Thanks Bjorn! Perfectly consistent voltage sag observation: traditionally for all but plaid cars tesla uses energy density cells whereas kia (audi&porche&bmw...) uses power batteries. Power batteries feature higher cathode&anode grid permeabilities bringing less internal resistance and lower power density (higher power output&input). That is for example why fat e-tron battery wights 700+ kg (when teslas 90 and 100 packs are at 500-550kg, 75 pack is ~420-440kg).
That’s really interestingly- presume that’s part of the reason the M3 is 1800kg whereas Audi/Kia/bmw/Porsche are all 2200kg odd and up? I had thought it might be due to gigacasting but if battery packs are that much heavier too ...
@@gothmog2441 I don't know whole story, but in general yes: partially tesla weight efficiency is better, partially battery strategy is different. According to Munro live, "heritage" automakers struggle with compromise solution targeting module-based designs (such as to make low mid and high size battery packs using the same chassis, or to use the same plateforme to cover B, C and D class).
Bjørn, This is a great format for EV powertrain tests, with way more interesting information than any other EV review I have seen. Kia did a great job with this car, and providing a pro driver and allowing OBD data collection for your test. Your explanation of the importance of consistent cell temperatures was spot on. This is helpful education for car enthusiasts to better understand how EV’s work “under the hood.” Another reason to keep cell temperature consistent is to help maintain cell balancing. When discharging [or charging] the energy draw from [or add to] each cell will be unequal if their temperatures vary. Battery pack designers have told me that their first priority when designing the thermal management system is to keep temperatures consistent for all of the cells. Maintaining the correct pack temperature to maximize range and charge and discharge power [speed] is their secondary design consideration.
The energy needed to be added from 0-100 is 1/4 of what is needed to 100-200 due to the energy equation being Ek=1/2mv^2. The squared v makes it 4 times more energy. As such, 3.5s to 100, with perfect grip, should give 100-200 at 13s. The reason for 0-100 being slower than what 100-200 indicates is probably grip, there is now way to get 400kW to the road at low speeds, as the wheel torque then will be way more than the tires can do.
It's not grip. The Tesla plaid can accelerate much much quicker at low speeds. It is more likely that the limitation is the motor torque in the 0-100 range. The taycan has a two speed gearbox to get the fast 0-100kph. Another factor could be that the inverters are not precise enough to avoid wheel spin at low speeds. RV Simons did a video accelerating different cars in the wet and the Tesla's were the only cars which didn't have wheel spin. This isn't a Tesla plug btw, this Kia is astounding.
The limitation for 0-100 kph is motor power at launch and low speeds. Not torque. The motor speed is directly tied to wheel speed and will not reach max power until reaching the motor’s “corner speed.” Tire traction limits can also be a limitation, especially for vehicle launch.

But the model s plaid never gets to the top speed of 320km/h which the company claimed... 23k rpm is just theorical capacity of carbon sleeve motor I guess.
the problem is not that it can spin 20.000 rpm, the problem is the expansion of the rotor which would damage the engine over longer periods... What happens if you drive the EV6 for several month multiple times to that speed? ModelS had alot of issues with there motors cause of permanent highspeed driving ( the plaid might? fixed it) we will know in 3+ years.

Others: We reserved a race track for the whole day to test this car
Germans: Lets go on the Autobahn
700volts, 450amps! The numbers are mind blowing. That's enough to power a small factory for a bit. Overtime, the efficiency will improve, I hope
EV6 is a great car. If it would have been a bit bigger, i would have bought it.
Over 20k rpm is insane. What motor do they use? Is it from Hyundai?
Hyundai group have a in house motor division(Hyundai Rotem) which use for high speed train.
Yeah the operating speed at 300kmh and already developed the next generation train going 430kmh. And these weigh a few hundreds of tons not just two ton toys.
EV6 GT uses Permanent magnet synchronous motor.

배터리 온도를 한번 보시죠.물론 테스트 환경 계절이 여름은 아니지만 현기 ev bms가 신의 경지입니다.그것도 이만 알피엠에서 ㅎ
Great review and looked like fun. Wouldn’t want to drive like that all day though, too stressful especially that quick lane change! Yeow😅👏
