The BIGGEST elephant in the room concerning EV's is the fact that people are prosecuted for driving using a mobile phone, yet you can play with your infotainment system and apparently that's perfectly legal and OK to do so!
That is not exclusively an EV issue - that is a modern infotainment problem. And it's a terrible idea to have complex touch screens when you need to have tactile buttons/knobs that can be felt without eye contact. When will manufacturers reverse the touchscreen tide?

I have no idea how any of the car manufacturers have gotten away with their infotainment systems. It all seems to have started with satellite navigation systems and then they added more and more features to it. Technology is a wonderful thing, but right now, it's probably the biggest health and safety issue in cars today.
Couldn't even tell you were full of Christmas cheer for the conclusion, you're a true professional! Having driven the lower powered versions of both this and the Ioniq 5 it is hard to see why you would need more power in what is ultimately a family vehicle. With that being said everyone loves an M5 or RS6 so I don't think this will struggle to find buyers.
This is one of the best TH-cam car channels, the reviews are great, the barnfinds and the episodes with Shakey Byrnes on the bikes are a real joy to watch. This channel should already be over 1 million subs based on the quality.
I’m with you Johnny I would buy the GT LINE S dual motor if I could afford it. But have a rear drive single motor GT LINE S on order since February this year and here’s hopping it arrives early next year. My belief is 4.8 seconds to sixty is well fast enough and keeping a decent range and ride that the dual motor gives. Good review.
I got to try the 320hp GT Line AWD and thought that would be all the power you’d need on public roads. More is always nice but that was a rapid overtaking machine and devoured twisty back roads, massively impressive car. Would love a go in the GT but you surely wouldn’t be missing out that much in the lower powered models
300hp is more than enough for a giggle on the road. Unless you have a slightly fragile ego and dont want people beating you off the line at traffic lights then there really is no need for the extra power. To be honest you are still going to beat most other cars with the GT line anyway.
The fast throttle response and weight of EVs make them even better at overtaking than the 0-60 times suggest. They have tons of torque. 40-60 times are very good. We really are getting to the point where the more expensive cars are getting too powerful. It's spoiling it for all but the track! And there they often need carbon brakes (dead expensive and not nice for on road) to slow down down with all that power!
Great review. Fully understand your hesitation about whether the GT works as a....GT. I've owned a regular AWD for over a year and found it plenty fast enough, and it handles surprisingly well for a big EV. And that extra range makes transcontinental holiday trips a breeze. The 321 bhp EV6 AWD is indeed the real Grand Tourer of the range.
Yeah, good Article in Ars Technica recently by Johnathon Gitlin saying basically the same. All electric cars, give or take the odd exception, have way more oomph than most people need/want in a daily driver so always go for the less expensive, generally longer ranged, version to save money and get a more usable real world car. EV6 not EV6 GT, base model RWD Taycan rather than AWD Taycan Turbo, Polestar 2 without the performance pack, etc.
Was at a Christmas family do here in Aus, and EV cars came up with some people that aren't silly, ok not full on car nerds, but had to once again get in an argument with them about no you don't have to replace the batteries every two years. It is crazy, they hear that once and will never forget it. It was interesting to learn that Tesla's 0-60 times are done with a rolling start too. But on a final note, Box of oranges, 3 from them later... (It would be superb if they all had red hair too). Cheers for the vid.

