      @@CourtsideSportsLTD head are finally merging all of the different qualities their racquets have - together, first seen with gravity then the rest of the 360+ generation. before there was always something missing. 360+ are all very good racquets, some are really excellent like the speed mp. I would still like to see a 16x19 or 16x20 speed pro, but these radicals are 16x19 which is great, with enough SW.

    Great review on 2021 Radicals! I currently use the 2019 Radical Pro and although it hits well and its solid, I found its been too jarring on the arm after hard play. Just tested the the 2021 Radical MP vs Yonex Ezone 98. They are very similar in spec, however the swing weight is 326 on Radical MP and only 317 on Ezone. All things being similar, the heavier swing weight on the Radical MP feels more stable and gives great plow thru on ground strokes and serves.

    Dear Beckett, Thanks for all you do. You're an excellent and organized racquet reviewer. Your thorough testing and rating system make your reviews easy to understand and more useful when making racquet choice decisions. OK, Beckett, here's the BIG 2020 into 2021 question, for me: I'm looking for a control oriented racquet, but there are so many good ones in that category over the last 12 months. So far, my fave is the 360+ Prestige MP, but I haven't tested all the competitors with very similar specs and I want to ask you how the competitors stack up against the Prestige MP and ask you which one of the entire bunch would you recommend for a control-oriented racquet seeker? The other racquets are: 360+ Prestige Tour, Gravity Tour, 360+ Speed Pro, Yonex Vcore Pro 97 HD, and the Prince Phantom Pro 100 18x20. It's a tough choice. All have relatively low RA and relatively thin beams. The Yonex is a 97 head, the Prestige Tour 99, the Gravity Tour, Speed and Phantom are 100. All are 18x20, except the Prestige Tour that is 18x19 (close enough). So....what do you think?

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi James, I really appreciate you kind words! They help keep me motivated. I haven't tried all of the racquets you mentioned, like the Prince or the Gravity Tour. From the way I perceive a truly control oriented racquet, the only ones on your list are the Phantom, the Prestige MP and the Vcore Pro HD. Of those, I have only tried the latter two, and I prefered the Prestige. This is because if swung more manueverably which made want to swing faster and push the racquets limits. I know it's not on your short list due to the string pattern, but I believe the current Vcore 95 is the best control racquet out there. I'm excited for the new one. The 16x20 pattern has a very low and consistent launch angle.

    Great frame for precise shots, much better than the head radical pro, the speed and even the new pure strike, I have tested.

      Sadly I'm not sure I'll be able to make this happen. I work a full time job during the week and do these videos on the side.
      The Radicals feel like they have more power to me, and a more responsive feel. EZones are more muted and solid feeling. The Ezone 98 swings faster than the Radical MP. The Radical Pro swing faster than the Ezone Tour, but both feel like they have a lot of weight in the throat. I like in them in the following order: Ezone 98, Radical Pro, Radical MP, Ezone Tour. This may seem weird but something about the Ezone Tour really slowed down my strokes and I couldn't gel with the racquet. This will vary, as some people LOVE the EZONE Tour

    Favorite recent Radical was the very first generation of Graphene. Ever since that one, the line has gone steadily downhill (NXT, Touch, 360) with a lack of everything -- mostly too stiff and no feel. This is the first one that I am simply refusing to get sucker punched again. Not falling for it. The YouTek Radical Pro was also pretty great with tons of plow and power. I wish Head luck trying to revive this line, but I am sticking to what I've got.

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD

      I can totally understand your hesitations toward the new racquet. It seems like Head still has some work to do when it comes to gaining back trust of some of the classic Head fans. I prefer the Radical Pro. I found it to have quite a bit more power, which is something I need in my game right now. I felt amazing stepping into the court with the PS97, but playing on clay, I really need that forgiveness when I'm playing deep in the court. Neither had amazing spin, but they weren't bad either. I didn't feel forced to flatten my shots out with either, and was comfortable playing my normal game with both. I found the PS97 to be more maneuverable, which I liked if I was playing someone worse than me, but I would have liked better plow through against heavy hitters. I would say, for my game, the Radical Pro is better for winning matches, but the PS97 is better for having fun on court.

