful in this. The scene where his character is so thirsty and the soldiers will not give him any water, and Jesus comes and gives Judah Ben-Hur water was great. I read Mr Heston's autobiography and he said the man who played the soldier was an extra on the set and had not really acted before, but he did one heck of a job in that scene. One of the best scenes in that movie.
Charlton Heston's facial acting is wonderful: Ben-Hur knows there is nothing he could've done to stop the prophecy, and even felt honoured to have partaken in it.
On one hand, you're right. On another, we all crucified Christ on account of our sins being upon Him. We are all responsible for His death. The good news is He died for all of us, and rose again, and if we accept Him as Lord and Savior, He will forgive us and change us to be more like Him.

Thats a good depiction, because its in Ben Hurs reaction. The reaction of a man to seeing Jesus eyes. This is why no one could come close to depicting Jesus correctly. The depth in his eyes just as a man, being Perfect, much less His spiritual depth. I would imagine it would be like looking toward the bottom of the ocean which cannot be visually penetrated, except in this case 'eyes of love', that cannot be fully fathomed, but leaving a definite emotional impression.

Rome wouldn't want it to be known, because it would hurt their power. The Jews because they rejected Jesus, because it would hurt their power. And yet there were Christians before those writings. Wonder why???
+chrisizme2 I have PhD in philosophy and ancient history and sadly you've just shown your total ignorance. Texts records and accounts from the time overwhelmingly support there was a man called Jesus who had following and was put to death under Rome. Pathetic ignorance.
I can only imagine sledgehammer blow in Judah's chest when he realized that he knew that man.....from so long ago....and under similar circumstances.....with a cup of water.....how did he not shriek in anguish when he recognized him....?
Jesus gave Judah water, but Judah could not give Jesus water in return. Just like how God spared Abraham from sacrificing his only son Isaac, but God could not spare His own. For God's purposes, Jesus had to walk His path alone and unaided. We may want to repay Him, but we can't. Thankfully, He is aware of this. Judah, it was the thought that counted.
Just watched this movie twice in the past 2 days. Such a beautiful movie. So well acted. Yanks at all the emotions. I love how every element of the movie affects the next.

Two things, Judah's face when he recognises the man who once gave him water. And the shot of his hand holding the gourd as Jesus is led away - a reverse mirror of the previous shot showing Jesus holding the gourd and Judah being the one led away. Powerful, so powerful.

it was a nice gesture for ben hur to do that, but comfort would not help Jesus die sooner. The same time He died was the same time the high priest in the temple killed the lamb and used its blood on the altar. so thanks but no thanks for the water, Jesus was saying, so thank you Lord in Heaven for what you've done to save us.
This scene is moving and powerful as was the scene when Christ gives Ben Hur the water when he was dying of thirst. He showed him His mercy. The Roman soldier was confused and didn’t understand the idea of mercy. My favorite scene is when the Roman soldiers mock Jesus by placing a Crown of Thorns firmly on His head. His forehead starts to bleed from the thorns. And Christ is bleeding almost like he’s crying tears of blood. This moment always brings me to tears. Oh, how they degraded and mocked Him. They laughed at Him and said Here’s your Crown! King of the Jews! Look at Him Now! And He just took it all silently. And He later said after His Crucifixion and before His death, Forgive them Lord! They know not what they do! What they didn’t know was that He is the King of the World forever and ever! Amen 🙏🏻!

Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
LOOK HOW THEY TREATED JESUS.... THIS MAKES ME CRY EVERY TIME. THANK YOU LORD FOR LOVING A SINNER LIKE ME...
.
When we help the poor and downtrodden we feel the presence of Christ in our hearts.
I can only imagine sledgehammer blow in Judah's chest when he realized that he knew that man.....from so long ago....and under similar circumstances.....with a cup of water.....how did he not shriek in anguish when he recognized him....?
Haunting music, whispering voices, everyone somber. Holy Week and Passion, indeed.
And brother, if I may add, "backed by action, when if any opportunity appears."
Agreed!
Beautifully said...and how true.
True, true
Jesus tells us that we must endure till the end to be saved.
It’s amazing how this movie is still a spectacle and is still a great movie after all these years.
This is THE BEST FILM ever!!!!!
👍 Totally agree
Blasphemy against the most high this film has nothing to do with god
@@billycrenshaw1472 you are a fool
I completely agree with you. it is the greatest film ever made. It is about the only movie that is equal in quality to the novel where it is taken,
I cried with this scene, one of my favorite movies that I watched with my family.
ben hur with charlton haston is the greatest masterpiece of all. music soundtrack and acting brought tears in my eyes its a fabulous film.
The Mighty Lord Jesus Christ is so awesome beyond my comprehension!
I've always said that heston's acting in the scene is some of the best I've ever seen period, his reaction to the water is beyond realistic
Just watched this movie twice in the past 2 days. Such a beautiful movie. So well acted. Yanks at all the emotions. I love how every element of the movie affects the next.
Dieser Film bleibt für ewig eindrucksvoll und emotial, die Leistung der Schauspieler unvergesslich
I remember watching this as a kid, seeing the tears roll down the face of my father like it was yesterday.
Most inspiring movie I have ever seen!!! I had a a lump in my throat the whole time! I wanted rush out and bear the cross for Jesus in that scene❤❤❤
I was blessed to see this picture with my parents as a child and I've never forgotten it. Thank Heavenly Father for the Atonement and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. John 3:16-17.
Jesus I love you, thank you my Lord, my King and my God for saving me... 🌸🌸🌸
Daisy Ramirez jesus forgive me for my sins, John 3:16, I'm very sorry lord I'm not perfect forgive me for my sins
Scarface92511 Are you sure Jesus uses TH-cam?
mikelheron20
In heaven,probably:)))))))
Amen sister. The Lord saved me as well.
@@mikelheron20 i know a jesus who uses youtube but everyone pronounces his name "hey zeus"
Seeing this makes one appreciate what little suffering we go through in life & to count our blessing & thank Almighty God for everything .
Two things, Judah's face when he recognises the man who once gave him water.
And the shot of his hand holding the gourd as Jesus is led away - a reverse mirror of the previous shot showing Jesus holding the gourd and Judah being the one led away. Powerful, so powerful.
There will never be another Ben-Hur like the 1959 version
The Epic of Epics,
When cinema was not the greed of exhibitors, but art in its grandeur. A film that thrills the sixty-three years.
Loved Charlton Heston in all his movies, always a standout performance.
love this movie: everything, music, acting, the story...
Amen what a great scene of our Lord's passion and the beginning of Judah Ben Hur's conversion🙏
I CANT IMAGINE, looking into his eyes.
One of the most moving scenes in cinema history.
AAAAAAHHHH!!!WHAT A SCENE!!SO VERY POWERFUL INDEED!!SEEN THIS EPIC MORE THAN MILLIONS OF TIMES!!!!FROM(U.K.)
I felt shivers in my arms and I am agnostic