My ev6 awd gt-line is expected to arrive in Poland at the end of January. Was thinking about getting the gt for a while but finally decided that 325 hp is enough. Your review has confirmed it. My parents have had Jaguar I-pace for over 3 years and it is such an underrated vehicle, in my opinion it drives even better than ev6 awd.
I think it was brought out to just be a thing, you know to sort of show the big boys that we can be like you. But, in reality, it's going to be the everyday models that will sell in big numbers. There's no denying it's a thing to behold, but if it were my money, I'd be buying the GT line AWD variant. Yes, it's not as fast or sporty, but it's a more than able Grand Tourer, which is what GT always meant, it's only an 80's thing when the GT badge became a sporty (oft uncomfortable) hot hatch or mid-sized variant. Again, another excellent review, with smooth and crisp delivery, and an enjoyable watch. And as ever a truly professional approach, even when you've enjoyed a little bit of Belgian hospitality.
Great video again Jonny. I agree with comments about the infotainment system but that’s a wider issue. I need to ask though, for my own sanity, why the UK boot sticker kept switching from side to side? Definitely couldn’t tell you were “well oiled” at the end.
Great review Jonny. Agree with your conclusion. I personally don’t see the point of performance EVs, but longer range, lower powered and comfortable family-sized EVs - yes please.
It's like performance SUVs. You see some guy in a huge X5 M and you know he walked right past other cars that are faster in a straight line, faster on the track, cheaper, lighter, have better handling, better ride, better looks.
Your posting of the range (at 1:20) as 263 miles combined and 339 miles city really stood out to me because I don't recall seeing this very much with BEV reviews or data -- but yet it seems extremely important. We all know that EVs do much better when going under 45 mph than over 45 mph, and it stands to reason that, with all the regen braking at slower speeds in urban driving, the ranges will be much higher. Why isn't this stressed more often, like it is with all ICEVs (i.e., highway vs. city vs. "combined" mpg)? Most people will be driving the vast majority of their miles with BEVs in slower urban traffic, not on long road trips.
Amazing review, Jonny. I’m between cars at the moment, and am considering an EV6. I previously had a Tesla Model 3 Performance, which was an absolute weapon, but the build quality and fit/finish was poor. (Nowhere near the quality of Kia or Hyundai.) I honestly believe that the Korean and Chinese brands will be dominating the EV space in the next 5-10 years.
Why do you think the Koreans and Chinese will have it over the Japanese or Europeans in 5-10 years? Their general quality of non-EV vehicles isn't up to Japanese or German quality so once the others continue to tip their focus to EVs there's no reason to think it'll be any different.
I’ve just traded my Ioniq 5 in for a Model Y RWD. The build quality of the Hyundai was awful, rattles from everywhere, and a cabin full of cheap feeling, hard plastic. The Tesla feels like a Bentley in comparison.
@@DiscoFang I would argue that Hyundai/Kia (but not Ssangyong, GM/former Daewoo and possibly Samsung/Renault) are ahead of Europe and Japan already in terms of perceived quality/supplying what customers actually want. The Chinese are coming on in leaps and bounds because they have such a huge domestic market and, possibly for political reasons, their financial costs of developing and tooling cars are so low allowing very short model lifecycles and lots of competitors. I also think that Tesla, with ageing product poorly designed and built, are in serious danger getting left way behind the competition from established vehicle manufacturers
I was trying to convince my Car Guy Uncle over Christmas to get this. I failed (for now), since he finds even Autos boring and the range is a concern. In Australia you can drive this far and still be in the same city. He is an Australian Muscle car fan but with the death of the industry he has nothing to replace it with. You can't get V8s in Australia any more. This matches the power of his HSV. We will see what Kia does with an electric sedan in the future. The Stinger (which has also been discontinued) was where a lot of Aussie Muscle car fans went despite it only having a V6.
You see, now I always ignore the _'full charge'_ range and just look at the _20-80%_ range instead. A much more helpful indication of how convenient and practical the car is.

Sadly, that day will likely never come as my working days will be long over before such a vehicle, second-hand, would be in my price range. A lesson I learned from my youth, when I had a stove-hot 3 cyl 750cc motorcycle capable of 165mph. I would pass everybody and disappear into the distance, and then be passed by all my mates whilst I was in the petrol station filling up. A bit like sport EVs really…. So the key is not going nuts on the loud pedal, because for many time is money.
I'm fundamentally pro EV, but every video/article I view that involves charging seems to report issues with public chargers either not working, or charging significantly slower than advertised for no known reason. I wonder how long until these issues are mainly sorted out?

I do believe running costs over time may help, but still? It seems like a status symbol. A Clio 182 with updated suspension - like what Harry gas on his special edition- would be an amazing driver's car. I reckon people just want others to know they have some cash?
You're wrong about the charging speed: The Ionity station can (theoretically) deliver up to 350 kW. The fastest car on the road today is the Taycan which can get 280 kW. The EV6 can "only" take up to 240 kW though.
Incorrect. Lucid can accept 300kw. Egmp cars an also accept up to 250kw in very limited situations, but you’re mostly correct that they’ll normally charge at 240kw peak.