    This was a great rundown of the radicals. I’m looking to move from my blade v7 16x19 to something with more pop and easier to swing. Thinking of trying the latest radical mp and the extreme tour. Would you recommend either? Or maybe something else? Thanks

    Beckett, great reviews….How would you compare the new Radical mp to the new Extreme Tour? And which one do you prefer?

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Extreme Tour offers more control and consistency off the string bed. I think that it has better feel too, a little bit crisper with better dwell time and a bit more solid feeling,. The Radical MP has more power and stability, although there were times I would miss long that I wouldn't miss with other racquet. Spin on the Extreme is better. I prefer the Extreme as it is my racquet of choice.

  • @cd8145
    @cd8145 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I’m considering upgrading to either the new Radical MP or Speed MP (especially with the new black pj coming).
    Previously used the Ezone 98, for me it was just too inconsistent and muted, too head light and a bit hard to manouver. I was quite disappointed by it, for a 305g it wasn’t as stable as I had hoped, no juice behind it imo. I had to add some weight because the hoop vibrated so much, but then it just became so hard and unrewarding to play with.
    So recently I’ve been playing with the Pro Staff 97L, somehow it felt so stable for its weight I was surprised. I could swing out and didn’t feel fatiqued at all. Of course at 290g and a 97 head, sometimes I found myself swinging too fast, serve lacks pop and put-away power, hard to handle heavy topspin balls.
    So on paper the new Radical seems to fit me better, I prefer being aggressive from the baseline and have a modern topspin vertical swing path. From other reviews I heard the Radical isn’t very forgiving, a bit worried it’s gonna end up like the Ezone 98. As for the Speed MP, I worry I will have maybe too much power and launch the ball too high and long (especially on approach shots); and the 100 headsize is sluggish through the air. Guess it’s a give and take in the end. Should I go all in with my strength / playstyle (aggresive baseliner) and go for the Speed MP?

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I generally agree with choosing racquets that amplify your strengths, however given your needs on court I'm leaning Radical. It offers a less muted feedback and feels very connected. I didn't find the Radical to be very demanding on court. There's a lot more plowthrough available here than with an EZone 98. My issue with the Speed is the muted feel and the open string pattern can lead to launchy balls. A lot of the racquets in Head's line are quite similar and its becoming tough to choose between them.

    • @cd8145
      @cd8145 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CourtsideSportsLTD Did you find the Radical’s power and plow to be dramatic less than the Speed? I assume the Speed is better at handling pace and allowing you to hit through more? And the Radical I guess has more weight in the head than the Ezone 98? Also is the launch angle of the Speed dramatically higher than the Radical?
      My grip I think is somewhere bettwen Semi and Full Western, sometimes I brush the ball too much like you said in the video Serve and volley is my weakest skill so I need some help there tbh. A bit worried about the thinner beam and smaller 98 headsize, when I’m not 100% it’s gonna be a little hard to manouver, but then again I defnitely don’t like a muted feel, hated Yonex’s VDM. With the Speed did you find your groundstrokes to have more kick and easier to create angles. I did try the Clash 100 and man that was an uncontrollable rocket launcher with no feel at all, also used the Prince tour 100T at that pattern was too open as well. I feel like I’m missing a but of that “Oomph” in my game but at the same time wanna be able to hit out and not spraying balls everywhere, man it’s hard to pick!

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cd8145 Im not going to be able to answer your questions with complete accuracy, because I didn't hit the Speed and Radical back to back. I hit the Radical against the Pro and my personal Vcore 95.
      It's kinda hard to tell on video (especially because I haven't been playing a lot of tennis lately) but my opponent is one of the biggest hitters I have ever played with. He hits it extremely hard and deep with lots of height over the net. Most racquets under 315g unstrung cannot hold up to this type of hitting, but the Radical MP could. The Ultra 100 also could. Racquets that can't are the Prestige Tour, older Aero Pro Drives, the Prostaff 97 and even my customized Vcore 95 struggles.
      I did find the launch angle of the Radical to be less erratic than the Speed, but it's hard to be very specific when I haven't hit them back to back.
      I think the Ultra 100 may be worth looking into for you as well. It has the most controllable launch angle of any powerful 100 on the market, although it is a bit stiff.