Mitchell Winks ???
Sorry meant for MelanicDisaster!
Made me cry..
Love this movie
When Ben-Hur prayed to the LORD JESUS to help him, the LORD JESUS come to him and gave him water while showing Pity, concerne, and compassion. In return Ben-Hur showed the LORD JESUS the same thing he received when he was in need.
Classic! Reminds me of The Good Old Days As A Kid Having Sunday Dinner!🥰
1:32 the expression of Charlton Heston is Priceless
this film makes you feel. its a triumph in drama love and conflict. the music is beautiful. and it moves me everytime. i know its only theartre but it really strikes a note
This scene made me cry. Good deeds come full circle
Hollywood changed so much...and not to the better side !
Of curse that the worthless prince of this world has to counterattack
through his depraved & perverted media, & wreak the maximum havoc,
for his time is short,
before being gaoled in chains in darkness in the bottomless pit for 1,000 years.
Still an absolute master piece of a film
And the greatest portrayal of our lord ANNNNNMD you dont even see him which is how it should be and the music that accompanies him
Agree.
Just one second when he touched his hand and my eyes already filled with tears....
THANK YOU, LORD CHRIST.
it was a nice gesture for ben hur to do that, but comfort would not help Jesus die sooner. The same time He died was the same time the high priest in the temple killed the lamb and used its blood on the altar. so thanks but no thanks for the water, Jesus was saying, so thank you Lord in Heaven for what you've done to save us.
+Andrew LeDuc Yes, but it would be such an honor to try to help our Lord that day...
+odalvarado amazing honor
I had tears in my eyes and a lump in my throat when Jesus returned the favor with water.❤😇😢
Я был мелкий лет 10 смотрел этот фильм с восхищением...один из любимых фильмов..
Toda vez que passa assisto! Choro até! Esse sim é um clássico.👏💋❤
Is hard avoid the tears with this scene...😭😭😭
Mi amigo, No es deficil, es impossible!
That scene brings tears to my eyes
Amen 🙏🏻!
If we're all faithful to Christ we will one day hopefully look into his eyes our beloved father. In heaven God bless us
'You truly are the King of Kings'
very great emotion ,,myheart has broken so much especially when I see these looks between Jesus and Ben Hur .
In Mexico, every year, during Holy Week, they present this movie on TV, Ben Hur and The 10 Commandments. I always see them, greetings from Mexico City.
En México, cada año, en semana santa, presentan esta película en TV, Ben Hur y Los 10 Mandamientos. Siempre las veo, saludos desde la Ciudad de México.
I have been watching the film since 1968... my favourite film of all times ❤
This movie, Gone With the Wind, and The Ten Commandments 1956 are my favorite movies of all time.
& a course Cleopatra 1963
oooh now I desperately need to watch this film! Just a scene out of context and I'm crying my heart out!! It must be amazing!!
The second best scene in a truly iconic movie.
I agree and it's not words or feelings when you have that power to understand what God has to say.
Esta pelicula es para nunca olvidarse yo no me canso de verla.Tiene un exelente argumento y unos muy buenos actores.
One of my favourite religious movies since I was a child. I love that the flow of Jesus' blood mixed with the storm rain cures Ben Hur's mother and sister of leprosy 🙏🕊️❤️
I know this man!
Powerful scene. VERY POWERFUL
Ben Hur giving Jesus Christ water and Then Jesus Christ giving Ben Hur Water! Very powerful The Passion of The Christ 2004
movie was very powerful!

The two films have a powerful relationship.
"Ben Hur giving Jesus Christ water and Then Jesus Christ giving Ben Hur Water!"
It was the other way around; Jesus gave Judah Ben Hur water first, THEN Ben Hur gave water to Jesus.
I never get tired of watching this movie. No one even comes close to Charlton Heston nowadays