Another really good review Jonny. My only issue with new EVs is that they're getting heavy, and they're too fast for the average driver. I'd like to see them scale back the power and weight so that they aren't 2.5/3 tonne killing machines.
Its really only the gt version that's bonkers. Now that they have discontinued the light trim the base rwd ev6 is 225 hp and the awd version is 320. Those are healthy numbers but we are still only talking about golf gti and golf r levels of power.
And the cobalt mining issue needs addressing. That is terrible! And it's mostly for the wealthy buying the latest EVs. I like really he idea of really small EVs with small range that can charge super quick anywhere, and a regular 2nd hand car for long joiurneys.
Am I the only person who thinks a 577hp car is utterly pointless on most roads? Most people will never be able to exploit that sort of power on a damp B road or the school run. I'd rather have an ev with say, 150hp and decent boot space with 400-500 mile range.

The small front trunk/boot in the EV6 is enough for the “granny lead.” I also keep a small battery booster up there. Front trunks on EVs are something that internet car reviewers make a big deal about and Tesla owners thump their chest about, but in the real world they really aren’t particularly useful. I have a Model 3 and the front trunk is almost always empty, aside from the “granny lead.” I’ve never once wished to have a larger front trunk in my Ioniq5.
I had a look at one of these this very morning in the car park of Leclerc here near Limoges. Looked very nicely made and finished but long and the rear end was very wide.
Great review. For the 45k price range I would go for the EV6 or Ariya for sure. For the 60k price range I would look somewhere else though. I dont need to get to 60mph in 3.5 sec that often in my life
Very nice car. Good looking,and fast. Way out of my price range,and talking of range,that’s the killer question for this car and any other EV. It’s all about range and charging times,and availability of charging points. Great for day to day driving for what I do most of the time. But what about those four times of the year when I pack my car full of all the stuff I need,and take off to visit relatives in the West Highlands of Scotland , a 415 mile journey that takes nine and a half hours and then I’ve got to ask them nicely if they can spare a few electrons for my return journey. I think some of these car companies are trying to run before they can walk. Great review as always Johnny,sorry about the rant!
Great video. Agree its too fast for a family car and I would choose the slower variant. I feel the same about the Volvo XC40 and C40 with the dual motor. Over powered for family cars that weigh so much. That’s why we opted for the single motor variant of the Volvo C40, which does 0-60 in a perfectly adequate 7 seconds or so. We also have a Tesla Model 3 LR which has crazy acceleration that I’ve used to its full potential about twice in 3 years. My wife, kids and dog get a bit arsey with me if I even use a fraction of the power. In other words, in the real world of family transport these super car levels of acceleration are fairly pointless.
PS, if I was going to buy an EV I think it would be this one. Gorgeous styling and Even in the lower powered one all the performance you need. hats of to the kia, to go from the mk1 Rio to this in a generation is incredible!!
These "shudders" you are experiencing is not unknown for Porsche drivers. It's the tires which have very stiff sidewalls and the way the suspension is set up. My previous 981 Cayman with 20 inch PS4 tires (same brand and type the EV6 GT's 19's) had it when maneuvering, depending how you behaved. My current 718 Spyder with Cup2 doesn't have it, even if the suspension is even tighter. BTW: welcome to Flanders!
Another excellent review thanks Jonny! I do agree with you in that it seems a bit of an OTT thing to do with an EV6, but a part of me loves that they did it. Would I cross-shop a Taycan and an EV6? There’s a little temptation there, but ultimately no. The Taycan sits in a different class in terms of looks and luxury imo. It is definitely a hard-sell model variant, but I still think they’ll sell a couple. Maybe some sales executives that want a bit of spice in their company car? I know of one such fella, as it happens, who has done exactly that. Have yourself a good Christmas and New Year chap 🎄 and I look forward to the next one, next year! 🎆
Actually the GT is in very high demand already, and it’s hard to get your hands on one if you haven’t ordered it quite a while ago! The normal versions of the EV6 are very sought after, and a lot of people all over Europe are still waiting for cars ordered more than a year ago. KIA is not able to make EV6’s (only produced at one factory so far) fast enough… and they could sell way more than they produce. I don’t know how many GT’s KIA are planning to produce each year (2000 - 2500 are going to the US annually), but I reckon for the next couple of years they - at least in Europe - will sell almost all of them before they hit the dealers. I ordered mine back in May 2021… and I’m still waiting… but word is, that I will get it before the summer of 2023. 😃 😊
Yes I think weirdly brand name doesn’t matter as much to consumers when buying an EV especially when companies are treating them as a higher quality product. I’ve seen a lot of people who would never drive a Hyundai or Kia normally desperately looking for the GT and Limited cars, even settling for lower end trims because they like them so much.

