While the feet transformation may be unfortunate, the designer, Sam Smith came out and talked about the design process of the ss figure and said they switched their philosophy of focusing on vehicle mode accuracy instead focusing on robot mode accuracy. And aside from the colors (which honestly I prefer imo) I think they succeed overall.

If I owned the old voyager galvatron and the studio series galvatron, I would keep the old one in truck mode while the studio series one in robot mode.
The older one has a better body shape & truck look, plus it has the blue. Older one also has the black sun visor completely painted above his front windshields. Unlike studio series one. But the newer one is nice with the transformation & the silver.
Older one is the jam its to me the better bot in vehicle ofcourse also as a bot its got bettercolor and shape better not soo square like the studio series !!!!older wins this time!!!!
While I know you don't care much about weapon storage, I do find the storage on the new one really cool, as the missile launcher can also go on a peg under the front of the cab between the wheels, and the cannon arm can go in the back to fill in a little of the hollowness between the legs. I do still wish they'd make the feet fold just a little flatter somehow, but overall, I'm still very impressed with how they managed to pull off a transformation like this at the voyager size. It also just feels really really nice to have a full set of Voyager Movie Megatrons now!
Im gonna be honest, i thought the Studio Series was on the left and the Original release was on the right. The studio series looks like a 2 step changer and its really flat. The og looks pretty good considering.
2014 AOE Galvatron holds a special place in my heart. At that time, I didn’t have a Galvatron figure in my collection, and even though a lot of people were bashing the design and figure, I was so, so excited for him. I ended up custom painting my original, but also bought another one used that I like to put in the original one’s box, as seeing him unpainted takes me back to being hyped for him :)
One thing I liked about the original is that you could literally put stuff in his backpack. I don't really like backpacks but if you can actually have them use it AS a backpack, that's a whole different level.
My brother and I have had transformers since the Beast Wars era, those were our first, followed by the other Beast Wars series, then the 2,000 RID series, followed by the Unicron Trilogy. Then the 2007 movie series, then pretty much everything else. We never used the instructions since day 1. We always figured them out like puzzles because that was always part of the fun for us. Seeing if we were smarter than the engineering. By the time we got masterpiece figures, mainline or third party, they didn’t stand a chance. Now I own over 600 figures from all eras of transformers. Because I intimately familiarize myself with their molds, without the instructions, I know every piece on every figure, because I have to take the time to figure out what every piece does, since I’m not using the instructions. So I can transform any figure I own blindfolded.
yo I'm starting to dig these Transformers figures, I love the movie versions. Still keeping an eye out for the Leader Class Starscream, these guys you got here look pretty badass as well

A part of me wishes they made this guy Motormaster or Scourge instead of Galvatron. Some of the concept art that featured a more Optimus like head design looked pretty cool. What we got... it feels like everything I don't like about the Bayformers designs packed into one bot. Not saying it's bad or that's impossible to like it, I just don't.
This might be a tad late but the reason you couldnt get the ss cab to close properly when transforming was because the head isnt turned around. makes a world of difference and is even a step on the instructions
Well looking back at the character in the movie - he was very dark with the silver highlights... I don't think this really quite captures that but they tried
Tbh I much prefer the old one, it just looks so much better. I also kinda like the bucket backpack, 4:43 , because it reminds me of the old 07 Voyager Optimus, I think it was a voyager I've only ever had it as a hand-me-down so I don't know for sure(the movie one prime with the flip out driver gimmick.)

I have an old F-104 Starfighter toy I'm pretty tempted to send to you. It's accurate to the 3 3/4 scale, so you could possibly stick a Star Wars action figure into it
I LOVE Unique Toys Challenger, but at almost 2 times the price I couldn't justify Nero. I don't collect Third Party, Challenger is my only one. Maybe if Nero becomes cheaper somehow.
I haven’t acquired Nero yet myself, but pretty much every other movie masterpiece, Unique Toys had made, I’ve collected. Peru Kill/Age of Extinction Lockdown, Challenger, Dragoon/the Last Knight Megatron, La Hire/the Last Knight Hotrod, which was UT & DX9 collaboration. I love them all, they’re all soo good. They just put Hasbro figures to shame.

Yeah its going to be inferior because it's not a shell former. And I think the reason for the feet is because they needed a place for weapon storage. But thats not an excuse though just pointing it out

It doesn't exactly help that, like you said, he didn't really get to do much in the movie and they never really went anywhere with it, on top of just being a design I'm not a fan of. The silhouette and body shape of the new one is just so atrocious. The older one has a way stronger and more imposing silhouette, and makes more sense proportionally. I know that doesn't matter as much with TFs but I just can't stand how the new one looks.
I have to say the Old one is better to me. It’s better proportioned, sleeker and accurate in terms of design. The colours are more accurate and so is the truck. Honestly in my opinion for a shell former it actually works really well. The truck mode actually looks like a truck and it’s believable, it’s just a shame that the amazing head sculpt for the old one is lost because it has no paint. The new one on the other hand I hate so much. It’s one of the worst SS figures that I have ever seen. The proportions are off, the colours are terrible and it’s mostly hollow. Most of the tarnsformermation is in the legs and even then we are left with the junk of his feet hanging out from the back. Like c’mon Hasbro. So for me the old one easily takes the win, hands down. Xx
I prefer the new one. Mostly because of the superior articulation as well as not having any form of backpack. Sure the proportions are off and the vehicle mode was compromised for robot mode, but no figure is perfect and I can accept what we got because I absolutely hate shellformers.
@@wingedbluj1674 that’s fair enough but personally I feel the robot mode is vastly inferior in terms of accuracy. It’s cool in terms of moulding and sculpt but it’s lacking in paint, accuracy and even the truck mode is inferior. The only pluses I can give it are the transformation, articulation and mould but it’s not enough for me to love it. The only areas where I think the older one is weaker are paint and transformation wise but considering Galvatrons transformations in the film were him turning into particles it doesn’t bother me that he’s a shell former. I respect your opinion though. To each their own as the saying says xx
@@wingedbluj1674 While I'm not getting either of these, my opinion is that SS has better engineering (basically budget Nero) but old one looks better despite the backpack, I prefer a backpack rather than the skinny arms since it really throws off the look in all angles whereas the old one at least looks great from the front
The Takara version of the original Galvatron has much better paint applications, most notably on the face, so there is an even better version out there, which I've owned for quite a few years now and still absolutely love!

@@Jcc2224nah we're the silver or at least giving it a lighter shad of grey idk what they were thinking with the dark grey. All the proportions except the legs are extremely off. Overall Galvatron the original is a mile better in terms of looking screen accurate idk what people see in the new one other than good engineering