      @@CourtsideSportsLTD First off all thanks for the very thorough replies, really appreciate them! Realy surprised to hear that the Radical, relatively thin beam and smaller headsize is that stable compared to the other rackets you mentioned that on paper should be more stable. Was your Mp perhaps over spec or this version just has lots of weight in the head, perhaps leaning towards Pure Strike territory but easier to use? Overall I myself I’m leaning towards the Radical too, don’t really gravitate to 100 headsize powerful stiff rocket launcher type of rackets. If the Radical is more stable and predictable, less muted than the Speed then it’s a clear winner for me, I assume it’s a bit more manouverable as well but I have to put in more of my own power? Any weakness you found with the Radical?
      Anyway thanks again for such helpful answers, if I were in Canada I’d purchase from you store right away, thanks Beckett!

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cd8145 My Radical was measured at 322 strung SW which shouldn't be too far off average spec. Downside for me was control. I definitely was confident taking full swings on every shot. It does actually play like a Pure Strike but with a softer, more connected feel and fastest swing. It doesn't plow through the ball as well, but it feels stable through the ball.

      Hi Gaston, thanks for your comment. I am actually in the process of switching racquets and one of the ones I was considering was the Gravity Pro so I have good recent memory of it compared to the field. The Radical Pro would be a good move, you lose a bit of stability and control but gain spin and power. I actually really like the Extreme Tour, not the Pro. It is noticeably more powerful and forgiving, but still encourages you to swing hard. The Extreme Pro can be over powered at times. With the Tour, even though it's a lot lighter, the stability is very good, and could get even better with some customization.

    Hey I keep going back and forth on the radical MP and Pro. I like the feel and control on the pro but it is slightly to heavy. The MP seems to light for me and a little unstable but otherwise like it. I do have my best serves with the pro and have better control. If I added some weight to the mp would that get me a good middle ground?

    • @paulron3563

      Pro is 315grms without strings
      332grms with
      Add grommet 3grms
      Add overgrip 10 grms
      That's 345 where a pro should be.
      The MP that I use is 337 grams as I've added weight to the butt 6pts hl.
      It was 330 before I added weight.
      That strings grommet and overgrip.
      I just went from my Head liquidmetal Radical MP from 1994. I have 2 customised at 347gms.

      lead at 3 and 9 o'clock will make the racket more stable. then you can either add weight at the top and butt cap evenly or at the throat till you get to where you like it.
      this version of radical has 2 different mold between the mp and pro so if you like the feel of the pro unfortunately the mp will feel different even when you match the spec. the old radical has the same mold for pro and mp so usually one version usually feel very off because of the way they distribute the weight

    Hi! Thanks for the great review.
    I have a question regarding stifness rate.
    I tend to have tennis elbow when playing with stiffer rackets, and the margin is very thin.
    I am considering buying a couple of Pure Strikes 16 x 19 98 inch frame or the Radical Pro. What would your recommendation be, or would you advice to get either the radical MP or the strike 100?
    Thanks.
    PS insta sub your thorough review,

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the sub! The Radical Pro is the softest of the three, so if it's stiffness that bothers you, thats the money. Weight can also absorb shock which gives another edge to the Pro. However if you hit late and that's what cause the issue, maybe a lighter racquet would help you prepare fast, making the MP better. I'd avoid the Strikes. They are better than before, but still very stiff.

    • @CourtsideSportsLTD
      @CourtsideSportsLTD  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Prestige MP has a lot more control and feels a lot softer. You'll get a lot better spin with both Radicals. I think the Radical Pro has the best stability of the bunch, mostly due to the higher stiffness vs. the Prestige MP. The Prestige is relatively unforgiving compared to both Radicals, but when you line it up correctly, the feel on impact is extremely rewarding. If i was just plaing for fun, I'd pick the Prestige. If I wanted to win a match, I pick the Radical Pro. The Radical MP has good feel for it's class though. For reference, a close friend of mine has switched away from a 15 year Prestige MP and finally picked up a Radical MP to help with shoulder injuries.