But drive both cars (Taycan and EV6),and they’re not in the same league for actual driving enjoyment and on-road or track refinement. However, the EV6 GT is a great offering and kudos to them for even releasing it.

@@kempez yeah anyone with porche money will likely stick to the porche but Hyundai and Kia are attracting a lot of people that are usually not in their customer base. The rarity of these cars adds to it at the moment. Interest might decrease a bit once they become more common, still great options though. I know my Ioniq gets head turns and thumbs up everywhere I go, something I’m not used to and a bit uncomfortable with tbh lmao.
Remember: the EV sets the battery charge rate. If you haven’t or can’t pre heat the battery it won’t charge as fast. It’s nothing to do with the rapid charger. Lots of miss information out there on this.
I wish manufacturers were more open about this on the in car displays. It shows 92kw, but doesn't tell you why. It would nice if it said "charge rate limited by battery temperature" or "charge rate limited by SOC". It would also be good to know if it was the car or charger. The car might be happy to accept 200kw but the charger is only offering 100. It's like they don't want you to know what is "wrong" so they can point the finger elsewhere
I think you need a bit of an update on the I-PACE. 4miles/kWh is pretty easy now, it's had software updates that have improved things. The two things that put me off the Ev6 is the rear end - it's hideous, and the lack of memory seats on the GT. I share my EV with my wife so there's always a different person driving. Memory seats are a must for us.
Why do we never see pence per mile figures for away-from-home charging? I expect where is important but it is part of the ongoing EV experience and as such useful to know.
Good commentary but it would be a much more relaxing watch ( and a much safer ride for your fellow road users) if you kept both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road, like a decent driver.

I agree Jonny. No one needs 600 bhp in a family shopper. Its madness, and just undermines what an EV is supposed to be all about. If you have more power at your beck and call, you will likely use it increasing the frequency and consumption of electricity in the process....a large percentage of which is still generated by non green power stations. The regular model would be fine, plenty snappy enough, and with a better range too.
But, then again, it's not up to you to decide what people can or cannot have. I don't tell you to not eat meat nor do I tell you to not have long or short hair....so basically.....butt out

I think the biggest problem with a mega power EV like this is that if you're going to constantly be using it in the low or mid power modes to improve the range (which lets face it: the EV6 is a cruiser and 300bhp is more than enough, so you realistically will do this), then you've essentially wasted £12k. I like the look of the EV6, and were I in the market for a premium EV SUV it would definitely be in the shortlist, but as you say Johnny, it makes much more sense to buy the cheaper version of this for the family/long cruises, and then use the £12k saving on something fun for yourself...
EV 6 GT Line ... RWD ... the one with the heat pump ... is the way I'd go ... best of all worlds; enough power on the roads, great range, and decent efficiency. Yes, it is a car that jumps out at you on the roads ... there are two in my village and they look great. ... But I don't have that kind of money ... so I went with a different EV. Ah well, maybe in a few years when I trade in my current car.
Then buy a cheaper one like the MG4 then........ all the mainstream manufacturers have started for the top and worked down rather than do the affordable one's first

What I learned in my z06....650 HP was enough...then I got used to it and ended up with 1000 HP....still wanted more.

I'd prefer sub 300 mile range with crazy performance than giving kids asthma whilst driving an oil burner.
Was at a Christmas family do here in Aus, and EV cars came up with some people that aren't silly, ok not full on car nerds, but had to once again get in an argument with them about no you don't have to replace the batteries every two years. It is crazy, they hear that once and will never forget it. It was interesting to learn that Tesla's 0-60 times are done with a rolling start too. But on a final note, Box of oranges, 3 from them later... (It would be superb if they all had red hair too). Cheers for the vid.

My ev6 awd gt-line is expected to arrive in Poland at the end of January. Was thinking about getting the gt for a while but finally decided that 325 hp is enough. Your review has confirmed it. My parents have had Jaguar I-pace for over 3 years and it is such an underrated vehicle, in my opinion it drives even better than ev6 awd.
More expensive as well.

I think it was brought out to just be a thing, you know to sort of show the big boys that we can be like you. But, in reality, it's going to be the everyday models that will sell in big numbers.
There's no denying it's a thing to behold, but if it were my money, I'd be buying the GT line AWD variant. Yes, it's not as fast or sporty, but it's a more than able Grand Tourer, which is what GT always meant, it's only an 80's thing when the GT badge became a sporty (oft uncomfortable) hot hatch or mid-sized variant.
Again, another excellent review, with smooth and crisp delivery, and an enjoyable watch.
And as ever a truly professional approach, even when you've enjoyed a little bit of Belgian hospitality.

Great review Jonny. Agree with your conclusion. I personally don’t see the point of performance EVs, but longer range, lower powered and comfortable family-sized EVs - yes please.
It's like performance SUVs. You see some guy in a huge X5 M and you know he walked right past other cars that are faster in a straight line, faster on the track, cheaper, lighter, have better handling, better ride, better looks.
Kia should've named this car the "Sprint" not "GT", with the dual-motor EV6 being the "GT". Then it'd all make sense.

Your posting of the range (at 1:20) as 263 miles combined and 339 miles city really stood out to me because I don't recall seeing this very much with BEV reviews or data -- but yet it seems extremely important. We all know that EVs do much better when going under 45 mph than over 45 mph, and it stands to reason that, with all the regen braking at slower speeds in urban driving, the ranges will be much higher. Why isn't this stressed more often, like it is with all ICEVs (i.e., highway vs. city vs. "combined" mpg)? Most people will be driving the vast majority of their miles with BEVs in slower urban traffic, not on long road trips.

Why do you think the Koreans and Chinese will have it over the Japanese or Europeans in 5-10 years? Their general quality of non-EV vehicles isn't up to Japanese or German quality so once the others continue to tip their focus to EVs there's no reason to think it'll be any different.
I’ve just traded my Ioniq 5 in for a Model Y RWD. The build quality of the Hyundai was awful, rattles from everywhere, and a cabin full of cheap feeling, hard plastic. The Tesla feels like a Bentley in comparison.
@@DiscoFang I would argue that Hyundai/Kia (but not Ssangyong, GM/former Daewoo and possibly Samsung/Renault) are ahead of Europe and Japan already in terms of perceived quality/supplying what customers actually want. The Chinese are coming on in leaps and bounds because they have such a huge domestic market and, possibly for political reasons, their financial costs of developing and tooling cars are so low allowing very short model lifecycles and lots of competitors. I also think that Tesla, with ageing product poorly designed and built, are in serious danger getting left way behind the competition from established vehicle manufacturers

I was trying to convince my Car Guy Uncle over Christmas to get this. I failed (for now), since he finds even Autos boring and the range is a concern. In Australia you can drive this far and still be in the same city. He is an Australian Muscle car fan but with the death of the industry he has nothing to replace it with. You can't get V8s in Australia any more. This matches the power of his HSV. We will see what Kia does with an electric sedan in the future. The Stinger (which has also been discontinued) was where a lot of Aussie Muscle car fans went despite it only having a V6.
Tell your uncle Jonny has several V8 muscle cars, but he still loves EVs day to day. It's all about the offsetting
You see, now I always ignore the _'full charge'_ range and just look at the _20-80%_ range instead. A much more helpful indication of how convenient and practical the car is.

Once again, a great review, Jonny. How I wish I could expect to afford a large-ish EV minivan with a 300 mile range when it eventually comes out. Sadly, that day will likely never come as my working days will be long over before such a vehicle, second-hand, would be in my price range. The downside to being a professional musician in the waning days of my working life. Oh, well. I live vicariously through a plethora of EV-focused channels and publications.
Feel you man. But we don't need all these fancy things that cost 60K or whatever. A great life can be had without them. Everyday cheap cars are miles better than they richest had not that long ago. A lesson I learned from my youth, when I had a stove-hot 3 cyl 750cc motorcycle capable of 165mph. I would pass everybody and disappear into the distance, and then be passed by all my mates whilst I was in the petrol station filling up. A bit like sport EVs really…. So the key is not going nuts on the loud pedal, because for many time is money.
I'm fundamentally pro EV, but every video/article I view that involves charging seems to report issues with public chargers either not working, or charging significantly slower than advertised for no known reason. I wonder how long until these issues are mainly sorted out?

I do believe running costs over time may help, but still? It seems like a status symbol. A Clio 182 with updated suspension - like what Harry gas on his special edition- would be an amazing driver's car. I reckon people just want others to know they have some cash?
You're wrong about the charging speed: The Ionity station can (theoretically) deliver up to 350 kW. The fastest car on the road today is the Taycan which can get 280 kW. The EV6 can "only" take up to 240 kW though.
Incorrect. Lucid can accept 300kw. Egmp cars an also accept up to 250kw in very limited situations, but you’re mostly correct that they’ll normally charge at 240kw peak.
That GB sticker jumping from left to right is some sort of simulation confirmation I'm sure... Or I've had to many Christmas drinks... 👍🏻

We had one of these in the body shop the other day. Cracking thing, but gosh it's big, much more so than I expected.
Another really good review Jonny. My only issue with new EVs is that they're getting heavy, and they're too fast for the average driver. I'd like to see them scale back the power and weight so that they aren't 2.5/3 tonne killing machines.
Its really only the gt version that's bonkers. Now that they have discontinued the light trim the base rwd ev6 is 225 hp and the awd version is 320. Those are healthy numbers but we are still only talking about golf gti and golf r levels of power.
And the cobalt mining issue needs addressing. That is terrible! And it's mostly for the wealthy buying the latest EVs. I like really he idea of really small EVs with small range that can charge super quick anywhere, and a regular 2nd hand car for long joiurneys.
Am I the only person who thinks a 577hp car is utterly pointless on most roads? Most people will never be able to exploit that sort of power on a damp B road or the school run.
I'd rather have an ev with say, 150hp and decent boot space with 400-500 mile range.

The small front trunk/boot in the EV6 is enough for the “granny lead.” I also keep a small battery booster up there. Front trunks on EVs are something that internet car reviewers make a big deal about and Tesla owners thump their chest about, but in the real world they really aren’t particularly useful. I have a Model 3 and the front trunk is almost always empty, aside from the “granny lead.” I’ve never once wished to have a larger front trunk in my Ioniq5.

I had a look at one of these this very morning in the car park of Leclerc here near Limoges. Looked very nicely made and finished but long and the rear end was very wide.
Great review. For the 45k price range I would go for the EV6 or Ariya for sure. For the 60k price range I would look somewhere else though. I dont need to get to 60mph in 3.5 sec that often in my life
Very nice car. Good looking,and fast. Way out of my price range,and talking of range,that’s the killer question for this car and any other EV. It’s all about range and charging times,and availability of charging points. Great for day to day driving for what I do most of the time. But what about those four times of the year when I pack my car full of all the stuff I need,and take off to visit relatives in the West Highlands of Scotland , a 415 mile journey that takes nine and a half hours and then I’ve got to ask them nicely if they can spare a few electrons for my return journey. I think some of these car companies are trying to run before they can walk. Great review as always Johnny,sorry about the rant!

Great video. Agree its too fast for a family car and I would choose the slower variant. I feel the same about the Volvo XC40 and C40 with the dual motor. Over powered for family cars that weigh so much. That’s why we opted for the single motor variant of the Volvo C40, which does 0-60 in a perfectly adequate 7 seconds or so. We also have a Tesla Model 3 LR which has crazy acceleration that I’ve used to its full potential about twice in 3 years. My wife, kids and dog get a bit arsey with me if I even use a fraction of the power. In other words, in the real world of family transport these super car levels of acceleration are fairly pointless.
Can't remember the last time the petrol pump was throttled because it was cold!
PS, if I was going to buy an EV I think it would be this one. Gorgeous styling and Even in the lower powered one all the performance you need. hats of to the kia, to go from the mk1 Rio to this in a generation is incredible!!

These "shudders" you are experiencing is not unknown for Porsche drivers. It's the tires which have very stiff sidewalls and the way the suspension is set up. My previous 981 Cayman with 20 inch PS4 tires (same brand and type the EV6 GT's 19's) had it when maneuvering, depending how you behaved. My current 718 Spyder with Cup2 doesn't have it, even if the suspension is even tighter. BTW: welcome to Flanders!
Another excellent review thanks Jonny! I do agree with you in that it seems a bit of an OTT thing to do with an EV6, but a part of me loves that they did it. Would I cross-shop a Taycan and an EV6? There’s a little temptation there, but ultimately no. The Taycan sits in a different class in terms of looks and luxury imo. It is definitely a hard-sell model variant, but I still think they’ll sell a couple. Maybe some sales executives that want a bit of spice in their company car? I know of one such fella, as it happens, who has done exactly that.

Actually the GT is in very high demand already, and it’s hard to get your hands on one if you haven’t ordered it quite a while ago! The normal versions of the EV6 are very sought after, and a lot of people all over Europe are still waiting for cars ordered more than a year ago.
KIA is not able to make EV6’s (only produced at one factory so far) fast enough… and they could sell way more than they produce.
I don’t know how many GT’s KIA are planning to produce each year (2000 - 2500 are going to the US annually), but I reckon for the next couple of years they - at least in Europe - will sell almost all of them before they hit the dealers.
I ordered mine back in May 2021… and I’m still waiting… but word is, that I will get it before the summer of 2023. 😃

Yes I think weirdly brand name doesn’t matter as much to consumers when buying an EV especially when companies are treating them as a higher quality product. I’ve seen a lot of people who would never drive a Hyundai or Kia normally desperately looking for the GT and Limited cars, even settling for lower end trims because they like them so much.
@@Termnath I do agree in terms of Kia and Hyundai absolutely knocking it out of the park. But drive both cars (Taycan and EV6),and they’re not in the same league for actual driving enjoyment and on-road or track refinement. However, the EV6 GT is a great offering and kudos to them for even releasing it.

@@kempez yeah anyone with porche money will likely stick to the porche but Hyundai and Kia are attracting a lot of people that are usually not in their customer base. The rarity of these cars adds to it at the moment. Interest might decrease a bit once they become more common, still great options though. I know my Ioniq gets head turns and thumbs up everywhere I go, something I’m not used to and a bit uncomfortable with tbh lmao.

Remember: the EV sets the battery charge rate. If you haven’t or can’t pre heat the battery it won’t charge as fast. It’s nothing to do with the rapid charger. Lots of miss information out there on this.
I wish manufacturers were more open about this on the in car displays. It shows 92kw, but doesn't tell you why. It would nice if it said "charge rate limited by battery temperature" or "charge rate limited by SOC". It would also be good to know if it was the car or charger. The car might be happy to accept 200kw but the charger is only offering 100. It's like they don't want you to know what is "wrong" so they can point the finger elsewhere
I think you need a bit of an update on the I-PACE. 4miles/kWh is pretty easy now, it's had software updates that have improved things.
The two things that put me off the Ev6 is the rear end - it's hideous, and the lack of memory seats on the GT. I share my EV with my wife so there's always a different person driving. Memory seats are a must for us.
Why do we never see pence per mile figures for away-from-home charging? I expect where is important but it is part of the ongoing EV experience and as such useful to know.
Good commentary but it would be a much more relaxing watch ( and a much safer ride for your fellow road users) if you kept both hands on the wheel and both eyes on the road, like a decent driver.

No one needs 600 bhp in a family shopper. Its madness, and just undermines what an EV is supposed to be all about. If you have more power at your beck and call, you will likely use it increasing the frequency and consumption of electricity in the process....a large percentage of which is still generated by non green power stations.
The regular model would be fine, plenty snappy enough, and with a better range too.
But, then again, it's not up to you to decide what people can or cannot have. I don't tell you to not eat meat nor do I tell you to not have long or short hair....so basically.....butt out

What a monster, I love it.
I think the biggest problem with a mega power EV like this is that if you're going to constantly be using it in the low or mid power modes to improve the range (which lets face it: the EV6 is a cruiser and 300bhp is more than enough, so you realistically will do this), then you've essentially wasted £12k.
I like the look of the EV6, and were I in the market for a premium EV SUV it would definitely be in the shortlist, but as you say Johnny, it makes much more sense to buy the cheaper version of this for the family/long cruises, and then use the £12k saving on something fun for yourself...
That GT 0-60 test looked a little too close to going head on into the passing car - stay safe Jonny!

EV 6 GT Line ... RWD ... the one with the heat pump ... is the way I'd go ... best of all worlds; enough power on the roads, great range, and decent efficiency. Yes, it is a car that jumps out at you on the roads ... there are two in my village and they look great.
... But I don't have that kind of money ... so I went with a different EV. Ah well, maybe in a few years when I trade in my current car.

Inflation is the reason,equivalent of £23500 20 years ago,you get alot more car these days so in reality not that bad.
